Anakin and Arthur Story
Chapter 65: The Mother of Dragons
The orange flames engulfed the homes of the villagers and castle towers as the townspeople scrambled for safety screaming in fear as knights helped them to safety as well as trying to fight back. Prince Arthur led the knights to their positions and took a group to the castle's courtyard hoping to gain a advantage from this enemy
However, this enemy was not fighting on the ground…..
The skies were black and the only light was orange from the flames which were burning the once glorious city of Camelot.
Arthur whips his head around just as there was another loud roar as they all saw the enemy coming towards them, neither of them could believe their eyes….
Their enemy was a large, angry, terrifying dragon! "Shields!" Arthur cries as he and the knights raised their shields over their heads just as the dragon flew towards them breathing fire down at them
Whilst inside, Uther could only watch his city burning with Arthur outside struggling to fight back.
Their eyes suddenly snapped opened as Anakin heard the sudden and fast rapid knocks on his door. "Anakin!" He heard Morgana's panicked voice through the door as he gets out of bed and moves over towards the door. He had just opened the door when Morgana flung herself into his arms. "Oh Anakin!" She cries as Anakin knew immediately why she was here
"You dreamed about a dragon attacking Camelot too?" He asks as Morgana tearfully looked up at him. "We have to warn Uther and Arthur!" She cries "This isn't just a dream, this felt too real" she cries as Anakin nods "I had never seen Camelot in flames" he says well except fo when Odin had attacked and kidnapped he and Arthur all those years ago. Anakin places both his hands on her arms. "We have to wake Robb, Ned and Obi Wan and send a message to Camelot" he says however it was right at that moment they heard Robb's voice
"Morgana!" He calls out. His voice sounded worried and there was a sense of urgency in his voice. "In here!" Anakin calls back as they hear the footsteps increasing before they saw Robb enter the room. "Morgana, there you are!" He exclaims as Morgana grabs hold of his arm, still holding Anakin's in her other hand. "Robb!" She cries "We need to send a message to Uther, something terrible is going to happen!" She exclaims.
It was then Anakin noticed Robb's face. There was sadness all over it. "Robb?" He asks as Robb swallows the lump in his throat. "I do not how to tell you this but….." His voice becomes shaky as they see the tears in his eyes before he went on "We just had a message from Camelot" he says feeling Morgana squeezing his hand even harder.
"Camelot's under attack from a dragon" he reveals. Morgana gasps wrapping her arms around her husband as Anakin felt his legs give way into the chair behind him - this was the first vision in which they both felt powerless.
The dragon's roar echoed throughout the kingdom once more as Arthur and the knights lowered their shields. "Fall back!" Arthur cries as they all scrambled for cover as the dragon breathed fire down on the courtyard once more as the knights scrambled for shelter. Arthur really wished his brother was here to help because he would know what to do and for the first time since Anakin and Morgana had left, he really felt lost. This was the first time by himself he had taken leadership of the knights by himself and while he was keeping the villagers safe and the knights alive, he still felt like he wasn't ready.
The dragon roared in the skies once more as Arthur decided they needed to get to the high levels. Merlin hurries to follow him and the knights up to the higher levels. "I know you're tired!" He hears Arthur call out to his men "But make it one last shot!" He says "Every shot must count!" He reminds them. Arthur and the knights each take their place the higher level, all armed with crossbows and ready to fire.
Merlin moves alongside Arthur, handing him his crossbow. "Who sent a dragon to attack Camelot?" He asks as Arthur shrugs "I can only suspect two people" Arthur replies before he adds "But I didn't know there were any more dragons"he says referring to Palpatine and Morgause and that many dragons were killed during the great purge. They all watched the dragon fly around once more letting out a loud roar.
"Tonight is not your night to die!" Arthur ensures his men "I'll make sure of that" he assures them just as the dragon turns around and prepares to fly once more towards the castle. "Hold firm!" Arthur tells them as the knights hold their crossbows in the direction of the dragon. "Hold!" Arthur calls out as Merlin watches the dragon flying even closer. "Hold!" He repeats at the same time the dragon is within meters from the castle.
Arthur's piercing blue eyes stared directly at the dragon before he cries "Now!" He calls however at the moment Arthur and the knights were going to fire their weapons, the dragon opens his mouth and breathes fire right towards them causing them all to duck down to avoid being burned.
Arthur's idea to take the dragon down with their crossbows had backfired big time and sent him, Merlin and the knights scrambling back down into the courtyard which was pretty much emptied except for the dead bodies of knights and villagers. The knights came running back into the courtyard as the dragon flew low over head.
