A.N. — And here is the husband to yesterday's wife, though this one's all about thoughts churned up by his daughter's suddenly smaller teeth. Also, I do have one fairly faithful reviewer, but I always appreciate hearing what worked and what didn't from others.

63. Dr. Granger (Hermione Granger's father)

Hermione's father had dreamed one day of being the one to correct his daughter's protuberant front teeth. But then she came home from Hogwarts one year, and the problem had disappeared.

It quietly hurt, that Hermione had turned to magic before him, that a piece of wood made his years at university irrelevant. He was a dentist; Dr. Granger was never under any illusion that his daughter thought him "cool." He'd settle for just being a part of Hermione's life now. Misgivings were tucked away, a smile maintained; there was time to mourn his daughter's drifting away come September 1.
