After the dishes were dried and the leftovers were put away, Steve and Madison sat together on her couch to watch a movie. It felt strangely domestic for a second date, but she seemed so at ease with the idea, Steve realized it must have been the new normal. Madison didn't need him to take her out to upscale restaurants and buy her expensive jewelry. She just wanted to spend time with him and get to know him.
That was how Brooklyn felt.
Steve didn't realize when Brooklyn Hayes became his moral compass. For much of their relationship, he'd looked back on Peggy Carter and wondered what she'd say about them and if she'd approve of their relations. Peggy had been the shadow in Steve's corner that Brooklyn felt like she couldn't live up to, and now Brooklyn, the mother of his daughter, was another shadow in his corner, too.
Madison didn't seem to realize she had such big shoes to fill, which put Steve at ease. Perhaps she wasn't ready for something serious either, and that was okay. It was nice to have company with feet on the ground instead of their head in the clouds like the Avengers.
She sighed a little and shifted, not necessarily closer to Steve, but enough for him to take notice. Madison was putting the ball in Steve's court, and he decided to throw caution to the wind and see what happened if he put his arm around her. The movement was enough for Madison, and she scooted closer to lay her head against Steve's shoulder, "Is this okay? Not too fast right? I know you said on our first date you hadn't been with anyone since Denver's mom."
"This is fine." Steve said quietly, feeling his heart began to race. It was the truth. It was nice. She was soft and cuddly, and Steve was so content he could fall asleep on this couch. He curled his fingers around her arm to hold her closer, leaning his head to rest his jaw on her temple, "Thank you for going slow with me. It's been hard. I feel like a widower, but I've never been married. I'm a single dad, an Avenger… I thought being in love was simple and good, and when it was over, I felt like I'd been abandoned in a war zone."
Madison leaned away enough to look up at Steve, and he smiled weakly at her, thinking he'd blown it by being too honest. He should know better by now than to let anyone really know him, because then they'd run for the hills. Steve was too much. He had too much responsibility, and he had a duty to a higher purpose, and whoever he dated was never going to be as important as his daughter and the world he'd sworn to protect.
"I get it." Madison told him quietly, and he must have looked surprised because she laughed, but there was no humor in her voice, "I'll take whatever you're willing to give me, in your time. You're very sweet, Steve, and I know you've seen things I can hardly comprehend. I'll be patient for you."
Steve began to lean forward, his body wanting to kiss her before his mind could register it, and he carefully slid his hand along her cheek to cradle the back of her neck beneath her long braid. As his lips reached for hers, he remembered his last kiss like a flash of lighting in his memory.
"Shh, you're gonna be okay. I promise."
"I love you, Steve. I'm sorry… I'm so sorry…"
"I forgive you. Just hold on for me."
He jerked away and scrambled to his feet so fast that Madison blinked slowly as she registered his absence. Steve's chest heaved as his mind replayed Brooklyn falling from the helicarrier into the Potomac. He saw himself reaching for her, but he wasn't able to catch her, and she wasn't able to hold on. And she died.
"I'm sorry. Madison, I'm so sorry." Steve muttered, then felt his chest drop when he realized he was parroting Brooklyn's last words to him. "I thought I could do this, but I can't. I'm sorry, I just can't. I'm not ready."
Madison just nodded and stood with a heavy sigh, "I told you, I'm willing to be patient. I'm disappointed, but I understand. If you call, I'll be happy to see you again. If not, I understand."
Steve nodded and showed himself out, realizing he would have felt so much better if she'd screamed and cried and kicked him out, but Madison was kind and understanding, and didn't deserve to be Steve's rebound from the love of his life.
When Steve arrived back at Avengers Tower, he was greeted by his daughter in a princess dress with little fairy wings slung around her shoulders, "Daddy! Daddy Auntie Nat and I played princess! And Cupcake was the prince!"
"That's great, Sweetie!" Steve exclaimed weakly with as much excitement as he could muster, "Did you have fun?"
"So much fun! You can leave, we want to play s'more!"
"I didn't expect you back so early. I would have put her to bed already." Natasha teased as she placed her hands on her hips, looking out of place in the frilly pink Halloween gown she was wearing.
Steve chuckled, "What are you wearing?"
"Every princess needs a lady in waiting." Natasha answered proudly and Denver yelled in response, "She's my Queen of the Guards!"
"See, that sounds more like Natasha." Steve scooped up Denver and turned to his friend, "Thanks for watching her. I really appreciate it."
"It was nothing. Maybe we could hang out more, and you can give Dallas some space." She tilted her head slightly and gave Steve a smirk as she waited for his reaction, "It's not like she's the only one who can watch Denny."