Unfortunately, at that moment, Gwen had bravely and strongly left the safety of the castle to fetch more water for the injured and dodging debris and fire from the dragon, she made her way to the well and began to retrieve water. It had only been a few days since Arthur's enchantment had been broken and Arthur had cleverly convinced her to stay a little while longer before going back to Winterfell. Now she was focusing on the water and the well that she hadn't seen Arthur rushing back into the courtyard, his eyes staring up at the dragon preparing to fire down at them.
The dragon roars as Arthur looks around at his men "Clear the square!" He tells them before he notices Gwen "Gwen!" He calls out however she can't hear him over the roar of the dragon so he starts to run towards her. "Guinevere!" He cries out as she turns to see the dragon flying down towards her. Frozen in fear, Arthur manages to grab her hand and pull her away from the well running for shelter.
However the dragon is faster and scoops down, his claws digging into Arthur's shoulder causing him to cry out before he and Gwen hit the ground hard. Barely any time to breathe, Arthur grabbed Gwen's hand before she wraps an arm around his shoulder before they helped each other out of the courtyard and into the castle.
Whilst at the same time, Merlin races through the courtyard seeing the dragon roaring above the courtyard still. He felt so powerless however he knew he had to at least try to hit the dragon. He spies one of the staffs which had been dropped by one of the soldiers "Fleoge! Gar!" Merlin cries out seeing the staff fly up towards the dragon however the staff barely strikes the dragon who angrily roars once more breathing fire towards Merlin once more causing him to quickly run for shelter. Now he felt really powerless.
Already inside the infirmary, Gwen had helped Arthur over to an empty stretcher where she had helped him out of the armour. He now sat in front of her in his pants, shirtless, as she treated his injured shoulder from the dragon's recent strike.
"You shouldn't have risked your life" Gwen tells him as Arthur smirks down at her "I wasn't going to let anything happen to you" he reminds her seeing her quietly look up at him before she feels him lift up at one of her hands and place it over his heart where she feels his heart beating. Neither could say a word as Gwen realised that Arthur truly meant those words. Anakin had Padme, Morgana had Robb and Arthur loved Gwen and was going to ensure she was always safe.
At the same time….
Gaius, who had been tending to another injured patient, had stopped to look over at the young prince and Gwen giving a small smile. It was very rare to see a smile from the young prince ever since Anakin and Morgana left for Winterfell and Gwen still brought out a smile in the prince.
It was then at that moment, his attention was turned away by Merlin's arrival. "Gaius!" Merlin breathes as Gaius looks over at the young man "Are you hurt?" He asks as Merlin shakes his head "There's nothing I can do!" He whispers "My magic is no good" he mutters in a low voice "It doesn't work" he replies as Gaius nods
"Dragons aren't monsters" he tells him "They're creatures of wonder and magic" he explains "You must realise that they're immune to your powers" he informs him as Merlin was at a lost for words once more as they both hear the dragon flying around the castle outside as Merlin wondered just what they could do that would send the dragon away.
As the sun rose in Camelot the following morning, smoke billowed from the towers and villagers homes as Uther orders his son, knights, advisors and Gaius to meet and inform him of the casualties of last night's attack, damage to the city and what to do next.
