The Bonds Of Friends And Family-Stargate SG-1 Season 2
Warnings: This is going to cover the time between the stand off to when they return to the mission, as things change that year the bonds between the team grow even stronger. But this is going to tie into my Star Trek series, that is matched to the second attempt to fix the past to make a better future.
But this is not going to be a crossover story, though the grandparents of the TNG characters are involved in the story. So sharing the same title as the TNG stories in my other storyline, this side of the storyline is focused on SG-1, as it connects his future to Atlantis, as he and Teal'C join the Atlantis contingent.
However this is going to show the entire connection leaking this portion of the storyline to The Next Generation, as what was mentioned in season four is now happening in the present during season. But this is going to be a reset at the end of this episode, and before the mission that has them getting captured by Hathor.
The story once the time-line resets is going to be set in 1956 and move forward from there as past actions are erased and bonds are made deeper right now. As Daniel is growing up in the program, before the entire team, aside from Teal'C is going to be together, and he rejoins the team in Children of the Gods after that.
And he becomes the military leader of the Atlantis settlement, as he starts a new life there. As everything from the two time frames has ended up in their heads, as their sextet, Jacob, Landry and their fellow generals as their current selves end up in their grandchildren now as the two series come together.

Chapter 79: A New Future Revealed IV: Personality Tests And Mission Recaps
As he saw what he meant as he saw the ship that they commandeered and nodded as he saw the name of the movie and then smiled in bemusement. "Guys take a look we're in front of their holodeck and our holomovie is sold out, so we're well known." he said and they all turned around and saw it then. "We created the movie focused on your mission a few months ago and it opened last month." Sarah said to him and he nodded gently.
"Whoa, hey look out Lieutenant, get out of the way!" they heard and Daniel pulled Uhura out of the way to protect her as a car came flying by them quickly. "Alright hold it, everyone freeze." Daniel shouted out as the light went red and everyone froze. "Everyone going left and right, do it, but this lane is closed till we get this cleared." the officer snapped and the cars going in the other direction went at that remark.
"And you, pull to the side of the road now, before you cause another car accident kid, do it!" his partner snapped and as Daniel lead the crew to the sidewalk then firmly at that and the group nodded sternly at that. "So this is what you meant right now at the moment?" Hammond asked and he nodded to him. "Do it Robertson, or you're getting arrested!" Daniel snapped at him and Hammond nodded sternly in agreement.
"What's your malfunction Jackson?" he asked and Daniel crossed his arms. "My malfunction is I know better to insult a superior officer, whether they're our version or not, and did it ever occur to you, we had the crew of our version of the enterprise coming into town. At the same time I'm here today, this is not the ship based version, but the water version of the enterprise, you ass!" he snapped at him and the man paled.
"The crew is not their grand-kids, but our version you idiot, Addison and Haden sent me to intercept them and bring them to the harbor. And you nearly run them down, you nearly committed manslaughter in addition to a hit and run and insubordination charges. But your ass is getting arrested by the cops and what do you think Hammond and Carter, let alone Kerrigan, Addison and Landry are going to say."
"All branches are connected, all ranks are the same in any branch there is and I'm a first class, you're second class, and I out rank you, so attention, ten hut!" he shouted out and the man went to attention at that. "Well there's a side of you I never normally see son, but right on all counts, I hear this and he's being killed vocally, for insulting a superior officer and medical arrest." Hammond and Landry said together with a chuckle.
"You guys raised me, what do you expect, I only get like this to control my own peers or the cubs, and you know that, other times, like right now here. It's I got the respect, by never being quite so uptight." he said and Charlie wrapped his arm across his shoulders with a smile and Jack nodded smiling. "Yeah and that's why we got such an easy laid back command, we're not quite so uptight with each other, like in NID." Cromwell said and Hammond nodded.
"Well this explains why you needed to let the guy have it, you guys are the same age, but this is too much brother, and buster, he's your superior. And you're a second class, no middle ground, so watch your mouth, Robertson." Jack said with a warning tone and Hammond nodded. "Ookay, he's clearly furious, if he's letting this kid have right now, but if he knows who we are, then he knows why we're here." Dr. Leonard McCoy said to Kirk then.
