I HAVE RETURNED! lol. It's definitely been awhile since I've updated but I'm back and ready to work. My vacation was really troublesome because I really wanted to write but had no ideas of how to proceed from my last chapter.
Now though, I've got a general idea of how to bring us to the end of this story. I can't wait.
It was gone...no he was gone. Blake rolled over the bed trying to find the man who always acted as her pillow through the night. After spreading her limbs over the entirety of the bed she came to the unfortunate conclusion that jaune wasn't where he was supposed to be.
Her eye's cracked open first before she pushed herself into a sitting position. The room was the same as always and it took her a second to remember the event's of the night before. Blake did the best she could to calm her bed hair but after trying for two minutes and failing spectacular she decided to get out of bed to go to the bathroom.
She looked herself in the mirror to see what she was working with and made the necessary adjustments to her hair before grabbing one of the toothbrushes out of the red plastic cup. Morning cleaning sucked as it always did, starting with teeth brushing to cold water in the face for waking her up. Once all that was taken care of, it was time to head downstairs to see who else was awake and maybe find her blonde partner while she was at it.
Blake didn't find jaune like she thought she would but she did have a pretty good idea of where he was. When she reached the club's dance floor she looked out over the club to see many of juniors men sitting with plates filled with eggs, sausages, bacon and toasts. Others sometimes had things like pancakes or omelettes.
The stools at the bar were free, mostly because nobody wanted to sit next to the malachite sisters in the morning. All except junior of course. With the two sisters on one side of junior, blake took the opposite side and nodded to the elder man when he looked over to see her.
Blake looked at the elder man's face for a brief second before looking down at the bar "what did I miss"? The elder man scowled at the bar "a lot". A small smile spread across her face cause she knew that when it came to jaune and his secrets there was never just a little.
Nobody had a chance to say anything more when jaune rushed out of the kitchen with a large plate carrying a T-bone steak with eggs in one hand and two containers in the other. The plate was placed in front of junior before the blonde moved over to blake "give me a moment to get dressed and we'll go" he said before placing the two containers in front of her. Jaune slid out from behind the bar and removed his apron while on the move.
Blake took her eye's off the blonde and looked at the containers in front of her. It didn't take long for curiosity to get the better of her so she popped one of the lids opened and took a look at the contents inside. Her smile grew wider before she closed the lid. Adam never cooked for her like this and he definitely wouldn't have rubbed her feet when she asked.
Jaune came back a moment later with a smile on his face "ready to go"? Blake pushed herself off the stool and handed jaune one of the containers. He accepted it but froze when blake gave him a quick peck on his cheek. His hand touched the spot she kissed and he blushed lightly "what was that for" he asked. The question earned him a smirk from the cat faunus before she turned away and headed to the door "for you being you I suppose".
Jaune smiled sheepishly as he followed after her "then I'm glad to be me". Junior watched the two leave the club before turning to his food "teenagers" he grumbled with a shake of his head.

Beacon Academy
"Your sure you don't want me to ask her"?
Saphron looked up from between her hands to her quickly growing and annoying adopted sister "yes yang I'm sure". The young blonde wasn't convinced "I'm just saying, maybe her semblance is why you suffered such a horrible defeat and if we ask, she might just tell us what hers is". Yangs wording earned her a fierce glare from the elder blonde.
"It doesn't matter if it was her semblance or not. The fact I lost at all to someone not even associated with a huntsmen academy is just humiliating".
Yang heard that, surprisingly enough almost everyone thought saphron was going to win since she was in a upper grade and said to be the best in shade academy. To see her elder sibling practically crushed in a fight was - in a word - shocking. Being the strongest in vacoa's academy wasn't something anyone could claim to be, you had to earn it by proving to be the best in just about everything.
Yangs eyes traveled to vernal and the people she surrounded herself with. The group sat near the front with vernal in the center with ren and nora on her left and right sides. She didn't know exactly who vernal was and nora wasn't exactly keen on telling her. But from what she could gather it appeared there was something between saph and her that led to her sis calling vernal to the ring for a fight.
"Looks like we missed the start of miss goodwitch's class" jaune said as he and blake took a seat next to their teams. The second he sat down yang threw herself at him "about time you showed up" she said happily. From a few feet away blake glared down at yang for the PDA she was showing to her boyfriend.
To her surprise and yangs, jaune held her off with both arm's. There was a complex looked on his face for a moment before he pulled yang into a hug. Blake's cat ears flattened against her head and a slight hiss escape her lips, causing ruby to lean away in fear. A moment later and yang leaned back with wide eye's as she stared at her fellow blonde.
Yangs head swiveled so she was facing blake before turning back to him. There was something blake missed when he hugged yang, and that was when he'd whispered into her ear about his decision to be with blake instead of her. Jaune did so so she wouldn't have to face the pitying gazes and laughter of those around her if he had said it out loud for everyone to hear.