Uther stood at a small table with three knights around him looking down at the parchment before him as Arthur stood in front of him. "The dead number: 49 men, 27 women, a further 18 women and children are unaccounted for" Arthur informs him almost choking on the last part before he went on "Most of last night's fires are now out. The castle walls in particular, the western section are near the collapse. I could go on" he says as Uther then asks
"Do we have any further idea as to why the dragon decided to attack?" He asks as one of the knights Leon spoke up "I regret to say, sire, we do not know. It appears to be random, the sorcerer most likely far beyond the border" he says as Uther looks out the window before he looks around the room. "There must be some way to rid ourselves of this aberration" he insists before he looks over at his old friend "Gaius?" He asks
Luckily for Uther, Gaius knew exactly what they needed to do. He slowly raises his head. "We need a dragonlord, sire" he replies as Uther blinks in disbelief "You know very well that's not an option" he reminds him referring to the fact that many magical people were banished or killed including dragon lords. Gaius looks back at his friend. "Sire, what if, there was indeed one last dragonlord left" he reveals. Everyone is silent as Uther looks over at his old friend in shock
"That's not possible" he breathes as Gaius asks once more "But if there was" he says as Uther shakes his head "What are you saying?" He asks. Gaius straightens up. "There is a rumour" he says as Uther simply replies "Go on" as Gaius continues "There is one such person, she calls herself The Mother of Dragons" he reveals
Uther is confused "Mother of Dragons?" As Arthur is quick to jump into the conversation "Where does she live?' He asks as Gaius looks over at the prince. "She keeps to herself in her family's original castle, called Dragonstone. West of Camelot and resides in Westeros" he reveals as Arthur then goes on "If this woman still exists, then it is our duty to find her" he insists as Uther then points out "Westeros is a long journey and the dragon is still out there and could come back at any moment. With your brother not here, you need to help keep Camelot safe and besides our enemies are still out there and if they discover you have left the city, they will come after you" he warns as Arthur shakes his head "It's a risk father and besides would it be any more dangerous than staying here?" He asks "I'll not stand by and watch my men die when I have the chance to save them!" He argues
Uther shakes his head "I have given you my orders" he warns as the knights, advisors and Gaius all remain silent as Arthur goes on "Do not make this a test of wills, father" he warns as Uther goes on "I'm not talking to you as a father, I'm talking to you as a King!" He exclaims as Arthur begins to head from the room "I will ride immediately" he assures him as Uther tries pleading with him once more "My concern is for you" he insist as Arthur only turns back to him. "Mine is for Camelot" he simply replies "I'll send word when I've found her" he tells him looking over at Merlin. "Prepare the horses" he instructs him as Merlin silent, simply nods to Uther before he follows Arthur from the room. He would be there to ensure Arthur's safety and hoped they could find this Mother of Dragons.
A few minutes later, Gaius returned to his chambers to find Merlin packing for the journey. Merlin, still thinking about the conversation in the chamber, looks over at Gaius as he continued to pack and asks. "Who were the dragon lords Gaius?" He asks as Gaius looks over at him "There were once those who could talk to the dragons, tame them" he explains as Merlin then asks "What happened to them?" As Gaius goes on "Uther believed that the art of the dragonlord was too close to magic and so he had them all rounded up and slaughtered" he recounts as Merlin tilts his head
"But this Mother of Dragons, she survived" he says as Gaius gives him a small shrug. "The Mother of Dragons was most likely a child during the purge and given that Westeros is beyond Camelot's borders she would have been safe however because many dragons were killed during the purge along with dragon lords, she may not be wanting to help save Camelot given that she wants to protect all the innocents and her dragons" he explains
Merlin blinks in surprise "Her dragons?" He asks as Gaius nods "I don't know much about the Mother of Dragons other than what others have told me" he says adding "But they say she has her own dragons and she isn't afraid to use them on those who don't follow her rules or disobey her" he says,
Merlin slings a bag over his shoulder as Gaius looks over at him "Merlin, promise me you and Arthur will be safe and you will not do anything which sees her use her dragons on you" he insists as Merlin gives him a small smile. "I promise Gaius. We will convince her to help us save Camelot and its people" he promises. Gaius then decided to add before Gaius watches Merlin leaves the chamber to head down to the stables before meeting up with Arthur.
By mid morning, Merlin had brought two horses out from the stables and begins to pack their belongings. Gaius approaches Merlin as he prepares his horse.
"You got everything you need?" He asks as Merlin nods before he looks over at him "I promise, we'll be safe. We'll find the Mother of Dragons and convince her to help us before its too late" he insists as Gaius gives him a small smile "I know that" he assures him just at the moment Arthur comes up to him. "Come on Merlin" he tells him as Merlin looks over at him "You're ready?" He asks as Arthur gets up on his horse
"No, thanks to you" he says just as Arthur starts to feel his wound start to ache once more causing him to cringe slightly. "You okay?" Merlin asks him as Arthur simply nods "It's just a scratch" he insists before he starts move his horse out of the courtyard. Merlin moves to follow him before Gaius stops him. "Merlin, whatever happens, you cannot let her know you have magic" he warns "Especially with Arthur there" he reminds him before he watches Merlin lead his horse out of the courtyard and after Arthur.
By early afternoon, Arthur and Merlin had crossed the border over Camelot and were heading into Westeros. Arthur really wished he had his brother beside him along with Merlin but he knew he wouldn't let him down.
