Until The End, Part 3
With most of the Lahmus gone, the seven ships accelerate as they make their way towards Cambion Mons. While about a thousand Lahmus still remain, the ships are now able to sail past them without any problem. Some Lahmus even find themselves slamming against the bows of the ships as they fly towards them.
"It's about time!" Rita cried in relief as she holds up her lacrima.
"Sorry for the wait, Miss Mordio." Nolan said apologetically.
"Never mind that. Just remember what I said. You need to get me at least 30 meters away from the machine so that I can hack into its shield generator." Rita said.
"Working on it." Nolan replied before Rita signs off and puts away her lacrima.
Back inside the bridge of Cambion Mons, Bradley is shocked to see that thousands of white orbs have disappeared from the radar on the control panels in front of him, while seven large red rectangular-shaped objects still remain.
"That's impossible!" Bradley cried in horror.
"What's going on now?!" Cornelia yelled at him in annoyance from her chair. "It better not be bad."
"U-u-unfortunately, it is, ma'am!" Bradley replied as he glances at Cornelia over his shoulder. "About 9,032 out of the 10,000 Lahmus we have ordered to attack the enemy ships that are heading towards Cambion Mons…" He gulped nervously. "H-H-Have all-"
"Been eliminated?!" Cornelia snapped.
"Y-Y-Yes ma'am. A-and now t-they're accelerating t-towards us." Bradley said nervously before he looks back at the large and wide screen in front of him and everyone else in the bridge. Cornelia growls as she slams her fist on the armrest of her chair.
"Those damn knights and mages…" Cornelia muttered.
As the other six ships stay behind by about two hundred meters, Nolan's ship approaches the left side of Cambion Mons as the large machine kept walking towards the city of Crocus.
"Stay back and take care of any remaining beast that try to attack us. Hold your fire against Cambion Mons until we have taken care of Cornelia and Mard Geer, destroyed the shield generator, and evacuated the area." Nolan said to the other captains through the large lacrima in front of him.
"Understood." The six captains replied before Nolan signs them off, leaving only a visualization of Rita floating above the lacrima.
"That's close enough, Captain!" Rita yelled.
"Slow down!" Nolan yelled to the two rune knights sitting behind the ship's controls. They lower the speed, and the ship continues trailing beside Cambion Mons at a slow pace. "I'm going to the deck to join them. Take care of this place while I'm gone."
"Yes sir!" All the knights in the control room responded in unison before Nolan turns around and runs off.
Everyone present on the deck rush over to the ship's starboard and stare at the metal plating that makes up the body of Cambion Mons. As they stand behind the railing, Rita swipes her arm through the air to bring up three circular glyphs in front of her.
"Bingo. We're in range to perform my decoding magic." Rita said with a smirk. She cracks her knuckles and begin typing on a keyboard on the middle glyph. Natsu, Lucy, Gray, Erza, Wendy, Darren, Alicia, Sheena, and the others watch in awe as the mage rapidly taps her fingertips on the keys and occasionally uses one of her hands to turn a knob on the left and right glyphs.
"Hold on, guys. This will take about two minutes." Rita said.
"That long?" Gajeel asked.
"Hey, when I was brainwashed, I was ordered by Cornelia and Nullpudding to make the most advanced security system for Cambion Mons, alright?" Rita said in annoyance while her eyes are still fixated on the glyphs in front of her.
"Oh yeah. My bad." Gajeel said sheepishly as Nolan runs over to him and the others from behind.
"Get ready to break in as soon as the shields are down." Nolan said. Everyone in front of him nod their heads in response.
"Ma'am! Not only is there an enemy ship hovering 30 meters beside Cambion Mons on the left, but I also picked up someone hacking into our shield generator! They are planning to take down our defences!" Wilhelm yelled in alarm.
"Hacking into the shield generator?" Cornelia said softly as she rubs her chin. "But with Nullpudding behind bars, there is only one other person who knows the codes to-" She gasps and widens her eyes for a moment before she snarls and slams her fist onto the armrest of her chair again. "Rita Mordio! That damn girl! I was hoping she would have died during the mass suicide!"
"I'm hoping you still have an idea to frustrate the enemy now that nearly half of our Lahmus are gone." Mard Geer said sternly to Cornelia. As her lips quickly form into a wide smile, Cornelia sits up straight on her chair.
