Chapter 48 Operation Beifong
Its been a week since the spirit vine attack and since Sean was given his Great Grandfather's most powerful weapon the Blade of Life.
Since then most of the world's armies were assembling in Republic City knowing Vlad would attack them.
Right now Sean and Korra were in bed before he woke up seeing her in her night clothes with Katara in the middle as she slept peacefully making him smile before seeing Junior and Diana in the bed as well.
"Be lucky this bed is big enough for all of us or we'd never get any sleep." Korra said opening her eyes before smiling at him as he kissed her.
"I could always get a bigger bed." Sean said making her giggle before the kids started waking up.
Soon the two were dressed and in Irons office to discuss future plans.
"I hope you all have some inventions that could turn the tide in our favor." Irons said to Varrick and Asami as the later held out blue prints.
"It's a flying Mecha suit. Asami got the idea from watching dragonfly-humingbirds. You can take off straight up, fly in any direction." Varrick said.
"What about the Spirit weapons?" Irons asked.
"Dad we can't use those things. You saw what happened when Vlad harnessed them in the swamp how it effected ours here and how he tried to use people's life energy to further power them for his own gains." Sean said.
"True enough. Still that weapon is gonna put us at a disadvantage." Irons said.
"If he has it operational yet which I doubt. Even with Baatar helping him it'll take weeks maybe a month before they finish it and that gives us time to plan an attack once we have their location." Reznov said.
"What about the spirits?" Korra asked.
"Oh please they didn't even remotely care about the hundred year war and I sure as hell doubt they care about this one. They don't get involved with human affairs. Battle Spirits would if they actually had a portal." Sean said.
"I'm afraid he's correct." Tenzin said.
"In any event we're gonna have to wait until all the armies are assembled." Irons said before Gideon walked in.
"Sir...It's ready." Gideon said making him grin.
"Whats ready?" Sean asked.
"I think your gonna love this. Send him in." Irons said getting Gideon to lead someone inside as they heard mechanical footsteps.
Thats when they saw a robot walking in.
"Whoa what the?" Sean said impressed.
"Let me introduce you to E3N. Enhanced Tactical Humanoid 3rd Revision." Irons said.
"Nice. Bucket of bolts might actually make a difference." Gaz said before the robot looked at him.
"You know I have feelings right?"
"OH SHIT!" Gaz yelled jumped back making the others laugh.
"Oh wow. That I did not see coming. You got a name?" Sean asked.
"Call me Ethan sir." Ethan said. (Like most characters not from Legend of Korra he's from Call of Duty)
Soon enough everyone left before Sean and Korra were back on Airtemple island and saw Opal, Lin and Bolin getting supplies on Opal's bison Juicy. (God I hate this thing!)
"What are you three up to?" Sean asked.
"We're going to save my family from Vlad." Opal said making him frown.
"I'm coming with. If you run into Vlad you'll need my help since none of you can handle her." Sean said.
"Mind if I tag along?" Ethan asked.
"Whoa!" Opal said amazed.
"What is that?" Lin asked.
"A new modern day soldier. Come along Ethan." Sean said as he jumped up top.
"Be careful." Korra said.
"Don't worry you aren't losing me a second time." Sean said kissing her before he jumped up and they took off.
Later
Soon the Five arrived outside of Zaofu.
"Home sweet home." Opal said before she noticed the domes of the city were taken off.
"Vlad stripped the domes off." Lin said.
"The hell did he do that for?" Sean asked.
"Probably needs them for something." Lin said before taking a close look through a scope. "He's got a whole battalion of troops stationed there. There's no way we'll be able to spot anything useful from here. We'll have to go in for a closer look." Lin said.
"Don't bother."
Lin froze at that voice before turning around seeing none other than her mother Toph Beifong.
"All the prisoners have been moved." Toph said.
"Uh, Hey, Chief." Lin said surprised.
"Hey, Chief." Toph said.
"Grandma Toph!" Opal said hugging her making her smile.
"You were only up to my waist the last time we were together." Toph said.
"Oh, Man! Oh, I can't!" Bolin tried to say had Sean not smashed his foot. "OOOOOWWWWW!" Bolin yelled.
"Don't act like a fangirl! I hate that shit!" Sean said annoyed.