They could see the outline of Dragonstone in the distance. Merlin then hears Arthur speak up. "Dragonstone's still a good day's ride ahead. We still need to still be on alert" he informs him adding "This Mother of Dragons better be worth it" he confesses before they continue riding once more determined to not lose any further time. The sooner they reached Dragonstone, the sooner they could be back home and saving Camelot.
Meanwhile, in their new hiding place in the city of King's Landing, thanks to their new alliance with Cersei Lannister, Palpatine and Morgause stood in their quarters looking down at the veil seeing Arthur and Merlin making their way through the forest.
"Uther is pathetic to send his son out with just a mere servant" he spat "Especially since he allowed his other son to just disappear" he scoffs as Morgause looks over at him "We could attack them now, ensure he never makes it back to his father" she suggests as Palpatine shakes his head
"No, let him think he is still safe and continue with his journey wherever he is going" he warns as Morgause tilts her head curiously. "What would make Uther send his son to Westeros?" She asks as Palpatine shrugs "My old friend is a fool. He wants to protect his sons but he cannot control them and that is where we will ensure his downfall comes from the hands of his own sons" he explains right at the moment their new ally enters their quarters.
"How are you finding your quarters?" Cersei asks in a calm voice as Morgause nods "Well, it's better than a cave" she admits before Cersei then goes on "Well, you'll soon have plenty of quietness" she says seeing them look over at her before she goes on "My husband wants me to accompany him to go to see his friend Ned Stark" she explains as Morgause smirks
"A perfect opportunity for you to tell us what is happening since his son's marriage to Uther's ward" she tells her "It will help us continue to create our plot which destroy her family and in turn destroy the Starks along with the Pendragons" she says. Cersei smirks "And continuing my reign as Queen" she adds before she exits the room leaving Palpatine and Morgause alone once more with their new plot to bring down Uther.
That evening, Arthur and Merlin decided to stop off at a tavern in Westeros, half way to Dragonstone. It was raining hard by the time they secured the horses forcing them to run into the tavern. Their arrival forces everyone inside the tavern to look at them with looks of death in their eyes. Arthur smirks. "Greetings!" He chimes right at the moment a man suddenly pulls a knife out placing it on the table.
Arthur and Merlin then silently move towards an empty table right before the innkeeper comes over and sloppy slops their drinks over the table. Arthur decides to see if the locals in the tavern could ensure they were on the right path and that this journey wouldn't be a waste of time. "We're looking for woman named the Mother of Dragons" he tells him "I'm willing to pay….." Arthur pauses before he drops a bag down on the table. "…Handsomely" he replies as the innkeeper smirks over at him "Never heard of her" he replies taking a handful of coins as Merlin looks around the tavern.
"Do you think one of these men knows her?" He asks as Arthur shrugs "Honestly Merlin, I do not know" he simply replies as they continued to enjoy their drinks.
An hour later, Arthur and Merlin had headed up to the guest chamber that the innkeeper had allowed them to stay in for the night. Arthur noticed how quiet Merlin was since they left Camelot and wanted to see if everything was alright. "What is wrong with you today?" He asks as Merlin looks over at him "What?" He asks as Arthur smirks "It pains me to admit it, but I do enjoy your surly retorts" he admits "In fact, it's probably your only redeemable feature" he teases. Merlin is puzzled by his statement "Thanks" he replies as Arthur goes on
"There are loads of servant who can serve" he points out adding "So few are capable of making a complete prat of themselves" before he asks "What is it?" As Merlin shakes his head "Nothing" he replies as Arthur continues to go on "It's something, tell me" he says adding "I know I'm a prince so we can't be friends but if I wasn't a prince" he says as Merlin blinks in shock "What?" He asks as Arthur cheekily grins "Well, then I think we'd probably get on. I mean since Anakin and Morgana left, you're the only person there for me" he points out as Merlin shrugs "So?" He asks as Arthur then goes on "So at least you can tell me?" He asks before Merlin grins "Well, that's true. But you see, if you weren't a prince, I'd tell you to mind your own damn business" he says as Arthur looks over at him.
"Merlin, are you missing Gaius or Morgana?" He teases referring back to when he teased Merlin about having a crush on her. Merlin shrugs. He hadn't thought about his crush on Morgana since his journey to Winterfell. Merlin nods "Something like that" he mutters as Arthur continues to pester him once more "Well, what is it, then?" He asks right before he throws a pillow over at him taking Merlin by surprise "I'll tell you!" He exclaims sighing "I'm worried about everyone back in Camelot. I hope they're alright" he says as Arthur then nods "So do I" he admits hoping that they were fairing well without their help from any more dragon attacks.