"Of course I do, master." Cornelia said calmly as she swipes her left hand upward to bring up a small menu beside her. She slightly turns her head to the left and slides her finger down on the menu. "Prepare yourself, Rita Mordio." Cornelia's teeth suddenly broke out into a diabolical grin. "For I have made some additional features to my machine without your consent!"
While the others continue watching Rita hack into the shield generator, Wendy and Carla slightly turn to their right and look over the railing to see seven metal panels slide open at the side of Cambion Mons's underbelly.
"What's happening over there?" Carla asked as she and Wendy widen their eyes. Natsu, Lucy, Gray, Erza, Darren, Alicia, Sheena, and the others turn their attention away from Rita and are surprised to see seven yellow glowing metallic tentacles emerging out from the holes.
"Miss Mordio, what are those?" Sheena cried worriedly. Rita stops tapping her fingers on the keyboard and turns her head to the right to see what everyone is staring at. She soon drops her jaw as they see the middle tentacle pulling itself back.
"FALL BACK!" Rita shouted as she turns to the ship's control room.
But it was too late as the tentacle swings horizontally and slams against the right side of Nolan's ship. Natsu, Lucy, Darren, Alicia, Nolan, Rita, and the others all cry and tumble as the impact sends the ship flying away from Cambion Mons and circling around through the air uncontrollably.
"Captain Mathias!" Macey and Tryo both yelled in horror as they and the other captains watch Nolan's ship flung past in front of them and fall towards the ground below. They look back at Cambion Mons and see the three tentacles at the left side of its back section coming towards them. All six ships quickly turn to their left and try to steer away from the tentacles.
Seconds later, Nolan's ship crashes onto the ground below by its bow and keel. It slides through the ground by several kilometres and leaves behind a long trail before it finally comes to a halt. When it did, the back section of the ship comes down about half a minute later, and it slams onto the ground with a deafening thud.
"Hang on, everyone!" Emmanuel shouted to everyone on the deck of his ship after spinning the helm to the left.
However, a few seconds later, the backmost tentacle of Cambion Mons swings downward onto the frontmost section of Emmanuel's ship. This causes the ship to flip over in a vertical direction. Emmanuel lets out a yell as he clings onto the helm while Amelia, Jason and Yegor stumble and grab onto the railing in front of them. Everyone who is still on the deck scream and yell as they tumble and slide down the floor. Brenda, Mei Li and Bacchus manage to grab onto the ship's main mast when they reach it while Jager quickly thrusts his fist at the heavily damaged front section of Emmanuel's ship. Several vines burst out from the floor and quickly go over to Jager, Hina, Hodaka and the remaining Quatro Cerberus members. When they reach them, they coil themselves around their bodies and lift them up into the air. The Mizuhan warriors who are still inside the bottom of the ship all yell and scream helplessly as some of them slam against the front section of the room, while others collide with them from behind. Some who are fortunate are able to stab their swords onto the walls as the ship is being capsized, but they are now trying their best to hold onto the hilts as they are being hung up in the air.
Meanwhile, while Ichiya, Tryo and Macey are able to fly their ships away from Cambion Mons, Jellal and Sumeragi did not as the other two back tentacles manage to grab and coil around the back section of their ships as they try to flee.
"Mizuhans!" Sumeragi shouted to the Mizuhans who are stationed below her ship from the control room. "Use Volt's Lightning to-AAAAHHH!"
Before she could finish giving her command, Sumeragi falls off from her seat when the backmost tentacle swings itself downward onto the center of her ship, breaking it in half. Mei and Ayase were able to get out of the way, but they now find themselves sliding down the floor and towards the large gap which the tentacle had created. Ayase, who is at the right side of the gap, quickly turns around and claws her fingers at the floor in an attempt to slow her fall. While she is on the other side, Mei quickly gets up and uses her jetpack to fly up and hover in the air. She looks back at Ayase in concern as the armoured fighter is still slowly sliding towards the edge of the gap.
"Don't worry about me! GO!" Ayase shouted to Mei as she looks at her over her shoulder. Mei worriedly nods her head to her before flying away. Ayase looks down at the edge of the gap below her for a moment before closing her eyes behind her helmet. She soon felt her fingers falling off from the edge, and she finds herself plummeting through the air. The other thirty-seven Mizuhans who were stationed at the bottom of the ship are trying their best to hold onto the hilts of their swords which they had stabbed into the floor earlier.
