It was dark, and her hand was pulsating in pain, and every time she took a breath, the pain in her lungs made her question taking her next breath. She didn't know why she was taken or what she was doing here. She lost track of how long she'd been wherever she was after the first time she passed out, and that was four times ago. Her head hung and her eyes felt heavy, she was begging herself to stay awake, listen for any sound that could help her, but it felt impossible. There was never any noise, except the sound of her screams.
"Hank, it's been 6 days. We have no leads on where she could be."
Jay paced in Hank's office. Hank barely allowed him at the district Because he couldn't keep his cool, rightful so since his wife was missing. He made Jay stay home with James under a very heavy police protection. But it didn't stop the guilt that consumed him. If he hadn't sent her to that stupid cabin, if he just kept Olivia and James in their home, she'd be safe.
But no, she was taken from him once again. Yet again, he failed to protect her. That feeling he first felt when she was taken years ago sat heavily in the pit of his stomach. He couldn't do this again. He wouldn't.
"Jay, you need to go back under, reach out to Erika."
"No, I refuse to compromise with her."
"We don't know this was her!"
"Who else would it be!"
"That's why you gotta talk to her."
"Not. Happening."
"AhhhHHHHHHH, please, please, stop, please." Olivia pleaded with tears.
Blood dripped from all ten of her fingers and her wedding rings were ripped from her finger. Her chest heaved as she tried her hardest to breathe through the pain.
"See, the funny thing about torture, is that no matter how hard you plead, it doesn't stop."
A hard sucker punch to the face knocked her out cold.
"Jay, you got a package." Trudy said, coming up the stairs.
Jay looked that the box that had no return address and opened it. His stomach lurched at the sight before him. Inside the box sat ten perfectly manicured and bloody finger nails with a set of wedding rings. His heart sank, what were they doing to his wife. The room started spinning, when did it get so hot in here, oh god his stomach was turning and the bile was rising. Jay swiftly leaned over and threw up in the garbage can next to his desk, which led everyone to look over at him, concerned.
"Jay?" Hailey questioned.
Jay slid the box across her desk. Hailey looked inside and then sat down with her hand covering her mouth. Hank put a hand on his shoulder. Jay finally broke.
"Sarge, they…they… oh my god.' Sobs racked his body, 'I cant do this again, I cant lose her I wont survive it."
"Go home, go be with James."
The team watched as their brother, who had just lost all hope, walked down the stairs to head home to his son.
Jay walked through the door, tired as anything. James' rambunctious little body came hurdling into his legs wrapping his tiny arms around his father.
"Hi Daddy!"
Jay lifted the tiny boy onto his hip.
"Hey there kiddo."
"Did you find Mommy today?"
Jay sighed and tried not to cry.
"Not yet."
James' smiled faded and he tilted his head.
"Your eyes are red."
"Daddy's sad buddy."
James laid his head on Jay's shoulder.
"Mes too, daddy."
Jay thanked Mouse for watching James. Mouse mentioned how he had dinner ready for them, and meals prepped for the week. Mouse offered to stay and watch James so Jay could shower, but Jay declined. Once Mouse left, Jay plopped down on the couch still holding James. James said nothing but just held onto his father, it was like they both knew something bad was on the horizon.
"You know,' Jay began, 'I lost mommy like this once. And I worked non stop till we brought her home. But she was different."
"Mommy says her brain is different."
"Yes, now it is."
"Will her brain be different again?" James asked.
"Um, ya know, I don't really know kiddo. I just want to bring her home."
"I think I'll love her no matters what."
Jay softly smiled.
"Yeah buddy me too."
"How much longer do you really think you can do this?"
Olivia was barely breathing, it hurt too much to take in air and her labored breaths sounded like they were a bowl of rice crispies. Her eyes to swollen to open, and she was sure her nose was broken, maybe even her jaw, her hands were for sure broken, and her body just radiated pain everywhere.
"Please just let me go."
"It's funny, when I first saw you, I thought you were just some side piece. And then, oh then I found out you were the wife of a detective, a profiting business owner-"
"A mother, I'm a mother." Olivia interjected.
"Disgusting, children are such life sucking vile creatures."
Suddenly everything became to heavy, breathing took too much effort and Olivia's head lulled forwards.
"Ugh, what? Is she dead?"
Someone reached forward and touched Olivia's neck.
"Afraid so ma'am."
With a dissatisfied and annoyed dramatic sigh, the crow bar fell to the floor.
"I barely got my shots in. Dispose of her body in 24 hours."
"Where too."
A knowing smirk appeared.
"Chicago Med. Let Jay Halstead bury his wife, knowing and living with the fact that he killed his wife."
"We got a body outside, grab a bed, Dr Halstead, you're up." Maggie called.
Will put on gloves and headed out the front door with Maggie.
"What do we got?" He asked.
"I have no idea this girl is too beaten to tell."
Glancing down Will noticed she had no finger nails. Strange, he thought to have no finger nails.
"Lungs are filled with fluid, free fluid in the belly, she's gotta have broken bones and fractures everywhere. Dear god, this poor girl."
They rolled the body into a bay and started cutting off clothes. Will was cutting the sleeve when he froze.
"Stop, stop, everyone stop."
"Will, what's wrong?" Maggie asked.
"It's…it's, oh my god, it's Olivia."
