Jayce POV
I heard what J.R. said. I was able to get into the medbay though Crosshairs was with me. I'm glad he followed me. He got me out of the room before I started crying. J.R. doesn't need this right now. I hate she can't be taken off oxygen. What a fucking nightmare I've caused. Saying nothing, Crosshairs picked me up and walked up to my room.
He sat on the bed, and I hugged him.
"I'm sorry," I sobbed.
"No, Jayce, no need to be sorry. We understand you worried after Buddy's passing, Jamie's mental health would decline. The fear has caused your own mental health to decline. Now we're trying to help you get past this. We will never give up on you, Jamie or J.R. We don't understand what you need to see to know Jamie is ok," Crosshairs explains, 'you know after watching Jamie fight for her life, Drift has become... not overprotective but he keeps a close eye on her without being up her aft, she's safe."
I don't know why I'm still thinking this way. Considering the work they've done to make sure I can't kill myself; if Jamie got to that point, she'd be safe.
"J.R. will be ok-."
"Her lung was punctured twice; she's on oxygen even after Bulma and Jamie repaired her lung-."
"Jamie checked to make sure there isn't a problem; everything is fine."
I don't know what else to say; I continue to cry. Crosshairs hugged me tight and started moving in a slow rocking motion.
Cade POV
I tried to get Izzy, Tessa, and Vivian to leave, but they insisted on staying and trying to help with Jayce and J.R.
"Is she getting weaker?" Vivian frets, seeing J.R. in oxygen and her low oxygen level.
"No, she's fine," I assure her.
By now, J.R. is asleep, Drift sitting by her.
"She and Jayce have a long road to recovery. They want us to give up on them," Drift sighs.
"With their mental state, they seem to forget we've been dealing with Jamie's struggles for years," I point out.
The three girls and I leave the room and go upstairs to see how Jayce is doing.
I walk in first to see what's going on. Crosshairs is holding Jayce, who is asleep.
"Did she fall asleep?" I ask.
"Yeah," he replies.
Crosshairs stood up and laid Jayce on the bed. He covered her with a blanket before we left the room.
"What happened?" Tessa asks.
"She feels guilty for everything that's been going on the past four months. Still worried about Jamie and thinks J.R. is in critical condition and could die," Crosshairs explains.
"Damn, both Jamie and J.R. have talked to her already."
Crosshairs walks away before I could say anything else.
"Is he going to talk to Drift about..." Tessa trailed off.
"I don't know, they'd talk to the other Autobots and me about it, but they make the final decision."
"Why?" Vivian asks.
"They'll have to support Jamie and J.R. we'd help, but the girls always go to them," I explain.
Crosshairs POV
I told Drift what Jayce told me. We both considered the possibility we've delayed this long enough.
"I know you hate the idea we'll be making Jamie distraught, but how much longer can we keep this up?"
"No, don't," J.R. cries.
Shit, we thought she was sleeping.
I helped Drift move her onto his lap, being careful with the IV and oxygen tubes.
We both see why she woke up; she's in pain again. She takes the mask off.
"Don't give up on Jayce. I know she's more of a challenge than Jamie, and it's exhausting..." she trailed off, knowing she'd end up crying, but tears still roll down her face. She's breathing fast. I put the oxygen mask back on. Damn Jamie, are you sure she's ok?
"You know the others would say the same even though they left the decision up to us?" Drift asks.
I nod while focusing on J.R.
"I'm putting you back on the bed," Drift says as he stands up. We both watch her wince on pain.
At least she's not at the point of screaming in pain.
I prepare a new IV bag of pain medication, wondering if we should expect J.R. to have an accident again.
"You think we should convince her to have a catheter placed?" Drift whispers.
"I don't know; she needs to move around as her ribs heal. The challenge is keeping on top of pain management."
"Go get some clothes. J.R. has said nothing, but we should be prepared."
Drift takes the IV bag as I leave the room.
With some of J.R.'s clothes hidden in my pockets, I headed to Jayce's room. I stopped by Jayce's room. She's still asleep, but for now long? I worry she will not like I'm not there when she wakes up, but J.R. needs my attention right now.
Drift is trying to distract J.R. from her pain, allowing me to put the clothes I got in a cabinet.
Four hours later, we get J.R. to the couch so we can all watch a movie. I just started a new infusion so she shouldn't be in pain as we watch the movie. Drift, and I help her to the couch before everyone else joins us. At least she's able to get off oxygen; hopefully, she doesn't need it again. Jayce and Bee came soon after we got J.R. settled.
"I'm sorry," Jayce apologizes as she hugs J.R.
"Will you stop? I'm ok, and we'll get through this."
I waited for Jayce to run upstairs, but she stayed. I sat next to her, and Drift sat next to J.R. Jamie joins us soon after, sitting in Drift's lap.
"You going to take a break tomorrow? I'm bored while you're recording," Drift sulks.
"Fine," Jamie sulks but smiles.
Drift kisses her forehead before hugging her.
The closest to romantic Jamie will get for now.
Do you see she's happy, Jayce? You should know how happy Drift makes her.
The others join us five minutes later. I'm watching the movie and J.R., though she shouldn't end up in pain for a few hours. At least we'll have a good three hours, but I'm hoping I can stay on top of J.R.'s pain. As far as I know, she doesn't know she had an accident or how Drift and I had to bathe and change her.
J.R. POV
What's it going to take to realize Jamie is ok, Jayce? You know how happy Drift makes Jamie.