"What you have to pee or something?" Toph asked making Opal giggle.
"No he's a big fan of yours." Sean said.
"Oh that crap. Whats up with him?" Toph asked.
"He's an actor." Lin said making her snort. "So you already checked the city for Su?" Lin asked.
"How'd you even know she was captured?" Ethan asked.
"First off what the hell are you?" Toph asked.
"He's a new generation soldier and yes he's a robot." Sean said.
"Oh. Well, to answer your question I've been seeing through the swamp vines to keep an eye on the place. By the time I got here they had already left. No one was killed but that freak whatever his name is..." Toph tried to say.
"Vlad. His name is Vlad. He's my cousin who...Has some issues for all the abuse he took for years on end for what his mother did to the last generation of Avatars." Sean said.
"Oh. I can't say I'm surprised." Toph said. "Anyway they stole all the metal from the domes and all the meteorites." Toph said.
"So Su and the others are gone?" Sean asked.
"Pretty much. I heard they were taken to some prison camp." Toph said.
"And just where is that?" Opal asked Bolin.
"TALK!" Sean roared in his ear making him yelp in shock making Sean laugh. "Oh that never gets old." Sean said.
"Theres a factory and reeducation facility not too far away." Bolin said.
"And you know this how?" Toph asked.
"Bolin used to work for Kuvira before Sean killed her." Opal said.
"He's always doing dumb shit. First he worked for the Triple threats because he needed money for the Pro bending tournament so he, Mako and Korra could play in the finals. Then he dated Eska who treated him like complete garbage who thankfully died a virgin because I killed her. And finally he worked for Kuvira because he was naive...As usual." Sean said grinning making Toph raise an eyebrow.
"And I thought Sokka did dumb shit during the hundred year war." Toph said making Sean chuckle before they went to Juicy.
"Grandma, this is juicy." Opal said.
"And I thought Appa was smelly. Why would you choose this leaky nasty thing?" Opal asked.
"You don't choose your Bison. He chooses you. And once he chooses you, you can't change. Believe me. I checked." Opal said. (I feel sorry for her)
Later
Juicy flew the group to the prison camp.
"So how long has it been since you two have seen each other?" Bolin asked.
"Little while now. Couple of years." Toph said.
"Try 20." Lin said.
"Christ, Lin. I can understand you not seeing Su for 30 years but damn." Sean said.
"Ah, time flies when you get to be my age." Toph said.
"I'm surprised Lin came to save Su. I thought you guys didn't get along." Toph said.
"They sorted out their differences 4 years by beating each other up." Sean said making her snort.
"I honestly can't say I'm surprised. I'm glad to see we finally put this all behind us." Toph said.
"So once we get there are we gonna have Ethan cause a distraction?" Opal asked making him look at her.
"You know I have stage fright right?" Ethan asked.
"You got feelings?" Lin asked raising an eyebrow.
"I do actually. I carry the brain of a human Farmer." Ethan said shocking them.
"Holy crap are you serious?" Opal asked.
"No ma'am not at all." Ethan said making Sean burst out laughing.
"He got you guys good!" Sean yelled.
"Did not." Lin said before they landed.
"Okay, there's the factory." Bolin said.
They snuck into the factory before Toph Metal bended a way in just as some of Vlad's followers walked by.
"Oh boy." Sean said seeing the weapon.
"What the hell is that?" Toph asked.
"Thats the super weapon Vlad wants. Baatar Jr and Zhu Li work fast." Sean said.
"I still can't believe my grandson is involved in this." Toph said disappointed before stomping her foot down. "I think I know where they are. Feel that Cavern a few stories down? It seems empty, but it's guarded by an awful lot of Mech." Toph said to Lin who stomps her foot down.
"Right. Why would you need soldiers guarding an empty cavern?" Lin asked.
"Simple. They're suspended above the ground so they can't bend. Vlad wants them for his own cruel reasons theres no denying that." Sean said.
That when the doors opened up and Vlad walked in with two machines guarding him.
"Hmm." Sean said glaring at him.
"Vlad? I didn't expect you until tomorrow." Baatar said.
"I just wanted to check in to make sure everything was on track. It looks wonderful. Even the Dark Master would be impressed." Vlad said making Sean glare at him even more about to grab his new blade.