"HOLD ON!" Tsugumi shouted as she and Shinji cling onto their seats. Sumeragi hurriedly gets herself back up on her feet before she runs over to Tsugumi from behind and holds tightly onto the back of her chair.
As Sumeragi, Tsugumi and Shinji prepare for what is to come, Mei flies above the ship's control room and aims her bow and arrow at it. She fires the arrow and when it lands, its explosion creates a large hole above everybody inside the room. Sumeragi and Tsugumi turn around as they and Shinji watch Mei flies through the hole and lands securely onto the sloped floor with her hover soles.
"Come on! We're getting out of here!" Mei yelled at them as she extends her hand out to Sumeragi and Tsugumi.
"Get away from it!" Jellal shouted to Sawyer, Richard, and Wally as the three of them leave the quarterdeck and run down the stairs to join him and the others on the front deck. The tentacle soon tightens its grip, crushing the quarterdeck and most of the back section of Crime Sorciere's ship in the process. As the tentacle moves away, it causes the ship to capsize in a vertical direction. Jellal, Erigor and the members of Crime Sorciere and Mermaid Heel yelp as they tumble and slide down the floor. The Mizuhans who are stationed below the ship also yell as they fall out from the large hole that the tentacle had created.
"Hang on, everyone!" Jager shouted as everyone on deck looked down to see the front section of Emmanuel's ship is now literally aiming towards the ground below.
When he heard Hina whimpering, Hodaka turns to his right and sees tears starting to form in her eyes.
"Is this it? Am I going to die? Will I never see my family and beautiful Mizuho again?" Hina sobbed.
"Hold onto my hand!" Hodaka cried to her as he holds out his hand. Hina turns her head and stares at him briefly before she obliges and grabs it. "No matter what happens, don't let go!"
Hina sniffled before she manages to choke out, "My name…is Hina Amano."
Hodaka gave her a wan smile before he replied, "Nice to meet you, Hina. My name is Hodaka Morishima."
Soon, one of Cambion Mons's back tentacles decides to bring the demise of Emmanuel's ship sooner than expected by swinging itself horizontally and colliding against the center of the ship, but barely missing its main mast. The ship is soon smashed and broken in half, and Jager's vines uncoil themselves around their user, Hina, Hodaka and the other Quatro Cerberus members. Everyone yells and screams again as they find themselves plummeting through the air.
"Brace for impact!" Emmanuel yelled to everyone in despair as he places his hand on top of his cap.
As they hold onto each other's hands, Brenda and Mei Li manage to pull themselves into a tight embrace. Brenda could feel Mei Li tremble as she sobs onto her shoulder.
"This is it, boys. It's been fun." Bacchus said sadly as he looks down at his fellow guildmates. The other members of Quatro Cerberus nod their heads to him before they all look down at the ground below with solemn frowns, ready to accept the inevitable.
Jason and Yegor grab onto each other's hands as the latter said to the other, "It was an honor fighting alongside you."
"I wish I could have shown you my family ranch." Jason replied sadly to Yegor. Amelia soon falls over to the two men and wraps her arms around them.
"I wish to be back home." Amelia whimpered as she buries her face onto their chests as tears pool through her closed eyelids. Jason and Yegor close their eyes as well and place their heads against hers.
"Us too." Yegor said softly.
"HODAKA!" Hina screamed as she looks up and reaches her hand out to Hodaka.
"HINA!" Hodaka yelled as he falls above her. He extends his arm out and tries to grab her hand. It took a few tries for them to do so, but on their third attempt, both Hina and Hodaka manage to grab one hand and they pull themselves closer to grab the other. While clinging onto each other's hands, Hodaka and Hina stare into each other's eyes as they continue falling through the air.
"Hina-san, I'm sure…we'll be alright." Hodaka said with a warm smile. Although she does not believe what he said, Hina still nods her head and smiles back at him regardless. She closes her eyes as she lowers her head and holds up their hands. Hodaka closes his eyes too as he places his forehead against hers.
After looking at everyone around him, Emmanuel stares back at the ground below for a brief moment before closing his eyes. He uttered sombrely as he prepares for the inevitable,
"God help us all."
