What if a poison dart had hit Blu instead of Nigel?

After the explosion, everyone fell silent.

"Blu!" shouted Jewel seeing a fireball in the air, which most likely included Blu.

"Nigel..." sighed Gabi also seeing this disturbing sight. They all stood unmoved in place quietly, as if they were just paying homage. Perhaps this was a good opportunity, after such an explosion hardly anyone would survive, the probability of surviving such an explosion is low. The silence was broken by a Macaw spix coming from above to Eduard.

"I saw it, two birds were falling from the fireball to the ground".

"It's Blu!" shouted Jewel

"And Nigel!" thought Gabi.

"You follow me, I'll lead you" said the parrot pointing towards the landing site, followed by about half the flock of spix Macaw.

Meanwhile Blu and Nigel were momentarily rendered unconscious by a sudden explosion. Both had become entangled in a single net of ivy as they fell, making them face their beaks.

A moment later they woke up, with quite a surprise greeting them when they saw each other at such close range.

"Now I've got you! I'll scratch your Eye out!" shouted Nigel, trying to hold Blu down with his wings, but the latter defended himself quite well by pushing his opponent away.

"Get off me!" shouted Blu laughing as Nigel began to tickle him so that the latter would not be able to defend himself against the later attack. Soon Gabi and his sidekick came to the scene of the fight.

"This is the moment! Quick, shoot!" said Gabi as they positioned themselves at a comfortable angle.

"Shoot!" repeated Gabi, whereupon the anteater fired a bullet at Blu, which hit him in the lower back

"Auch!" exclaimed Blu feeling a painful sting on his back, at which Nigel started laughing.

"And what are you laughing at?" asked Blu surprised at Nigel's reaction.

"I'm laughing...heheh...because you're already dead" said Nigel putting his sinister laugh between expressions.

"How so?" asked Blu with a hint of disbelief.

"That arrow was stuffed with poison, deadly poison! I finally got you Blu!" said Nigel with triumph and ecstasy. Blu listened to Nigel's statement and then for both of them cut through the ivy, causing them to fall to the ground.

"Hm... But I feel fine" Blu said looking at the arrow he had on his back.

"But what do you mean, nothing hurts? No nausea or anything like that? Maybe it will happen in a few minutes" Nigel asked. Blu just shook his head negatively.

"Gabi, you are a poisonous frog after all!" growled an angry Nigel.

"But... I don't know what this is about either!"

"This frog isn't poisonous at all," Bia interjected into the conversation as she and the others reached them. They all surrounded Blu and Nigel blocking the way in all directions.

"How is it not poisonous?"

"And yes it is. This frog has dark pink spots and not black. It's a common mistake." Bia added.

"So that means from the very beginning... Ahhh! I'll sort it out myself!" shouted Nigel, then threw himself at Blu. Immediately several spix Macaw entered the centre of the surrounded field pulling Nigel away from Blu.

"Well, you come with us" said one parrot pulling Nigel by the wing. They carefully tied him up and positioned themselves next to him.

"But how did he find us here?" asked Blu.

"By the harbour" replied Gabi.

"Shut up!" said Nigel, at which Gabi squinted her eyes.

"That would explain a lot..."

"I told you we got him from somewhere" said Rafael to his colleagues in the background.

"Are you okay?" asked Jewel coming over to Blu.

"Yeah... I think so" said Blu, after which they touched beaks with Jewel. Jewel meanwhile took out an arrow for Blu, he groaned a little at this, but not very loudly.

"Well, I think we can go back to our headquarters." Blu announced.

"And what do we do with him?" asked one spix Macaw standing next to Nigel.

"And actually I have an idea..." thought Blu smiling under his beak.

A few hours later

The Gunderson family enjoyed the rest of the day sitting with each other and playing. Blu was persuaded to tell what had happened up there, which he gladly did.

"When did you realize it was Nigel?" asked Tiago.

"Actually, something in my head told me it was him. I was sure when the mask fell off his face, that's when I noticed him." replied Blu.

"I was lucky it really wasn't a poisonous frog" said Blu wondering what would have happened if it was a poisonous frog.

"Well... But don't think about it, the important thing is that you are here with us" replied Jewel kissing him on the side of his beak.

Their family conversation was interrupted by Eduardo with his team who were transporting a whole dirty Nigel who was barely panting collapsing on the floor.

"Mother, what have you done to him?" asked Jewel looking at Nigel on the floor.

"Training always comes in handy" said Blu laughing at Eduardo.

"Training?" repeated Jewel.

"Yes, training. The same training as I was going through" added Blu.

"Wait, so what you were so dirty about then was Dad's training!" asked Jewel ominously looking towards Eduardo.

"Training? It was torture!" added Nigel as he caught some air.

"Don't complain, you tried to escape a few times, but you seriously thought you could do it when there were ten times as many of us?" asked Eduardo.

"You didn't answer my question," pointed out Jewel.

"Yes, Blu went through that too, but it paid off didn't it Blu?" replied Eduardo, to which Blu nodded with a motion of his head.

"If this is training then he doesn't want to know what exercises you have" said Nigel sighing.

"Do you want to know them?" asked Eduardo.

"No, leave it already" replied Blu.

"So what now?" asked Eduardo.

"Do as I say" replied Blu, to which Eduardo nodded with a motion of his head. Eduardo and the other Macaw spix took Nigel, then went somewhere else with him.

"What are they going to do with him?" asked Jewel.

"I told them to put him back in Tulia."

"But what for?"

"When he sees that he's tired and dirty, he'll think he's sick. They will take him back to Rio." Blu explained.

"Awww... You're so smart Blu," said Jewel.

"I just... I like to plan"

"Well... And have you planned anything for tonight?"

"Not yet" replied Blu. It was already approaching sunset. The colour of the sky was slowly changing from blue to blood orange, and a blood red sun was slowly starting to appear on the horizon. It was getting darker, but at the same time more atmospheric. With time, the Macaw spix began to gather in groups to admire this unusual phenomenon. Today was a special occasion, they had finally saved their settlement, which, despite appearances, might be for longer than it may seem.
