Tasha helped Teresa with getting the costume together. And in an expedited manner. I on the other hand did urban recon and let my sister and wife... (that was a new one) do their thing. In both ways actually. Having both a sister "and" a wife was still something of a real shocker. I'd lost my old family but gained a new one.
And... uncle Ben and my old family were still there. Waiting for me. Watching over me. But I had something new to look forward to as well.
Your luck's not always bad Parker! Not always.
Hell, my luck right now was pretty damned good.
Proving this was our current situation. A lot of people had it bad. I could see that all around me. I'd been laughing with some tears of joy while hell on earth had taken place right outside our safe house window. We were at the edge of Hell's Kitchen; which I hadn't realized at the time. Matt's turf and that of many other heroes. Heroes and longtime friends I didn't know were dead or alive still...
And I'd been celebrating... don't do that Pete! You know the ladies would tell you different; and they'd be right to do so!
You're alive. So are they. And we're all together again. That's what matters. That's the core that leads to everything else. All else is secondary.
My reconnaissance of the area didn't last long. It didn't need to. It was chaos central there. Crime was happening all the time. Without radios cops were easily overwhelmed. I'd even heard people and cops crying out for superheroes. Where were they all at? They called out to the air.
They'd even yelled out for Spider-Man while I reconnoitered there. Even so; I only watched. For one of the few times ever as Spider-Man I did not intervene. It was weird; and I definitely felt the temptation to get into the fight; but it wasn't meant to be just yet. I didn't mean that in a religious sense. It just wasn't the right time.
The spiders, three of us, would intervene when the time was right.
It was during that recon I decided that I would call my new post electric home the kitchen. The kitchen "sink" of hell already appeared to be here. So it only made sense that the spiders would be here too. I wasn't trying to intrude on Matt's turf. But he hadn't appeared to be around; and there was no way to know for sure.
And ultimately my fellow spiders and I had only agreed on intervening in urban affairs when we were ready. That meant when Teresa had her suit up and ready to go; and she was well underway into her training. All moving part variables that had to go together seamlessly. And they had yet to do so.
I wasn't ready to head back just yet. I had an instinct to go to Matt's old pad. See what was up. I'd be a little delayed but it wouldn't worry the family too much I gathered.
I swung for it and reached it not long later. I reached a window and slowly opened it. Senses were calm. I was soon inside. I spotted candlelight from an adjacent room. I moved slowly for it...
"It's okay Peter. It's just me." Phew! It was Matt all right. I entered his living room. "Matt. You okay?" "Yeah Pete. I'm fine. How's everyone else?" "Good. I made my sister spider woman." "Impressive; and unsurprising." "Doctor strange sent Tasha back restored as well. We just married."
Matt had been praying the rosary at my entry. He stood and faced me. "Pete. That's awesome. Congratulations. Good to hear some good news for a change." The yelling and wailing outside remained a constant reminder of how things were. Matt "why the candle you wondered?" I shrugged then ventured a scientific guess. "The dispersive heat and light better help illuminate area surroundings to fill out your radar sense imagery."
Matt smiled. "Very good." He then looked down at his rosary. "Are you wondering why I'm not out there?" It was night and a good question. He held up the rosary. "I've been feeling the call to priesthood for a while now..." "whoa Matt. That's great." "Yes." He walked over to a window. I joined him. "I've helped many as an attorney; but I can truly save souls with faith." "What about the other guy?" "I'll still be daredevil." "Father Matt and daredevil both... I like it."
"Change has occurred everywhere. The kitchen will always be my home. But it needs more than what an attorney can do. Especially now in a lawless world like this now. It needs faith and hope. Priests have done that forever."
I set a hand on his arm. "I support you fully; as will the spiders. Speaking of which; we're gonna call the kitchen home too. If you don't mind." "Of course not. We need all the help we can get. And you're already here."
"Matt... God gave me my powers back. I lost them and got them back. They're mystical or something now." Matt nodded; unsurprised. "God has called you and your fellow spiders to make a difference in the kitchen Peter. It is destiny. Embrace it." "I will. Will you be okay here?" "I will." "We'll be in touch." "Of course. Stay safe out there Pete." "You too Matt."
I swung back for the spider pad.
"It's finished" Teresa said proudly and held up the costume. Tasha stood proudly beside her with a smile; she'd helped speed things up considerably. "Awesome possum sis. Try it on." "I will."
I walked up to my new wife as Teresa went to see how the new threads fit. I took Tasha's hands into mine. We shared a small kiss. "I saw Matt. He wants to be a priest now." "Interesting." "Told him we'd help with the kitchen." Tasha nodded. "Good idea. He'll need it."
"How do I look?" Black widow and I checked out the latest spider family addition. "Sis; you 'are' a certified bad ass now."
"Let's go then." Without further word she leaped out the window and swung away, stunning me. Tasha smiled. "Go trainer. Help her to learn the webs." Nice one! Spidey worthy. I kissed her quick then leaped out the same window to swing after my spider padawan learner.
A new era of ass kicking had begun...