"Yes and to translate that, Commander, is this is the type of reprimand I gave to the guy messing around in engineering after we got infected. And just after he locked the door, but this officer is clearly a junior officer to our version's junior grade right now, and in our eyes here. There was no middle ground, he's mouthing off to us, and Lieutenant Jackson is doing our reprimand for us right now, but their wording."
"That's slang and for a smaller version of a horse right now, he's saying if he doesn't control his temper he's being arrested for driving. And while intoxicated, insubordination and finally disturbing the peace." Kirk said to translate it then and Spock nodded to him. "You know what we are, before we could say anything and he doesn't realize we're possibly our grandparents." Captain Montgomery Scott said to that.
"That's the punch-line actually, he doesn't realize you could not be yourselves, but rather your grandparents guys." the officer said sternly and he nodded in amazement. "And Daniel is trying to get him out of this, without being arrested for it, but our boss hears this and he's a dead man. For it when they find out that he nearly caused a car accident and with it, is disturbing the peace by a load of profanity."
"That remark is he knows he's going to get arrested for drinking and driving, insubordination and accidentally hitting someone in a red light." Sarah said softly to them and they all nodded. "Robertson, did it ever occur to you, this is Captain James William T. Kirk and his crew, they were heading for Haden's command, before dropping by my base?" he asked and the man paled and Kirk smiled at the alibi at that.
"You caught me son, and I'm glad you came to see me, as I forgot my way around town, since I've been on the water for the last year." he said and Daniel nodded as he saluted him and he responded in kind. "But young man he's right on all counts at the moment, we're headed for the harbor, but we got lost." he said and the boy paled at the remark then. "Nice alibi son, that's great." Haden said with a chuckle at that remark.
"Yeah somebody's a dead man, but them or you, same thing, never insult a superior officer, or you're committing political suicide here right now." Janet said as she started laughing and Hammond and Jack both nodded in agreement as they heard the reprimand given out then sternly. "I guess you never consider why all of the senior officers our parents age consider me their star pupil here at the moment, well as to why that is, Lieutenant."
"It's because I'm the perfect student, I listen in class, I take excellent notes, but I guess you never looked at the fact here. Said is that if the crew were dropping by my base, and why, well you weren't paying attention as usual as even. Even the most bovined brained nitwit pays attention in history, as it's at times just so gross." he said and the man swallowed as Sam tried to keep from laughing at the reprimand then.
"Nice reprimand man, that's classic right now." Charlie said to him as he started laughing at that remark. "Where did we hear that from?" Frakes asked him and he smiled. "Where's the one episode that the teacher ended up dead as a result of the student turning the tables on them and Daniel just used that against John?" Sarah asked and they all started laughing. "Creep Course, that was Jones's remark to Tony!" Sam said laughing and she nodded.
"Half is Jones the other was his student, but she was right, to be the perfect student, you got to listen in class and take notes and Daniel just proved that. As he realized they were not from our century, but 300 years ahead of time." Hammond said laughing and she nodded smiling at that. "And this is a case of you should have been paying attention, you didn't and there it is." Daniel said and John paled as he realized he made the same mistake then.
That Anthony Hall made in that episode then. "Yeah that's right you should have paid attention, but you didn't, and now you get turned into a drone yourself, but this is why I'm the perfect student, I listen in class. I take excellent notes, I listen to your stupid lectures, I write down every word they say here, so I figured out a way. In how to free myself from their control, but you made the same mistake that Tony did." he said and he swallowed hard at that.
"This stuff looks like straight liquor, so with that, Morgan, if you will." he said and she nodded as a carafe appeared on the table and he took it to Hammond's office and took out a second there and two shot glasses and poured both into the glasses and came back in. "Which one is it?" he asked and putting the two on the table and NID paled as they looked between them and realized they didn't know and he nodded as he said it firmly at that.
"How do you know I didn't mix this into the real liquor?" he asked and John paled at that. "You don't and that's the scariest thing of all, but that's a what would have been if it reached all the way to the orbital defense system." he said to him sternly. "Wait a minute, you drank it too, Colonel." he said in trying to turn it around. "Did I?" he asked, smiling sternly and John felt his heart start sinking as he went to get the carafes and then said it to him then gently.
"Did you see me pour both glasses, from the very same carafe?" he asked and he felt his heart turn over at that. "No of course not, how could you, you weren't paying attention as usual." he said and John broke out in a sweat at that, realizing his ignorance could get him killed now in this reality. "But you recall what you heard in that dream and why it sounded like that right now?" he asked and they all paled at that remark and he nodded sternly at that.
