Having left Planet Secco, the Blue Typhoon was once again travelling through deep space. Chris was typing on a keypad and Sonic and Cosmo were standing nearby.

"My new program will let us detect a Chaos Emerald anywhere in the galaxy, no matter where or how far away it may be." Chris said and the compartment for a Chaos Emerald opened. "All right, Sonic, what do you say we try it out?"

"Sure thing." Sonic said and handed him a Emerald, and he inserted it into the slot.

"Okay." Chris said and closed the hatch and Tails typed on a keypad.

"Now we connect it to the main interface and we'll be on our way!" Tails said and a holo-radar appeared in the front window." Knuckles, everything okay?" he asked over the intercom.

At the engine room.

"So far, so good." Knuckles said.

"Wow!" Tails said and Knuckles turned around.

"What's up? You got something?" he asked.

At the bridge

"I'm detecting a response already!" Tails said and a blip appeared near the top left of the radar.

"It's thanks to you, Chris." Cosmo said.

He shrugged.

"It's no big deal, really."

"Sure it's a big deal! I've built lots of neat stuff, but I couldn't have come up with something this good overnight." Tails said.

"Aw, come on, Tails, you're embarrassing me." Chris said and rubbed behind his head.

"Amy, what's the location?"

"The signal's coming from a place called Planet Breezy." Amy said and typed on the keyboard.

"That sounds cool. Okay, Planet Breezy, here we come!"

"We're on our way!"

At the operation room Knuckles watched as the Master Emerald glowed brightly.

"Engage Warp Field Driver!" Tails said over the intercom.

Outside a yellow cone at the tip of the Typhoon fired a portal in front of the ship.

"Warp field's ready! Let's go!" Tails said.

The Typhoon few through the portal, causing it to glow in rainbow colors and jump to hyperspace.

On the surface of the ice planet Breezy, there was a palace covered in ice. Within its walls, was a control room. In the center of the control room, the red Chaos Emerald was encased in a machine. A crystal-themed Metarex appropriately named Metarex Crystal watches as the machine supercharges the Chaos Emerald, and laughed.

At the Crimson Egg Cockpit.

"I'm a genius! Sonic and those time-warping nitwits can't shake me, not with my spanking-new all-space tracking system! No matter what they do or where they go, I'll be right behind them." Eggman said laughing. "Throw it into Egg Drive!" he shouted out.

"Aye-aye, Doctor." Bocoe said.

Bokkun pulled a lever, and soon, an egg surrounded the Crimson Egg. The egg split apart and faded, revealing the Crimson Egg was gone.

The Blue Typhoon emerged from hyperspace above Breezy. The blip on the radar was still flashing.

"There it is, guys, straight ahead. But it looks like rough weather. The whole planet's in the middle of a terrible snowstorm." Amy said.

"Maybe the Metarex have taken its Planet Egg away." Cosmo said.

"That would explain the weird weather they're having." Tails said and pulled up a holo-image of the planet's surface.

A blizzard was blowing across the surface of the entire planet.

"Everything looks so cold and lonely..."

"Even so, we have to go down there and look for the Emerald. Ready, Sonic?" Chris said.

"Sure. Let's go!" Sonic said.

The Blue Typhoon descended into Breezy's atmosphere, and the craft extended its landing wings. They started to feel the turbulent winds caused by the global blizzard.

Suddenly a giant Metarex landed on top of the Blue Typhoon sporting a giant spiked ball for a tail causing the ship to shake more than it already is.

"What is that thing, Chris?" Amy asked.

"It's a Metarex." Chris said.

Gigatail bashed the Typhoon with its tail.

Chris pressed a button that launches several missiles at Gigatail, who launched some missiles back. Even though Gigatail was destroyed by the missiles, the Typhoon was also damaged and started to go down. Red emergency lights flashed.

"Hang on, guys! I'm gonna have to bring it in for a landing!" Tails said and the Blue Typhoon made an emergency landing on the snowy surface of Breezy. "Knuckles, do we have any damage?"

In the Operations room.

"I'm afraid so. Looks like Engines 1 and 3 have been hit. We'll have to fix 'em or we'll never get off the ground." Knuckles said.

Back at the Bridge.

"Oh, great..." Tails said.

"My tracking system indicates Sonic's somewhere on this planet. ... Which means those nasty creatures will be coming soon to try to destroy him." Eggman said while the Crimson Egg landed on Breezy.

"The Metarex?" Decoe said.

"And it's very likely we'll come under attack too, unless we play a subtle game of subterfuge." Eggman said and stood up.

