Chapter 51: Meeting the In-Laws.

"Y-you just killed that man."

Hachiman Hikigaya could still see the faint wisp of smoke leave from the barrel. For a second he wondered how he was keeping it all together. Perhaps he went into shock and not realized it. Does that really happen, he wondered. He doesn't really know for sure. He felt stupid and careless. Sousuke Sagara was his roommate. All he had to do was ask the idiot. But he had doubts about whether he would get the right answer. Like he said, he was bit of an idiot with a one tracked mind.

"Hey kid? Are you still with me?"

The woman with the burgundy hair who had fired upon the guy who had tried to rob him at knife point came closer and waved her hand around in front of his face. He hadn't seen her holster the twin Berettas, but they were no longer in her hands, clearly out of sight. She was quick, he thought. But that much he should know by now in the way he took down that thug. He still couldn't believe it. At one second he was held at knife point, the other second this woman showed up and then -

"Hey kid!"

"I'm not a kid."

The woman looked at him annoyed, tapping her foot on the ground. He suddenly felt like he was in danger. Yeah, right, way to go, Hachiman, piss of the woman who just shot a man to death. Gee, I wonder how that will turn out, he thought sardonically.

"You really got a mouth on ya, huh. Well that's not bad. But you should be more thankful. I just saved your fucking life."

Hachiman wondered whether there was a need to curse. This woman surely felt like there was. He hadn't heard her talk too much, but her mild altercation with his would be mugger left an impression that this woman cursed like a sailor.

"Are you a sailor?" He asked.

"Huh?" She cocked her head to the side. "What are you on about? I know Japanese men have a thing for cute girls in sailor uniforms, but seriously, do I look the type."

"That's not what I meant. Look, what's your name?"

The woman looked at him with doubt and suspicion in her eyes. There was also some hidden rage. "Why the fuck you want to know?"

Hachiman tried to play it off nice and cool. "Nothing really. I just wanted to know the name of my saviour."

The woman blinked, looked at him for a few more seconds and then decided to take out one of her Berettas from her shoulder holster. Hachiman raised his hand without even being needed to ask.

"Try the other one."

He was not gonna act stupid and die out here from a gunshot wound to the cranium. He had to stall. Yes, that was the plan. Sure, this woman had saved his life, but she also seemed crazy. Besides this was Tokyo and though things have changed a lot, sounds of gunshots still grabbed people's attention and that led to the police being called. But did he have that much time. He seriously doubted that.

There was also the other possibility. He was near the campus, within earshot of the loud gunshots. Maybe campus security would show up. But would they be of any use against her. He didn't really want to know.

The woman cocked the firearm and placed the barrel to his temple and though, Sagara had taught him a way to outmaneuver and takedown a person with a live firearm at such close quarters, there was something in the eyes of the woman that made him really afraid.

"Last chance, sweetheart." She said with a devilish smile.

"Okay, just don't blow my head off." Hachiman kept his eyes on her and didn't dare to blink. "I just thought if I knew your name, I could establish some kind of a rapport with you -"

"A what? Stop using fancy, high end words, kid. You are making me think that you think that I am really fucking stupid. That's not the case is it, because that would piss me the hell off!"

"I'm not trying to do that, miss."

"Missus. I'm married."

A moment of silence lapsed between the two of them.

"Okay, that's it. You are dead." She said.

"But I didn't say anything." Hachiman tried.

"But you were thinking it, weren't you. Well, you are not special kid." She was lost in her own reverie, but there was something animalistic and caged rolling around behind her eyeballs. She mimicked some stupid voices in a comical manner. "'You gotta be fucking me. Revy you got married!' 'Is this a prank?' 'Is it April Fool's Day.' Well fuck you and fuck them." She sighed and lowered her Beretta. "But those, I can still deal with. But the one's that really get me are those who just look at me for a second and then just say 'Congratulations!' I know what you are thinking, asshole. Say it, say it. But you won't dare say it because I will shoot your brains all over the back wall. You don't get to judge me, asshole!"

