In space all that had transpired before was a flash-forward. The Typhoon emerged from hyperspace to see a spaceship being pursued by Metarex Fighters.
On the b ridge.
"More Metarex!" Cream said.
"Chao-chao!" Cheese said.
"Somebody's in trouble!" Sonic said and they watched the screen as the spaceship nimbly dodged the fighters.
"We're getting a signal. There's a Chaos Emerald somewhere on board that craft." Chris said.
"They're in great danger! If what Chris says is true, then those Metarex will stop at nothing to get what they want. We must help them!" Cosmo said.
Tails looked up.
"She's right. What do you say, Chris?" Sonic said.
Chris nodded.
"Okay." Chris said.
"As captain, I hereby veto that plan. We have our safety to think about." Tails said.
But Sonic and Chris were already gone.
"Later, kids!" Sonic said.
"Looks like we're too late, Tails." Cream said.
"Chao!" Cheese said.
Tails looked up in surprise before sighing.
"Why do they even bother having a captain anyway?" he said.
In space Chris took off in his spaceship with Sonic on his wing.
"We'll be on that mystery ship in no time." Sonic said.
"Hope they're okay out there." Chris said.
They could see the other spaceship dodging lasers in a wild manner.
"Man, they really got that thing surrounded!" Sonic said.
Then he saw one time he, Sonia, Manic and Cyrus were surrounded by Swat-Bots when they were going to check with them for something.
"Yeah. You're right. Looks pretty bad." Chris said.
The other spaceship's robot pilot wiped its brow. Sonic launched himself toward the Metarex Fighters, destroying most of them, before chasing the blue spaceship.
"Missile launch!" Chris said and fired a rocket at the last Metarex Fighter.
"Good shot!" Sonic said.
The other spaceship teleported away.
On the Blue Typhoon Master Emerald chamber Tails was trying to restore the Master Emerald's shape when Cosmo approached with a tray containing a teapot and a cup.
"Hiya, Tails." Cosmo said.
Tails turned around.
"Hey, how you doing, Cosmo?" he asked.
"You hungry?" she asked.
"I'm sorry, but I just don't have time. This modification job's a real pain. I told Chris I'd modify the energy sequencer and reconnect it to the Master Emerald with a stronger magnetic field. But if I do that, the frequencies will get out of whack. I suppose I could bypass them by going directly through the-" he started but Cosmo looked confused. "Sorry about that. I didn't mean to get all geeky on you again."
"Aw, don't apologize. After all, you can't help it if you're the smartest guy around."
Tails laughed.
"Tails! Come up here right away! You've gotta see this!" Chris said on the radio.
He immediately became serious.
In space the Blue Typhoon emerged from hyperspace. There was a whirlpool full of plasma energy near them. They flew toward the whirlpool.
On the Bridge.
"Look at all that energy swirling around." Chris said.
"I don't like this. I have a feeling if we go any further, we might never come out!" Tails said.
"I'm with Tails." Cream said scared.
"Chao chao..." Cheese said.
Then a screen appeared, showing the blue ship inside the whirlpool.
"But we just can't give up on them now!" Cosmo said.
"Okay, I'm gonna chance it. We're goin' in." Tails said.
They flew forward. Suddenly it was struck by a plasma burst, but its shields protect it.
"I may be able to drag it out of there. Activate Tyhoon claw and nice and slow." he said.
"Roger!" Chris said and pressed two buttons, and a claw reached for the blue spaceship.
However, a claw extended from the ship and snipped the claw off.
"That was easier than I thought." Robot Pilot said and removed his helmet to reveal that it was Decoe in disguise.
He flashed a V at the Typhoon crew.
"Sorry to have to cut you off, kids!" Decoe said.
"It's Decoe!" Chris said on voiceover.
Decoe flew away, back in the direction the Typhoon came from.
"Correction: That was Decoe." Amy said her hands on her hips.
"Maybe he doesn't want our help after all." Cream said.
Then a whole fleet of Metarex Fighters emerged from out of the sides of the whirlpool.
"The Metarex! It's a trap! Hang on, everybody; I'm gonna do a fast 180!" Tails said.
The Typhoon turned completely around.
"Be careful, Tails." Chris said.
They were surprised to see a battleship floating amongst the Metarex ships. The Eggman logo was unmistakable.
"Eggman! I should've known he'd join forces with them!" Sonic said.
'This is gonna be a Robotnik, Sleet and Dingo repeat.' he thought shaking his head a little.
On the Metarex Mothership Eggman slowly floated out of a lit background into the command room in his Eggmobile. Bokkun was with him, saluting.
"All hail his honorary Metarex, Dr. Eggman!" Bokkun said and the door closed behind him.
"Well, Black Narcissus? What have you got to say? Don't I at least get a thank you? After all, it was I who lured Team Sonic into your galactic web." Eggman said.
