Chapter 76 A not so normal day part 1
Eyes snapped, the black sky was all she saw. Her body was aching realizing it was covered in wounds. It hurt, the pain was too much. Even getting up was killing her as she was struggling to get to her feet. Looking around, there was nothing but destruction. Building destroyed to rubble accompanied by scorching flames. Somehow this place was familiar. It was once, a very beautiful place filled with life. Now it was all gone. She was suddenly grabbed as she gasped, it all happened so quick for her to react. Her whole body was covered by arms that were colored black with white on the hand section. The fingers and appearance wasn't human her eyes widened in shock. They were Grimm.
She did her best to break free but it was useless they were too strong. The fact she was hurt and weak wasn't helping. The Grimm hands pushed her to the ground holding her captive as she attempted to use her claw but it she couldn't, it wasn't working. What was going on, where is her strength, her power. Helpless and defenseless, there was nothing she could do. The hands have raised her as she felt a presence near her. It felt odd, dark and evil. Eyes widened at the person before her. It was impossible, how could Salem. That would explained the destruction around her. The Grimm witch didn't said a word as she made a soft movement with her hand. Her eyes were covered as the hands have crushed her body.
Velvet's eyes snapped opened as she rose from her bed, panting softly. Noticing she was in the room she was sharing with Laphicet and Cardin in Atlas Academy. She was in the bottom bed while her brother was in the top bunk. The Winchester was on the lower bunk bed on the opposite direction. The young woman removed the sweat from her forehead, giving a soft sigh. Checking the clock on her scroll, it was so early. Too early to wake up but what other choice to have. The former therion was in thought that dream again. She's been having it for a while. Around two months if she wasn't mistaken. It's been haunting her nights preventing her from going back to sleep again.
It's been like that since the dream started making it impossible to try and get more rest. Looks neither of has woken up yet, better let them sleep because they were going to need it. It was going to be another hard day at work. The past two months they've been in constant missions with the military, clearing out Grimm in the tundra outside of Mantle. While helping in gathering materials needed to finish rebuilding Amity Colosseum. So it's been a very exhausting experience. That has really bothered her, rubbing her forehead getting up from the bed. The older Crowe was wearing the official pajamas students from Atlas Academy wears. A white shirt with black pants, long gray area in the knee section, with white socks and gray on the tip. And obviously the symbol of the kingdom of Atlas on the shirt.
Checking the device again, her attention turned to the text messages. Mainly, she kept staring at the ones from Jaune. Most of the times she would barely see him. She will spent the entire day without him. Going back and forth without stopping and, he's suppose to be her boyfriend. Some couple they have turned out to be. Velvet gave a soft sigh. All the work, was starting to get her, not like they were on a field trip and just have fun. The young woman put the scroll away heading out of the dorm. Time to start the day thinking how busy it was going to get. As she left, she failed to notice that Laphicet was awake probably since she woke up. And he was looking worried.
Velvet stood in the training room of the school. She knew Atlas was high tech stuff but she never thought they will have virtual reality training fields. Holograms were a must in the kingdom this, was an improvement. One of their daily routines before taking missions. The older Crowe wanted to sigh, groan, scream. It's been like that for two months. Fulfilling their duties as Huntsmen and Huntresses. Today the Ace Ops were giving Ruby, Yang and Blake some training along with Cardin, filling out for Weiss. The Aces were following their superior's orders to prepare and sharp the young adults' skills. Preparing for future fights with Salem and her forces. Getting ready for the inevitable war.
It surprised her how well the Winchester was able to get along with the rest of RWBY. Guess two months was more than enough for him to work well with them. Or maybe because he has spent time with them since he joined them on their journey. His teamwork with the three girls has improved specially with Ruby and Yang. That mainly has to be since his mother Trisha was pregnant with the girl's fathers' child. Also, the strong friendship developed between the tall teen and the blond brawler. It was good watching him getting along and spending more time with his former classmates. The training was obviously a series of sparring matches four members minus the leader Clover.
They weren't the only teams sparring in the virtual room. On the other side, was JNPR squaring off against Team FNKI. All four members were participating as they faced the team from Beacon. Flynt Coal was blowing his trumpet at Jaune as he managed to get out of the way of it's reach. Neon Kat was busy taunting Nora, the same way she did with Yang back at the Vytal Festival. And so far, it was working as the Valkyrie was going on a rampage and the faunus was moving fast with her skates. Oscar was going toe to toe with Ivori as the young man used his whip and the farm teen successfully evaded. And Ren was taking on Kobalt as the blue haired teen was using his fists against the magenta eyed team member.
Velvet was impressed with FNKI's performance thinking they weren't skill in combat. She only witnessed Flynt and Neon fighting from the Vytal Festival. The leader was more of a musician than a fighter so anyone experienced enough can beat him. It was the same with Neo, she was more of a professional skater than fighter. Her strategy of taunting opponent is effective enough she was able to riled in Yang during the match against the members of RWBY between the brawler and Weiss. But it seems she was wrong as both the dark skinned young man and the faunus were more than they seemed. Maybe they have been training since the tournament. Kobalt and Ivori were more the fighter type since they don't use a musical instrument or roller blades when fighting.
Laphicet stood next to his sister, he was silent and in thought. He has gotten to the training and pretty much what they've been doing for the past two months. Right now, the younger Crowe was concerned for Velvet. He has been awake whenever she will rose up alarmed. It was always the same she will wake him up. A bad dream it was the only thing he could think of. Yet, he hasn't talk about it with the young woman. Guess if he does, she will just shrug it aside that it's nothing. Knowing his sister that's exactly what she will do because she was stubborn and selfless. He could tell Jaune and he will do something, her boyfriend should be enough to to fix it. Velvet will surely listen to him.
The Ace Ops resumed the sparring match as they were confident they can still take on Team RWBY. That's what they used to think before starting the training. The fight they had at Amity was clear they won by a hair even if a certain mohawk woman won't admit. The rest acknowledged it and went with Ironwood's advice learning the valuable lesson to never underestimate the opponent. Obeying their superior's orders they volunteer to help them with the training so they can become stronger. It was a necessity because they knew they were going to need all the man power available if they wanted to stand a chance against Salem. All the matches had the same results so far, the Aces will emerge victorious but, by a hair.
They were aware, the more they fought the four girls, the closer they would get to a defeat. Now it really didn't matter who would win and who would lose it was just sparring. Nothing serious as it was part of the training program. Though neither team was holding back it felt like they were having a rematch from their first bout at Amity. Of course it was different since then because Cardin was replacing the Schnee member. And even with the addition, the three girls were still formidable. The Winchester was also good and he was able to work well with them. Needless to say, if Weiss were here along with the CRDL leader it wouldn't have been more complicated for the Aces. Good thing that wasn't the case.
They have finished up after getting some good results. Still, neither team looked like they have broken a sweat. They were a bit out of aura but they can continue. The training was taking an effect on them but mainly, on RBY and the others. Velvet smiled at her students they have truly come a long way since they came to Beacon. She was so proud of them for getting stronger. The big question remains if they were ready to take on Salem. The other team was done too as JNPR and FNKI gathered. Finishing up today's training schedule.
"You guys were awesome!" spoke Neon being her usual uppity self.
"Pretty cool. It's no wonder Team BRNZ didn't stood a chance" Flynt recalled JNPR's fight with the team from Shade at the Vytal Festival.
"We're glad you guys volunteered" smiled Jaune.
"We appreciate it" followed Ren.
"I'm glad you guys took your time to spar with us" replied Oscar.
"No problem. We don't mind lending a hand" smiled Ivori.
"We've been looking forward to fight you guys ever since the Festival" said Kobalt.
The members that composes of JNR smiled, happy to hear it. They were also happy they didn't mentioned their deceased teammate. Of course FNKI knew better than to bring it up. It was a horrible experience, they would never want to have one of their teammates dying.
You guys aren't the only ones getting better" grinned Yang.
"Yes, we're all working on our teamwork more than ever!" said Ruby.
"Having Cardin with us helps too. You've turned out to be a good replacement for Weiss" the blond brawler smiled at the tall teen.
