Erin woke up and nudged Jay, it was still very early but she couldn't sleep, "Jay. Baby. Wake up."
He squinted his eyes open trying to adjust his vision to meet hers, "What's going on, you okay?"
"I know you had a late night but I couldn't sleep."
He rolled over slightly to look at the clock, then he looked back at her and noticed she'd sat herself up to rest on the bed head, "Erin what's going on?"
"I'm seventeen weeks today." She smiled and rested her hand on her more noticeable bump, but still the normal person wouldn't take a second look.
Jay smiled, wiping his eyes to wake up more. He wasn't running on much sleep, "I know baby."
"I want to tell everyone. I want to come back to intelligence. I think it's time."
He rubbed his hand back and fourth on her belly, then bent down giving it small kisses, "I love you guys."
"We love you too." She smiled grabbing his face to bring their lips together. The kiss started to deepen and they could both feel each other's hearts starting to beat faster.
Jay pulled back and smiled, "Wanting to tell everyone wasn't the only reason why you woke me up at four in the morning was it?"
"Maybe not," she shrugged and bit her lip seductively causing Jays heart to skip a beat, "Sorry it's the hormones."
He quickly pulled her shirt off and threw it on the ground causing her to chuckle, then he rolled her onto her back and hovered above her, "Can't argue with the hormones."
Erin had called Hank and given him a heads up about her wanting to tell everyone and come back to intelligence. He was more then thrilled. But before they could tell the team Will was first up, so they took the morning off to have breakfast with him.
Lily was following her father around, she was very attached to him lately and would mimic his every move. Erin's heart melted when she came home one day and saw Lily passing Jay tools as he fixed up his bike in the garage. Although she may have just been a distraction, those moments were when Jay loved being a father.
"We going to see uncie Will today?" Lily said pulling on Jays leg.
"Sure are Lil bear. But first we have something to tell you." He said lifting her up to sit on the kitchen counter.
Erin made her way to the kitchen before Jay could say anything, "We have to tell you that Uncie Will wants to have a sleepover with you this weekend."
Jay shot a confused look at Erin as Lily squealed in his ear, "Woah Lily, remember quiet near people's faces."
"Sorry daddy."
"It's okay," he put her back down on the ground, "Go grab your monkey then we will go, I'm thinking pancakes."
"Pancakes!" Lily jumped up and down, "I go get monkey."
Jay and Erin smiled, "Erin?"
"I don't want to tell her yet Jay, she will only get excited and I can't break her little heart again. She won't understand any different if she knows now or a month from now. And I'm barely showing."
"Says the woman that had to buy new jeans yesterday."
"Watch it." Erin said holding a finger up.
Jay smirked, "Okay we won't tell Lily just yet but does that mean..."
"I still want to tell everyone else. Unlike Lily they will know that I'm packing on some pounds, I mean they are detectives." Erin smiled.
"Okay babe. Let's do it then, can't keep Will waiting. Oh and did you actually mean that?"
"Mean what?"
"That Will wants to have a sleepover with Lily?"
"Yeah, Will and Natalie love spending time with her and I was talking to Will the other day..."
"When did you see Will?" Jay said confused, he hadn't even seen his brother in a few weeks.
"Calm down. He came around the other day when you were working, he was dropping some of Owens old books off."
"Oh right."
"Yeah. You good?"
"Yeah I just would have liked you to have spoken to me first before organising to ship our daughter off for the weekend."
Erin rolled her eyes, "Like you will be complaining during the weekend."
Jay stayed silent for a second, "I don't even know why I'm fighting it. I definitely won't be complaining."
Before Jay could get too close to Erin Lily came crashing into their legs, "I got monkey."
Erin giggled and lifted Lily into her arms, "Go you Lil bear. Let's go get pancakes then."
"Yeah! Come on daddy." Lily said waving her dad to follow as Erin walked off with her daughter on her hip.
"Yes ma'am." Jay chuckled, his daughter was definitely a mini Erin bossing him around.
"This kid is going to have a sugar high after we finish up here." Jay said as he cut up Lily's pancakes.
"Oh well that's the daycares problem." Will smiled as he tickled Lily's stomach.
"Lucky them," Erin laughed, as she watched Will make Lily giggle and squirm in the high chair, "Okay Will that's enough she needs to eat."
He hold his hands up in defence, "Sorry."
Erin rolled her eyes as they all dug into their pancakes. Lily kept bringing her fork up to share with her uncle or father as they sat side by side with her, "Lily that's for you." Jay said as he pointed towards her mouth.
"For you daddy." She said holding up another piece of pancake.
"Num num num," Jay said as he pretended to eat what she had in her hand, "Now you eat the rest."
"So what do you guys have planned for the weekend? Owen is so excited to have Lily over." Will said excitedly.
"Seems you are aswell." Erin giggled.
"Yeah maybe, I love spending time with my niece." He said ruffling Lily's hair.
"Well you will be happy to know that she actually sleeps in her own bed and stays there for the entire night now. We even practised at Hanks one time when he took her for the night and she did there too." Jay explained.
"Ah man I thought I'd get Lily snuggles." Will joked.
"But the answer to your question, no we don't have anything planned because I had no idea. Erin didn't mention it to me." Jay said, Erin was unsure if she felt a little bit of annoyance in his voice.
Will looked between both of them when Erin gave Jay a look, "Good surprise then?" He shrugged trying to ease the tension.