"Don't do anything stupid. I know you got issues but now is not the time." Toph said making him stop.
"We've had some minor malfunctions, but we should be ready for the test tomorrow." Baatar said making Vlad look at Zhu Li.
"You've been working on this the entire time, Zhu Li. What do you think the problem is?" Vlad asked.
"It's a very complex machine. Add to the fact we're using a combination of both advanced technology and spirit energy...Theres gonna be problems since this has never been attempted at all." Zhu-Li said.
"But you're doing everything you can to fix those, correct?" Vlad asked narrowing his eyes.
"Of course." Zhu Li said.
"She's lying." Toph said.
"If I had to guess she's trying to sabotage the weapon." Sean said.
"So she's not actually working for him but trying to stop him from completing the weapon." Ethan said.
"I knew it." Bolin said.
"Shut the hell up." Lin said making him shrink.
"Tell the troops and workers to attend tomorrow's demonstration. I want them all to witness this incredible new weapon in action." Vlad said.
Thats when Sean and the others left.
They arrived back where Juicy was.
"We should be thinking of a way to take out Vlad while we have the chance. Taking him out will probably prevent the Dark Master from coming back" Opal said.
"Or at least destroy the cannon. If He takes that takes that to Republic city, it could obliterate everything." Bolin said.
"No. We don't have the numbers to take them all on. We came here to free Suyin and her family and the get the hell out. And I'm the only one here who can handle Vlad. If we brought the Task force or Korra things would have been different. The best we can do right now is wait till morning when everyone is topside and get Suyin and her family out. And besides you all heard what The Chronicler said. Nothing can stop him from coming back. We're just gonna have to face facts we're gonna have to deal with something more dangerous than Vlad." Sean said.
Meanwhile
Korra smiled as she watched Junior practice Water Bending on Meelo.
"Whoa!" Meelo yelled trying to dodge every strike before his feet were frozen by Diana making him yell before Junior froze his face making him fall over.
Korra burst out laughing while Katara in her arms giggled at the display.
"Nice work you two. Your father would be proud." Korra said making them grin at each other.
"You seem happy." Asami said sitting next to her.
"Watching them play and use waterbending like me? They take after me in more ways than their father." Korra said.
"So...How is Sean handling all this?" Asami asked making her sigh.
"I know he wants to save Vlad despite everything he's done and I don't blame him. It wasn't fair how he was treated. And Norris made things worse as usual." Korra said.
"I know. But everyone keeps saying the most humane thing we can do...Is put him down. I don't think theres any other way." Asami said.
"Yeah...I really wish there was for his sake since he's already lost enough family by blood as it is because of Alduin. And now he has to kill his own cousin." Korra said knowing how much Sean hated it.
Thats when they saw Junior unfreeze Meelo who growled before Diana used waterbending to give him a wedgie making him scream in shock making them laugh.
"Maybe they do take after Sean in his pranking ways." Korra laughed.
Meanwhile
Sean, Lin, Toph, Ethan and Bolin were at the factory waiting for Opal to give them the signal to begin.
"The test is about to start. Their about to blow up that empty town we flew over yesterday." Opal said on the comms.
"Good gives us plenty of time to get in and out." Sean said as they jumped down a hole.
Toph made a door seeing her family in a cell suspended above the ground.
"Impressive." Sean said.
"I don't see any guards." Ethan said.
"The guards are on the other side of that door. We'll have to be quiet." Toph said as Sean whistled loud enough for Su and her family to hear.
"Anyone want to be rescued?" Sean asked waving making her chuckle. "I can get over there easily." Sean said.
"Right." Lin said as Sean jumped over to the prison making it shake a little before Sean cut up a hole.
"Ok who wants to fly?" Sean asked before grabbing Wei and threw him to the others where Bolin caught him.
Meanwhile
"Is the weapon ready?" Vlad asked.
"Yes." Baatar said before he started powering it up before alarms went off. "You gotta be kidding me! I just fixed this thing!" Baatar yelled annoyed before seeing what the problem was. "Wait the distributor pin is gone. Thats not possible I locked it in last night." Baatar said.
"And this could cause the entire weapon to fail?" Vlad asked.
"Worse it could cause it to explode to a three mile radius." Baatar said making him narrow his eyes before taking his Dark Star Saber out and aimed at Zhu Li making her gasp in shock.