The Winchester rolled his eyes it wasn't that hard. Sure he was able to work with them, after seeing them fighting and the two months they've been training. It became easy to work together with the three girls. But being called a better replacement for the Schnee, he wouldn't go that far. He was being too modest.
"We were thinking if you guys want to grab something to eat?" asked the FNKI leader.
"Or maybe, we can go party. You have to go to our favorite dance place!" smiled Neon.
"That doesn't sound too bad" the blond brawler stole a glance at Cardin.
For some reason, the Winchester felt nervous. That look in her face really gave him the chills.
Marrow mentally sighed at their behavior. There was nothing wrong with taking a break and have some time off. Even with the situation but they should at least show some professionalism. They're no longer kids, they have their Huntsman licenses making them official Huntsmen and Huntresses. At least, play the part right. Still they have truly gone a long way since meeting them. Team RWBY in particular have done a good job. Though it wasn't the same and it had nothing to do with the face that he was thinking of Weiss Schnee. It went back to the mission to the mine when he complimented her new hair style. But the dog faunus meant what he said, she looks good so why was he feeling embarrassed.
"Don't start celebrating yet. The day has only gotten started" Harriet interrupted the faunus' train of thought.
"They'll be fine" Velvet assured she was confident they can handle anything thrown at them.
"We'll see you guys later" Flynt and his team were ready to go.
"Bye!" followed the cat faunus in skates.
As the team left the virtual room Clover wasn't that far off. He walked to the group holding his scroll. They knew exactly what this was about because it was always him the one to give them assignments for the day.
"Good to see everyone in high spirits" the Ace Op leader smiled, opening his scroll.
"You know the drill. Here's today mission."
He touched the screen sending the information of the mission in the group's scroll. It immediately appeared on their screen the details of the assignment. They weren't the only ones, as the Ace Ops also have their respective missions. Velvet wasn't that surprised as her mission was to patrol Mantle. Some of the missions would be dispose Grimm that were on the outskirts of the city, or further in the Tundra. Accompany convoys of the military for extra security, patrolling Atlas and of course patrolling Mantle. Looks like her brother along with Ruby, Jaune, Ren and Nora got the same mission too. Cardin, Blake, Yang and Oscar got security for convoy. The Ace Ops got security convoy and patrolling Atlas.
The security convoy mission has to be aid the military with the transportation of materials for finishing rebuilding Amity Colosseum. It was ground transport hence, they extra hand. The Tundra wasn't safe not with Grimm roaming the snowy lands. Even with Qrow who has been patrolling the grounds, taking out any creatures that might attempt to get close to Mantle. It was necessary there were Huntsman present with delivering the materials. It will be another day of hard work.
"You're to begin ASAP. Good luck and stay safe."
"No rest for the new Huntsmen and Huntresses, huh?" the Arc gave a smile.
"Thought you would be used to it by now" Velvet replied with a smile.
Jaune did his best not to blushed but, failed miserably. The older Crowe's expression, her smile melted him on the spot.
The rest of the Ace Ops stared at Velvet and Laphicet. They have already witnessed what the Crowe siblings can do. They eventually sparred with the two and both brother and sister had to show their abilities during the match. It shocked them a lot at first. Their skills, their powers, their magic. To them, these artes were no different from actual magic. It's like each of them is a Maiden or maybe, they were in the same level as Salem. It was hard to tell but one thing the Aces knew. The siblings were extremely essential to the coming war. They are that important. There won't be a sparring match with the siblings because they got their mission early. Marrow was relief that his companions. Last time he got frozen solid. Not a pleasant experience for the faunus.
Weiss got dressed in her attire after the shower. She was done with practicing her katas for the day. That's what she's been doing for two months since she's been staying in her home. She has constantly failed to talk things out with her brother. Whitley is as stubborn as she is, refused to listen to her. He would ignore her by resuming walking, putting his headphones playing music with his scroll, or just going to his room locking the door. There was no getting through to him and the mere thought frustrates her to no end. Yet, the former heiress wasn't giving up, she will get through to him one way or the other. Her brother wasn't the only one she was trying to fix things with the family. A sigh escaped her lips.
The white haired girl thought of her mother, Willow Schnee. The times she has encountered the woman weren't the best for her. Because it was always the same, she would be drinking a bottle of rum. She will take the bottle with her wherever she goes. It's like the battle is part of her life. How long has she's been like this, longer than she remembers. After all she knows why her father chose to marry her in the first place. Giving birth to three kids all to have an heir and own the family name. Money and power was Jacquess interest, its what drives him to run the SDC and running for council man. Where does that leave her mother. In a world of regret and self loathing.
The former heiress arrived at the courtyard. It was one of the few places her mother would be. Unlike other courtyards, the one from her manor is indoors. Due to Solitus' cold it wasn't a good idea to have one outdoors even with the heater generator. And she was right as she spotted Willow seated on a round table. Weiss's eyes narrowed seeing a bottle next to her, obviously. This time, it was whiskey. Pretty clear the older woman was drunk as usual. The white haired girl kept her composure, taking a breathe to calm down. The times she ha spoken to her she was close, to losing it. The more she gaze at her drunk expression, the stronger her rage will grow. Gazing into her eyes, she still hasn't noticed her yet.
"Mother?"
The white haired woman turned her attention to her daughter. A small smile spread her features. Not a single glass in the beautiful round table except, the bottle. She was drinking from it just as the time she has seen her.
"Weiss...Sweetie. How are you?"
The former heiress remained silent. Her eyes narrowed as Willow took a sip from the bottle. Why does she has to keep on doing this to herself.
"I'm glad that you have taken your time to come back. I missed you."
"We need to talk" replied the white haired girl calmly.
"I've been trying to get through Whitley, ever since I came back. Not the results I've been anticipating. He's doing everything in his power to avoid me."
It wasn't that bad though. She didn't had to deal with her father. Jacquess has been so busy working on his election campaign that he barely comes to the manor. He would probably spend the night in one of Atlas' most expensive hotels. Weiss wasn't ready to talk to him yet so she will start with her brother first.
"I thought at first, he needed some time off, I was wrong. I really want to make it up to him for what he had to go through. It's not easy to just accept an apology and start over but I really want to do this. I thought you could help me. Maybe you can talk to him, see if you can convince him. I would really appreciate it if you could help me."
Willow stood a little taken back, moving back and forth slowly. Must be because she was drunk and couldn't keep herself straight even, when she was seated.
"Sweetie...I, don't know. If you couldn't convince him, I won't have much luck."
"He's your son. I'm sure he might listen to you if you at least try" Weiss was already controlling herself from not blowing up on her mother.
"But I, wouldn't know what to say to him. You know him, he's always been reserved. It's hard to know what he's thinking in fact, it might be too late…."
The white haired girl stood livid. Just like that, she wasn't giving up on him. Not even going to bother trying.
"He's the new heir of the family company. He belongs to your father now."
"If he's like that, it's because he has lived a life of solitude like me!" she raised her voice.
Willow didn't reacted going for another sip of the whiskey bottle.
"I should have known better than to ask you for help. I admit I was being selfish only thinking of what was best for me and the kind of future I wanted. Whitley didn't had to live the way he has, I'm responsible for him and so are you."
"Maybe you shouldn't have left. You did it twice and not a second you thought of your brother. You should have never done that to him."
"I know of my mistake and that's why I'm trying to fix it, unlike you mother. You've been here all this time and not once you thought on checking in on him. At least I know when I did wrong" it was a miracle the former heiress was controlling her temper from reaching critical level.
The older Schnee was about to have another sip and something inside of Weiss snapped. She took Myrtenaster as she cast a black glyph at the whiskey bottle. The former heiress released the glyph as it launched the bottle away from the white haired woman. It shattered on a wall from the strong force. Willow was speechless when she saw the bottle flew away from her at high speed. Of course it has to be the family semblance responsible for it. Staring at her daughter it shocked her to see her so upset. Her eyes were like ice that were ready to freeze her on sight just from a simple glance.