Jay looked up and noticed Erin's look, he quickly smiled and played it off, "Oh yeah of course. It will be great, we don't get much alone time. This one has impeccable timing."
Erin nodded, pretty much giving the look that he saved himself just in time before she snapped. He had to get use to these hormones.
"Ah Will there's something we want to tell you, but little ears are listening so Erin do you want to?" Jay said nodding his head towards Lily as Will sat there confused.
"Come on sweet girl let's go clean those hands up." She said getting the hint.
Once she and Lily were out of hearing distance Jay smiled like a Cheshire Cat, so did Will, "Erin's pregnant?" Jay nodded, quickly Will stood up, pulling his brother up for a hug, "That's so great man, I'm so happy for you."
"Thanks bro."
"How far along is she?" Will asked as they took their seats again.
"Seventeen weeks today actually."
"Oh really?" Will said surprised, "How did you guys keep it a secret that long?"
"She's been working at the academy, she didn't want to tell anyone until she was ready. Obviously we are both still scared but we want to enjoy it."
"I get that. I can't even begin to imagine." Will said.
"So we are telling everyone today. You and Hank are the only ones to know how."
Will bought his hand to his heart, "You told Hank before me?"
Jay smirked, "Well Erin needed to be transferred without it looking suss to everyone else so of course Hank had to find out."
"Okay okay fair."
"The reason I got Erin to take Lily is because Erin told me this morning, just before I was about to tell Lily that she doesn't want to explain it just yet."
"Lily won't know the difference anyway. I agree with Erin, I think it's a smart idea. You know I'm here for you guys no matter what yeah?"
"Yeah I know man. Thankyou, we appreciate it."
"You and Erin all good besides all this? You seemed abit touchy about me taking Lily this weekend?" Will said cautiously.
Jay nodded, "Yeah. I guess I just have a lot going on in my head right now."
"You don't have to act all strong around me Jay, I know how scared you must also be about the baby..."
Jay waved Will off, "Nah it's not that. It's the sergeants exam."
"Sorry what?"
"Oh I forgot that we haven't seen each other in a couple weeks. We really have to make more time for each other," Jay chuckled as he watched Will wait for an explanation, "Hank told me two weeks ago that he wants me to sit the sergeants exam so one day I can take over intelligence."
"Wow."
"Yeah wow."
"And?"
"And I still haven't given him a straight answer."
"Why not? You love your job?"
"I love my family. And we are expecting another baby, it's just a lot and I don't want to turn..."
"Your not going to turn out like dad. I won't let that happen, neither will Erin."
"I don't want to be that dad that only sees their kids on the weekends for half an hour either."
"Then lean on us, lean on your team. You don't have to do it all by yourself."
"That's what Erin said." Jay said lifting the corner of his mouth into a tiny smirk.
"She's a smart woman that wife of yours."
"So I've been told." Erin said appearing from behind them, as she placed Lily onto Wills lap.
"You were longer then I thought." Jay looked up to Erin.
"Thought you guys were in need of a brotherly chat." She smiled.
"Yeah about that," Will handed Lily off to Jay and stood up from his seat bringing Erin into a squeezy hug, "Congratulations Erin, I'm so happy for you guys." He whispered in her ear.
"Thanks Will."
After breakfast with Will, they dropped Lily off at daycare and made their way into the district. Making sure to invite Trudy up to the bullpen with them, "Morning everyone." They both said in sync.
They walked up to stand in-front of Hanks office as everyone stood from their desks confused, Erin was back and in her normal clothes, badge and gun attached to her hip.
Kim looked at Trudy and whispered, "What's going on?"
Trudy shrugged, "I know nothing."
"Well I'd just like to announce that I'm back, no more academy for me. I've had enough of teaching the youngens how to police, though I will say it is nice knowing that I will be apart of what type of cop they will be." Erin explained as everyone happily said how happy they were to have her back in the bullpen.
"Be good to have a little bit more oestrogen in here." Kim said, causing Hailey to chuckle.
"Not wrong, I swear these boys have way more testosterone then they should have." Hailey joked.
The boys just rolled their eyes and told them they were kidding themselves, "Anyway, we have something else to share." Jay said.
They all looked at the married couple waiting to hear what they had to say, "I'm pregnant."
"Guys that's so great," Kim was the first to congratulate them, "You deserve it so much."
"Thanks Kim really." Erin said giving her friend a hug.
They all shared hugs and congratulated Erin one by one, "How far along are you?" Adam asked.
"Seventeen weeks." Erin said confidently.
"You kept it a secret that long?" Kevin said surprised, "How did none of us think of that or realise."
"That's why I went to the academy, I didn't want anyone knowing so soon. Until we were both ready," She slid her fingers to intertwine with Jays, "But we couldn't wait any longer. Plus," she unzipped her hoodie revealing the tight shirt she had tucked in her jeans that outline her growing bump, "I couldn't hide this any longer."
"Look at you." Trudy said gesturing towards Erin's bump.
"Yep getting bigger by the minute." Erin joked.
"She had to buy a new pair of jeans yesterday." Jay said not so quietly to Adam.
"Don't you dare Halstead." Erin shot at him.
"Sorry sorry." He held his hands up in defence.
"Yeah you should no better then to upset a pregnant lady," Kim joked, "And Adam don't you encourage him."
They all laughed and enjoyed the news for a little bit longer until duty called. But now both Erin and Jay felt like a weight was lifted off their shoulders, they didn't have to hide it anymore, their family knew and it was time to really start enjoying this.