"What do you know about this?" Vlad asked.
"Nothing." Zhu Li said before the pin floated out of her uniform making her widen her yes.
"You once swore your loyalty to Kuvira when she was alive and I now command what remains of her forces. Were you lying to save your own skin?" Vlad questioned making her glare.
"You were a monster for trying to kill Kruger's kids who did nothing wrong to you...Now you're nothing but a murderer like your mother." Zhu Li said making him growl in rage before aiming his blade at her neck.
"You will pay for that remark with your LIFE! Take her to the test site I want her to turn to ash!" Vlad yelled in rage having two former Equalists move her.
Opal saw all this and frowned.
Meanwhile
"Dude will you just let the fuck go?" Sean asked as Baatar Senior wouldn't let go.
"No...Just go...I'll be fine." Baatar Senior said.
"Ok I've had enough.." Sean said wrapping his chain around his legs before throwing him.
"AHHHHHH!" Baatar Senior yelled.
"How is it your the warrior in the family and he's the wimp?" Sean asked Suyin who shrugged with a smile before the Guards came out only for Ethan to aim at them and fired at them killing them. "TIME TO GO!" Sean yelled as they jumped to the others.
Heading topside Opal landed in front of them before blowing a silent whistle to signal Juicy.
"Mom! Dad!" Opal said hugging them. "Thank you." Opal said to Bolin making him smile.
"Lets get going." Lin said.
"Vlad caught Zhu Li and threw her in the town." Opal said.
"Why?" Suyin asked.
"Because she was sabotaging the weapon." Opal said.
"Son of a bitch! Ethan, Go with Opal and Bolin and free her. We're gonna try and take out Vlad and that weapon." Sean said.
"I'm not risking my butt to fight Vlad or take out a super weapon." Toph said.
"Then stay here." Sean said rushing off.
Vlad grinned as Baatar was about to fire the weapon before the later took a closer look at the town seeing Opal, Bolin and Ethan freeing Zhu Li.
"Opal? No we got to stop the test!" Baatar said.
"For what?" Vlad asked.
"My little sister is out there. Vlad please I..." Baatar tried to say only for the cannon to tilt making it tip upwards before firing and hit the mountain avoiding the rescue team.
"Hmm?" Vlad said before Sean nearly slashed him with his blade which he dodged before seeing the blade. "The Blade of Life! I've had enough with you getting all that power!" Vlad roared as he pulled out his Dark Star Saber.
While this was going on Suyin and her family were fighting off against Vlad's army.
Sean roared as he and Vlad fought one another with their blades clashing creating waves of untamed power.
"I HAVE HAD IT WITH YOU GETTING EVERYTHING HANDED DOWN TO YOU LIKE I MEAN NOTHING!" Vlad roared before Sean head-butted him making him groan before Sean tried to slash him but he dodged.
"It's not like that Vlad. I may have had a life of luxury but I was far from happy. I just wanted our family back to the way is used to be." Sean said.
"LIES!" Vlad trying to slash him but he blocked it before Sean blasted him with white fire making him roar in pain.
Suyin and her family were pinned down before a wave of Earth forced Vlad's army back making them look seeing Toph who took out most of the enemy with ease before Sean jumped down to them seeing no more reason to fight.
"You give your family a bad name!" Toph said to Vlad who roared in rage as they flew off.
"THIS ISN'T OVER SEAN! DO YOU HEAR ME! THIS ISN'T OVER!" Vlad Roared.
"You were right you guys have some serious issues." Toph said.
"You have no idea." Sean said.
Later
Korra smiled as she held Katara in her arms as she slept while Junior and Diana played before Juicy arrived.
"Daddy!" Diana yelled as he jumped down before she jumped into his arms making him laugh.
"I'm ok sweetheart." Sean said.
"You got them back." Korra said smiling.
"And ran into Toph of all people. She's a lot stronger than I thought for an old lady." Sean said making her laugh. "Had a run in with Vlad though. Seeing this." Sean said pulling out the blade of Life. "Drew him into a rage." Sean said.
"I hate to break up the moment but theres something I need to tell you." Zhu Li said getting their attention. "Vlad is going to attack in 3 weeks with everything he has." Zhu Li said making Sean and Korra frown as they held their children close.