"I wasn't judging you, Revy-san." Hachiman said.

"Bullshit! And don't call me san. Makes me feel old. I'm twenty-five." Revy said. "Call me chan. It sounds better."

Nothing about her screamed chan. Hachiman felt more appropriate to address her using dono or sama, but he was pretty sure if he used either of those, she might seriously consider double tapping him. The woman looked a bit unhinged. But still, something in him, the idiot maybe, wanted to point out something stupid, despite the screaming in his head going on about taking unwanted risks.

"Actually Revy-san, I don't think that would be appropriate. You see, chan is often used in a more intimate setting or between really close friends. I'm sure your husband calls you that."

"He calls me Revy. But yeah, now that I think about it, one or two times, when the mood was right, he did call me chan." Out of no reason the fearsome woman blushed. "Hey, what the fuck did you just make me say?"

Revy didn't even point a gun at him, but he already had his hands in the air. Hachiman blushed out of embarrassment and lowered his hands slowly. Seriously, this night was becoming a lot more troublesome then he had hoped for. He was almost mugged, he witnessed a shooting and now he was talking to this crazy woman.

"Crap, I'm late." Revy shouted, looking at her wristwatch. "Hey kid, do you know, where the hell is Neo Tokyo University?"

Hachiman Hikigaya felt dread all of a sudden. Was this woman an ex-student who had gone off the deep end and come here to the campus, armed and ready to do a mass-shooting. Can you ask a would be mass-shooter such questions about his or in this case her intentions.

"Revy-san, do you have an assault rifle on you?" Hachiman asked.

"Of course not. Shit!" Revy looked at herself. "Is it the trench coat? Does that make it look like I'm carrying an AK-47 or something?"

"No, you are looking fine." Hachiman stated

Revy looked at him. "Huh? What was that?"

Shit. He had no experience dealing with married women.

"-No, it was a slip of the tongue."

"So you don't think, I'm sexy."

"I never said that."

Revy chuckled. "Relax. I'm fucking with ya. I just want to make Rock jealous, say that I was hit on by a hot looking guy on my way to visit his sister in the university."

He didn't know what to say. Married women were dangerous. Hachiman also, suddenly had mad respect for this Rock guy. Kudos to you pal, you married a crazy woman with a thing for guns. I hope you know what you got yourself into.

As it turned out it was nothing which he assumed. Revy-san was just here to meet with Rock's sister.

"Let me show you the way. I'm a student at Neo Tokyo University."

"Really?" Revy blinked. "Oh fuck really. Oh shit, you saw what I did. Shit, shit, shit. Everything is blown to shit. Today was supposed to be special. I was gonna meet my sister-in-law and now this. You-"

"Yes me," Hachiman said, trying to cool her down. "I'm gonna let your sister-in-law know how you saved my life. That's gonna earn you some brownie points with the in-laws."

"Really?"

Suddenly she looked all childish and cute, like a little kid wanting to ask a huge big favour from her older brother. Dammit, that was a weird comparison. Perhaps he was a siscon. Doesn't matter, he would think about it later.

"Really." he confired. Then, just to make conversation he asked. "Which year is she in?"

"What do you mean?" Revy asked puzzled.

The two of them had started to walk towards the university. It was a short walk from where they were. Now that he had a good look, she was in fact shorter than her. Huh. She looked way taller with the dual pistols drawn. Fear does that to people. But now he didn't feel all that afraid.

"I mean your sister-in-law. She is a student here, right?"

"Of course not!" Revy balked at the suggestion. "She's a teacher."

Oh no. Oh no, his luck couldn't possibly be this worse. Or was it her luck that was this worse. Yeah, that could definitely be the case.

"Your sister-in-law's name is not Shizuka Hiratsuka by any chance is it?" Hachiman asked.