Meanwhile, Kama points his finger at the falling ships in the distance as he and the other Garou Knights ride their motorcycles through the open field outside the boundaries of Crocus.
"There are survivors falling down from those ships! We have to help them!" Kama shouted to his fellow Garou Knights. He turns to his left and ordered Uosuke. "Uosuke! Use your Terrain Effect to change the gravity below the survivors!"
"Understood!" Uosuke replied before he accelerates his motorcycle, drives past the other Garou Knights, and makes his way over to the falling ships.
Kama now turns to his right and ordered the pink-haired executioner beside him, "Cosmos! Summon your vines from the ground and catch as many survivors as you can."
"You got it." Cosmos replied calmly before she too drives past Kama and the others and joins Uosuke.
"Neppa! Summon your Multi-Angle Acid and use them to burn off any falling debris that are above the survivors!" Kama yelled at a large build and overly muscular man on his left.
"Consider it done!" Neppa responded as he stands up from the seat of his motorcycle and swings his left arm horizontally through the air to form numerous purple spheres of corrosive acid in front of him. He thrusts his left hand to send the spheres flying towards the ships.
As Erigor, Jellal, Meredy, Shou, Wally, Kagura and the other members of Crime Sorciere and Mermaid Heel fall through the air, the former Eisenwald member suddenly thrusts his hand at the ground below and forms a large purple magical glyph in front of him.
"STORM BRINGER!" Erigor shouted.
A few seconds later, a large tornado forms from the ground and flies up to him, Jellal, Kagura and the others. Everyone except Erigor, Jellal and Kagura all yell as they circle around the tornado.
"Hang on, everyone!" Erigor yelled as he holds up his hand and lowers the tornado to safely bring him and the others down to the ground below.
Meanwhile, Uosuke and Cosmos stand up from the seats of their motorcycles when they are about two kilometres away from the falling ships. Uosuke holds up two fingers while Cosmos thrusts her hand at the ground below Emmanuel's ship.
About a hundred large vines suddenly emerge from the ground and launch towards Emmanuel, Brenda, Mei Li, Amelia, Jason, Yegor, Hina, Hodaka, the members of Quatro Cerberus and the Mizuhan warriors. As the vines catch them by coiling around their bodies, everyone opens their eyes in surprise as they find themselves being lifted in the air. Before the debris from Emmanuel's ship could fall on top of them, Neppa's spheres of acid reach and quickly dissolve them into thin air.
Emmanuel stares down at the vines and the ground in bewilderment for a few seconds before he lets out a chuckle as a huge smile takes form on his face. After realizing that their bodies are pressed against each other as the vines are wrapped tightly around them, Hina and Hodaka blush as they gaze into each other's eyes. But they soon burst into laughter as both are delighted and relieved to be alive.
"WHOO! It's great to be alive!" Amelia whooped excitedly as Cosmos's vines wrapped tightly around her, Jason and Yegor. The other two men laughed cheerfully as the vines begin to lower all of them safely to the ground.
Meanwhile, Uosuke slowly lowers his hands to manipulate gravity and gently bring all the Mizuhan warriors who were originally stationed inside Jellal and Sumeragi's ships down to the ground. After standing back up, the Mizuhans look up and widen their eyes in awe as they see Neppa's spheres of acid dissolving the destroyed ships above them.
When Erigor, Jellal, Meredy, Shou, Wally, Kagura and the other members of Crime Sorciere and Mermaid Heel also reach the bottom, the former Eisenwald member swings his arm through the air to dissipate his tornado. Everyone rolls over the ground before getting themselves back up.
"You saved us all. Thank you, Erigor." Jellal said to Erigor with a warm smile.
After Erigor looks around to see Jellal, Meredy, Millianna, Kagura, Shou, Wally and the other members of Crime Sorciere and Mermaid Heel all smiling gratefully at him, his lips form into a weak smile and he bows his head to them.
"You're welcome. All of you." Erigor said.
While the Mizuhans attend to each other, Mei slowly descends to the ground and places Sumeragi, Tsugumi and Shinji down. The three of them have been clinging onto Mei and each other the whole time, with Sumeragi grabbing her arm while Tsugumi and Shinji wrap their arms around the ship captain. After touching the ground, Sumeragi releases Mei's arm. The inventor lands as well and deactivates her jetpack.