"I've have had it with you! I am sick of this! Sick of you acting this way! I thought my own mother would be smart enough to know better than to dwell on the past drowning in her sorrow, but I was wrong again. So what if father married you because of your name, have a family now! A family that needs you more than you know. Instead of showing a backbone and face your problems, you decide to drink yourself to death. Makes me wonder if you're really a Schnee."
The white haired woman was still speechless but her words were hitting her hard.
"You're not just hurting yourself but you your whole family. You're hurting me. I don't like watching my mother getting drunk all the time because she regrets marrying a man who has never love her for who she is but for what she is, just stop and open your eyes. It doesn't matter anymore, you have us so deal with it! Move on and just accept it, you can't go back. It's time you decide what to do mother. Continue being a drunk trophy wife or a proud mother of three children"
Willow was still struck speechless as Weiss pulled her closer for a hug.
"You know I love you but please stop this. Nothing good will come from relying on alcohol except dying from it. This isn't the way to solve a problem. You can't help Whitley even if you want to because you can't even help yourself. Be strong, I know you are, you can do it. You're still that top notch Huntress that graduated with high honors from Atlas Academy and it's not because you're a Schnee but because you wanted it, you chose to be one and you work so hard for it. If Father doesn't love you then screw him, it's his loss! Don't let this drag you down anymore. Wake up and realize we need you, your family needs you."
She broke the hug and realize she deserves a medal for not shedding tears. She was so emotional right now.
"I will do my best to help Whitley by being there for him, just like you told me. I will leave you to your thoughts, you have a lot of thinking to do. I hope you make the right choice."
Weiss turned back heading out of the courtyard and she knew she was in tears by now. This hasn't be an easy two months.
Willow was in tears looking devastated as her eyes drifted to the shattered bottle. The older Schnee leaned her head on the table and wept until calming down.
The northern section of Mantle seems to be the most peaceful. The cold is suppose to strong in the part but thanks to the heaters provided by the SDC, it was little to worry about. That's what it was for Velvet before all of this started. She walked with Jaune gazing at the empty streets. It was the middle of the day, it should be lively with people. The city has seen better days before the embargo and many of the dust businesses shutting down. Guess the people didn't had a choice not since that day. After two months, the murders resumed as more innocent lives were taken. Things got worse when they found the identity of the killer. Everyone saw it through a surveillance the one responsible being a military guard.
The reaction was as expected. The people of Mantle were outraged, others felt betrayed. They already distrusted Ironwood for his actions on the city and now this. Finding out that someone from the same military that is suppose to be protecting them is the one behind the killings has made them relinquished any trust for the General. Not just him but anyone from the Atlas Military. Eventually this turn of events made the situation worse than they thought. The people got together and demanded the military to leave Mantle. Anger cries that they didn't needed them and were better off without any of their security. They no longer felt safe under their watch.
But the worse resumes as there were more consequences. Not just the people were turning on the military but the faunus resident have chosen a really bad time to act up. It seems they have finally had it with the discrimination they've been facing for years. They were creating revolts against the humans that oppress them. So riots, are a common daily thing they've been handing. Velvet wasn't happy this is how patrol missions will go, stopping riots and it was harder with the lack of the military. They've been doing their best in trying to do their job to ensure safety and security. Ironwood's curfew wasn't enough though.
Even with all of the good that's happened it wasn't enough to overdo current events. The council finally voted to help the city and its people. The boarder wall was fixed and reinforced with a layer of pure iron and steel, security towers were set for boarder watch along with heavy artillery. They were the same kind of weapons that would be on the Atlas boarder. Jacquess Schnee offered to double the salary on the employees he had to lay off due to the embargo, if they return to the SDC. Dust shops reopened, resuming business, more jobs opportunity were created, unemployment decreased, the economy flourished. It was all looking good for Mantle returning to it's former glory. That is, until the identity of the murderer was revealed.
Velvet wanted to give a long sigh and rub her forehead but, she didn't. She needed to keep her focus on the mission. Why was she feeling like this. The former therion was upset for a reason, it was hard to know what was going on. In fact, this has been happening for a while now. It's like she was ready to go off any second now. The older Crowe just wanted to find that damn murderer and get it over with. And then there was Ironwood's reaction to the surveillance footage showing the military guard killing a Mantle civilian.
The group stood in the headmaster's office after being called by Ironwood. They just saw the surveillance footage of the guard killing that person. It was more than enough to connect the dots that this was assailant behind the murders. Everyone was calm but they had a right to be worried. James was pacing left and right not looking happy in the slightest. This was to be expected after seeing someone wearing the uniform of the Atlas military. Of course it was hard to think an actual soldier would do such thing. They were loyal to the kingdom and the General, they would never go this low. They went with the conclusion that this could be a trick. This person isn't who he was claiming to be.
"James…?" Qrow started.
The General activated the holographic screen from his desk showing the surveillance footage again. Everyone's eyes were on it, that it was in the evening, before midnight. A young man was walking when he the guard approached him. They had a short conversation when he was suddenly shot at point blank range on his head. The guard had a wide smile after what he did, James was trying to calm down. The guard ran off ending the footage.
"This is unacceptable! I refuse to believe that's one of my men!"
The man calmed down removing his anger and frustration. No matter how many times he will see the footage. It was a blow to his pride as a soldier and General of Atlas.
"Nobody's doubting you. It is pretty questionable someone from the military to go on a killing spree" replied the Branwen.
"Which is impossible. All Atlas military personnel go through a background check to see if they have a criminal history or any of their family members, and that's before attending Military Academy" replied Winter.
"That means it's an impostor" said Laphicet.
"We're taking action right now" James turned to the Specialist.
The white haired woman nodded as she took her scroll with the recorded footage of the murderer. She zoomed in a bit.
"I've already reported on the stolen uniform. We will get an answer on the identity of the rightful owner within the coming hours."
"I want everyone to patrol Mantle. Every corner, every street, the whole city. This murderer must be found at all cost."
"Easier said than done, this guy knows his way through Mantle" said the scythe master.
Both the General and Schnee Specialist were in thought looking worried. It will give more reason that whoever this murderer is, must be a resident of Mantle. There are many soldiers of Atlas who are from the ground city. It won't just ruin the moral of the military, but the trust of the people. This revelation will shatter it for sure.
"There's more. He's probably not alone on this."
"He has help?" spoke Velvet.
"Exactly. I doubt one person has been successful avoiding detection from surveillance and keep a low profile while murdering dozens of people. Even if he's in disguise as part of the military. Someone must be guiding him."
Everyone stood in thought. Qrow was really using his instinct and knowledge from being a Professional Huntsman. All of his missions of gathering intelligence has really paid off.
"That will make sense if he has a secret aid" said Winter.
"He was eventually recorded, so he's not that good" said Weiss.
"About that. I find it weird he would get spotted after avoiding surveillance for a while. He's been doing this for two months and now he gets caught on camera. I don't buy it" resumed the Branwen.
"What are you saying?" asked Oscar.
"I hope I'm wrong. But I think he wanted to get caught by surveillance."
"You mean he did it on purpose?" said Ruby.
"Let's assume he doesn't want to destroy James's reputation but the Atlas military's instead."
"Now that there has been enough people dead. He wanted to show them the military is responsible for it" the older Crowe put two on two together.
"That means his endgame is…." the Specialist Schnee was too shocked at the revelation.
"Turn the people of Mantle against the military" replied Ironwood.
"Increase distrust and tensions between the two cities. It's a good plan" said the former therion.
"This is crazy. They were already hostile towards the military when we first got here. After this…." Jaune paused.
"We're in for a lot of revolts. That will lead to Grimm approaching their doorstep" nodded the Branwen.
"It's a good thing the wall has been fixed and firepower has been added" replied Yang.
"It gives us a bigger reason to find this murderer before it gets worse" said the General.
"If it can get any worse" said Cardin.
"Better not say it" followed the blond brawler.
"The Ace Ops are already on it" reminded Winter.
"Sir, we're ready at any time! Just give the word!" spoke Penny.
