As they were getting ready for bed, Sean watched Emma and said, "All that talk about us as teenagers is making me remember how much of a dick I was to Marco."

"You were?"

He nodded, "Oh yeah. I was being a dickhead teenager, but I was also kind of freaked out when I realized he was gay."

"Why were you freaked out?"

Sean looked down at the sink, "I noticed him watching one time when we were playing basketball, and I called him the f word."

"Really?"

Sean nodded, "Yep. It wasn't like I was actively going after him or targeting him. But I was also an asshole to him when I first started dating Ellie. And it wasn't just because she wanted him around all the time. Thank God I've evolved since then."

Emma caressed his face, and Sean closed his eyes, "Babe, it's okay. You're not that guy anymore."

Sean nodded, "I know." He opened his eyes and said, "I just hate that I was that guy for even two seconds. And I don't want anyone being like that to our son."

"We can't prevent that from happening, Sean. There will always be homophobic people out there."

"I know."

"We just have to do our best to support Drew."

Sean nodded and kissed her, "So are we going to check on them and make sure they're sleeping in separate beds, or are we going to trust them?"

"We're going to trust them."

Sean smiled and said, "Okay. Meet you inside."

"Okay."

Sean had trouble sleeping that night and headed to the shop early before anyone else woke up. He left a note for Emma, and when he got to the shop, he locked himself in his office.

Emma stirred at her usual wake-up time and turned over to see that Sean wasn't there. She sat up and noticed a note on his pillow. It read, "Couldn't sleep, so I went to the shop early to do some stuff. See you later." Emma furrowed her brow and grabbed her phone.

Sean's phone buzzed, and he looked at it. He wasn't going to answer it at first but decided to, after a couple of rings, "Hey."

Emma asked, "Are you okay?"

"Not really."

"Sean..."

"I'll be fine. I just... I don't know." He rubbed his temple but didn't say anything else.

Emma stood up, "Don't make me come over there."

Sean smiled, "You don't have to do that. I promise."

"Well, I am anyway. I'll get the boys off to school, and then I'm coming by."

"Em, don't you have work to do?"

"It can wait. You're more important."

Sean sighed and said, "Fine."

"I'll be there in an hour."

"Okay."

Drew looked around and asked, "Where's dad?"

"He went to work early. He had some paperwork to catch up on and a new project to start."

"Is it a famous person's car?"

Emma said, "I don't know."

Oliver said, "It's so cool that he works on famous people's cars. It's so cool he knows Drake!"

Emma smiled and took a sip of her coffee. She asked Drew, "So, what does your day look like?"

Drew said, "Quiet. Thank goodness."

Oliver said, "Yeah, no tests or quizzes for me until Friday."

Emma smiled and said, "Speaking of Friday, are you excited about the dance?"

Drew joked, "I don't know if excited is the word."

Oliver shook his head.

"What do you mean?"

"We just want to hang out with our friends on a Friday night and not be in someone's house."

Emma nodded, "Ah, I understand that. I'm just happy that you don't want to stay home. I like that you're more social these days."

Drew rolled his eyes.

"Don't roll your eyes at me!"

Oliver laughed and stood up. "I need to finish getting ready for school."

He grabbed his bowl, and Emma said, "I'll take that." She took the bowl and walked it over to the dishwasher. "We'll leave in 10 minutes."

Oliver said, "Okay!" He walked over to the stairs and jogged up them two at a time.

Drew stood up and said, "Is something wrong with dad?"

"No. Why?"

Drew shrugged, "It just seems weird that he left so early."

"As I said, he had a lot of work to do, and sometimes he likes to do it before everyone else shows up. It's difficult getting work done with people interrupting you."

"Uh-huh." Drew walked to the basement door, "If something's wrong, you can tell me."

"I know."

He nodded and walked down the stairs. Emma cleaned up the table and got ready for work.

After dropping the boys at Degrassi, Emma headed to Sean's shop. She walked into the shop and went directly to Sean's office door. She waited a moment before knocking then waited for him to answer.

He opened the door, let her in, and closed it.

"Babe, are you okay?"

He shrugged, "I didn't sleep well last night, so I decided to come here early."

"Did your lack of sleep have anything to do with what we talked about last night?" Sean nodded, and she said, "Sean, you're not that guy anymore. You grew up."

"I know, but I just hate that ever was that guy and that I could have been the type of person who would be an asshole to our son." He sat on the edge of his desk and said, "The thought of someone being like that to Drew makes me so angry. That's why when Mrs. Middleton said what she said, I had such a visceral reaction to it. I said the same thing to Marco, Em."

She walked over and stood in front of him, "Sean, you were a teenage boy who didn't know the ramifications of using that word. Sure, we knew it was negative, but it wasn't like it is now. Do you know how much I threw around the word slut when I was a teenager? I would never say that about anyone now because I know it's wrong, just like you know saying that word is wrong."

