Mom, Secrets And More

Chapter 51

Amanda and Lee were talking to Jamie about their real career when Amanda had told Jamie that Joe knew, which didn't sit well with him.

He was over by the living room window looking out, and not saying a word, feeling terribly hurt by what he thought was a betrayal of sorts by his mother.

Amanda, watching him, then looked at Lee sadly and asked, "Now what?"

Lee sighed, and clearing his throat, got up from the dining room chair he was in, and patted her shoulder gesturing to himself answering, "My turn."

Going slowly over towards Jamie, Lee remarked, "Jamie...Look, your mom didn't say anything because she wasn't sure why you were kidnapped together in the first place. She didn't know those men that had you, but she had to think about your safety, okay? I know it doesn't make sense right now, but-"

Lee then realized Jamie wasn't answering, and as he looked back over at Amanda, he saw the pain etched on her face and it killed him!

Trying once more to reach him he stated, "Hey, Jamie, I know you're upset-"

Amanda swallowed hard, and finding her voice remarked cooly, "James Joseph King...You can be angry with me all you want, but I will not have you be rude to Lee in his own home. Do you understand me?"

Jamie turned towards his mother protesting, "But Mom-"

Amanda then responded with a gesture towards the dining room, "You don't want to be treated like a baby? Then you come right back over here and talk to us like the mature person you should be...Move it."

When Jamie saw that his mother was serious by her tone, he begrudgingly did what she asked and shrugged saying, "Fine. Then you'll tell me everything?"

Amanda replied with a shake of her head as Jamie came back and sat in the dining room chair facing her, "We'll tell you what we're allowed to. But first, you apologize to Lee. He has gone above and beyond to be your friend and to help you out."

Swallowing, Jamie looked at Lee and stated contritely, "I'm sorry, Lee!"

Lee nodded, "It's alright."

Amanda sighed. "Okay, now, see, if you don't know much, then you can't be a target."

Jamie queried, "Then why did Mr. Hawkins kidnap me?"

Lee, returning to his seat in the dining room answered, "He had several problems, one of which was that he'd gotten divorced and didn't get to see his son too often. My guess is because of that, he was trying to replace him with you."

Jamie gulped and said slowly, "Wow, that's messed up."

Amanda nodded touching Jamie's hand. "Yes, it is, Honey. But thank goodness you and Lee are safe and we don't have to worry about that man anymore. Now, about your dad knowing some stuff-"

Jamie asked, "Yeah, why didn't he like Lee? I mean, he saved my life. That should have made him happy, right?"

Amanda remarked. "Of course. Your dad was very relieved you were safe, Sweetie. Only he didn't understand why you and Lee made a connection of sorts. I had to explain that because of the situation you and Lee went through, you naturally felt closer to Lee at the time. It didn't mean you didn't love your father, but he didn't understand the unique circumstances. I then told him he needed to put away his hurt feelings and be there for you like I was."

Jamie then queried, "Does Dad know about you and Lee?"

Amanda gave a puzzled look to Lee as she answered, "Y-Yes, he knows that Lee and I are agents-"

Jamie persisted with a smile, "Yeah, but does he know you two like each other?"

Lee and Amanda shook their heads, not knowing how to get through this particular hurdle of the conversation...