Meanwhile back in Camelot, it would seem that this dragon was determined to ensure Camelot's destructions and without Arthur leading them it was up to the knights to keep up defences. They all stood in the courtyard as Leon led them, crossbows raised up towards him as Leon calls out "Hold!" He tells them "Hold!" He repeats "Hold!" He repeats for a third before as they all saw the dragon flying closer.
"Now!" He cries as they fire their crossbows directly at the dragon right before he blows another wave of fire forcing the knights to quickly hunch down and raising their shields above their heads to protect themselves from the flames whilst at the same time, Uther can only watched from inside his chambers as the dragon continues to burn his city once more.
Whilst in Dragonstone, Arthur and Merlin were finally able to fall asleep inside the room they had been renting. Unfortunately they were unaware that their presence in the small village had attracted an unwanted guest. Someone with the intent to rob them. They slowly sneak into the room noticing both Arthur and Merlin still asleep in their beds as he spies the small bag beside Arthur. He slowly makes his way towards Arthur's bed and begins to reach for the bag.
However, that was the moment Arthur's eye opened and saw the man standing over him. He quickly grabs the man's hand before he abruptly threw the man onto Merlin's bed startling him away as Arthur held his sword to his neck. "What's going on?" Merlin asks as Arthur, doesn't focus on Merlin and only on the intruder.
"Do you know what the punishment is for theft?" He asks him as the man, now afraid for his life begins to panic. "No, please!" He cries "I've got children to feed!" He quickly tells him as Arthur decides to find out if this man could help them in his journey. "Tell me, is there really a Mother of Dragons?" He asks as the man looks up at him confused "Mother of Dragons?" He asks as Arthur goes on "What do you know of her?" He asks as the man panics once more "Nothing, I…" he stutters as Arthur then asks "Do you value your life?" He asks as the man nods "I've not been there in years!" He cries as Arthur goes on "So, she's at Dragonstone?" He asks as the man nervously nods
"The Forest of Merenda, once you reach the edge, you'll find the water's edge and that will lead you to Dragonstone where Daenerys lives" he says. Arthur curiously looks over at him "Daenerys?"he asks as he nods "That's her real name" he reveals as Arthur releases his grip on the man. He then adds "But don't get your hopes up" he warns as Merlin tilts his head over at him. "Why?" He asks as the man scoffs "She will not welcome you especially him" he warns referring to Arthur. "She will not welcome a Prince of Camelot into her castle" he warns. Merlin is silent before Arthur reaches into his bag and passes him a handful of gold coins watching the man run from the room leaving them in silence wondering if they should continue their journey.
As soon as day broke, Arthur and Merlin left the small village and began to make their way through the Forest of Merenda. It was nearly mid day when they had reached the edge of the forest, the smell of the ocean reaching their nostils. Merlin then looks over to notice that Arthur starts to stumble as they near the water's edge. He quickly moves to help him.
Arthur brushes him off "It's alright" he tells him as Merlin shakes his head "No, it's the wound. Let me have a look" he insists right at the moment they heard sudden footsteps running on the sands ahead just as Merlin begins to inspect Arthur's wounded shoulder. "Get down, get down!" Merlin whispers before he pulls Arthur back behind one of the trees once more as a small group of soldiers, most likely from Dragonstone pass by patrolling for intruders.
Merlin breathes a sigh of relief before he places a hand on his friend. 'Arthur?" He whispers with no response "Arthur?" He whispers as he turns him over to find that Arthur has passed out. Merlin knew instantly he needed to get him help as soon as possible.
A few minutes later, Merlin had managed, with great difficulty to lift Arthur onto his horse before he leads them both across the sands of the beach towards Dragonstone. He could see the path ahead leading up to the castle. He guides the horses up the path leading to the entrance of the castle where he sees two guards standing at the entrance. Merlin takes a deep breath before he walks forward.
"Hello" he says keeping the nerves down and his voice calm as the two guards remained silent and firm. "Dragonstone does not allow unwelcome visitors" the first spoke as Merlin looks back at Arthur, still unconscious. "I seek help for my friend. He needs help!" He insists as the second guard scoffs
"You won't find help here" he says as Merlin tries once more "Please!" He cries "He's wounded, I need to help him!" He cries as the guards remain firm however it was another voice that spoke. "Let him pass" they replied. They were female. The guards turned and Merlin saw a tall, dark skinned woman, with black hair dressed in a light blue long halter dress coming towards them.