"I know you're all are and I'm thankful for your cooperation. Honestly, I have never care about my reputation. And this situation is more than just pride. This is about the trust of the people of Mantle, we must not lose it and we must not let any more innocent lives to be taken. If they believe they can't feel safe with us present, then we're not fulfilling our duty to them. As soldiers of this kingdom, as Huntsmen and Huntresses. We must find this criminal, so he can face justice."
The group gave a nod.
It's been almost a week since then and they still haven't found a single lead. They hadn't had any luck when they didn't know who was doing the killings, what are the chances they will be successful now. Even with the military aiding them. As stated by Winter they found the owner of the guard uniform and how convenient the man was found dead in the freezing tundra. The autopsy reports said he's been dead for months. This was enough evidence that the murderer is not from the military. He was only wearing the uniform to fulfill the plan to turn the people of Mantle against the military.
Another thing that was troubling Velvet was the possibility connection of Salem being involved in this. The killer's objective is basically to separate the kingdom of Atlas, to divide them. Which it will go perfectly to the Grimm witch's desire. If the kingdom is torn apart it will make her easier to get her hands on the Winter Maiden and the staff of Creation. Humanity divided will lead to her victory. She was unaware of the long gaze upon her by her boyfriend.
Jaune started giving her a few glances knowing she wasn't feeling like herself. Something was on her mind and it was clear to see. He could easily read his girlfriend like an open book. The Arc was in deep thought if he should bring the topic or was it bad timing. They were in the middle of a mission, so it wasn't the right time or place. Yet he wanted to because he was that worried for the long haired woman. The blond leader would do anything for her.
"Another day, another mission, heh?"
"More of the same."
She replied, so it wasn't that bad. At least, that's what he was thinking. The tone of her voice sounded a bit off, definitely not all right. Time to make conversation and be a good boyfriend.
"Everything...Okay?"
"Sure."
He sweat dropped. So he wasn't that much luck. Velvet can be stubborn when it comes to telling her problems.
"You know you can always tell me what's wrong. I will do my best to help."
"Everything's fine."
That was a lie and he knew it, she knew it too. Velvet cursed mentally hating herself for lying to him. Why should she when she's always being honest with him. Why start now, lies would only destroy their relationship. She immediately regretted her choice deciding to tell him the truth.
"That's not it, sorry. I didn't mean to lie."
"No need to rush it if you don't want to tell me."
"No, I do want to tell you. I should never keep you in the dark. There is something bothering me, it has for a while-"
The former therion was interrupted by an incoming transmission from an Atlas soldier. It was the same for Jaune as both were listening from their ear piece. Looks like there was trouble in the streets like they didn't saw that coming. So much for a quiet patrol through the city. This has been happening since the footage revealed of the killer. The communication said the disturbance was occurring near the orphanage. Both the Arc and the older Crowe got worried because that's where Klein's sister works. Better hurry up and see what was going on. Since the military was very quick, they were probably taking care of it by now. When they got there, they were right. They were already on it but it wasn't looking good.
There was a big group of people armed with molotov cocktails. Great, another riot as expected. At least the military was ready as they have mobilize their troops to apprehend them. Though they weren't equipped with their usual weaponry. Ironwood has given strict orders not to open fire on civilians but to stop them with non-lethal force. Batons, riot shields and tear gas. They would get hurt as it was inevitable but they will do their best that no one dies. It wasn't an easy thing to do but it was needed to be done. Velvet and Jaune knew the General wanted what was best no matter if he was getting hated on for his actions. They weren't happy to be attacking regular people that has a right to be angry whether they were being deceived or not.
It was the same for the former teacher and the Arc not to use artes that will kill them. Unlike Huntsman and members of the military, civilians don't have their aura unlocked. Meaning, they could easily die leaving them with the choice. They know their mission and orders and it's not like it was the first time they've done this. The first thing they needed to do is to remove any weapons they have in possession, so the molotov cocktails were their priority. They were dangerous and cause a lot of harm. Luckily the military were making sure they don't hit their target. Usually some of the fire bottles would hit a house, building or workplace. This time, they were successful as the soldiers were holding the angry mob using them.
It wasn't that bad as Velvet and Jaune knew what's in store for them. These people have no training or fighting experience so it was easy to take them on even in sheer numbers. Still, they won't go as far as to underestimate strength in numbers. Velvet and Jaune teamed together as they aimed for the molotov cocktails cutting them with their weapons. That was their strategy, take out what makes them a threat before taking them out. Of course they would knock them unconscious before they get taken away by the military. The soldiers were doing the same destroying the flaming bottle with their batons and blocking any of their attacks with their shields. They threw tear gas when too many of them would gather in one spot.
If they can prevent destruction to private property like past times, it will be great. They were doing fine as Velvet knocked out another angry rioter with the Arc watching her back. They were doing pretty good even if members of the group were missing. The Atlas military was no joke, proving they were that good. Things got easier as Robin and her Merry Huntresses came for help. The leader and candidate for council seat gave a grin ordering her girls, Joanna, May and the sheep faunus Fiona to give them a hand. The woman gave a friendly at the older Crowe as she rolled her eyes I return. Leave it to her to make a serious situation look like it was just a field trip. Still the former therion knew she was taking it seriously after all, because she got to know her during the two months she's been in the kingdom of Atlas.
Things got better as Penny arrived to provide further aid. Making it easier to control the situation. The last of the rioters were downed as all of the molotov cocktails have been destroyed. They have all been arrested and will be taken to the Mantle Detention Center in which from there, they'll be taken to Atlas Penitentiary. Velvet and Jaune knew these were just regular people that were afraid and angry at the revelation. Believing the military has betrayed them and that they're the enemy. The killer's plan was working if his intentions are to divide both cities and create tension. It gave the older Crowe more reason to believe Salem could be behind all of this. Did she sent someone from her faction and they were already here.
The front door of the orphanage opened as Klein emerged with his sister behind him. They knew better than to come out but they got curious as to the noises has stopped. The long haired woman waved to them, signaling everything was under control now. The former butler gave a nod closing the door. Klein was now working as the doctor of the orphanage looking after the children's health. Turning to Jaune, he smiled for a job well done. It went better than they thought without help from the others. By now, the Atlas soldiers were boarding the rioters into convoy so they can be send to the Detention Center. It was another mission accomplished.
There was a moment of silence between Robin and her Merry Huntresses as they stared at Penny. Velvet was worried it could turn out into a fight. Ever since they revealed of the killer's identity the woman running for council seat was not happy with the military. An obvious reaction to be expected and staring at the robot created by Atlas technology is more than enough not to trust Pietro's creation. It was hard to trust but at least they were willing to help them with this problem. The former therion had to go between them just in case. The robot girl did her best to keep a smile even with what's going on. Not like the leader of the group would be reckless enough to start a fight with the military present.
"Relax. We can put our differences aside" said the leader of the Merry Huntresses.
"You have every right not to trust them, or us. But I'm sure we can come to the agreement that we don't want riots where people can get hurt or even die. It's not in your personal interest" replied Velvet.
"True, these riots are getting on my nerves. And just when Mantle was starting to look in its former glory."
Joanna and May stood silent but their expression said a lot. They weren't happy with the military and maybe they do support the people revolting against Atlas and Ironwood. Not to mention one of the kingdom's strongest weapon was standing before them. Their eyes were still on Penny. Fiona was calm looking more like she was supporting Robin's point of view.
"I can't support riots if I'm running for council, can I?"
"Robin Hill. I know you're not happy with what's been happening for the past two months. I know you must be angry and betrayed with the revelation of this killer. But I assure you, the military is not responsible for this. General Ironwood is working hard to find this person and make sure not another innocent civilian gets killed."
"Save it Penny. You can say whatever you like but, without any evidence to back it up. Your opinion has no concrete truth. The people of Mantle saw the culprit in the act and that's enough for them to believe whose at fault. The footage speaks for itself and my trust for the General has decreased greatly." said the leader of the Merry Huntresses.
"She's Ironwood's mechanical dog, of course she would support him" spoke May.
The ginger head girl was hurt by the comment. True she was a robot but there was no need to act so mean about it. Jaune and Velvet could felt the tension coming from May and Joanna. These two, obviously has a beef with James and the military.
