To Delia, the beginnings of each battle always came naturally. The nervous exhale, followed by the slight decision of her champion. She felt the smooth, cold metal rub against her fingertips, the heat of the light's glare on her scalp, the shiver down her spine, and the slight tremble of her fingertips. The noise from the stands slowly muted out of her periphery. She was in the second round, after all. Not many got to this point. Her last fight was out of pure anger. Now, it was about survival.

She heard a ball pop on the other side of the stand, and the deep cry of a bat reverberated across the field. Not just any bat, too. Its mouth gaped open in an eternal scream, framed by sharp teeth and topped with glaring eyes. The Golbat's wings sent dust flying around the spot where it hovered.

It wasn't just that her chosen warrior was her Kadabra; she needed to have a better strategy. She looked on as the light morphed into her pokemon but realized that her pokemon could be at a higher level. Delia needed to be on her toes.

The referee announced the beginning of the match, and Delia knew what to call.

"Kadabra, use confusion!"

She knew how Kadabra's eyes glowed blue when it released that psychic energy, sending a wall of blue blasts towards the massive bat. It recoiled back and started shaking its head.

Delia and Agatha both watched the Golbat fly towards Kadabra and lash out with its wings. It missed by a few feet, but it moved so erratically that it smacked itself with its own wing.

She heard the announcer observe that "it hit itself in confusion!"

Maybe one more attack.

"PSYBEAM!"

Now it lifted its spoon towards its forehead and used it to channel energy into a tri-colored beam aimed directly at the misguided bat. It collapsed in front of Kadabra. One down.

Delia took a breath as Agatha recalled her pokemon and replaced it with another. This one was familiar. Two hands hovered close to its spectral body, with a large toothy grin growing from ear to ear. Here's where it gets interesting