Merlin was unaware that this woman was the Mother of Dragon's personal advisor, Missandei. Merlin looks over at her "Please let us in so I can help my friend!" He insists as Missandei looks past Merlin over to the figure of Arthur. She tilts her head. "And what brings an unconscious Prince Arthur of Camelot to Dragonstone?" She asks curiously as Merlin froze. It would appear that there was no hiding their true identities and so he may as well just reveal why they are here.
"We seek an audience with the Mother of Dragons" he says as Missandei straightens herself. "Daenerys does not speak with many especially anyone associated with Uther Pendragon" she states referring to the fact that Uther allowed many dragons to be killed during the great purge and many innocent people died because they were born with magic.
Merlin tried once more "Please, let me help my friend and they we can explain why we need her help" he says as the guards looked to Missandei who looks back at Merlin. "You may help your friend, but don't expect Daenerys to help you" she says turning to lead him back into the castle's courtyard as Merlin moves to follow her, unaware that from one of the castle's high balcony's overlooking the courtyard, Daenerys Targaryen watched silently and curiously as her new arrivals followed her personal advisor into her castle wondering just what brought one of Uther Pendragon's sons to her castle.
Missandei had four guards help Arthur down from his horse and up to one of the spare chambers where she had sent for the healer to help examine and tend to Arthur's wound. Merlin watches from the front of the bed as the healer applies medicine to the wound softly whispering a spell "Ahluttre pa seocnes. Purh-haele braed" they mutter before they turn towards Merlin.
Merlin looks over at them "Will he be alright?" He asks. The healer looks over at him. "By morning" they softly replied and exits the room "Thank you" he replies watching them leave before he then moves across to the small balcony in their chambers looking out over the land seeing the waves crashing into the rocks in the distance. Merlin feels his hands grip the balcony rails in front of him. They had done it. They had made it to Dragonstone - there was a Mother of Dragons however it was clear she was no fan of Uther Pendragon and it would be not be easy to convince her to join them. Merlin then wipes a tear from his cheek just as he hears a voice from behind him.
"How is he?" They asked in a clear gentle voice as Merlin turns around and his eyes widen as he saw a young woman standing at the entrance. She was beautiful! As beautiful as Morgana. As she moved into the room, he could see she had long white blond hair two curls at the front and flowing at the back with a braid and she wore a long sleeveless white v neck dress with feathered pattern at the top of the dress.
Merlin looks over at Arthur sleeping soundly. "They said he'll be fine in the morning. He just need to rest" he tells her watching her move towards him and he saw a look of curiosity and sincerity on her face. Unfortunately, seeing as how he didn't know what the Mother of Dragons looked like, he had no idea he was standing right in front of her.
He watches her move over towards the balcony. "What are you doing here in Dragonstone?" She asks him as Merlin decides to keep it casual. He shrugs "Just travelling" he replies "We're looking for someone" he goes on adding "I was told, well..they said that she lived in Dragonstone. A woman called the Mother of Dragons" he says lowering his head "We need her help" he says as the woman lightly laughs
"No one's seen her in years" she replies before she looks over at him "What's your name?" She asks him as Merlin looks over at her "I'm Merlin" he replies before she tilts her head "And why are you travelling with Prince Arthur, Uther Pendragon's young son?" She asks as Merlin repeats himself "We came to find the Mother of Dragons" he says "A Dragon is attacking Camelot" he informs her.
She looks back at him "Dragons don't just attack kingdoms randomly and considering that Uther allowed many dragons to be slaughtered all those years ago. It's a wonder any dragons aside from the dragons owned by the Mother of Dragons are still alive" she says as Merlin went on "We can't stop him, we need the Mother of Dragons" he says "He's killing innocent people, including women and children" he says as Merlin looks back at Arthur
"Arthur won't leave Dragonstone until he's persuaded her to come back to Camelot" he explains seeing her look over at him before he then asks "Do you think she would stand by and allow everyone in Camelot to die?" As she gives a small shrug "After what she has heard about what Uther did to many magical people and creatures, should she care for him now?' He asks.
Merlin was about to respond before he heard Arthur stirring "Merlin" he coughs "Merlin" he mumbles once more as the woman looks back at him "I'll leave you to tend to your friend" she says however she turned to leave, Merlin grabs one of her hands stopping her in her place. "Please convince her to let us speak with her" he says. She looks up at him and she could see the tears in his brown eyes. "I will try" she replies before he drops her hand and watches her leave. Merlin was unaware that he had just made a connection with Daenerys Targaryen, the Mother of Dragons herself.