"I know." Steve answered, shoving his hands in his pockets, "You heard about what happened earlier?"
"I heard you texted her to babysit with little notice and then forgot she wasn't Brooklyn."
He winced at that, clenching his teeth as he held Denver against his chest, "Denny loves her Aunt Dallas."
"Yeah, but Aunt Dallas has a life too. She's not your nanny, Rogers." Natasha argued, reaching out to stroke Denver's hair as her eyelids began to droop. "Stark asked for you to go see him when you got back. You know him, he doesn't really sleep, so you can wait a while before you go. If you want though, I can put her to bed."
Steve looked down at Denver, feeling her breathing grow heavier as she slept against his strong chest, "Would you sit with her a while? I know JARVIS watches her, but I still hate having her alone in the bedroom for long."
Natasha carefully pried Denver from Steve's arms as she whispered, "Of course. I don't mind at all."
While Natasha put Denver to bed, Steve climbed the stairs to the upper-level lab where Tony and Bruce were still hard at work milling over the discarded SHIELD property.
"Hey, Cap. Didn't think you'd be back this early!" Bruce called, the humor in his voice apparent as he glanced over at Tony.
The billionaire looked up with an exasperated expression at Steve, "You were supposed to get laid tonight."
"I almost kissed her. That's a step in the right direction." Steve said simply, then turned to the boxes, "Nat said you wanted to see me."
"Just wanted to give you an update on the SHIELD tech we couldn't identify." Tony said as he grabbed a large box and dropped it on the table in front of Steve, "Between you and Romanoff, almost everything has been categorized and Bruce was able to store it properly, but there's a few things that neither of you knew about. What do you want us to do with 'em, Captain?"
Steve picked up a small black clicker and studied it for a moment, then dropped it back in the box, seeing nothing but some knick-knacks and ammo for an unknown weapon, "Box it up as is and throw away the key. We don't need anything from Hydra."
Tony and Bruce shared a glance before Tony hummed, "Alright. You're the boss." He plucked the clicker from the box and studied it for a moment, "I'm gonna have JARVIS run some tests on this stuff, then it gets locked away."
"Whatever you want, Tony." Steve grumbled as he looked over his shoulder, "Was there anything else you needed?"
"No. Just wanted you to give this one last once over before we start playing." Tony said with a devilish grin and Steve rolled his eyes and turned to leave without another word.
With Steve gone, Tony sat the device down on his examination table as Bruce settled onto a stool behind him, "You sure about this, Tony? We don't know what that thing does?"
"There's only one way to find out." Tony answered as he pulled his hands apart, bringing up a holographic version of the small clicker, "What are we looking at, J?"
"It appears to be a remote control, Sir. To what, I'm unsure, but it has sensors connected to a receiver. Shall I see if I can connect it?"
"Please do, JARVIS."
Bruce slid off his stool and stumbled over to Tony, looking at the device in terror, "Tony, you don't know what that things connected to, it could be a bomb-"
"I have located an active receiver. It does not appear to be an explosive, however, there isn't enough data to discern what the remote is connected to." Suddenly, a small yellow bar appeared across the front of the clicker, and JARVIS added, "I have turned it on, and it seems to be at full capacity, however, I suggest you don't try to play with it, Sir. I cannot identify what it does."
Tony looked to Bruce hopefully and Banner just shook his head, "No, Tony, even JARVIS thinks this is a bad idea."
"Doing it anyway." Tony said as he looked up at the hologram, "JARVIS, be a peach and give that clicker a tap."
Meanwhile, at the STK Steakhouse a few blocks away, Dallas was all dolled up in button down dress that hugged her tits so tightly Adam could hardly keep his eyes on her face. He'd offered to take the fringed shawl that she wore around her shoulders in the brisk February air, but she'd politely declined, deciding she'd rather sit by the chilly window and watch the people go by in the city lights.
"You look stunning Dallas." Adam told her breathlessly as their waiter poured them each a glass of wine. "I'll be honest, I'm glad you got out of babysitting."
"That makes two of us." She answered as she raised her glass to clink against his. She leaned her cheek against her knuckles and studied her boyfriend, "You're pretty great, you know that?"
"Yeah?" He asked as he perused the menu, "Why?"
She thought about it for a moment before deciding on, "You're just so real. You're down to Earth, and you're kind, and I have fun with you. It doesn't have to be a big dramatic thing; we can just have fun together."
Adam looked up as the waiter approached and looked to Dallas, seeing if she was ready to order. When she nodded, he started rattling off what he wanted while Dallas watched him, thankful she'd finally gotten past her feelings for Steve. It was nice to have a normal relationship with a nice guy. Brooklyn would have been jealous of her normalcy.