"Just to let you know, we're not sitting on the sidelines waiting for them to find that murderer. We got this covered as part of our duty to the people. We don't need Ironwood's dogs doing our job" followed Joanna.
"It's not just the military who is trying to find this guy. Us too. Working together increases our chances of finding him" replied Jaune.
"We don't need anyone's help the Merry Huntresses is more than enough" said May.
Robin has immediately signaled them to stay quiet. The two members that were going over the line were silent in a heartbeat. They knew better than to upset their leader.
"What they're trying to say is, we will handle this matter with or without your help. If the military wants to interfere to make themselves look like the heroes of the story then I wish them good luck. You can see it for yourself they're not in the least happy with them. I doubt catching him will change their minds about Atlas."
Velvet stood in thought, she was right. Her eyes turned to the soldiers. By now, they were done, getting on the vehicles leaving along with the convoys. A couple of them were still present as they went to proceed with their mission patrolling the streets. Guess it wouldn't hurt to tell them even, when she shouldn't.
"The military is innocent. They found the owner of the uniform being used by the killer dead."
"Velvet, that's classified-" the Arc gasped before he got cut off by his girlfriend.
"Yes, that is correct. General Ironwood gave strict orders that none of that information leaves HQ" followed Penny.
"I'm not from the military and they have a right to know."
"I knew we were going to get along just fine" a smile spread over Robin's features at the news.
"So what does that mean?" asked Joanna.
"It means someone else is wearing that uniform, pretending to be part of the military" replied Fiona shocked.
"Yeah right. Too convenient the killer is an intruder and the military gets a pass. I don't buy it" said May.
"But it will make sense. Whoever this killer is must have an agenda, one that includes turning Atlas and Mantle against each other" the leader of the Merry Huntresses stood in thought.
"That's what we think. The impostor wants Mantle to believe the military is responsible for those deaths" resumed the older Crowe.
"He's done a pretty good job so far."
"Come on, that can't be it. It's too much of a coincidence" said Joanna.
"Why don't you find out for sure? You're the one with the lie detector semblance" the former therion extended her hand to the woman.
Robin gave a chuckle looking amused.
"Not this time. Just now, you went all the trouble to tell us classified information going against Ironwood's orders. You could have stay quiet, but you didn't. That's enough points for me to prove you're trustworthy. Though the General won't be happy with you being a whistle blower."
"James will understand. I just hope when we capture this guy, you will do your part to convince the people."
"I'll give you my word."
Joanna, May and Fiona were shocked at their leader's response. True, the Merry Huntresses weren't fond of the Atlas Military but they still believe in doing the right thing. This was just unexpected coming from her.
"If the killer is indeed an impostor, no ties with the military whatsoever. I will do my best to convince the people of Mantle of Atlas' innocence. But it's easier said than done, the hatred for the military has been reinforced thanks to this guy. It might never go away, they might never trust them again."
"Just like the hatred for the faunus."
"There is something else I would like to know. If you don't mind me asking Velvet" this time, she extended her hand to the long haired woman.
"Why are there convoys of the military moving materials from Mantle to Amity?"
This caught the older Crowe by surprise, the same with Jaune and Penny. The leader of the female group smiled at their reactions.
"I have kept myself well informed. My girls here have been keeping tabs for a while now. It's like they're building something, something big."
"We can't tell them about that" the Arc whispered in his girlfriend's ear.
The former teacher agreed. The Communication Tower at Amity Colosseum was classified information Ironwood wants to be kept a secret until the time is right. It was all right telling them about the uniform of the Atlas soldier but not this.
"That's when we draw the line. It's out of my hands. There's knowing important information and then there's knowing too much of it. Sorry, can't tell you."
"I thought you trusted me. Are you willing to throw away our friendship, you said you're not from the military?"
"I'm not. But I can't tell you, not yet. You will know eventually."
"Hm...Guess I will have to find out on my own. Anyway, thanks for telling me about the later. Time to head out everyone."
"Sorry for disappointing you."
Robin just shrugged it off with a smile as she walked out with May and Joanna following her.
"Are you sure you don't want to join the Merry Huntresses, we have more than one spot available?" said Fiona.
"I have enough on my plate already. And I don't think you want to take orders from two of us."
The sheep faunus blinked not knowing what the older Crowe meant. Until it hit her and she laughed, following her leader and the others.
"I'm still not getting used of you and Velvet having the same voice."
"Me neither" Robin gave a coy smirk.
Penny arrived returning to Ruby Laphicet. She got the communication and told the two it has been taken care of. So there was no need for any further assistance. They resumed with their mission patrolling their region. The younger Crowe were still in thought staring as there weren't many people present, or walking by. It's been like that since the revealed of the killer. Security has been increased twice as much with a curfew that everyone must obey. It sounded harsh and suspicious but Ironwood was doing the right thing. The point of the curfew is to prevent any more people being victims of this assailant. But because of those two actions and the people distrusting the military, the riots started.
Also the faunus have finally reached their limit as they were rising up against the humans that have been oppressing for too long. Most of the revolts were between humans and faunus. If the military gets involved they will also get attacked. Times of violence because the people wanted to defend themselves against those that provide security and safety. Pretty clear the only way to put a stop to this is by finding the killer. So far no luck showing his skill and experience. If them along with the military still hasn't found him it means he was clever and knew his way around. As stated by Qrow.
"It feels like it doesn't matter that the council took action in helping Mantle, doesn't it?" asked the younger Crowe.
"I guess. They barely had a chance to enjoy it because of that footage" followed Ruby.
"Maybe it would have been better if they never saw it. I mean, General Ironwood could have done something."
"It's too late to be thinking like that. We just have to do our job now."
"I know it hasn't been easy these couple of weeks. But we must remain positive my friends. We'll find the suspect for sure!" Penny being the cheery motivator.
"I hope you're right. It feels like we're getting nowhere" said Laphicet.
"Stop being so negative silly. We won't get anything done if you keep acting like that" the red cloak petite scolded but not too harshly.
"Sorry. I know we shouldn't stop or give up."
"Yes, the military is all over it, searching in every corner of Mantle. We'll find him sooner or later" added the robotic girl.
The ginger head reached for her ear getting an incoming transmission.
"Yes sir? Right, I'm on my way!"
"You're leaving again?" asked the silver eyed girl.
"Sorry, General Ironwood wants me to check something on the outskirts. It might be Grimm activity. He wants you two to stay and continue your patrol. I'll be back as soon as I can."
And she flew off, leaving the two teens again. Laphicet has suddenly stood frozen realizing he was along with Ruby for the second time. The first time Penny left them, he was calm and nervous. But now, he was more than nervous. His face has suddenly heat up as his heart beat's started increasing. This wasn't unusual because he has felt this way towards the red cloak petite. Most of the times he was happy being around her. There was a perfect explanation to why he was more than nervous than normal. A conversation he had with his older sister during the start of the day.
"You're asking her out."
"Wha…?"
The Crowe siblings stood on the hallways of Atlas Academy after getting their mission. Velvet stood with a serious expression crossing her arms, meaning she was all business. Her brother on the other hand, didn't looked that intimidating. Laphicet was shocked as his face turned red after what she told him. Maybe he heard wrong and he was hallucinating. Yeah that has to be it.
"I...Velvet-"
"You heard me. You're asking Ruby out."
"You can't be serious" he almost shouted but was able to keep his tone low.
"You two will be paired in today's mission. It's a perfect chance as any."
"But we won't be alone, Penny's coming with us. I don't think I'll be able to-"
The older Crowe gave a sigh at her brother's behavior.
"This has to stop Laphicet. At first it was cute watching you get all red and embarrassed at the situation but now, it's just tiring. I used to like it now I will get annoyed. You have to man up and face this."
"I don't know if I can…." he lowered his head.
"You need to gather some courage and stop waiting. It's time you make the first move because Ruby isn't going to make it."
The younger Crowe stood silent as the long haired woman went closer.