"Not the most difficult of achievements. You will learn, Eggman, that I am not given to displays of gratitude." Black Narcissus said.
"Well, just so you know, they wouldn't be here if it wasn't for my finely-honed genius for deception! And there are more tricks where that came from, just so long as I'm compensated."
"Don't worry, Doctor. You will be."
Eggman looked at his watch. It was 6:09.
"It's past 1800 hours. Let's do this, boys! Launch Operation Swarm immediately! " Eggman said.
"Who does that rotund wretch think he is anyway?" Yellow Zelkova said.
"Now calm down, Zelkova. Remember it was thanks to Eggman's technical know-how that we were able to plan this operation in the first place. In addition, the master has ordered us to go along with anything the doctor says." Pale Bayleaf said.
"You can't be serious! He's nothing but a fool!"
The Eggmobile was zipping around the room.
"We're gonna conquer Sonic! We're gonna conquer Sonic!" Eggman said.
"Attention Metarex fighter squad! The great doctor has spoken!" Bayleaf said.
On the Crimson Egg.
"You would think the doctor would show just an ounce of decorum, wouldn't you?" Bocoe said.
"What do you mean? He is the picture of calm." Decoe said.
"How can you call that calm? Just look at him!"
They continued to watch Eggman excitedly bounce around the room.
"Go Eggman! Go Eggman! Go! Go! Go Eggman! Yeah!" Eggman and Bokkun said.
"I suppose you're right. He could chill out a bit." Decoe said.
"Goooo Metarex!" Bokkun said.
Decoe and Bocoe looked sadly at each other. The white Chaos Emerald rested on the console.
In space the Metarex fleet bearded down upon the Blue Typhoon.
On the Blue Typhoon bridge.
"They're closin' in, Tails." Sonic said.
"What do we do? We can't turn around, and if we don't, we'll head straight into that black hole! Either way, we're in danger!" Cream said.
"Okay, I say we forge ahead and fight as hard as we can. Typhoon Tornadoes, let's move out!" Tails said and Amy stood up and turned to him.
"Typhoon Tornadoes?" she said.
"It's our new team name."
"You couldn't think of anything better than Typhoon Tornadoes? The whole "Tornado" thing is so cliché." Amy said.
"Think maybe we could argue about this later, Amy?" Tails asked frustrated.
In space Chris flew his fighter out into battle and Sonic rode on the wing.
"Let's go get 'em!" Sonic said.
Chris' spaceship, Amy's spaceship, and a new spaceship for Cream flew toward the Metarex fleet.
In space.
"Ready to launch nitro blasters!" Chris said and fired a new pair of shoes onto Sonic.
A ball of pure energy appeared on one of his shoes.
"Let's kick it!" Sonic said and kicked the energy ball into three Metarex ships. "That's three points for three ships!" he said and another energy ball appeared.
On the Metarex Mothership.
"Well, that's inconvenient. Now onto Plan B. Of course, I haven't exactly formulated a Plan B..." Eggman said.
"Have no fear, Doctor. You see, I have a Plan B of my own in store." Bayleaf said his eyes glow yellow as he pressed a button.
"As do I." Narcissus said and also pressed the button.
"What?! ... Uh... Well, so do I!" Zelkova said and smashed a console.
In space all the spaceships fire at once. Amy dodged the lasers skillfully. Sonic and Chris set up the Metarex fighters to shoot down some of the other Metarex ships. Cream dodged a Metarex ship which accidentally hits another Metarex ship, whose particles crashed into some of the other ships. They regroup and headed back to the Typhoon. Chris realized that the Metarex ships were actually attacking each other.
"They're blasting their own fighter planes, Sonic!" Chris said.
On the Metarex Mothership Eggman and Bokkun watched the proceedings.
"Can you believe it, Doctor?" Bokkun asked.
"And I thought I was a meanie..." Eggman said.
On the Blue Typhoon bridge several lasers struck the gradually weakening shield.
"The shield's not working. They're too strong for us!" Cosmo said.
Knuckles appeared on the screen.
"They're firing at anything they can! I think we should retreat fast!" he said over the video.
Cream also appeared on another screen.
"But we can't turn back! We've come too far!" she said over the video.
Then her screen vanished.
"What do you say, Tails? Do we fight?" Knuckles asked over the radio.
The ship continued to shake from the impacts.
"We'll use the Power Cannon. The best thing to do is to aim directly at the mothership." Tails said.
In space the Sonic Driver was activated as Chris flew toward it.
"Okay, Tails!" Chris said.
On the Bridge.
"Ready, Cream? Let's give 'em all we got!" Tails said and the targeting computers locked on to the Metarex Mothership. "Target lock... on!"
In space.
"Okay, Sonic, get ready!" he said and started his spin as the lasers continued to pummel the Typhoon.