"I was saying I was through with all of you, I changed and grew up, and instead of what you wanted, we decided to make sure you got nailed for it now. Janet and Jack were clones, and Sam, dad, Teal'C and I were faking it this time, so you nailed yourselves right to the wall, but you consider if they use it. That potion in ancient times, Kevin, go get it, not excavation, our equipment on the study of embalming." he said and he left the room gently at that.
"What's in that stuff in you're asking for that case?" John asked shaking and he explained that. "You ever consider that they make a movie on ancient times, that had the most very dangerous curses being used on their high priests, but as a result here, there was a matter of. Now, that you break ancient traditions in that time, committed an act, say murder of a pharaoh and with it, ignorant of traditions, and that in turns gets you executed, as the punishment."
"Said is mummification when you're still alive?" he asked and the NID all paled at his remark. "Ra is Ramses, his father is Pharaoh Seti the first, Exodus." he said and they all paled at the reveal. "So think it over, his sister saw the murder, sends their guards, and they hunt down said priest, and his punishment, in addition to said curse. Is he has to watch as they mummify his group of priests, when still alive." he said and John swallowed hard at that remark.
"But insanity came long before you died, but that's not so hard a reach as you were already close to it already, being several cards short here now. So how removing several more from the deck?" he asked and he swallowed hard at that. "But no, I'm not going to do that, instead I chose a more humane and merciful sentence for you, and it only shows that once again, I'm more strong, mentally, and emotionally here." he said and the NID paled at his remark.
"Sure I look like I don't have the strength or the will to do something like this, but then that's what makes me so dangerous, you underestimate me." he said and they swallowed hard at that. "You underestimate me, you always did, I look like I could never hurt someone, but as Sam said it here regarding now. Of the Orici, I could never hurt a child, how about the suggestion of killing Anubis's son, before he reaches full power?" he asked and they swallowed hard.
"That's the dangerous part you never consider I don't need weapons to kill you, I can use my mind, my powers to do so, think on that the next time. You even attempt this, as you just landed yourselves in the hot seat." he said and they nodded, shaking. "Carrie, I know you're worried I'm even suggesting this, but if he reaches full power, he's going to gain the power to ascend and we got another Anubis running loose." he said and Lam nodded gently to him at that.
"I know I understand, you hate him for destroying the first planet we went, as for the Orici, same thing here?" she asked and he nodded. "Yeah and it's turned into the rapture, as Vala is the Jackal and Satan is the Ori themselves." he said and she nodded. "I think you over did it, son." Hammond said as he tried to keep from laughing at that. "Nice scare tactic, Jack looks dangerous and he's not, you don't and you are." Sam said as she started laughing at that.
"Uh too late, you just scared the piss out of them." Brandon said as he started laughing and Jenny, Chris and Jason took a look at their clothes and all started laughing at that. "All of you guys get changed, you need a clean set of clothes here." Hammond said with a bemused chuckle and the quartet quickly left the room at that, and Daniel signaled to the Harper and his team and they all nodded and followed them out the door and Hammond nodded.
"Well like you said, you're not dangerous and you, but Jack looks dangerous and he's not simple catch of the book here right now at the moment here. But problem is that the ones that get in trouble too much are the immediate suspect now at the moment in this case here as to that right now. It's a matter of using that against them in this case, but I think you over did it kiddo." Saxon said to him and he nodded in agreement that remark then
"Better keep that in mind next time you try this, as you think a doctor or scientist is not dangerous, you forget who studied biology here right now. That we can kill you in a hundred ways before you can hit the ground." Saxon said sternly and Sutherland nodded in agreement. "Alright you made your point guys, and that's enough of that already." Freeman said and Sutherland nodded in agreement to that as he and Jones exchanged bemused looks then.
"I think we better tie it up, we know some never pay attention in class, but 30 years doing this as playing them, that's a lasting knowledge here. In medicine that we're going to be just as good as they are, when the time comes." Saxon said to Sutherland and he nodded. "Yeah alright that's plenty here right now, but we better keep going right now, so now that we got me and Morgan, get Dustin, because we're both Generals, Dustin is a Colonel."