"We're gonna play a game! We're gonna play a game!" Decoe Bocoe said and gave each other a high-five.

"Go on; get busy!" Eggman said and tossed shovels to them.

"What game do you play with these?" Bocoe asked.

"There's no game! Go out and make sure the ship won't be seen!" he said and Decoe and Bocoe looked at each other. "Now get moving!"

Below the deck Rouge was using an earpiece to listen to Eggman's conversation. Meanwhile, a depressed Bokkun was hovering down the corridor.

"I want this thing in an igloo by nightfall!" Eggman said over the radio.

"Yes, Doctor..." Decoe and Bocoe said over the radio.

"Well, at least Rouge isn't here." Bokkun said.

"Really?" someone said and laughed.

"This isn't my day..."

"If I didn't know better, I might think you're not happy to see me." Rouge said flying down from her perch.

"Oh no, Rouge! Don't think that!" Bokkun said panicking.

"Oh, I'm glad. Because I've got another tiny little favor I'd like you to do for me." she said and pulled the locket from her chest. "You will help me, won't you?"

On the Blue Typhoon the gangplank extended, and Sonic, Knuckles, and Cosmo were instantly hit with the frigid winds. A door opened, and Chris appeared, wearing a winter coat and carrying winter gear.

"Let's get this snow on the road!" Sonic said and gave Cosmo a wink and thumbs-up to before taking off.

Then Chris appeared in the entryway.

"It might be-" he started but Sonic was nearly buried in the deep snow. "...deep. Don't worry. I packed some new snowshoes."

Sonic pulled a pair of snowshoes from his bag and uncovered his eyes from the deep snow.

"Got any earmuffs?"

Soon, Sonic, Chris, Knuckles, and Cosmo were wearing their snowshoes. They were looking at one of the planet's trees, that was completely frozen over. Cosmo leaned toward the tree.

"What are you doing?" Knuckles asked.

"I'm trying to listen." Cosmo said.

"Tryin' to listen to what?" Sonic asked.

"If this tree is still alive, I will hear its life force." she said and closed her eyes and concentrated on listening to the tree. "I knew we were too late..."

"Don't worry, Cosmo. Maybe it'll come to life again next spring." Chris said.

Cosmo shook her head before opening her eyes.

"There won't be a spring." she said and another gust of wind blew by.

"If the Metarex had already taken the Planet Egg away, there'd be no reason for 'em to still be hangin' around. Maybe it's because the Egg's still here someplace." Sonic said.

"If that's true, we have to try and find it."

"We don't have time." Knuckles said.

"If we find it, this planet might have a chance to survive. I know we came here for a Chaos Emerald, but couldn't we look for a Planet Egg too?"

"No way."

"What do you think, Sonic?" Chris asked.

"The Blue Typhoon's damaged." Sonic said.

"Maybe we can use the X-Tornado. If we look for the Egg, we might find the Emerald." he said and shrugged.

"Then I say we do it!"

Sonic and Chris beamed.

"Thank you both! This planet will be so grateful to you!" Cosmo said.

"Oh all right! Let's go!" Knuckles said.

On the Blue Typhoon Hangar the X-Tornado was being prepared for launch. An elevator moved it up to the runway, and the catapult set it in place.

Then it took off with Chris and Cosmo inside, while Sonic and Knuckles rode on the wings. However, a spy drone was watching them.

At the ice palace Metarex Crystal watched the feed his drone was providing. Several Metarex Troopers stood ready for action.

"Our enemies have arrived." Crystal said.

At an igloo Decoe and Bocoe poured themselves some rice wine and drank it. Eggman guzzled down a whole bottle. By the time the rice cakes finished grilling, they were passed out.

"Rouge really did it this time. Hot chocolate with sleeping powder." Bokkun said.

Rouge flew over the hut.

"I knocked those three out but good. While they're sleeping, I'll be on the lookout for that Chaos Emerald." she said and started to be buffeted by the strong winds. "Ugh, unless I go snowblind..."

Outside the ice palace the X-Tornado approached the ice palace.

"There they are." Knuckles said.

"We're ready for 'em!" Sonic said.

Hovering directly in front of them were several dozen Metarex Troopers.

"Let's go!" Chris said.

The X-Tornado launched a Power Ring and Sonic leapt up and caught it.

"Got it!" he said and used his ring energy to barrel through the Metarex Troopers.

Knuckles also leapt off the wing a punched several troopers. Then the X-Tornado attacked with an array of lasers and missiles, destroying even more Troopers. Knuckles and Sonic landed back on the wing.