"Where's Ayase?" Tsugumi asked worriedly as she and Shinji look around. "I hope that armour protects her from the fall."
"There she is!" Shinji yelled as he points his finger at an armoured warrior lying on the ground about a hundred meters away from them.
"AYASE!" Tsugumi cried in horror as she, Sumeragi, Shinji and Mei quickly make their way over to her. Ayase groans painfully as the four of them reach her. Her horned helmet has since been removed and is laying on the ground beside her on the left.
"Are you okay?" Mei asked concernedly as she kneels beside her.
"Y-Y-Yeah, I think. This armour is able to soften the impact of my fall, but I think some parts of my body are broken." Ayase winced. "How did you guys survive?"
"I got them out of the control room and fly them away from the ship in time. The other Mizuhans are also still alive because someone who has the ability to manipulate gravity arrived in time to save all of them."
"Such a shame…t-they didn't arrive sooner to c-catch me then." Ayase groaned.
"Hang in there. We're going to get you out of here." Sumeragi said reassuringly to Ayase. However, when Tsugumi and Shinji look up in the sky, they widen their eyes and drop their jaws in horror.
"It's them again!" Shinji cried as he points his finger at the Lahmus flying above them. Sumeragi and Mei look up and the former grits her teeth.
"Curses." Sumeragi muttered. Mei looks back at Ayase and hurriedly helps to remove the chest plate of her Qital Dire armour.
"Stay still!" Mei said to her.
When Kama, Kamika and Neppa arrive, they stop their motorcycles beside Cosmos and Uosuke. Soon after getting off their vehicles, the Garou Knights, along with Jellal, Meredy, Erigor, Emmanuel, Brenda, Mei Li, Hina, Hodaka, the Mizuhans and everyone else look up to see the thousand surviving Lahmus flying down to them.
"We got company." Kama said coldly as he draws out his scythes from his back.
"Man, just when I wish we could rest for a while, these creatures are back to fight us." Bacchus said as he and his guildmates get into their fighting stances.
"Don't worry! You got us to help you out!" Uosuke said smiling as he, Cosmos, Neppa and Kamika prepare to fight as well.
"So, what made you guys come out all the way here anyway?" Bacchus asked Uosuke.
"After Chief Arcadios accepted your assistance in fighting against that giant machine, he ordered us to go out to the battlefield and help you guys out." Uosuke explained.
"Of course, by the time we arrive, you guys have already lost some ships." Cosmos added.
"We'll manage." Emmanuel responded to her as he holds up his boomerang. "Prepare for battle, everyone!"
"Time to take more of these champs out!" Amelia yelled as she draws out her sword and extends its blade again. Jason, Yegor, Brenda and Mei Li quietly get into their fighting stances as well.
Hina and Hodaka nod their heads to each other before the former summons her water gauntlets around her hands again. Hodaka clenches his own gauntlets as the two look up at the Lahmus and prepare to fight.
As Shou, Wally, Erigor and the members of Crime Sorciere and Mermaid Heel get into their fighting stances as well, Jellal holds up his fists and takes a step back as huge amounts of yellow energy flow through his body.
As the Lahmus laugh and sneer at everyone below them, Jellal yelled angrily at them, "Laugh all you want! But we won't go down so easily!"
"Nolan! Can you hear me?!"
Nolan groans and groggily opens his eyes when he could finally hear Erza calling out to him in concern. When his vision became clearer, he sees Erza and Wendy kneeling beside him while Natsu, Lucy, Gray, Darren, Alicia, Sheena, and Rita stand around them. He also notices Tryo's, Ichiya's and Macey's ships hovering above them in the sky. They all sigh in relief before Erza said, "Thank goodness you're alright."
"Yeah…that wasn't a good landing." Nolan commented as Erza extends her hand to him. He grabs it and the red-haired mage pulls him up from the floor as she stands. Nolan turns to Rita and he asked sternly, "Miss Mordio, why didn't you tell us that Cambion Mons has several large tentacles installed inside it?"
"I swear, Captain. I didn't know it has that. Cornelia probably built them in without my knowledge." Rita explained as Wendy stands up.
"She's telling the truth. Wendy and I can feel it." Natsu said solemnly to Nolan while Wendy nods her head.