"Get Dustin first, he needs to know this before we get Renee, Kevin and Cuba." Sutherland said and they nodded to that remark as a flash lit up the room and the star of their movie appeared. "Morgan, Donald what's going on here right now?" Dustin Hoffman asked and he smiled. "We all got recalled for another catch, seems that our doubles play as Daniel's parents closest friends, you're the leader of our best team." Sutherland said and he nodded smiling.
"Got worse, the reaction you gave here with the idiot technician at the bio-test lab, that's where you need to let these idiots have it right now as to why. It's because despite knowing more then he did right now, and the only thing he wanted was military intelligence, and the president gave these orders too. We were to value the science and cultural value of every mission from now, and it seems certain people don't understand code phrases here right now."
"To realize that curse in our wording translates to what?" Freeman asked and he crossed his arms. "That translates, for off planet groupings that don't understand the concept of diseases, is code for highly contagious disease here." he said and John paled at that. "And 'just for you' means that whatever it was in food was tanked, and I guess he was acting like an total idiot, and Sam had every right to throw it in his face here, and Daniel with her."
"Okay, so someone was dead from the second you told me that, if I'm my playing the leader of one of the teams in our bio-lab on the movie here now." he said and Sam nodded. "Yeah now you're dead Johnny, because if he can see it, and you can't, you're clearly not cut out for this job right now." Sam said crossing her arms. "Just wait till you do that test on Renee, Cuba and Kevin later." he said in response as he looked at Sutherland gently at that.
"So you're SGC/SGA side is your double there, you've got a change up?" he asked and Sutherland nodded to him and he nodded smiling. "Don, I'll take the job, so who's part of his team?" he asked and Claire passed him some file folders and he saw his own double and then saw the rest of his fellow cast members then gently at that. "Well guys, we're back for another rotation on this one here right now in this." he said with a chuckle as she chuckled.
"It's not Mel that you're connected to actually, it's me Dustin, in truth, you, Renee and Kevin's characters are all my closest friends from the time now. That we were kids, I knew the five of you from the time we were kids, but our grouping was based on one thing, we were scholars here now, that we do it. Based on being the best and brightest, and before starting in the military, your characters all went to college and medical school before you went into the military."
"When the kids were two, and spent the following 31 years in the military that your experience in the lab, in the military can not be matched here now. And I mean all of you in that, but we kept to our own kind, and even better and you're going to kill my father when I tell you this as well, and vocally here now. Is the old fool out of trying to prove his theory on the crystal skull nearly killed himself out of exposure to both versions of radiation here, as such now."
"Your doubles are my closest friends next to Darrel." she said and he nodded gently. "Aside from Jamie, I knew them all my life here, but both sides are actually our closest friends, you had the right idea here, in that. But trust me, there are things in this job, that border on strange to total absurdity in the job description here. But your character is a member of the stargate program version to your stint on the movie." she said and he nodded to her gently.
"So how about Tommy, John and Chris?" he asked her and she smiled. "Two of the three were part of our traveling trio, but you knew my son all his life, in fact my son had quite the connection in the Air Force medical department. So though a full bird, your personality is that of 2 to 3 start general, but 30 years working in the program, your expertise, as a medical doctor is unmatched in all your cases now here." she said and he nodded as he nodded to her.
"Uh huh, so starting a new practice, as we train to be what our characters really are, and said is a real doctor, that our medical training took a massive leap. Up the charts, that we know and knew things the kids who been in the military and medical department for only 15 to 18 years don't, so yes I see it alright. And young man, just where is your brain here, were you even paying attention to whoever in leaders you were dealing with, but if my character now."
"Said is just like me, where is the reprimand going to lead to, once Morgan, Donald, the trio and I get in here, as we all make it clear here now. That you touch him again and your records get shown right to George and Captain Frasier?" he asked and John paled at that. "Yeah I didn't think so, but your attitude in your career cost you dearly in this program, you brought this on yourself that you blew your appointments to this program and get kicked out of the base."
"Did you honestly, that Morgan, Renee, Kevin, Donald and I were going to take this lightly when we heard you disobeyed orders to come back?" he asked and he swallowed hard at that and they all nodded sternly at that. "It gets better Dustin, you remember the device that had you seeing aliens insects?" Sam asked and he nodded. "That's John not wanting to reveal he was infected and left the base without authorization." Daniel said and he crossed his arms then.