"Jaune made the first move when he kissed me. I was shocked not seeing it coming and I needed time to figure out how I feel about him until I realized my feelings. You don't need that, because you already know how you feel about her."
"I do. I have like her for so long…."
"Don't you get upset that you can't tell her the truth?"
"More like annoyed" he muttered.
"Then what are you waiting for? Even if she says no, you need to go for it. It's better to take the chance then regretting it for the rest of your life."
"…...…..."
"I know you can do it. I'm sure Ruby would accept, she really cares about you."
Okay, he knew that was the case. The young reaper has shown many times she cares for him but he wasn't sure if she would like him more than a friend. Guess there was only one way to find out.
"I'll...I'll try."
"Don't think it for too long" Velvet smiled ruffling his hair.
Laphicet nodded mentally, he knew she was right. So he was okay with facing danger and fighting Grimm. But when it comes to asking a girl out he would get beyond scared. And besides he has known her for over a year, enough time to make up his mind. And he was along again with the petite not knowing when Penny will come back.
"Laphi?"
The younger Crowe realized he was still lost in thought and that Ruby's face was a little too close. He got red as he took a step back. Who was kidding, he couldn't do this. Why does he has to act like a coward when it comes to his feelings. Remembering Velvet's words this was something he couldn't run forever. The teen kept calm staring at the worried girl.
"Sorry, for spacing out. I was thinking of the mission."
"As long as you're not being negative" she smiled though doing this every single day can get tiring and annoying even, if this is her duty as a full fledged Huntress.
"Say, Ruby?"
"Hmm?"
The boy finally gathered the strength and courage. Because he really wanted to do this. What could be the worse thing that happens Ruby might reject him but whatever. He has to take the risk and listen to what his sister told him.
"Do you...Do you want to go with me to…."
The silver eyed petite kept staring at him and for some reason, she was looking anxious. Her behavior changed as she was looking forward for him to finish his sentence. And she was feeling nervous don't know why, feeling like she had butterflies in her stomach didn't know why either. It was still hard to know why she was anxious.
"To…." the younger Crowe was thinking hard of a place she would really like to visit.
His eyes widened remembering, a place that Ruby likes. It wouldn't be a date without a special place to spend together.
"That weapon shop you like so much."
"Yes. It was called Arcanum. It had a big variety of weapons when I passed by. I really want to go." Silver eyes were beaming with happiness as she smiled.
"Let's go there" he was so happy knowing she was going to react this way.
"We can't, we're in the middle of a mission."
"We can still go. They don't have to know."
"Laphi, we can't disobey General Ironwood's orders. We promised him to help the military protect Mantle and Atlas. As official licensed Huntsman and Huntress we can't just straight up and abandon the mission."
"We're not abandoning the mission, we're just going to have a look around and then we'll return to our post. As long as we don't take too long no one will find out."
Ruby stood dumbfounded because it makes so much sense. It's not like they're going to report the General they took a break to check things out at a weapon shop. Without a word she ran off taking his hand, using her semblance. The faster they get there, the better. Poor Laphicet just screamed still not use to the petite's semblance. He will be arriving to the weapon shop leaving his poor stomach behind.
Qrow remembers the few times he visited Atlas. Nothing like now, with the military air fleet surrounding the skies like it was ready for an all out of war invasion. Not much security until you go to the capital. Unlike Mantle, this city was filled with the kingdom's advance technology making Atlas the city of the future, or the perfect utopia called by outsiders. Too flashy for him honestly so it never got his attention but, there was one thing that he would prefer of the capital from everything else. The drinks, of course. Some of his favorites beverages were from this kingdom and it was the main reason why he was happy to returned here. After a hard day of work, he thought he deserves a break and a nice cold glass.
The Branwen walked the streets heading for his favorite bar. It was obviously a fancy one because this is Atlas. Not like the usual ones where there's a sexy waitress and a brawl will go down at any moment. A smile spread his features spotting the place on a corner. The Altesian Sphere, it was the name. Pretty stupid name for a bar in his opinion but he wasn't going to complain. Not when it has a special place in his heart. The Huntsman entered the bar and it hasn't changed from the last time he was in. Clean, fresh, elegant, not that many folks and with that touch of that advance technology the kingdom is known for. And couldn't forget no waitresses with short skirts, they all have long ones that will almost reach their ankles. Pretty lame for the scythe master there was no fun in that.
The holographic screen near the bartender table was showing a broadcast regarding the upcoming election. Showing early poll results between Robin Hill and Jacquess Schnee who are running for the Atlas Council. Showing 53% for the homemade hero of Mantle and only 33% for the President and owner of the SDC. He could care less about politics, never been his favorite topic. Getting seated Qrow ordered his usual Solitas Breeze. It was whiskey deep cold served on the rocks. Truly an exquisite drink worth spending the amount of lien. The Branwen could care less, he deserves it and he forgot the last time he was in Atlas. Time to sit back and enjoy before another day of missions comes knocking at his door.
"A little early to be drinking, don't you think?"
The Branwen felt like scoffing at the comment even if he supposedly gave up the bottle a while back. Mostly because he recognized the owner of the voice. Turning to see the leader of the Ace Ops Clover standing next to him. This was an amusing sight that he will find him here of all places.
"I thought you said you quit drinking?"
"I did. I'm only having one glass. You got a problem?"
"Fine by me. I could go for one myself. Bartender two Solitas Breeze!"
The older man behind the counter nodded as he immediately got started making the two drinks. Qrow didn't bother asking how the heck he would know. Wait, this guy is the good luck charm, of course he would know. The Ace Leader have taken a seat next to the Huntsman.
"I doubt you came here just to have a drink."
"I did came for a drink. Then I saw you."
"Shouldn't you be following orders and do whatever mission Jimmy gave you?"
"Already did and currently on standby. What's your excuse?"
"Same. Patrolled the outskirts of Mantle and part of the Tundra, took out a few on Grimm on the way. It might take a couple of weeks before more show up."
"That was fast."
The Branwen grinned best thing of using his bird transformation. He can fly and get anywhere quickly and because the size of the crow was small, he wouldn't go exhausted unlike Velvet's dragon form. Best of all, he doesn't have to stand out. Just fly by and do his thing.
"Guess I should have expected these results from a pro Huntsman. It's no wonder the General give you missions outside of Mantle. While the military resumes with transporting the materials to Amity, you can handle any threat that might make the journey safe. It's better this way if we can avoid any conflict while the Communication Tower is being finished, we don't have to waste our time dealing with Grimm."
"Just doing my job like everyone else."
The bartender was done handing them the two glasses filled with the drink. Taking a sip it hit Qrow with such a nostalgic feeling. The Solitas Breeze was still as good as he remembers and the familiar taste of alcohol on his lips. Reminding him of the times he was always drinking and getting drunk. He started drinking during his teen years and even when attending Beacon. But he wouldn't drink so much, it was more socially friendly. That eventually changed when Summer was gone and from that day, he was drinking frequently. And it got worse when he found out the truth of Salem to the point his two nieces could have gotten killed. Now he wants to stay sober and avoid drinking too much.
Clover took a sip giving a smile, yep still the same high quality taste. This bar drinks never changes providing the best in alcohol enjoyment. Putting down his glass, his eyes fell on the Huntsman.
"Aren't you going to ask me about my semblance? I know you've been wanting to."
"There's nothing else to know" he took another sip.
"Back at the mission to the mine, you didn't seem to be too thrilled when you found out."
"It took me by surprise, that's all."
"You weren't the first. So many people were all taken back when I first developed it, others were so glad and others not too happy. Mostly, they were jealous. I don't blame them."
The Branwen took another sip enjoying every minute of the alcoholic drink.
"Never thought I would meet someone with the opposite of my semblance."
"That makes two of us. One cursed forever and the other blessed forever."
"You might not believe me, but having good luck for a semblance isn't as great as one would make it out to be."
"I bet. You can buy a thousand lottery tickets but instead you got them for free. And you win the jackpot in every single one. Very tragic, I almost feel for you."
Clover ignored his sarcastic tone but his words caught him off guard.
"I've never done that before. I might give it a try. Thanks for letting me know" he smiled.