Along with wondering what Jayce needs to start recovering, I'm thinking how shitty tonight is going to be.
Two hours pass before the pain starts. I don't want to kill the fun even though I know what I'll be dealing with later.
Jamie ended up falling asleep by the end of the movie. Good, I don't have to worry about her seeing this, but I'd rather Jayce not see how much pain I'm in.
"You're in pain again, a lot of pain," Jayce observes.
"Why didn't you say anything? Jamie knows you're dealing with pain; it's no secret. Now it's going to hurt as I carry you to the medbay," Crosshairs sighs.
Here or the medbay, the pain will worsen while waiting for the pain medication to kick in. Crosshairs detaches the IV line from my IV.
"Jayce, go to your room," he instructs.
"I've heard her scream before, and I want to help."
"The door is closed," Hound informs us.
"Fine, Jayce. One...two...three."
He picks me up; I tilted my head back a little and screamed. I'm not sure how to describe the pain. A Decepticon stepping on me?
Crosshairs didn't bother walking slowly; instead, I think he ran into the medbay and laid me on the bed. I feel like I can't stay still, but moving makes the pain worse.
"You want us to use sleep aid?" Jayce asks.
"No," I replied while moving my head left and right and kicking my legs. This isn't helping at all, but I keep doing this anyway. Drift walks in two minutes later before I end up throwing up and choking on my vomit, causing Jayce to panic.
Hound POV
I rushed to get water from the sink, sit J.R. up, and have her drink the water. Jayce is still frightened. I'm not sure if it's her mental state, or this isn't good. Drift put J.R. on the monitor as she's coughing. Thirty seconds pass before he puts her in oxygen.
So this isn't good.
Soon after Drift finished putting J.R. on oxygen, Cade walks in. Crosshairs informs him what has happened before Cade listens to J.R.'s lungs. Drift has to hold her up as he's doing this. Crosshairs is distracted, waiting to hear what Cade has to say to start pain medication infusion.
"I want to do an x-ray," Cade tells us.
This terrifies Jayce.
J.R. squeezes Drift's hand as he laid her at a 45° angle. I can tell from his face she squeezed hard. J.R. is in too much pain to realize what she's done.
"Everything looks good," Cade says, looking at the x-ray, "you need to stop waiting until you're in excruciating pain to get medicine, J.R."
With that, Cade leaves the room. Crosshairs finally starts the infusion and helps Drift comfort J.R.
"I can't deal with this for eight weeks," Jayce whispers to me. I take her hand. We leave the room and go upstairs to her room. I'm able to get her to do something to distract her though I doubt she's distracted 100%
Crosshairs POV
Do you understand what you're doing, J.R.? You're adding more for us to take care of if you don't tell us your pain is coming back.
While I was getting the IV ready, I prepared a syringe with a sleep aid. More prepared for if J.R. has an accident but also if she's in too much pain. Twenty minutes pass before Drift, and I decide she's had enough. It's still going to be forty minutes before the pain medication kicks in. As I walk back to the bed, I watch J.R.'s light grey pants become darker in that area. I'm a little concerned this isn't just distracted by pain to realize she had to go to the bathroom. She still seems unaware of what she just did.
"You can't tolerate the pain for another forty minutes, time for bed," I say as inject the drug,
"I think we're going to have to put a catheter in. Even if she doesn't need to go to the bathroom often in a day," Drift comments. I can tell he doesn't want to do this, but we hate seeing how J.R. ends up in excruciating pain. We'd have to bathe and change Jamie if she was going through a flare-up. I locked the door before we took care of J.R.
"I'm staying here," Drift tells me, "she's too much work for one of us. You know Bee us staying in Jamie's room."
"Just another challenge. How long before she apologizes for needing all this care?" I sigh, looking at J.R.
"Both Jayce and J.R. know we're exhausted and want us to give up on them."
"At least we're not lack of sleep exhausted."
Jayce runs into the room two minutes later. Seeing J.R. asleep scared her.
"She's asleep," Drift tells her.
"What happened?" She fretted, pointing to the pile of dirty clothes
"Don't tell her, but the pain distracted her, and she peed herself," I tell her before picking her up. She wrapped her arms around my neck and started crying. Drift stands up and motions for me to walk out of the room. I know he'll follow me. We went to Jayce's room and sat on the bed. She's going through another uncountable crying episode.
"Let her cry for a bit," Drift tells me, "I'm going to get some things."
He gets up and leaves the room.
"Calm down, everything is ok," I say while rubbing Jayce's back.
Drift comes back ten minutes later with water and a syringe. He puts the syringe in the desk and grabs the tissues' box before sitting in the bed and putting the water bottle on the floor. Drift pulls out a tissue from the box.
"Everything will be ok," he assures Jayce as he wiped the tears from her eyes though she's still crying. It's not long before she's coughing, we're able to get her to drink some water, and Drift wipes her eyes again.
"It's ok, J.R. isn't getting worse, it's not something serious like you're thinking. She's in a lot of pain and ends up urinating," I explain to her. She's starting to calm down, and I can lay her in bed. Drift lays on the bed with her. Jayce rolls to her side, and Drift hugs her.
"I don't think she's thinking about J.R. having other problems. Instead, she's thinking about what she did to put J.R. in this position."
"Go," Drift instructs me, "she's going to be a while."
He wouldn't tell me to leave if he didn't think he could handle Jayce by himself. I do as he instructed though J.R. will be asleep all night.
Please let these two girls recover.
