Okay, so I will admit, civilian life is easy as FUCK. The only thing that sucks right now is I miss all my buddies. Anyways as for the story, I don't have as much time to write or edit because I've been focusing more on the gym, books, and my own self improvement. So if some of these chapters are hard to read, its because I probably wrote them quick, fast and in a hurry.
Now some updates on my life. Works going good. I'm making about the same amount I did in the army after taxes and my insurance. Truck is back in the shop for repairs. Still working out every day at around 5:15 AM. Dating is MUCH easier now that I'm out of the army. Plan to move to Alaska is still on the table. But I'm thinking what I'm gonna do is close to the end of the year, I'm going to start applying for jobs in Anchorage. Get a regular job up there, get settled in and established and then try to join the wildlife troopers.
As of right now though, I got a decent job, I'm saving money, been out on a few dates, and above all us, I'm actually feeling pretty happy in life.
"Now thats a fire!" Jem said as he was looking at the big ass blazing fire in front of him.
"Damn thats hot." Marrow was trying to roast a hot dog on a stick, but it was hard to get close to it without feeling the heat start to get to you.
The only thing that was odd was Nala and Blake were sitting close to the fire with almost no issues. Jem just chalked it up to cats liking heat, because he looked over and saw Kirby the cat was sleeping right next to the flames.
That only confirmed Jem's belief that cats were odd creatures. He was just enjoying the fire and sipping on coffee like he usually would. He did have to resist the urge to make a joke about Weiss or Winter melting if they got too close to the fire, but he figured that would be too obvious, so he decided against it.
"You know, its kind of weird being able to relax like this." Harriet said as she couldn't remember the last time they had a day off.
She still wasn't a fan of Jem, and she especially didn't like how he looked at Elm. She had a bad feeling about that guy. He just looked like Bad news. But as of right now, she would hold her tongue, after all, he was partially the reason that Winter wasn't currently living on the streets right now. Granted, she still didn't see why the guy had a gun on him right now. Nor did she know why the faunus child with him even had a gun along with that bullet belt she was wearing.
"Jem, I don't get it, why does Nala have a gun?" Winter asked the question that had been on Harriets mind.
"Simple, she's responsible with it, plus as long as we're out here in the woods, I don't mind her carrying it. Besides, wouldn't this be commonplace in Remnant? I mean for fucks sake, Ruby carries her scythe with her when she goes shopping if episode 1 was anything to go by." Jem said as Winter paused.
He...He did have a point.
Come to think of it, nearly every huntsman and huntress was allowed to carry their weapons into bars, restaurants...
Actually now that she thought about it, Remnant's policies on weapons were something Jem would probably love.
She shrugged her shoulders and just decided to let it go. Shit hadn't been normal since they left Remnant, the last thing she was going to do was try to start a debate.
"Anyways, who wants some peach cobbler?" Jem asked as he pulled a dutch oven out of a bed of coals.
It may have been a simple recipe, but everyone there was intoxicated by the smell. Jem made sure to make enough for everyone. It was a pain in the ass having to account for the ace ops, but all he really had to do was make a few extra servings. He would admit though, he ended up making a lot more than he would if he was just out here with his buddies from the army. He had to take into account Nora ate like a fucking tank, but his biggest concern was Elm, mostly because a woman that big had to have a healthy appetite.
He was soon knocked out of his thoughts as he saw Nora scarfing down cobbler like her life depended on it.
Elm wasn't far behind as she was taking bite after bite. Jem looked over and couldn't help but be impressed at how fast they were eating. However, he did see a problem. He always thought it was nice to savor dessert, so he would chew slowly just to enjoy the taste longer. So it was one of his pet peeves when he saw someone eating fast. He knew that was some peoples way of complimenting cooking, but to him it always gave him the vibe of 'This food sucks, so I'm going to eat as fast as I can so I don't have to eat anymore.'
Call him crazy, but that was just what popped into his mind.
The thing that was bothering him the most was that Harriet kept giving him the evil eyes. He had no idea why she had such a mean look on her face, last he checked he hadn't done anything wrong. However, he got the feeling she was still pissed about the whole 'possible psycho hillbilly' vibe she got from him before she found out the truth. So maybe she hadn't gotten over that little incident yet.
He just shrugged his shoulders, fuck it, if she wanted to have a stick up her ass, it wasn't his problem.
Then again, if she was going to give him the stick up the ass vibes, she could at least stop eating the cobbler he prepared. For shits sake, if you're going to glare at a guy, don't eat the food he prepared for you, thats just bad manners.
Clover meanwhile was still acting like a disney princess as he was sharing his peach cobbler with some of the small woodland critters around him. Jem could have sworn he saw him feeding a baby deer. It was adorable as hell. He would be lying if he said he didn't want to be in Clover's position right now. He may have been a hunter, but it didn't mean he didn't like cute animals too.
It just meant some of those cute animals were also delicious.
"So what exactly are you all going to do now?" Jem asked Clover as he took a break from feeding a baby bunny.
"Well, we'll go back eventually, but honestly, I think I speak for everyone on my team when I say we need a break. So we'll give it a week and go back." He said as Winter found herself disappointed hearing that she would have to leave in a week.
"Cool! You'll have to visit sometime!" Jem said as Winter looked at him with a stupid look on her face.
"Wait, what?" She asked as she wasn't sure she heard him right.
"Well I mean come on, you guys have dust that lets you travel to another dimension, and you managed to refine it to the point that you can pick this dimension to come to, it would be a great way to unwind from the stress of Remnant right?" He said as they all thought it over.
A world not overrun by Grimm for vacation would be fun. But they doubted General Ironwood would let them use the dust as their own personal vacation cruise.
"I doubt we could get away with that." Elm said as she took some time out of eating to respond.
"Why not?" He asked as he took a bite of cobbler.
"Well, to be fair, that sounds like something out of a kids story." Harriet said as that was something you would hear in a fairy tale about being able to escape to the land of make believe.
"Except its not. Its real. And if you all were able to refine the dust so easily, who's to say you all couldn't just do it again whenever you wanted?" Jem asked again.
"Well it took our best scientists to figure out how to make it." Marrow said in response.
"And yet it was originally made by a teenage girl in her dorm room at beacon." Jem pointed out how Ruby originally made it.
"Okay thats fair, but my original point still stands, I don't think the general would approve of us using a transportation dust as our own personal bullhead." Clover pointed out that the dust was being kept secret for a reason.
"Eh, yeah you're right. Oh well, try to visit every now and then, despite all the crazy shit that's happened, this has all been a wild ride." Jem actually enjoyed his time with the people of Remnant.
"I'm still having trouble believing we're all just part of a tv show in this world." Harriet finally interjected.
"Web series, but I get what you mean, I could only imagine how I would feel if I found out my whole life was nothing but a story made up in someone elses mind." Jem said as he took a sip of coffee.