As the sun rose over Dragonstone the next day, Merlin found himself back on the balcony, he was thinking about the young woman he spoke with last night hoping she was telling the Mother of Dragons about their plea right now so he'd have good news for Arthur. Merlin was still thinking about his conversation with her when he heard Arthur getting out of the bed, feeling more refreshed than ever.
"I feel great!" Arthur exclaims stretching his arms "What the hell did you give me?" He asks as Merlin looks back at him. "Dragonstone's healer healed you" he tells him as Arthur's eyes widen as he moves out onto the balcony "We made it then?" He asks "Is she?" He adds. Arthur slowly hobbles up along side him as Merlin gives a shrug
"I haven't seen her. I'm not sure she's going to help" he says as Arthur looks over at him "What?" He asks as Merlin went on "She hasn't been since since I arrived here with you and she hasn't even tried to meet" he insists unaware of just who he met last night as Arthur is bewildered once more "Does she know what's a stake?" He asks as Merlin nods as Arthur scoffs looking out out into the distance beyond Dragonstone.
"What kind of woman is she?" He asks as Merlin shrugs "I don't know" he softly replies "I thought she'd be something more" he admits right at the moment the doors to their chamber open and in steps two guards followed by Missandei. She courtesies before Arthur.
"Your highness" she spoke in a clear voice before she goes on "The Mother of Dragons, Lady Targaryen requests your presence in her throne room" she says adding "If you would follow me both" she tells them as Merlin swallows the lump in his throat before Arthur looks back at him "Well, least we'll have a chance to plead our case" he says before Arthur follows Missandei from the quarters followed by Merlin and the two guards.
While Arthur and Merlin were preparing to meet Daenerys Targaryen, back home in Camelot as day broke and the dragon had flown off for a few hours, the townspeople were rushing through the city carrying buckets of water throughout the lower town desperately putting out the fires from the night before.
Gwen was at a loss as she looked around the town which now looked like a battlefield. Tears stained her dark cheeks right at the moment Gaius approached her "You miss them. Anakin and Morgana?" He asks before he adds "They're stronger. I'm sure they've known heard about what has happened here and are sending help" he insists. It hadn't been lost on Gaius when he spotted a rider from Winterfell riding into the city.
A tearful Gwen looked over at Gaius "And Arthur?" She asks as Gaius goes on "You care alot for him, don't you?' He asks seeing as Gwen shakes her head "Everyone does, in the same way they do for his brother" she reminds him as Gaius smiles "He cares the same way about you" he smirks with a nod "It's alright, I won't tell anyone" he promises as Gwen sighs "Despite what Arthur says, I know we can never be" she admits as Gaius shakes his head giving a friendly smile "Oh…the world's a strange place Guinevere" he reminds her "Never underestimate the power of love. I've seen it change many things" he confesses.
Arthur and Merlin followed Missandei down to the throne room. There were guards stationed at their posts including at the base of six large stoned steps which lead to a large jagged rock throne. Missandei approached the throne as Arthur and Merlin moved into the centre. It was then Merlin's eyes widen in horror - the figure sitting one the jagged rock throne - was the young woman he spoke with last night!
Daenerys sat on her throne dressed in a long charcoal coloured dress to the ground with black boots with her white blond hair curls at the front and flowing at back complete with silver sash across one side. Merlin couldn't believe it. He had talked to the Mother of Dragons herself! She had been so sincere and then twisted when he mentioned the dragon attacking Camelot and Uther. This would not be easy.
Arthur steps forward "Lady Targaryen, you're the Mother of Dragons?" He asks seeing her raise her head keeping a firm gaze on him as Missandei spoke up "Lady Daenerys Targaryen does not go by that name. It is the name others have given her based on stories they've created and seen" she says as Arthur then shakes his head thinking about what Anakin would do if he was in this position.
"I'm sorry, Lady Daenerys Targaryen" he spoke in a soft voice "I know that you probably condone me for what my father did many years ago to those with magic and magical creatures such as dragons" he says before he goes on "However, Camelot is in desperate need of your help and skills with dragons to stop a dragon currently attacking the kingdom" he states
Daenerys slowly lifts her head gazing down at Arthur. "And what's to say that King Uther won't then decide to hunt the dragon down or turn on me and have my dragons killed?" She asks as Arthur answers her "I'm telling you that I promise you that you will be safe along with your dragons if you help Camelot" he promises as Merlin looks over from Arthur to Daenerys.