"Well I can take that as a no, so all you wanted was military technology and intelligence and when you don't get what you want here now in that area. You leave, were you aware that one cut, one scratch from whoever you came into contact with, can result in you getting infected here with whatever it is. You're now patient zero, and this is the tree of death that I meant on the movie, who started the infection and it started with the lab tech here now."
"He infects the entire town, but after getting scratched by the host in the movie now, the pet shop owner gets infected, the monkey sitting next to the host. It gets infected after eating a banana so first it's by bodily fluids, and then the protein coding changes, causing it to spread like the flu, so you get scratched. It infects first your team, then Sam, or your version of her, and then finally activates in you and Daniel arrests you." he said and John paled at that remark.
"Let me explain something to you alright, as actors we need to study our characters life, to know them, our characters inside and out here right now, in it. We study what our characters career was and in doing so, we study up on whatever profession they do, just to make it look convincing, I'm a medical doctor. A virologist in the movie, and as a result, now that's I'm playing a single character for 30 years I now know my career inside and out here right now in it."
"I play a doctor twice, so I can shove everything I got into it, and then comes the fact that, on two occasions, I'm also a full bird colonel here now as well. But I'm 20 years older then you kids, so with those words, I'm the fatherly type of medical doctor, but for us in your parents age group, and I meant it. Said it, when I said this about Patrick and his girlfriend, they were Sam and Daniel's age, so though adults, still kids in our eyes." he said and John swallowed hard.
"Yeah now you ticked him off." Sam said and he looked at her with a bemused smile and Daniel tried to keep from laughing at the look on his face. "Don't get smart young lady, though an adult, to us as your parents age group, still a cub in our eyes." he said to her and Anna started laughing at that. "Trust me, I hear that all the time with your double Dustin, but he's the same way with the smart alec responses." Warren said for all for of them and he nodded gently.
"I said that the way you phrased it Dustin, but I'm a military brat, a medical one, and the duo, your double's team and Uncle Rob had done a few bio-labs. In the case of hemorrhagic fever here now in this, that I knew the signs of an infection the second I saw them." Daniel said and he nodded sternly. "Well if he thinks our command counterparts are bad in their tempers, we're even worse son, as such right now, I hear this in the second you call me, he's dead."
"And being nailed right to the damn wall once Renee and Kevin hear this." he said to him and he nodded. "Yeah and trust me, I phrased that the way you just said it here, but I knew your doubles all my life, and Nick pissed off you guys off when he separated us. But he couldn't keep us separated here, as you found me everywhere he sent me, till I got out of the system and I've been with your doubles ever since." he said and the older man nodded gently then.
'That's this time-line, and not the next, and next is where we're making sure he gets committed before he can even think of trying this right now, okay. Well that helps now, but who does this brat think he is exactly, so let me guess you decided on making the transfer permanent now rather then in two years here?" he asked and Daniel nodded as Claire crossed her arms sternly as she answered him then as she looked at him then gently at that question then.
"Yeah he did, but it's a case of being driven so far into exhaustion he's close to ending up in a coma that the guys and I got to take drastic measures here. To prevent his from going into coma after we run the surgery right now, said is draining every bit of contaminated blood of that serum as well now here. Till our mentor and his team do the rest, but this was a case of possession and we got to go to medical exorcisms here." she said and he nodded sternly then.
"John and Ronee are playing my best friend and his wife, and Donald is the other member of our group, between the quintet here now, but to put you. And to where here in that, so said is you, Renee, Kevin and Donald, you're the ones that knew me longest, and watched my son grow up. And before, we added Morgan and Chris to the group, but you're matched to your doubles here in the program, but Rob and Dillon are my husband's best friends."
"But the seven make up the members that knew me and his father right now, chosen by appearance and personality, and you got both spot on right now." she said and he nodded. "So what the heck was the virus going to be used for here?" he asked and Daniel crossed his arms then. "In case the sextet went back on their word and with them, the quartet here." he said and he looked at the 9 sitting at the table and with them the Tok'ra leader and nodded gently.
"Well I know you would never do that, unless someone pushed you into it first, case in point is these idiots sending along a warhead in the movie." he said and they nodded. "Indeed, after Ra came me, and I decided for safety sake, is to give this warning, but your renegades are close to being made an example of." Cronos said to him and he nodded. "That I understand why right now, my lord." he said gently and the sextet nodded gently.