On the bridge.
"Prepare Power Cannon! Okay, fire!" he said.
In space the Sonic Driver charged energy and fires Sonic at the Metarex Mothership.
On the Metarex Mothership.
"Let's have some fun. Star shield up!" Eggman said and pressed a button.
In space seven spaceship flew out of the sides of the tunnel and connect energy beams to form an energy net. Sonic flew directly into it.
"Sonic!" Chris said.
On the Blue Typhoon Engine room the energy from the net was channeled into the Master Emerald.
"Hang on!" Knuckles said and tried to touch the controls, but was electrocuted and the console exploded.
The Blue Typhoon bridge.
"Oh no! Sonic got zapped out there! What have I done...?" Tails said.
Later in the Infirmary Amy was tending to the injured Sonic and Knuckles.
On the bridge.
"That blast sure did do some damage to the main engine, but I think we'll be okay just as long as we can keep it under a certain speed. We have to conserve whatever energy we've got until we can recharge that Master Emerald, okay, Tails!" Chris said and saw Tails on his hands and knees, in a state of shock. "Tails?" he said and Tails snapped to attention. "You doin' okay?"
"Uh, yeah. I'm okay, Chris." he said.
The Metarex Mothership.
The three generals watch the Typhoon approaching the energy net.
"That floating playground of theirs is still chugging along. Quite impressive." Narcissus said.
"Perhaps, but not for long. The star shield will deactivate within five minutes. We will then launch a full-scale attack against them." Bayleaf said.
In space all cannons were locked on to the Blue Typhoon.
On the Blue Typhoon bridge a "DANGER" appeared on Cream's screen.
"Oh no! We're getting a danger signal! What now?" Cream said.
"I'm not so sure the Typhoon can make it through another attack, Tails! " Chris said.
Everyone looked at each other worriedly.
"I... I'm not worthy to be captain! I'm just not!" Tails said.
In a fit of anger and frustration, he flew to the bridge.
"Tails, come back!" Cosmo said.
On the Crimson Egg Eggman and Bokkun return to the Crimson Egg.
"I'm back~!" Eggman said.
"Doctor! Thank goodness you are okay!" Decoe and Bocoe said.
"We were beginning to worry that something had happened." Decoe said.
"After all, those Metarex guys are pretty tough cookies." Bocoe said.
"Well, they may be tough, but they got nothing on the big boss man!" Bokkun said.
"Oh, stifle that idiotic chattering, will you?!" he said and looked up.
"This is serious..." Eggman said.
On the Blue Typhoon Cosmo finally caught up to Tails.
"Tails, please wait!" she said and he stopped.
"...How could I do something so stupid?" he asked.
"Tails, you can't blame yourself for what happened."
"It's because of me Sonic and Knuckles are hurt. Face it; I don't have the right to call myself captain of anything!"
"How can you say that, Tails? Nobody but you could be captain and you know it."
"I'm just a big failure."
She walks in front of the crestfallen Tails.
"Not in my eyes, you're not. Just think of the hundreds of times you've helped your friends when they were in trouble. I've never known anyone as brave as you."
Tails looked up.
"Really?" he said. "Just think of all the times you've saved your friends from danger. I'm proud to be under the command of such a noble captain." he said and brightened up.
On the Blue Typhoon bridge Eggman appeared on the viewscreen.
"Howdy, kid. You and your pals getting ready for the big bad showdown?" he said over the video.
"We're ready for anything you and those Metarex dish out. Just try us!" Chris said.
"...Who'd have thought such big talk could come from such a small fry? Where's our boy Sonic by the way? Nursing an aching knock, I presume? Well, while nurse Amy is bandaging that blockhead of his, here's a little bit of news for you. You have five minutes 'til that Typhoon's toast! Now if I were in your place, kid, I'd say farewell to my little friends... cause this is gonna be a blast!" Eggman said and laughed heartily as the message ended.
"Now what do we do?" Cream asked. Now what do we do?
"I don't know..." Chris said depressed.
"It's okay, gang. I got it under control!" someone said.
He looked up to see Tails and Cosmo reentering the bridge.
"We've got five minutes left, and that's five minutes to win!" Tails said.
"Tails! You're back!"
"Now let's take a look at this data and see how we can beat 'em."
"That sounds great, Tails!" Cream said.
"Chao chao chao chao!" Cheese said.
The Blue Typhoon - Bridge.
So they reanalyze the data. 3:20 remains on the clock.
"If we can somehow reverse the direction of the spin, then it's possible to create a new magnetic field, one that's a direct opposite of the first one." Tails said.
"But what if we get sucked inside of there?" Cream said.
"May be tough, but it's the only chance we've got. We'll just have to give every ounce of energy we possibly can." Chris said.