Yangs eyes looked down when jaune whispered he was sorry. In her mind she didn't understand...no, it wasn't that she couldn't understand, it just didn't seem fair that all of a sudden jaune chose blake without even giving her a second thought. Many people handled rejection differently, some cried while others tried to play it off like it was no big deal. Then there were the few who grew angry and that was just what yang did.
Her eye's turned from violet to scarlet when she blinked. She just wanted to give him a face full of her knuckles but held back, knowing she'd get in serious trouble if she did. Yang closed her eyes and let out a deep breath before turning to saphron "switch seats with me" she said. Saphron didn't know what was going on but agreed none the less with her adopted sisters request.
Jaune wanted nothing more then to reach out and stop her from leaving but at this point anything he'd say wouldn't matter much until yang came to terms with how things turned out. Saphron plopped down in the seat next to him and spared him a wary eye. "What did you do now" she asked after a moment.
"Nothing"
"Jaune, people don't get angry over nothing...well unless their stupid. But yang isn't like that so spill".
Jaune thought about refusing but remembered this was his sister of all people. If anyone was more stubborn then yang it'd be her and she wouldn't quit until she got an answer. "It's relationship stuff, you know...personal".
An arm wrapped around jaunes neck and pulled him into his sisters side. He struggled to push her away but saphron had a lot more strength then he realized as she continued her hold with one arm. Eventually jaune gave up and allowed his sister to do as she pleased.
Saphron leaned over so the side of her head rested on his "jaune you know I love you right"?
"Yeah"?
"And you know I love yang as well, right"?
Jaune could feel saphrons arm tighten slightly "she like a sister to you, so I'm kinda aware". Saphron smiled gently "that's right, and I hate seeing my baby sis unhappy so you kinda put me in an awkward situation here because I love you both". He knew what she was getting at and he also knew if the situation was reversed she'd do the same for him with yang.
"Alright but you gotta let go of me cause this is getting kinda weird for me" he said, trying once again to push her off. Saphron chuckled before letting him go. The two separated and jaune explained his decision to be with blake instead of yang. He explained how a friend convinced him to stop and commit to one instead of dragging things out and hurting one or both of them.
Jaune made sure to tell her how he'd already fallen for blake before yang got into the mix and the strained relationship that came of it. He didn't blame yang for any of it and more importantly it laid out what he could've had if he felt strongly enough for her instead of blake. But with just a little time to think about it there was no doubt who he'd choose in the end.
Saphron was quite but nodded every now and then until jaune let out a little sigh when he finished. She bumped her shoulder into his and smiled warmly "I suppose that's life for you. Not everyone gets what they want and you can either let it get to you or you can find your own happiness elsewhere" she said.
"Think you can talk to her"?
Saphron nodded "yeah, just leave that part to me and we'll see if I can't break her out of her bad attitude before she starts messing up team dynamics. Or worse, starts brooding". That brought a smile to his face "thanks, if need be you can take her out for a bit to enjoy herself".
"You paying? Cause I don't exactly have a lot to my name at the moment".
Jaune rolled his eyes and pulled out a small stack of lien. Saphron's eyes widened as she took the lien from him "what kinda job are you working to make money like this"? Her fellow blonde smiled knowingly "it pays to know the right people" he said, as if that explained anything.
"So are we finally going to talk about that humiliating defeat you suffered or not"?
Saphron's eyes narrowed on her little brother "and how exactly do you know I was defeated"? Jaune smiled at his sister "well, yang did say it loud enough for everyone. So come on, who'd you lose to"? She said not a word but instead pointed to the woman jaune brought to ozpins tower that one time.
"Vernal huh" he whispered as he thought. After a few seconds a large smile spread across his face "well that's not really surprising". Saphron looked to jaune once more with a confused look on her face "hey, I'm pretty strong you know".
Jaune laughed nervously "I didn't say you weren't, it's just that with vernal you need more then just strength to win is all I'm saying". The elder blondes eyes narrowed dangerously on her little brother "are you implying that I'm dumb"? Jaune leaned away just in case "th-that's not what I meant at all". Saphron crossed her arms and waited for his explanation.
Jaune leaned forward and linked his hands together "you fighting style relies on your semblance just like yang does with hers. Juggernaut allows you to harden your aura so you can tank damage that most people couldn't. So what would happen if instead of hardening like normal your semblance softened instead"?
That was a stupid question. Obviously if her aura softened instead of hardened like normal she'd take even more damage then normal people with just basic aura control. Saphron froze a moment later as she realized that that was exactly what happened in her fight just moments ago. She took hits almost on a daily with no problem, and in the beginning of the fight she tanked one of vernals attacks before giving one of her own. So why did she lose then?
"Figured it out huh"?
Saphron nodded "I did but I still don't entirely understand how she could make my aura do something like that". Jaune smiled "it's her semblance". The elder blonde looked surprised "so what? Did she cancel my semblance with her own"? Jaune shook his head "no, her semblance is called reverse because she can reverse the effects of anyone's semblance to do the opposite".