"Why should I help a man who betrayed my family by murdering my father and sending my brother and I fleeing from our home allowing the Lannisters to claim it as their own?" She asks. Arthur goes silent. Nor he or Anakin knew much about their father's past before Camelot for he preferred to keep his past before he met their mother a secret.
Arthur, knowing what his brother would do next, steps forward. "My father's past is secret even from my brother and I" he reveals seeing her tilt her head at him before she spoke "So, you do not know that your father was once known as the King Slayer?" She asks as Merlin's eyes widen curious. King Slayer? He wonders as Arthur shakes his head "My father kept his past hidden from us. Despite my father's past, Camelot is my home as well and one day it will be my brother's turn to lead and he is not like our father" he insists
"This dragon has killed many men, women and children and if it is not stopped there will be no more Camelot!" He insists as Daenerys shrugs "Uther has killed many dragons before. He should know how to kill another" she says before she waves a hand "I will not help Uther" she informs him as Arthur shakes his head in disbelief
"Then the people of Camelot are damned" he reminds her as she is silent before Arthur steps forward. "I'm not leaving Dragonstone until you come with me" he insists as Daenerys shrugs "Then I suggest you get comfortable here Arthur Pendragon" she only replies before she gets to her feet and moves down the steps followed by Missandei. Merlin watches her cast a glance at Arthur before she silently moves past him. Merlin looks back at Arthur. "Arthur?" He asks as Arthur shakes his head "I'm not giving up" he says "Despite what my father did to her family, I will convince her to help us save Camelot" he says before he turns and heads from the chamber leaving Merlin with no choice but to follow him hoping there would still be a Camelot to save if they managed to convince Daenerys to come back with them.
Meanwhile, back in Winterfell, ever since the news had reached Anakin and Morgana that Camelot had been attacked by a dragon, they hardly slept awaiting for news about what was happening back home. Ned had sent one of his men to Camelot to find out information about Uther and Arthur but it was the waiting that Anakin and Morgana could not stand, waiting for answers.
When the man returned, Robb decided he would be the one to inform Morgana and Anakin about the situation. He found them exactly where they had been since they had first heard the news - in Anakin's chambers. Anakin sitting by the window and Morgana resting on his bed.
As Robb entered the room, Anakin silently looks over at him as Morgana sits up on the bed, "Robb?' She softly speaks "Do you have anything news?" She asks as he nods moving over to take a seat on the bed beside him as Anakin turns to look over at him as Robb takes one of Morgana's hands in his.
"Uther and Arthur are fine. They're alive and Arthur was leading the knights to try to defeat the dragon" he explains as Anakin tilts his head "Was?" He asks as Robb swallows the lump in his throat before he goes on. "Gaius told your father and Arthur about a dragonlord that can help rid Camelot of the dragon, known as the Mother of Dragons" he explains as Anakin then asks "So Arthur's gone with some knights to find her?" As Robb shakes his head.
"Arthur's gone only with the help of your servant and friend Merlin" he says as Anakin's eyes widen getting to his feet. "Where is this Mother of Dragons?" He asks "I've got to help him" he insists as Robb is quick to stop him. "Father won't let you neither will Obi Wan. Remember your father wanted you safe here. Arthur too" he says as Anakin simply brushes past him.
"He's my brother. I'm not going to let him do this journey alone!" He exclaims "You would do the same if it was one of your siblings" he reminds him right as Morgana softly spoke. "Anakin" she speaks moving over towards them, taking one of Robb's hands in hers and Anakin's in the other. "Robb's right Anakin" she says "You came to Winterfell with me because of what happened with Palpatine and Morgause and they're still out there" she reminds him squeezing his hand "We just need to entrust that Arthur will succeed and save Camelot" she says adding "And I trust that Merlin will ensure that no harm will come to him" she points out.
Anakin then looks over at Morgana and Robb. He sighs "I don't like just waiting around for news , but you're right" he says as Morgana gives him a hug "I know you want to be with Arthur but hopefully this nightmare will be soon over" she admits. Anakin looks down at her giving a small smile - despite wanting to be with his brother but with Palpatine and Morgause still out there, it was best to remain hidden in Winterfell.
Next time: As Arthur and Merlin remain in Dragonstone until Daenerys changes her mind, the dragon continues to destroy Camelot determined to see it burn. Anakin continues to become more impatient however it's Merlin who has another encounter with Daenerys that