"Don't let 'em get away, Chris!" Sonic said.

"I won't." Chris said.

The remaining Troopers fell back. Suddenly there were multiple huge explosions behind them.

"I think we're in big trouble!" he said.

A massive avalanche was speeding right toward the X-Tornado.

"Oh no!"

Suddenly the Blue Typhoon moved in front of the avalanche and embedded itself in the ground, absorbing it and Tails, Amy, and Cream were in the cockpit. Then the snow slid off the ship.

"Back to the repair shop..."

"Hey, look." Amy said and saw the ice palace. "Wow."

"It's unbelievable." Cream said.

"Cha-chao!" Cheese said.

Meanwhile, Sonic and Knuckles leapt off the X-Tornado. However, Sonic slipped and fell on the ice and Knuckles slid to a stop next to him. Then they looked up to see hundreds of new Troopers moving out of the ice palace toward them.

"Sonic! Use this!" Chris said.

The X-Tornado launched a hover board down to Sonic, and he leapt onto it and sped through the army of Troopers.

"Wouldn't happen to have one of those things for me, would ya?" Knuckles asked.

"Sorry, Knuckles, I only had time to make one!" Chris said.

"Yeah, well that's-" he said and stood up, but slipped again.

Sonic barreled through more Troopers as the X-Tornado lowered its altitude so Knuckles could climb back on.

"I don't get any respect. Nor respect at all!" Knuckles said and looked down at the growing pile of destroyed Troopers.

'OK, that's a lie. I get it from Sonic, Tails, Sonia and Manic. Sonic is just a little busy right now.' he thought.

On the Blue Typhoon bridge.

"According to the scanner, the Chaos Emerald's in the center of that ice palace." Tails said over the radio.

"Roger, but first things first. Hang on, Knuckles!" Chris said.

Then the X-Tornado sped through a chasm sideways. Cosmo closed her eyes, not bearing to look. Meanwhile, Sonic sped through ramps, surrounded by Troopers.

Then he leapt his board off a ramp. As Troopers fired missiles at him, Sonic leapt off his board, home-attacked them, and landed expertly back on his board. Meanwhile, several more Troopers flew in front of the X-Tornado as it flew through the chasm.

Then he grabbed one and swung it by the tail, destroying all the others, before throwing it against the chasm wall.

"How will we ever defeat them all when there are so many of them?" Cosmo said.

"Good question."

Meanwhile, Rouge was flying directly above the ice palace.

"My, my, my. All that sparklin' ice makes that place look like a 24-carat castle." she said and a Trooper snuck up behind her. "Get lost!" she said and Screw Kicked the trooper to pieces.

Meanwhile, Sonic and Chris met up and flew toward the ice palace.

On the ice palace Crystal, had been monitoring their progress, turned to the Emerald before walking inside the ice concealing it.

Sonic and the X-Tornado soon reached a spiral ramp. Sonic spun his board and got rid of some of the Troopers that appeared while the X-Tornado blasted the others. Chris fired some missiles that destroyed part of a tower on the ice palace. Sonic flew through the hole and landed in the control room.

Once they got inside, Sonic saw the Chaos Emerald.

"Well, there it is..." he said while Knuckles punched a new hole in the wall, allowing him, Cosmo, and Chris to enter as well.

"Sonic, can you get it out of there?" Chris asked.

"I'll try."

Rouge looked down through the hole in the ceiling while Knuckles dons his shovel claws.

"Leave this to me!" he said and tried to attack the ice, but bounced backward instead. "That ice is harder than a diamond!"

"Of course it is. If it were not, we would be at the mercy of thieves like you." someone said.

"Come out where we can see you!"

"Very well. Keep your eyes on the Emerald."

The Chaos Emerald started to glow, and Crystal faded into existence inside the ice case.

"You don't scare me!" Knuckles said and tried to attack the ice again, but still nothing happened.

Not even Sonic's spin attack worked on the ice.

"If my spin isn't working then I doubt my guitar will work." he said.

"Now I will destroy you!" Crystal said then picked up the Emerald and used its power to melt the room.

"It's getting power from the Emerald!" Chris said and they fled just as Crystal and the Chaos Emerald vanished. "Run!"

The ice ceiling collapsed and fell where they just were. Rouge flew out of the way so that her cover wasn't blown.

"Rats." she said.

That part of the ice palace collapsed. Crystal showed up again and pounded the ground with his hand, creating a giant crack. Chris and Cosmo nearly fell in, but Knuckles caught Cosmo, and Sonic caught Chris.

The Blue Typhoon descended.