He nodded and wiped his face, "I'm sorry. I'm a mess."

"You're not a mess. You are a kind, loving father, and you're just having a bad day."

"I'm going to tell him tonight."

Emma asked, "Are you sure you want to do that?"

Sean nodded, "Yep. It's like you said, it was different back then, but it doesn't make it right, and I should be ashamed for ever thinking that way."

Emma caressed his face, "I love you."

"I love you."

She kissed him and asked, "Are you feeling better now?"

"Yes."

"Because I won't leave unless you're okay."

"Thank you, but I'm okay." Sean smiled and said, "I am glad you came."

Emma smiled and kissed him again. As she pulled away, she said, "If you need me, I will come back."

"I know you will. I'll be fine."

"Okay. I'm heading to that building I was telling you about. I'll send you pictures of it. It's really incredible."

Sean smiled again, "Looking forward to it."

Maddie and Drew were in the media room talking instead of working, "You made out?"

Drew nodded, then asked, "Is it okay that I'm telling you this?"

Maddie nodded, "Yes. It's fine. I don't like you like that anymore."

"Oh, right, you like my dad."

Maddie rolled her eyes, "You're such a jerk."

"I know."

She asked, "So, how was it?"

"I thought it was great, and he said I am a good kisser, so I assuming he thought it was great too."

"Good for you. Seriously." Drew smiled, and she asked, "So that's all you did?"

Drew nodded, "We both aren't ready for more than that, and I'm glad we're taking things slow. Plus, my parents have enough sex for everyone."

"Still?"

"I don't think it's ever going to stop. They didn't see each other for nearly 14 years. That's a lot of sex to catch up on."

Maddie nodded, "That's true."

"I still can't believe you heard them." Maddie blushed, and Drew asked, "How bad was it?"

"I wouldn't say bad."

"Oh God, I don't want to know anymore."

She laughed, and Ethan walked over.

"Greetings! How is everyone's day so far?"

"Greetings?" Maddie rolled her eyes, "What's with you?"

"Nothing. Can't a guy be happy?"

"At school? No."

Drew laughed.

"Whatever." Ethan leaned against the standing desk and asked, "So what's happening? What were you talking about?"

Maddie joked, "We were talking about how much sex Drew's parents are having."

"Maddie!" Drew rolled his eyes.

Ethan laughed, "I guess it's a good thing you're in the basement."

Maddie said, "Oliver isn't."

Ethan wrinkled his nose and said, "Oooh. Yeah, that can't be fun. Are they loud?"

"I heard them one night."

Drew said, "If you don't stop talking about this, I'm leaving."

"Okay, sorry!" Maddie asked, "So what's the plan for Friday night?"

Drew explained everything to Maddie, then she looked at Ethan and asked, "Wait, why did you get detention?"

"Mr. Perino doesn't appreciate my sense of humor."

Drew said, "Mr. Perino doesn't appreciate anyone's sense of humor."

Ethan said, "Good point."

Maddie smiled and said, "This is so exciting. I've never seen a proposal before."

Drew said, "I don't know if we're all seeing it."

"Oh, I am. I will find a way to watch."

Ethan said, "I never knew you were such a romantic, Maddie."

"She isn't. She just likes my dad."

"Drew, I swear to God."

Drew and Ethan laughed while Maddie stewed.

Emma looked out the windows of a unit on the sixteenth floor in 16 Bonnycastle Street and shook her head, "Wow, I cannot believe the view from here."

Dylan asked, "Isn't it great?"

"Yes." She looked west which had an unobstructed view of the entire Toronto skyline, including the CN Tower. "This must be incredible at night."

"Yep. And the views of the water to the south."

Emma nodded, "Amazing." She walked over to the ultra-modern white kitchen and said, "I like the finishes in here a lot."

"They are pretty spectacular." He said, "There's another unit up on 20 that I want to show you, and I think I want to give it to you as a listing."

"Oh yeah?"

Dylan said, "Actually, I wanted to give you the building."

Emma asked, "Are you serious?"

Dylan nodded, "You're my best agent, Emma."

"Wow, I don't know what to say."

"Say yes?"

Emma scrunched her face then asked, "Can I think about it?"

"Sure. I'll give you until Friday. Is that enough time to think it over?"

She nodded, "Perfect. Because I know that taking on a building like this is a lot of work, and I want to discuss it with Sean."

Dylan asked, "Do you think he'll have a problem with it?"

"Not at all. He's very supportive of me and my work just like I am with him and his work."

Dylan smiled, "Okay, let's go to the unit on 20. It faces east and south. Not as good a view as this one, but I'm sure the sunrises are pretty in the morning."

"Lead the way."