By the time their dinner arrived, Dallas was starting to think maybe Adam might just stick around for a while. She'd been guarded the first few weeks they were dating, never quite going all the way, but he was a good guy. She was starting to consider telling him the truth about Denver's parentage, her sister's career and moral choices, and that Dallas spent much of her time with the world-famous Avengers. She knew she'd have to be honest with somebody eventually, and maybe Adam could be that guy.
"So," Adam reached across the table and took Dallas's hand, "I haven't really wanted to ask, because you don't seem to want to talk about it, but… what happened with your sister? Why are you always getting called to watch your niece?"
Maybe now is good as time as any to tell him the truth.
"Well," Dallas started as she chewed through a piece of steak, "my sister worked for SHIELD. You know, the global security organization?"
"The one that was taken down by Captain America for being infiltrated by Nazis?" Adam asked and Dallas nodded, causing him to suck in a sharp breath, "Was she there? When it happened?"
"She was in one of the helicarriers." Dallas said quietly, squinting her eyes as she started to feel warm. She fanned herself, looking out the window, "Is it hot in here, or is it just me?"
She pulled off her shawl and draped it over the back of her chair before looking at Adam. He smiled at her weakly and ducked his head, saying, "I'm sorry. We don't have to talk about it."
Dallas shifted her legs, unable to get comfortable as she took another sip of her wine, "No, it's okay. It's fine, it's just… it's really hot in here." Dallas murmured while she unbuttoned another two buttons on her dress, causing more of her cleavage to show and Adam's eyes to widen, "How has work been? You've been working on that new security program, right?"
"Yeah- yeah it's been going. Boss has been up my ass about getting it done, so I've been putting in long hours and…"
I want you up my ass.
Dallas blinked slowly as she nodded, squirming in her seat as sweat dripped from her brow, "Uh huh. Yeah, I've missed you." Dallas whined pathetically, tapping her foot against the floor, "So it's going well? Hmm?"
"Yeah, it's going great! Almost finished-"
The image of Adam hoisting her up on her kitchen table and licking her pussy until she finished overtook her mind and she clenched her teeth as she let out a guttural groan, "Adam," she growled huskily as she slammed her palms on the table, "I need you, now."
He looked from her to the people around them, seeing everyone staring, "Need me to what?"
"To, uh uh… ugh, I need you to- I need you to fuck me until I cu- ugh!" She cried out and clenched the corner of the table, grinding her core against her chair as she panted, "I need you to take me home."
"Uh, yeah, check please!" Adam yelled and their waiter quickly handed it off so the couple could leave. Adam scrambled to pull out a wad of cash as Dallas threw her head back and let out a wanton moan. "Here, thank you!" Adam thrust the money at the waiter and pulled Dallas to her feet to tug her back to his car, "What the hell has gotten into you?"
"You. Oh, please, I need you inside of me. I need you now." Dallas cried as she grabbed Adam's shoulders and ground her core against him, causing another low moan to erupt from her throat, "I'm so horny right now, I can't even- I can't- I-"
"I'm taking you home." Adam said sternly, pulling open the door to his car for Dallas to climb into, and by the time he got in the driver's seat, she had her dress hiked and her own hand up her panties to try and get some release, "What the actual fuck is going on here?"
"I don't know, but I need you to take me home. Please, I need you."
"Oh, I'll take you home alright, but I'm not sticking around." At that, Dallas pulled her hand out and glared at him as he sighed, "I really like you, Dallas, but this is fucking weird. What's wrong with you?"
Her eyes widened as she felt her core tightening, as if she could orgasm just by existing, she was so wired, "I don't know. You gotta believe me… I just, I can't… control it…" She sucked in a sharp breath and her whole body shuddered as her hips thrust on their own, "Please, Adam, I need help."
"You need a psychiatrist, not a boyfriend." Adam snapped as he started driving, "I'm taking you home."
Something between angry and devastation rocked Dallas as her chest rose and fell wildly, but she knew she needed help. Something was wrong with her, and she needed her family. "Take me to Avengers Tower." She panted, barely above a whisper before letting out a lewd scream.
"What? Are you out of your fucking mind?" Adam yelled, but whipped the car around at the next light anyway, "Are you going to fuck your niece's father now?"
Dallas swallowed, feeling the tension building so quickly she could barely stand it. She wanted to die, "If that's what it takes to get some fucking relief, then yes!" She screamed back as he flew down the street towards the tower. He skidded to a stop in front of the main entrance and Dallas grabbed Adam's arm, "Adam… please… I want it to be you."