"And after what Cornelia did to Ivan and Alexei for her own goals, we believe her." Alicia added.
As Darren and Alicia step aside, Nolan steps forward and looked relieved to see Jeanne, Sting, Rogue, Gajeel, Erik, Allelujah, Marie, Momo, Shouto, Makoto, C.C., Kirito, Yui, Happy and Carla still alive and standing around the front deck of his ship.
"Are you guys alright?" Nolan asked.
"We're fine. Some of us did get injured when the ship crashed. But Wendy quickly healed our injuries." Allelujah replied.
"About 3 Rune Knights in the control room and 13 Mizuhans in the bottom of the ship are still alive. Sadly, the other 3 Knights and 15 Mizuhans died from the impact. There was nothing we can do." Kirito said grimly, lowering his head. Nolan frowns as he silently places his hand on Kirito's shoulder.
"Captain Mathias! Are you alright?! Answer me!" Tryo's voice of concern suddenly breaks the moment of silence.
Kirito looks back up at Nolan and they both nod their heads to each other. After removing his hand from his shoulder, Nolan quickly takes out his lacrima from his pocket and answers it, "I'm here, Lieutenant. I'm perfectly fine, and so is Team Natsu and many others."
Tryo lets out a sigh. "Thank goodness."
"Where are the other three ships?" Nolan asked as he and everyone else on deck look up at the three ships hovering above them.
"Ships 5, 9 and 11 are destroyed." Tryo reported. Erza immediately gasped in horror as soon as she finished.
"Jellal!" Erza cried frantically before she rushes over to Nolan. "Where is he?!"
"Captain Mathias?! Lieutenant Eriksson?! Can anyone hear me?!" Nolan, Erza and the others suddenly heard Jellal yelling from the captain's lacrima.
"Jellal!" Erza cried in concern and relief.
"We can hear you, Jellal!" Nolan responded. "Where are you?"
"Our ships crashed where Cambion Mons was minutes ago. Thankfully, all of us are still alive, including Emmanuel and Sumeragi, thanks to the help of the Garou Knights. Unfortunately, remember the thousand beasts that survive Christina 3.0's attack? We are now dealing with them." Jellal said.
"Hang in there, Jellal!" Erza replied as she spreads out the wings of her Black Wing Armor. "I'm on my way to help-"
"No!" Jellal objected. "We can handle these monsters ourselves! You and the others need to stick to what we have planned and deal with Cornelia and Cambion Mons!"
"But Jellal!" Erza cried. However, her guildmates go over to her and Natsu places his hand on her shoulder.
"Erza, please. Jellal has a point. Our main priority is to take down Cornelia and her machine. We have no time to waste." Natsu said firmly.
"He's right! We have to stop it from firing its main cannon at the Flower Light Palace right now!" Rita yelled. "While I was decoding the shield generator, I detected a signal from their bridge that its main cannon is 75% charged. If it reaches 100, you can all kiss the capital goodbye!"
"We have to keep moving, Erza." Nolan said firmly to Erza while Lucy, Gray, Wendy, Happy and Carla nod their heads to her.
"Have faith in your friend." Lucy said reassuringly.
Erza glances at the other members of Team Natsu before letting out a sigh. She looks back at Nolan's lacrima and said concernedly, "Alright. Be careful, Jellal."
"I will. Win this battle for us!" Jellal yelled before signing off.
"Control room! Bring our ship back up in the air!" Nolan commanded to his lacrima.
"Yes Captain!" The navigation officer quickly responded. Everyone on the deck soon felt a low rumble on the floor and the ship begins to ascend.
"May I ask what the condition of our ship is?" Nolan asked.
"The starboard, bow and underbelly are critically damaged. Its overall condition is down to 45% after the attack from Cambion Mons." The navigation officer said.
"Understood." Nolan said before signing off. His ship rises to the same level as the other three surviving ships and hovers in the air.
"Welcome back, Captain." Macey said.
"Where is Cambion Mons now, Macey?" Nolan asked her through his lacrima.
"About 2 kilometres away from Crocus." Macey replied.
Nolan, Team Natsu and the others on deck quickly turn to the direction of Crocus and clearly see Cambion Mons now crawling near the city walls. Nolan narrows his eyes and says to Macey, "Then we better get moving."