Saphron looked down at her hand in fear all of a sudden "so I'm stuck like this"? Jaune laughed at her words "Don't worry sis it's only temporary, after all a semblance comes from the soul and vernals not exactly strong enough to change a person's soul". The elder blonde let out a sigh of relief as she slumped forward "okay, you said it takes more then strength to win right? So then tell me what's needed".
"I already gave it to you" jaune said which only brought a confused look to saphrons face. He rolled his before proceeding to explain "understanding". Saphron waited for him to continue but when he didn't she punched him in the arm. "Ow, what was that for" jaune asked as he rubbed his arm.
"For being a smart ass obviously. If understanding was all I needed I would have won my fight when I realized I was taking more damage then normal. Try saying something useful and not something that ozpin himself would say".
"Fine" he said after a moment of rubbing the spot she hit "what I meant by understanding is the effect of reverse itself. Reverse turns a semblance to it's opposite so people like you and yang, who rely on it mid fight can't change how you normally fight on the fly. So what happens if the effect of one's semblance is dangerous to themselves all of a sudden? Nothing. They'll continue to fight as they normally do and they'll natural use there semblance regardless of the danger".
"So then what? Everyone's going to fight her with a giant handicap"?
Jaune shook his head "your missing the point. Her ability reverses a semblance but it's not under her control what that semblance becomes after. If you understand what her semblance can do you just have to find the right person who doesn't fight like you. Take me for example, my semblance allows me to boost and restore aura but if you reverse it it weakens and devours aura instead".
That honestly surprised her quite a bit. "And because you don't fight along side your semblance like we do it gives you the option to use it when you want, even if it changes".
Jaune smiled "bingo. The only way for you to actually beat her would be to learn how not to use your semblance in the middle of a fight". "That's impossible" Saphron thought to herself.
As she continued to ponder vernals semblance, her mind began to wander back to ozpins office. After what she learned and how she acted it was nice to be able to talk with her brother normally once more. But in her mind questions continued to form about jaunes loyalties and what he would do if salem pit him against them for what she wanted.
In a way she'd like to believe her brother would never become their enemy because he loved them. On the other hand, jaune also loved the very people they were apparently fighting against so how would this be any different? She couldn't even believe that he wouldn't attack her when he obviously doesn't even care about his own flesh and blood.
Salem had killed their family, the innocent neighbors and even the children without out mercy. Yet he would stand by her side and claim she wasn't a monster despite the damning evidence. She hated that she could doubt him so, but with more then her life in the balance she needed to hear his reasoning or she'd always wonder when or if he might turn.
Saphron looked around to make sure no one was listening in before she nudged jaunes side with her elbow. Her fellow blonde leaned towards her so he could hear what she had to say. "Jaune can I ask you something about...your mother" she asked nervously.
Jaunes eyes narrowed slightly and his facial expression took a serious turn "that depends on what your asking". Saphron understood and proceeded with her question "you know what she did to the people of Ansel, to our family. How can you not blame her for what she's done"?
Jaune let out a sigh and slumped forward slightly "I did blame her" he started. "I also grew to hate her for what she did...but then she showed me what happened between them...her and our father".
"She showed you"?!
Jaune nodded "she showed me everything from the deal, to dad's decision to save summer and even the destruction of ansel, along with all the gruesome bits in the middle. At first I was disgusted with it...but after the initial shock I discovered I wasn't really angry at all". A lopsided smile formed on his lips in the moment "and that's mostly because our father chose to throw my life away like I didn't even matter".
Saphron's eyes widened in shock "that's a lie"!
Jaunes face turned to a blank expression as if all emotion was drained from him when he spoke "if it was then why weren't you there with the rest of us"?
"I was at-"
"Raven and Tai's place, I know" jaune finished for her. "But don't you find it odd that even though our father knew salem was coming for us he did nothing to get the rest of us somewhere safe but was willing to place his friends in danger by giving you to them? Then again with as many family members we had you could forget about one amidst the chaos of a Grimm attack".
"Mr arc I'm pleased you found time in your busy schedule to attend my class" Glynda called from ringside. Jaune shrunk a little in his seat "crap, she gonna choose me again isn't she"? Saphron didn't say anything as jaune was called to the ring along with pyrrha for their own spar.
There was a lot to process, starting with vernal and her semblance.
Jaunes words rattled in her mind and she couldn't help but think of all the people she knew who might be able to fight the brunette if needed. Surfficet to say there wasn't many who could, or at least not without knowing what the opposite of each of their semblances was.
Then there was the bit about her father that couldn't go ignored no matter how hard she tried. Was it really possible that her father could do such a thing as sacrificing her family so she could escape? There was no answers, only more questions.
It was then that a thought clicked in her mind. No, there was someone with answers who was still around...Raven herself.
New knowledge of this universes people is always fun to make. And with Saphron learning more and more about what transpired in her families past, what will her overall decision become?