"There was a change of in characterization here Dustin, so we're the ones in charge, but turns out our doubles on the movie are real." Sutherland said and Dustin Hoffman nodded in shock. "McClintock was NID medical?" he asked and Sutherland nodded to him. "Nivens was me as SGA, McClintock was me as NID, but AMRIID medical doctor, we're getting training, before we play our characters, so our medical knowledge is unbeatable." he said and Dustin nodded.
"Haphazard with the job here, you're asking for trouble when our patients are our own kids or grandcubs, the cubs." he said and Sutherland nodded. "And they got an academy right below the base, that we had things getting out of control downstairs." he said and Dustin shook his head as he tried to hold it in. "God guys come on, you keep this up and you're going to scare us as your parents and grandparents into a heart attack." he said as he started laughing at that.
"Issues in this, but no matter how old you guys get, nothing ever changes here." Daniel said and they heard a slight smile in the voice of a man at that. "Thanks for the compliment cub." he said and Sam started laughing as they both turned around and saw the team arriving at that, as Daniel hugged the duo. "Doing okay son?" he asked and Daniel nodded. "Yeah, I'm alright, but this dragged up that memory again." he said and they nodded gently, but sternly.
"Joe, Jane." Claire said to them and they both turned to her and smiled as the woman hugged her tightly at that. "Missed you sis." she said and Claire smiled as she answered her. "Missed you too my sister." she said as the man next to her hugged her and she tightened her arms around him. "God I missed you, sis." he said and she smiled. "Missed you too brother, but we got a second chance to get it right." she said and he nodded gently at that remark.
"Where's the Colonel?" Jack asked and he explained that. "He's laying into Vidrine and West, before getting in here, but he's close to killing these guys for what they tried do to your brother." he said and they nodded sternly. "Not that I blame him right now, but if they thought I was bad you're even worse, with being our superiors as our parent's age group, but he wasn't joking, but the plan worked like a charm, we did it." he said and they both nodded sternly.
"They fell for the tactic we used?" Lieutenant Colonel, Doctor, Joseph Davidson asked him and he nodded. "Yeah, they were getting so cocky they never considered we swapped us, but we got them, and we're considering not giving Makepeace that second chance. So question, would you say that after 9 months of non stop, we need a 6 to 7 month respite?" Sam and they both nodded as she crossed her arms as he answered her at that question then sternly.
"That's a definite, but even we need a break from missions here right now, but just what is their deal that they don't want to give themselves a break. But young man, our bodies need rest in order to function properly here right now, and if we don't get the rest we need, we mistakes that could do damage. Or worse kill us, so if we have to call a respite for 6 months to 9, then so be it here." Davidson said to that and the younger man paled at that remark.
"I thought we said all missions were cancelled till after Easter?" she asked and Addison crossed his arms. "We did Jane, but SG-3, in trying to keep Daniel from leaving on break, over rode it, as without Daniel, their plans for their unit and George never work." he said and they both nodded. "What this also dragged up, and it's on Nick, but Daniel told them 3/4's of it, we better do the rest here." Dillon said and they both nodded as their younger peer crossed his arms.
"Wait a second you told this to me, Bill, Teal'C and the general already, Daniel." Janet said and he nodded. "As my boss and my doctors, let alone the only member of my team that never caught that virus right now." he said to her and she nodded to that. "You had a right to know this information, but there was a reason, I never told you guys this after SG-3 sabotaged us." he said and the trio and Hammond nodded to him gently at the remark then.
"And it was because you never wanted to give this idiot more ammunition to use against you right now." Sam said to that and he nodded. "I get it, and we understand, it's fine, you never wanted to give this little brat more ammunition to use against you, but we deserved to know this information. I'm your adoptive father, and we were your family now, though you were back together with them." Hammond said and Daniel nodded gently at that remark.
"That's just the problem, I'm an only child, born to two parents who were only children themselves, that I had to grow up with no other family here now. But the trio and their parents made up for that, but you have no idea how much I missed you after that first year we had together, I've never been happier. That it started caving in, but the one that he ended up at is a few hundred years old." he said and they all nodded sternly at the news in shock then.

"I came to report in, but I was involved in the program back in the 50's and it barely missed killing me, out of exhaustion here back then.
