Chapter 55

Amanda arrived at Spencer's and after parking the car and locking the door, she thought about Jamie's behavior earlier at home that evening. While it was understandable that Jamie would admire Lee a bit, due to the circumstances the two went through, she felt she still needed to discuss the matter with Lee, and maybe he could offer a solution to the problem.

Entering the restaurant, she came up to the hostess, Brenda, as was indicated on the woman's tag, saying, "Hello. I'm meeting Lee Stetson here?"

Brenda nodded and looking at her guest sheet, answered as she gestured, "Yes, Ma'am, right this way..."

As Brenda walked Amanda towards the back of the restaurant, Amanda noticed how crowded the place seemed, which was normal for a Friday night at 6:45.

There were two to three booths along the right side of the wall of the back room as Amanda and Brenda entered, with Lee situated at the very end.

He got up from the booth seeing Amanda, and smiling, greeted her with a peck on the cheek whispering as he admired her outfit, "You look fabulous..."

Lee's response caused Amanda to blush, making her glad that she'd chosen this outfit, in what she thought was his favorite color, red, "Thank you..."Amanda acknowledged, taking in how handsome Lee looked in his dark blue suit and light blue shirt.

As they were seated, Brenda answered, "I'll send Nelle right over. Enjoy your evening..."

Lee and Amanda thanked her, with Amanda noticing no drink at his spot, asked, "You didn't get a drink yet?"

Lee shook his head. "It's alright. I wanted to wait until you got here-"

Just then, a fair-haired woman approached the table remarking as she handed Lee and Amanda menus, "Hi, I'm Nelle. I'll be your server this evening. Can I get you a drink to start?"

Lee gestured Amanda's way, and Amanda answered, "White wine, please."

Lee stated, "And I'll have a Scotch, neat, please."

Nelle quickly wrote down the orders remarking, "Alright. I'll be over soon with your drinks, and I'll give you some time to look over the menu. Our special tonight is Rack Of Lamb, with asparagus tips."

They thanked Nelle as she left the table and Lee then noticing Amanda's expression queried, "You okay?"

Amanda commented, "We have to talk."

Lee nodded slowly. "Okay, what's up?"

Amanda took a sip of the water that was on the table in front of her, and swallowing stated as she looked around the restaurant and then back at Lee, "Um, well, first of all, I'm really glad we were finally able to have some alone time together...You know, this really is a nice place, and the food is incredible-"

Lee sighed, knowing a stall tactic when he heard one, and reaching over with his right hand to cover Amanda's left one he asked, "Amanda? Please? What's going on?"

Amanda shrugged. "Okay, we may have another problem with Jamie-"

Lee, concerned, queried, "Another bad dream?"

Amanda shook her head quickly, "No. But he's been talking to Phillip about you-bragging a bit, and it's causing a rift-"

Lee asked, "He didn't mention our work, did he?"

Amanda commented, "No, but according to Phillip, it sounded as though Jamie had put you on a pedestal-and before you start preening your feathers as it were, I-I told Mother I'd bring you back to the house to meet her-"

Lee put up a hand immediately responding, "Hold it! I thought we decided-"

Amanda retorted, "You decided, Mister! I only agreed because I know your shyness-"

Lee growled, "I'm not shy!"

Just then, Nelle appeared with the drinks, and placing them on the table asked, "Have you decided on your orders yet?"

Lee clearing his throat remarked, "I'm sorry, no. Can you come back in a bit?"

Nelle nodded and replied, "I'll be in the bar area. Just let one of the other servers know when you are ready and they can get me."

Amanda smiled as Nelle left, "Thank you, Nelle."

Lee sighed as he looked at Amanda. "I'm sorry. You're right. I should just go meet your family without having a hang up about it-" Lee began hesitating before saying,"It's just that this isn't a cover I'm doing, it's really me this time, and I don't want to make a bad impression, you know?'

Amanda touched his hand answering, "It'll be alright. I promise. And maybe while you're there, we can set Jamie straight on a few things."

Lee nodded, and then smiling commented, "Yeah...So, what looks good to you?"

Amanda, returning the smile, replied flirting a bit as she grabbed her menu, "Besides you? Oh, you mean the food...Well, let's see..."

And after looking over the menu choices, they both opted to share the special, and have the house salad.

And it went from there, as the two spent the rest of the evening talking and laughing like they hadn't in a long time...