"Hang in there, guys!" Tails said over the loud speaker but Crystal breathed icy breath, encasing the entire Typhoon in ice.

On the bridge.

"Our cannon's frozen solid." Amy said.

Meanwhile the X-Tornado's missiles do no damage to Crystal.

"The rockets didn't faze him." Chris said.

Sonic rode his board up the now-giant Crystal's body fighting his Chaos hurt as Chris launched two Power Rings to him.

"Heads up, Sonic!" he said and spun toward Sonic, but Crystal extended an ice spike out of his left hand toward him.

Sonic drilled through the spike, but landed in Crystal's hand that grabbed him.

"We've got to do something to save him!" Cosmo said and pressed a button that fired a beam, then immediately regretted it. "I'm sorry, Chris! I've just hit the laser beam!"

The beam cut Crystal's hand off, and Sonic leapt back onto the X-Tornado and winced.

"Great job, Cosmo. You're a real lifesaver! The laser beam sliced right through the ice." Chris said. "Knuckles, we're heading for the engine room." he said.

Everyone was back on the Blue Typhoon.

"We're almost ready, Chris. You see, all we have to do is get Knuckles to power up the laser cannon and we'll be good to go." Tails said.

"Let's do it!" Knuckles said over the radio.

A pair of large laser blasters extend out of the top of the Typhoon.

In the Master Emerald room.

"The seven Chaos Emeralds are the servers. Our hearts intensify their power."

On the bridge a monitor showed the charge level of the Master Emerald.

"60... 70... 80... 90..." Chris said and the laser cannons crackled with raw energy. "Energy charging sequence complete!"

"Fire!" Tails said and the laser cannons fired.

"Your weapons are of no use against me!" Crystal said.

Then he extended an ice spike out of his remaining hand to block the giant beam, but not only was the spike melted, but so was his hand, arm and entire body. Metarex Spike was beaten and relinquished the Planet Egg, which sunk into the planet. Cosmo smiled. Soon, everyone was outside the craft.

"I found it!" Knuckles said bending over the red Chaos Emerald.

Just as he is about to pick it up, Rouge snatches it, leaving behind three "Thank You" cards like the one she left at the National Museum on Earth.

"Thanks for doin' the dirty work! I owe you one, Knuckie." Rouge said.

"You bring that back here!" he said.

"Gah! She just stole the Chaos Emerald!" Amy said

"Thanks very much for the update!" he said sarcastically.

"Hey, Knuckles." Sonic said. "Take a look at this."

Right near Cosmo were brand new plants growing in the ground.

"The grass - it's growing!" she said.

"Spring came after all. And before you know it, this place will be just as green and beautiful as it was before." Chris said.

"Sure! Happy, Cosmo?" Sonic asked.

"Yes!" she said nodding.

On the Crimson Egg fockpit.

"How dare you let them get away! I ought to dismantle you snoozing losers!" Eggman said.

"Don't blame us, Doctor! You were snoozing too!" Decoe said.

"We all fell asleep after Bokkun brought us hot chocolate. That's interesting." Bocoe said.

"Whaah! It wasn't me who put sleeping powder in your cocoa!" Bokkun said.

"Whaaat?" they said together.

"Aahh, I meant marshmallows!" Bokkun said waving his hands. "I'm not a very good traitor..." he said to himself.

Eggman, Decoe, and Bocoe were left puzzled.

Below deck Rouge was bathing in a tub examining her skin.

"That nasty snowglobe was so windy and wintry, even my gloves've got goose pimples. Oh well." she said then giggled and pulled out the Emerald she stole. "Now I've got this hot little baby to keep me warm. Positively perfect. Just get a load of that shine!" she said then the Emerald suddenly stopped glowing. "Wait a minute...This is a..."

At the Blue Typhoon bridge.

"...fake! After I took a good look at the response data, I noticed something I hadn't seen the first time. The components of the Emerald was off so slightly even the scanners didn't pick it up." Tails said.

"I've reprogrammed them, Tails. Next time they'll only respond to real Emeralds. What I can't figure out was what that Metarex was doing with a fake Emerald." Chris said.

"Maybe the fake Emerald was a decoy the Metarex used to throw us off the track."

Knuckles grinned.

"Wait'll Rouge finds out she filched a phony!" he said and laughing.

Back on the Crimson Egg below deck.

"They think they can fool me do they? We'll see about that!" Rouge said and crushed the fake Chaos Emerald in her hand. "I'll make them pay for this! I promise, I'll make them pay!" she shouted out.

The Crimson Egg flew away.