"Glad I was able to help" the scythe master took another sip.
"But in all seriousness Qrow, my life wasn't that great. One would think this semblance is the best thing that ever happened to anyone in their whole life. And before they realize it, it's not. I learned of it and eventually I didn't like it, I hated it."
The Huntsman put down his glass, his attention was on the young man. His tone was that serious and it lead him that this was no joke. Can someone really have a bad life with good luck for a semblance.
"Do you know what is like to have everything get handed to you? Everything you wanted in life. It comes to you just like that without lifting a finger, without any ounce of effort. That's what happened to me. My training was a brief, just a walk in the park and I would barely get tired. It was too easy, I immediately knew that's not normal. You don't start training and you already get good in one day. I bet it was the other way with you."
It hit the Branwen so suddenly. His semblance made his life so miserable. He remembered the many bad things that happened to him during his training with his father the chief of the Branwen tribe. How many times he would failed at the exercise and the many times he got hurt. The embarrassment and how angry his father will get. There was also the bad things the tribe leader went through due to his semblance. Not the best times of his life.
"You're telling me you had it bad like me?"
"There was no hard work, no effort, it just happened. My training, graduating from Atlas Academy and graduating cadet school it was all given to me. I wanted to earn all those things through my own strength, not because of a semblance. The thought I became who I am is because of this semblance and not on any of the work I put as a person that wants to become a protector for Atlas."
"Sorry. I had no idea" now he felt bad to think all this time he was suffering.
"That's in the past now. I changed. I came to the conclusion that I have to stop thinking about it and letting it take over my life. There's nothing that can be done, it's my semblance, it's part of me. Whether my success is because of my semblance or not, I'm happy with it. I'm glad for this life I was given. I learned to live with it."
Qrow nodded going back to take a sip. If only he could be more like him. He got over it but he still hasn't.
"You don't have to say anything. Just wanted you to know good luck semblance doesn't mean it's a blessing. But I'm sure people would kill to have it."
"I feel the same way. I have always seem my semblance as a curse. Just when I thought I can be safe getting closer to people, it comes to screw me over. Anything, big or small happens and the worse, those that mean to me get hurt or…."
"How about we forget about anything bad and talk about something else? It will be better for both of us. I'll start, I have plenty of good stories."
The Branwen was relief no longer talking about depressive things. A new topic and please let it be about women. Surely, someone like Clover must have his fair share of stories.
"So we had this party after graduation. Lots of people, lots of food, drinks, everything, the works. I remembered I got so drunk, I mean really drunk I passed out."
The sycthe master chuckled taking a sip. It was going to be one of those things. He had a feeling the leader of the Ace Ops would pulled something like that.
"I had no idea how many shots I took that day, but I was out like a light."
"And you suddenly remembered everything just because…."
"It gets better. When I woke up, I was on my bed" he smiled.
Qrow rolled his eyes, imagine that.
"And...To my right, a lovely lady and to my left a charming man. We were naked of course."
"I didn't see that coming, honest" the Branwen was being sarcastic but it was friendly, not like earlier.
"And...I remembered, everything just like that. I tell you it was worth remembering."
"Lucky you. Glad you had a great experience after graduating."
"Would you call me crazy that it didn't ended there?"
The Huntsman didn't wanted to believe it. But whatever, he was enjoying this.
"When I left the bedroom, there were four beautiful ladies in need of attention."
If Qrow was taking a sip he would have spit it.
"Me being a good guy, gave them some assistance. All of them."
"Son of a bitch."
Clover laughed at the Branwen's reaction.
"I always get that whenever I tell it to my friends."
"I'm starting to reconsider your semblance being a curse like mine."
"I have struggled as much as you had. But I won't mope around when a good thing happens. Even with your semblance, I'm sure you must have experienced your own pleasantries."
"Yeah, I had a few sleep overs nothing serious obviously. I never stayed too long afraid of putting them in danger."
"Glad to hear it. It wasn't all tragedy and curse for you."
Qrow gave a nod, it always saddened him when he could barely visit his nieces. When he wasn't busy doing missions, he was just keeping a distance. He will flirt with women to get his mind away from his family. The matter with his sister didn't helped either.
"Listen man. I have thought about it for a while now. With your bad luck and my good luck, we could...Balance each other out."
"Balance each other?"
"Maybe we won't be affected by our semblances so much. It's a vice versa thing."
The Branwen stood in thought. Could that really work. He never thought he would meet someone with the opposite semblance. What does he has to lose?
"Sure. Guess it won't hurt to try. As long as I don't have to rub your foot."
"I see what you did there" the Ace Ops leader chuckled.
"Wanna seal the deal?" the Huntsman raised is half empty glass.
"Why not" Clover took his.
"To lucky."
"And unlucky."
"Cheers!" they softly clashed their glasses.
Whitley smiled as he got seated on the dinning room. Not exactly his favorite place because of the long table. Why does it has to be so long, and why does it has so many seats. It's not like his family would all eat on the same table. The butler arrived with his food, right on time. The man lifted the lid of the elegant silver tray, revealing the teen's meal. The amazing dish looked tasty as it was releasing the steam, the aroma hitting the young Schnee. He kept his smile, the servants in the kitchen truly know how to make the best dishes in Atlas. The white haired boy took a sniff before grabbing his utensils, he was hungry.
"Whitley?"
The boy got irritated hearing his sister's voice, feeling his hunger disappearing. What does she want now. When will she get the hint that he doesn't want to talk to her. He made it clear he wasn't interesting thinking she was wasting her time. And just when he going to turn and set her straight he gasped, his eyes widening. Right in front of him stood her main summon armored Gigas with it's heavy sword stabbed on the ground. Pretty intimidating as Weiss was right next to it, keeping a smile.
"For the past two months, I tried to have a word with you. You've been avoiding me since. Sometimes being nice doesn't cut it when it comes to a Schnee, isn't that right?"
The teen was still shocked at the sight of the summon.
"Can we finally talk and end this childish game?"
The Armored Gigas hit his sword on the ground causing a small tremor as Whitley was ready to run for his life. This thing was no joke if it was brought forth by her family semblance. All he could do is nod.
"I didn't hear you."
"Y-YES! We'll talk!"
"All right" she smiled, happy that her summon did the trick.
"Finish your meal. I would like if we can talk somewhere else, anywhere but here. Is that too much trouble for you?"
"No. Anywhere sounds like a marvelous idea."
The former heiress gave another smile as she finally released her summon. Very pleased with the results.
"I'll tell Bastion to prepare the car. We'll be leaving in ten minutes, so hurry up" she left keeping her sweet smile.
"Older sisters are scary" he sighed.
Penny was flying through not that high from Mantle. It has been another busy day for the robotic girl. A few Grimm in the vicinity, nothing she can handle along with some minor things that were easy. It's been rather easy since the city border has been rebuilt and they added weapons in the watch towers. It didn't bother her when she was doing her job believing in Ironwood's will to protect the people and the kingdom. She just reported to the General her success and she was currently planning to return to Ruby and Laphicet. She hoped she didn't kept them waiting for too long. Some of the roof of the buildings caught her attention, there were something that looked like it was destroyed.
Using her scanners, she was shocked. They were military drones that patrol all over the city recording surveillance footage for any types of crimes. Mainly, if they do manage to locate the man responsible for the murders. Penny stopped still in the air of course she knew of the excess destruction of the devices but there were so many of them. Scanning through them again she was able to tell their number model. It was recent in fact, they were the latest models that were dispatched this week. The girl was shocked, this could mean that this was done recent. Maybe very recently. She needed to tell Ironwood immediately the fact was right in front of her. The chances were high that the killer could be somewhere around this area.
Just when she was about to contact the General she felt someone landed behind her. The robotic girl immediately started shaking him off, her eyes turned to her attacked. An Atlas military personnel she didn't had to think it because she knew this was the guy. Tyrian was grinning like a maniac behind the visor as he quickly touched the back of her neck. At it got covered by her long orange hair. Penny has finally had enough as she managed to threw him off of her. But the man, has landed on his feet gracefully on a nearby roof chuckling. She unleashed her swords as she blocked incoming fire, reaching for communicator.
