A/N: My sincerest apologies for lack of updates on anything. Work is crazy, son is annoying, time to write is infrequent, and muse isn't cooperating. Very bad combination to get writing accomplished! I hope this chapter isn't seen as filler and is more to your liking. And the return of Jada as requested.
Mac can only silently nod her agreement with his statement before she spies a familiar figure in purple scrubs passing by in a rush. Mac lowly chuckles as she notices the nurse also has something half-dressed dangling by her side. She calls out, "Jada! Were you planning on saying 'hello' or just going on your merry way?"
The friendly nurse halts in her path, taking an immediate step backwards at the sound of her name. She whirls around, happily surprised by the identity of the voice holder, and exclaims, "Mac! Harm! My sincerest apologies, I didn't see you sitting there. I was on my way to pediatrics to return a lost toy."
Mac laughs, "I'm not surprised since you were flying by at Mach Speed."
Harm smiles for the first time since they got to the hospital when he sees the object she is carrying and chimes in, "Umm. Jada, it looks like Mr. Potato Head is missing his pants."
Jada glances down at the very bare brown behind she is carrying, and turns red, "Oops! That's pretty embarrassing. Although not quite as bad as some of my patients I have had over the years. I've seen many grown men accidently baring their backsides in hospital gowns by not tying them correctly or a slight breeze passing by at the most inopportune time. I can only hope that the young man I am returning Mr. Potato Head to has his clothes." Shoving him in her pocket she adds, "In the meantime, let's put him a little somewhere a little less obvious."
Harm shakes his head, "Yes, and if memory serves, I distinctly recall the two of you ganging up on me trying to make me one of those unfortunate victims the day I was released."
Jada winks at Mac as she takes the seat next to her, "Hmm. I don't seem to recall this scenario. Do you know what he is referring to, Mac?"
Mac shrugs with a twinkle in her eye, "Haven't the faintest clue." She adds in a whisper, "But I'll still bet it's the cutest six in whole Navy."
Harm's eyes go wide, "I heard that, Marine."
The corner of Mac's lips curve upward, "And? I thought I had permission to look now."
Harm's cheeks redden, "Jada, a little help here, please!"
Jada throws her head back in laughter, "No problem. Stand up and turn around."
Harm's brows edge up to his hairline, "What?"
The cheeky nurse grins, "Well, I can't very well offer any assistance if I can't preview the merchandise and render an opinion. And I've had plenty of frames of reference over the years."
Mac covers her mouth with her hand, failing miserably to suppress the giggles emerging.
Harm wiggles his index finger at both them, "I think the two of you need to go for a coffee break!"
Jada ignores his remark and inquires, "What are you guys doing here anyway?"
Mac smiles widely, glad that her Flyboy's mood seems to have shifted to the happier side, and hoping that her comment doesn't send him back behind his shell, "We're here for Harm's follow-up appointment with the neurologist."
Jada nods, "Aha! Finally getting sprung from your cell?"
Mac answers, "Hopefully. Although it hasn't been too bad putting up with him. He even feeds me three square meals a day."
Harm rolls his eyes, "I believe her question was directed to me, Mac! You have been able to come and go as you please."
Mac rapid fires back, "You can answer her too, Flyboy."
He interlaces his fingers with Mac's and looks at Jada, "It's actually been very nice. And the warden has taken excellent care of me. She even let me have yard time and T.V. time."
Mac slugs him playfully in the shoulder, "Keep it up, Sailor, and you are going to end up in solitary confinement."
Harm frowns at Mac's comment. Even though he knows she is only teasing, he is actually afraid that if he is given the "all clear" to return to work and other normal activities that she will go back to her own apartment, leaving him alone in his. And he wants her to stay. Perhaps they should have talked about what the plan was for after this appointment, regardless of which way it goes.
Mac immediately notices the change in his demeanor, and squeezes his hand, "Harm, I was only joking." As he bows his head, Mac shoots a pleading look at her newfound friend.
Jada takes that as her cue to leave, "It was great seeing you guys, but I really should get the mister back to his rightful owner before I hear squeals over missing toys invading the children's ward. Good luck today!"
Harm and Mac both nod their thanks as Mac verbally adds, "I'll call you later to schedule that lunch. Thanks again for everything."
As Jada heads back down the corridor, Mac slides her hand to cup Harm's chin raising his face so that she can look into his eyes, "Harm, what's wrong?"
A normally cocky fighter pilot shouldn't be this insecure about a woman, but he is. She isn't just a woman, she is the woman, or as his mother once coined, "quite the girl." He swallows the lump that has taken up residence in his throat as he shyly answers, "Will you still be here when you don't have to be anymore?"
She doesn't hesitate with her heartfelt response, "For eternity if you'll let me."