Around 12:30, Emma knocked on Sean's office door, and he said, "Yeah?" in an annoyed tone. She opened the door, and he smiled at her with an expression of relief on his face, "Two visits in one day? How did I get so lucky?"

"I come bearing gifts!" She held up two bags with lunch for both of them. "I got us some Chinese. I hope that's okay."

"Of course, it's okay." Sean stood up and smiled, "Come on in and close the door."

"Should I lock it?"

Sean grinned and said, "Well, you are wearing a skirt, and we are in my office."

Emma locked the door, walked over to his desk, placed the bags on the floor, and said, "Where do you want me?"

"Oh God, you're the best."

"I know."

Sean asked, "Don't you have to go back to work?"

"No, actually, I have something to go over with you."

"With me?"

Emma nodded, "But not now." She unzipped his jumpsuit. "Right now, I want to be naughty with you."

"I have no problem with that at all."

"Good."

20 minutes later, Sean and Emma were breathless and holding onto each other. Sean was standing in front of Emma, and she had legs wrapped around him. Her skirt was hiked up around her waist and his pants were on the floor.

"Jesus, that was good."

Emma kissed him and leaned her forehead against his, "It was." She whispered, "Don't pull out yet."

"Why not?"

"Because I like feeling you inside me."

"Oh." He kissed her then smiled, "Okay."

"I'm going to need a shower after this."

Sean chuckled, "So am I."

"Sorry, but not really." She smiled and said, "I'm going to need a shammy or two."

"I know." He opened his desk and grabbed one, "Here."

"Thank you."

After they cleaned themselves up and cleaned up Sean's desk, they sat together and ate their lunch.

Emma asked, "So are you feeling better?"

Sean nodded, "Yes. You helped me a lot this morning so thank you."

"It's because I love you so much."

"I know. I love you too." He kissed her cheek. "By the way, the view from that one condo was incredible."

"Right? Could you imagine looking at that every night when you go to sleep?"

"It would be pretty sweet." Sean asked, "So, what did you want to talk to me about?"

"Dylan wants me to sell the building."

"Whoa, Em, that's..."

"Incredible, yes."

"And a lot of money, right?"

She nodded and sighed, "And a lot of work."

"Are you worried about the boys and me because we will be fine if you have to work late?"

"Who will pick them up from school?"

Sean shrugged, "Maybe they can go to your parents' house, and I can pick them up there?"

Emma nodded, "Maybe."

"Emma, I don't want you to miss out on an opportunity like this. It's life-changing money, right?"

"Yes. Realistically, we wouldn't have to worry about anything for a long time. Drew could go to university with no issues and without having to depend on a scholarship. I could help you get a new shop, and I could renovate mom's salon... "

"Have you been saving up for university?"

Emma nodded, "Yep. We could send Drew to university, get him a car and buy him a house if we wanted to."

Sean smiled, "I'm so proud of you. You did this all on your own, and now you're one of the best real estate agents in Toronto."

She smiled, "I just wanted a job that I could work while Drew was at school. My mom suggested it because a friend of hers went into real estate when her kids were Drew's age."

"And then you ended up being incredible at it." Emma nodded, "Life works in funny ways sometimes."

She nodded again and fed him some broccoli.

He covered his mouth and chuckled, "Thank you."

"You're welcome."

Sean asked, "So for tonight, do you want me to bring something home for dinner?"

Emma shook her head, "You don't have to. I can cook something."

"Are you sure?"

"Yep. I'll have time to make something nice for the boys and us."

Sean smiled, "Okay."

"Oh, by the way, we can't have sex again until Friday."

"Um, why not?"

"I have a doctor's appointment on Thursday, and they say it's better not to have sex 48 hours before a pap smear."

"Ah, I see. Is everything okay?"

Emma nodded, "Yep. Just my yearly exam."

"Sounds fun."

Emma laughed, "Ugh, I hate it, but it's necessary."

Oliver and Drew were by Drew's locker when they heard a commotion.

Drew asked, "What was that?"

Suddenly, they heard two popping sounds, and Oliver said, "That was a gun." Oliver grabbed Drew's hand, and they ran away from the sound of the gun. "Let's get out of here." They ran out toward the back of the school and were able to run out a pair of double doors.

Drew asked, "Where should we go?"

"I don't know but we need to get as far away from the building as possible."

They circled back around and made it to The Dot. When they ran inside, Drew said, "I'm going to text Maddie and Ethan."

Oliver nodded and looked out the windows.

Maddie texted back right away, "We're hiding in Perino's room."

Ethan didn't answer, and Drew got worried. "Maddie's in Perino's room. No answer from Ethan yet."

Oliver said, "The police just showed up."

"Oh God, my grandpa," Drew called Emma.

Emma saw Drew calling her and picked up smiling, "Hey kiddo, shouldn't you be in class?"