"I can't deal with this. I'm sorry." His voice was laced with true sadness as Dallas threw the door open, practically snapping when she moved her legs again.
Inside the tower, Tony was still playing with his clicker, trying to deduce what it did while Bruce had turned to studying some of the other SHIELD weapons they'd inherited, "You've been tinkering with that thing for a half hour, Stark. It's just a clicker."
"No, the bar has gone down, it only has about a fourth of power left. It's been doing something." Tony mumbled to himself as Natasha looked over his shoulder, "You sure you don't know what this thing is?"
"Not a clue. Never seen it before. But Banner's right, stop playing with it."
Bucky and Steve sat to the side to have a private conversation about their failed dates.
"I went in to kiss her, Buck, and I saw Brooklyn. I screwed up. And the worst part? She was fine with it, she understood, and I feel terrible." Steve mumbled into his fist as Bucky sat beside him, watching him curiously, "I don't wanna move on. I want her back."
Bucky pat Steve on the back and sighed, "You know you can't. It doesn't work that way."
"Doesn't mean I can't want it." Steve said quietly as he clasped his hands together, looking up at the other Avengers messing with the clicker.
"Be advised, Miss Wells is on her way up. She seems to be running a fever and her heart rate is skyrocketing."
Steve and Bucky leapt to their feet as Tony's brows drew together curiously. "Really?"
"JARVIS?" Dallas moaned as she pressed her body against the side of the elevator, feeling relief from the cool metal beneath the thin fabric of her dress.
"Yes, Miss Wells?"
"Has anyone ever told you how sexy your voice is?" She moaned as she thrust her hips against the side, "What's happening to me?"
"I've alerted the Avengers to your presence."
When the doors slid open, Steve was right there to greet Dallas and she thrust herself at him, grabbing his shoulders and shoving her lips to his to kiss him greedily as she ground her pelvis against him.
It took him a moment too long to shove her away and look down at her in horror, "Dallas? What's wrong with you?"
"I don't know, I don't know, but please help me… please…" She panted, running her hands over Steve's face as she rubbed her leg against his thigh, "Steve, please, I- I-"
Tony looked at Dallas, then down to the clicker in his hand before tapping it rapidly, causing an erotic moan from the woman and she shoved her tongue down Steve's throat before he could stop her. Natasha and Bruce looked to Tony at the same time until Nat grabbed the clicker. Tony chuckled, "So that's what it does."
"It's sex pollen." Natasha said as she thrust the clicker at Stark, "And you pumped her full of it."
"I didn't know!"
"How can we fix it?" Bucky said as he watched his best friend try to pull away from the woman, but she'd latched her fingers into his blonde hair to stay close. She was so desperate to stay clung to Steve, he'd have to break her arm is he wanted to get away. "What does she need?"
Natasha quickly ran to Steve and Dallas, carefully prying the woman off of him and earning a full kiss on the lips from the doctor before getting a word in, "Okay… okay, Dee- Dallas, listen to me. Stark infected you with sex pollen."
"That makes sense, does he wanna fuck it out of me?" Dallas yelled over Nat's shoulder at the billionaire, practically salivating, "I'm so… so aroused…"
"This is what happened to Steve." Natasha said quietly and Dallas froze, gripping Nat's arms as she realized what needed to happen, "This is how your sister got pregnant. There's only one way to flush it out."
Dallas's whole body shook as she remembered seeing Brooklyn absolutely wrecked after going seventeen rounds with Steve Rogers. He'd felt terrible. She was gonna make him pay Brooklyn back through her.
She stumbled away from Natasha back into Steve's arms, trying to grab him as he held her at arm's length, "I need you to help me." She moaned desperately, digging her nails into Steve's forearms as he gazed at her sadly, "I know you don't feel that way about me, but I'm the closest you'll ever get to having Brooklyn back. Look at me and tell me you don't see her." His lip quivered, but he didn't deny her claim, so Dallas pushed forward so her lips were inches from his, "We can pretend I'm her, and you can have her back. Just for tonight… I won't mind… imagine having her in your arms once more while you pound yourself into her-"
As Dallas leaned up to kiss Steve, Bucky grabbed her roughly and hoisted her over his shoulder to carry her towards the stairwell away from the group. Steve stared after them in disbelief, unable to speak. He'd been moments away from agreeing. Bucky had saved him from himself.
The Avengers stood in stunned silence. "I was about five seconds from jumping on that grenade." Natasha said airily, shooting Steve a pointed stare as he reached up to touch his swollen lips, "Although, it seems you were too, Rogers."