Revy looked at him like he was an honest to god psychic. "That's exactly right. Why, do you know her? What is she-"

"This is unexpected."

It happened in an instant. Revy reacted to the voice and had both her Berettas out in a second, pointed at the stranger in the black suit who had a Glock pointed at her direction. The two of them were locked in a standoff. Where Revy looked almost feral, the man in the black suit looked calm and composed and that was never a good thing. It meant he was used to this kind of situations.

Revy didn't lower her firearm but she cracked a smile. "John fucking Wick."

"Rebecca."

Revy blistered. "Don't tell me you are working again, John. What is it? Did this swanky, rich university hire you as a night security guard, because that would be overkill. But then again, you can never know, what with Daisuke Kambe running the place."

"I was here on official business." John Wick said. He then let out a world weary sigh. "My legal ward has been into some trouble with one of his…peers."

Okay, this guy was the total opposite of Revy or should he say Rebecca. He had this whole neo-noire vibe going on and the way he was talking it was really refined. Don't tell me, Hachiman thought, this guy was some kind of mobster, a hit man. He tried not to gasp, audibly and then, he just went over what he said and then reflexively a name slipped out of his mouth.

"Sousuke Sagara?"

John Wick frowned. "He's the concerned party, but no, I'm here for Yuuji Kazami. The two of them were involved in an altercation."

"I heard about it." Hachiman said. "Hitagi Senjougahara was also involved. Apparently, she came at Kazami with a box cutter and well, Sousuke came upon them and misunderstood the situation and things kinda escalated from then on." He bowed his head. "I'm Hachiman Hikigaya and I apologize on behalf of my roommate, Sousuke Sagara."

John Wick observed him and then offered a polite bow. "I heard about your cat from, Hiratsuka-sensei. Sorry about your loss."

Hachiman tried not to think about it. He said it in a way which told him he knew what it was like to lose something so precious. He couldn't help but wonder whether this guy owned a pet. He didn't look like a cat person. A dog maybe, then.

Of course Revy-san had to ruin the moment.

"I can't believe it. You are Yuuji Kazami's dad."

"Legal guardian." John Wick corrected. "He wanted a chance at a normal university life."

Revy waved it off. "Yeah, yeah. I get what you mean. But it's still hard to imagine."

"It's hard to imagine you being married, but here we are Rebecca." John Wick remarked.

"Watch it, Wick."

She didn't pull out her guns which meant this guy was the real deal. He had lowered his gun but there was still a palpable danger in the air. Oh why oh why had he gone out to buy Maxx Coffee from the convenience store tonight. Really he should know by now that Tokyo was a dangerous place.

But still he would rather be here than anyone else in the world.

"C'mon Revy-chan, let's get you all nice and ready to meet, Hiratsuka-sensei." Hachiman said, breaking the tense atmosphere.

John Wick seemed to have some sort of sixth sense because he knew exactly the right thing to say at that point. "Shizuka Hiratsuka is a fair person." He told Revy. "She won't judge you because of your background."

"Really?" Revy asked hopefully.

John Wick nodded.

"Thanks John." Revy said.

"Take care, Revy." John said as he started to leave.

A/N: Thank you "Agente-F" for suggesting Revy from Black Lagoon. I really liked having this fresh, different and unique character to work with in this chapter. Hope I did a good enough job of this.

Please suggest some more unique and fresh characters like this. It would really help a lot with writing new and interesting chapters.

Hope everyone enjoyed reading this chapter.

Leave lots and lots of review follow and fave.

Won't betray your dreams.

Trivia: John Wick is the legal guardian of two kids: Yuuji Kazami (The Fruit of Grisaia) and Lucy (Elfen Lied)

Revy is the sister-in-law of Shizuka Hiratsuka.

In this brand new world order, people don't necessarily have to change their last names when they are married. It leads to a lot more family relations and relatives.

For example Hachiman Hikigaya is related to Levi Ackerman, somehow.