"Someone had a gun at school."

Emma panicked, "What? Where are you?"

"Oliver and I ran out of the building. We're at The Dot. I don't know what happened. We just ran."

"Stay there. I have to call your grandma and let her know what's going on. Can you call your dad at the shop, please?"

"Yes."

"I'll be there as soon as I can."

"Okay." Drew ended the call and called Sean.

"Cameron's Custom Cars."

"Dad, it's me."

"Hey! Is everything okay?"

"Someone had a gun at school."

Sean stood up at his desk, "What?"

"As soon as we heard it, Oliver and I bolted. We're at The Dot. Mom's calling grandma because I don't know if grandpa is okay or not."

Sean looked around and said, "Stay there. I'll be there soon."

"Dad, Mom's already on her way."

"I don't care. I'm coming. Sit tight."

"Okay."

Sean ran out of his office.

Emma called Archie's office phone and got no answer. Then she called her mom. "Mom, I need you to listen to me, okay?"

"Em, is everything okay?"

"Someone had a gun at Degrassi."

"What? Is Drew okay?"

"He made it out, but I can't get in touch with Dad."

Christine gasped then said, "I'm sure he's fine. He has to be, right?"

Emma nodded and cried softly, "Yes, he has to be." She wiped her face, "I'm meeting Drew and Oliver at the Dot. They ran out as soon as they heard the gun go off."

"Well, I can't stay here. I am going to go crazy."

"Come to The Dot, okay?"

"I will."

Fifteen minutes later, Emma, Sean, and Christine all showed up at the Dot at the same time.

Emma asked, "Sean? What are you doing here?"

"I had to come here as soon as Drew called me and told me what happened." They walked over to Drew and Oliver. Sean asked, "Are you two okay?"

Both boys nodded.

Emma grabbed Drew and hugged him, "I can't believe it happened again."

Sean looked at Oliver and asked, "Are you sure you're okay?"

"I wonder if my mom will even care when she hears about this."

Sean said, "Come here, kiddo."

Oliver walked over to him, and Sean hugged him.

Christine kept calling Archie and didn't get an answer.

Emma pulled away from Drew and said, "Mom?"

Christine shook her head. "Nothing."

Emma and Sean shared a look.

Drew looked at his phone and said, "Oh thank God."

Emma asked, "Grandpa?"

Drew shook his head, "Ethan ducked into an empty classroom. He didn't see my text until now."

Sean asked, "And what about Maddie?"

"She was in Perino's class. She texted me back right away to let me know."

"Oh good."

Christine tried calling a few more times until she said, "Wait, here he is." Christine answered her phone, "Are you okay?" She clutched her chest, "Oh, thank God. Drew's here with us at The Dot. He ran out of the building with Oliver. Yeah, they're both okay. Just scared, understandably. Okay. We'll be here."

When Christine ended the call, Emma asked, "What the hell happened?"

"No one is hurt. Someone had a gun, and it went off accidentally, so while the intent was there, nothing happened other than damage to the building."

Emma sighed in relief, "Oh, thank God."

Sean said, "I guess metal detectors will be coming back to Degrassi, huh?"

Emma nodded, "Probably."

Sean asked, "I'm assuming the kid will be in trouble."

Emma said, "Well, I should hope so."

"Mom, we ran out of there with none of our things. Just my phone."

"It'll be fine. I'm sure they'll understand." Drew nodded, and Emma hugged him again. "I'm so glad you're safe. I don't know what I would do if something happened to you." Emma started crying and held onto him.

Sean placed his hand on her shoulder and shared a look with Drew.

Drew and Oliver were able to go back into Degrassi and get their stuff from their lockers, then Emma drove them home. Sean went back to close up the shop, and Christine waited for Archie.

"You two had a scary afternoon, so do whatever you want."

Drew asked, "Are you sure?"

"Yeah, play video games or watch a movie. I'll let you know when dinner is ready."

"Thanks, mom."

"You're welcome."

Drew and Oliver walked down into the basement, and Emma began to cry at the kitchen island. While it relieved her that the boys were okay, but the thought of anything happening to Drew terrified her.

When Sean walked into the house a few minutes later, Emma asked, "Why are you here?"

"I couldn't concentrate. I told the guys to close up for me."

"I'm so glad you're here."

Sean hugged her, and she cried again, "Babe, it's okay."

"What if something happened to him, Sean?"

"I know. The thought is terrifying."

"We've had too many close calls lately."

Sean pulled away and cupped her face, "We're all okay, Em."

She nodded, "I know, but I want us to be a family."

He smiled and said, "We are one."

"Officially. I want to be your wife, and I want you to be my husband."

Sean said, "We will be."

Emma hugged him again, and Sean made a decision. He was going to propose to Emma before Friday night.