"There's just one problem we haven't thought about. In order to reverse the magnetic field, we have to use Ring Tunnel. With Sonic knocked out, there's just no way!" Tails said.
"Who you calling "knocked out"?" someone asked.
They turned to see Sonic standing there. Amy was helping him stand.
"I'm not exactly down for the count yet, Tails. When my captain needs me, nothin' is gonna stop me from givin' it all I got!" he said. "Besides, you know I do anything to help friends."
"Ha! Then let's do it, you guys!" Tails said.
In space the Tornado turned away from the wall and Chris' ship took off once again, with Sonic riding the wing.
On the Crimson Egg.
"Sonic is plotting something." Decoe said.
"I'll give them this: they sure don't give up easily." Bocoe said.
On the Metarex Mothership Pale Bayleaf looked on with interest.
On the Blue Typhoon bridge.
"I checked the Master Emerald, Tails. It's stable!" Cream said.
"Great! Keep your eye on it. Emerald stabilized! Chris, we're ready when you are. Go ahead and activate Ring Tunnel!" Tails said.
In space.
"Aye-aye! Ring Tunnel!" Chris said and fired a tunnel of energy at the energy wall.
Sonic used his jet shoes to spiral through the tunnel.
On the Crimson Egg.
"Starshield deactivating in five... four... three... two... one..." Decoe said.
In space Sonic was launched into the opposing wall of energy as the first energy wall faded away, revealing the Metarex fleet. Suddenly the other wall of energy unleashed a powerful wave of energy at the Metarex ships.
On the Blue Typhoon bridge.
"...Nothing's happening, Tails!" Amy said.
"Now I'm scared..." Cream said.
"Chao..." Cheese said.
Tails showed concern, then closed his eyes.
"This is gonna work... After all, I'm a captain." he said to himself.
Sonic was electrocuted by the wall of energy before he was ejected out.
"Sonic, no!" Chris said and flew out to retrieve the unconscious Sonic then opened his cockpit, ready to catch him. "Sonic, I'm here!"
On the Metarex Mothership.
"What are you waiting for, you imbeciles? The enemy has broken through! Fire! Fire!" Bayleaf said.
In space all Metarex ships open fire on the Blue Typhoon.
On the Blue Typhoon bridge.
"The fire bombs are heading right toward us! Thousands of them!" Cream said and the missiles bear down on the ship. "Less than thirty seconds 'til they hit!"
Cosmo looks depressed.
"Tails, what now?" Amy asked despaired but Tails didn't respond for a little while.
Tails didn't respond for a little while.
"A good captain always believes in himself. They're counting on you, Tails!" he said to himself then his eyes snapped open with determination. "Stick it, Tails. Concentrate."
On the Metarex Mothership the Metarex generaled wonder what Tails and his crew will do now.
In space Chris and Sonic landde back on the ship.
On the Blue Typhoon bridge.
"Okay, let's bring her in slow and steady, gang! Now hang on real tight!" Tails said.
The sparking plasma energy in the tunnel affected the Master Emerald.
"We're losing engine power, Tails!" Amy said.
"It's the Master Emerald!"
As the alarms went off, Knuckles hobbled toward the engine room. He had dropped his crutch.
"I... gotta get... to the Master Emerald!" Knuckles said. "I have to help Sonic and Tails like I always do."
On the bridge.
"Let this work PLEASE!" Tails said.
The missiles are dangerously close to the ship now.
Amy screamed as the energy wall fired a massive burst of energy.
In the Master Emerald chamber Knuckles finally reached the Master Emerald.
"The seven Chaos Emeralds are the servers... Chaos is the power... Chaos is the power enriched by the heart!" Knuckles said.
The Blue Typhoon - Bridge.
Power was restored to the Typhoon.
In space.
With full power, the Typhoon flew into the energy field. It was quickly enveloped by the raw power of the field, which projected it energy toward the Metarex ships.
On the Metarex Mothership.
"How can this happen?! Unacceptable!" Bayleaf said as he realized what happened.
On the Crimson Egg.
"Let's vamoose behind the mothership! That baby's about to blow!" Eggman said.
In space the energy wave destroyed all the Metarex ships except for the Metarex Mothership and the Crimson Egg. The energy field and the vortex vanish, and the Typhoon now flew into open space.
In the Blue Typhoon bridge.
"We did iiiiiit!" Tails said and they all smiled broadly.
In the Master Emerald chamber Knuckles was unconscious.
Later Sonic and Knuckles were back in the infirmary and Tails was with them.
"I just... wanted to tell you guys how sorry I am." Tails said.
"Sorry? If it weren't for you, none of us would be here. Thanks, buddy." Knuckles said.
"Yeah, thanks, pal! I mean "captain"!" Sonic said and winced for a second.
"Thanks, you guys. You're the best!" Tails said and the Blue Typhoon cruised onward.