"This is Penny. I have encountered the suspect, requesting immediate backup at the following coordinates!"
Tyrian was still grinning firing the rifle as the ginger head blocked with her blades. She countered releasing a sword at him as he jumped off from the roof. The scorpion faunus was chuckling as he was having so much fun, grabbing a water pipe from the building landing safely. He was running, knowing he couldn't stay in one place. The girl has contacted the military and it won't be long, before he's surrounded by hundreds of soldiers. As much fun as that would be, he still has his orders and mission he couldn't afford to get captured. Penny fired her green beam but she missed. This person is quick on his feet. He kept running through the streets passing the dark alleys and avoiding people.
"Stop!" she increased her speed flying right at him.
"You're not getting away!"
Tyrian was sure enjoying the chase even, if he enjoys a good fight. He came prepare to face the robotic girl. After all, Watts told him everything about Professor Poledina's creation. So he was aware what he was up against. The faunus in disguise fired a few shots from the assault rifle. A wicked grin spread his features as she caught up with him and her blades, the threads attached to them has wrapped themselves around him. It seems he this was it, he has been caught. The threads are strong so cutting them with his weapon won't do. He knew about and yet he wasn't worried in the slightest. In truth, he was expecting something like this would happened.
"Looks like you caught me."
"You will be judge for your crimes and you will pay for them" Penny's tone was deadly serious.
"Penny! Penny!"
The ginger head girl could hear Ruby and Laphicet's voices in the distance. They must be being accompanied by reinforcements of the military. Tyrian has already his move before getting caught by the threads. He was holding something and used it when she turned to him. Her eyes widened, it was round, metallic with many decorations and it was tilting red. It was too late to realize what it was as it exploded releasing a bright flashing light. It hit Penny right on her eyes as she was experience circuit difficulties with her optic system unable to see. A few seconds is all that needed for Tyrian to escape. The threads were lose when the flash bang hit the girl. He didn't even thought twice running off, without a word.
"Penny!"
Ruby and Laphicet arrived seeing the ginger head struggling. Behind them, a big group of Atlas soldiers.
"You okay?!" asked the red cloak girl.
"My optics seem to be malfunctioning wait, they're returning to normal…."
"Where's the suspect?" asked one of the soldiers.
"I lost him when he used that flash bang" Penny felt so bad he got away.
"Search the whole area! Every corner, every building!"
All of them left in a hurry while the two teens were still by the robot girl's side. The girl felt like she wanted to cry for her failure. She had the guy captured but she let her guard down. She wasn't expecting him would put a fast one on her.
"General Ironwood sir...I'm sorry…."
*It's all right Penny. You did your best. You were able to find that impostor when all of us have failed. Whether it was a coincidence or not, you did a job well done.* James' voice was heard on her communicator.
"Come on, let's help the military with the search" said Laphicet.
"Right. This isn't over" Ruby gave a nod.
Tyrian was still grinning preventing from chuckling or laughing like a mad man. He has ran for too long but he knew he couldn't stopped. A big proportion of the Atlas military must be searching for him by now. Maybe all of it. But he was still confident he managed to lose them. The faunus was somewhere in the underground passage that connects between the city and the slums. And even if they start searching here it will take them weeks because it was like a maze. The assault rifle was out of ammo so he didn't needed it anymore. It went better than he thought due that the plan was reckless. Looking to fight against such high tech weapon and able to escaped. He received an incoming call.
"It's done. I placed it in the exact part where you told me. It doesn't seem that bucket of bolts noticed."
*Good job. You know what to do now* it was obviously Watts.
"Lay low and wait until election night" he chuckled.
Watts ended the call as he closed his scroll. He was a guest in a study, seated with a cup of tea before him in a short table. Next to him stood Jacquess Schnee never expecting to see him again, alive anyway as he chose to visit the manor. The white haired man looked like he was still trying to come to terms that he wasn't dead. The former doctor and envoy of Salem gave him a kind smile. Resuming the conversation.
"Now, where were we?"
To be continued
-I would like to apologize to all of you. I am very sorry this chapter took so damn long. I can't believe it took me over 4 weeks to write. I guess I have been that busy and also I have been suffering from depression in the past weeks. It's okay, I'm feeling better now I'm upset this took too long when I usually finish a long chapter in a week. Anyway it's finally here. I decided to change the title because the chapter has nothing to do with the events that took place in the" Sparks" episode. Like I stated a long time ago, I intend to make my version of v7 a lot different from canon.
-The Qrow/Clover thing, I've been wanting to write it for so long. Specially after what happened to him thanks to CRWBY's bad writing and how they destroyed Qrow's character. Using their semblances to balance each other. The beginning of a beautiful friendship.
-Weiss/Whitley will be focus on in the next chapter. I basically want to unite the Schnee family since they've been so torn apart in canon and CRWBY isn't going to do a thing to fix their relationship. Guess it's up to me, no biggie.
-Weiss tearing Willow a new one, I wanted to do this for so long. Let's see if she can finally change for the better.
-Yes Arcanum giving a reference to Coeur Al' Aran's story of the same name.
-Next chapter will be a few surprises here and there. Not saying anything else.
-Replying to reviews:
*TheEmeraldMage- I will always be happy for your constant support thank you so much. Happy late Christmas and New Year.
*Guest- if I go with that I might have to consider a couple of girls for him, maybe a harem. Probably from characters I still haven't pair him up yet. But anyway I don't know, it's a nice idea though.
*Shadow Joestar- thank you as always.
*CT7567Rules- thanks but sadly it had to be way longer than that and for that I am sorry.
*Dante 101- agreed on everything it took them too long to reveal her backstory which leads me to believe they just came up with it when writing v8. It was never thought from the very start of the show. There's also evidence that they come up with things when writing a new volume never showing it was thought from the start. Like I said the best volume to introduce her backstory was 4 when she was hurt and without speaking her condition along with her story would have made the fans sympathize with her. Too late now. Thanks for the review.
*Jamieoeyes- I know o but it O don't like the Grimm Campaign. Any spin off's they made of RWBY I won't like them. The latest of the fairy tales I know I'm not going to like it.
-Time to to give my review on the latest episodes of the new volume. Since it's been a while and hopefully this Saturday we will ch10.
*V8 ch7 titled" War"- you know the one thing I wanted to see the most in this episode was the Atlas military fighting the horde of Grimm. But it was cut off and I face palmed, why do you have to do this CRWBY? I also wanted to see people getting killed by them but no. Everything got cut off, great job. Moving on to the second thing that annoyed me so much I still cringed whenever I think about it. While Atlas is under attack Ruby, Weiss and Blake are at the Schnee manor sitting, relaxing and drinking fucking tea. They arrived at the manor in ch4 and so far they have spent 4 freaking episodes there (I'm also counting ch8) why? We know they don't know of the attack yet then how about making them find out about it? For example the first episode showed a male reporter broadcasting the news of the current situation in Mantle. Couldn't they do that with Atlas? Show a reporter broadcasting the Grimm attack and then he gets scared off by one or gets eaten by one (I like this one lol) and suddenly one of the girls would want to turn the t.v. on to see the news to see what's going on and boom! They see Grimm attacking Atlas along with the reporter getting turned to Grimm chow and they will be forced to make a choice just like May said, help Atlas or help Mantle?
*Cont- May revealing she's trans and her parents didn't like her for it, I could care less because I don't know how does that contribute to the plot whatsoever. Another cringe scene is Weiss hugging Whitley because he called Klein to help Penny (he's a doctor now). So after how you have ignored him, pointing your weapon at him, told him to go to his room, didn't bother checking up on him while she spent time with her teammates and obviously he was sad she hugs him as if she cares for him now? Remember v7 when Willow told her" don't forget about your brother?" she sure did forget Willow, she sure did. It's official CRWBY has destroyed Weiss's character, I knew she wasn't going to be safe. Another scene I had to face palmed is Ren's semblance evolving so now he can tell how people feels from their emotions. Can someone tell me how does that will help him in a fight against Grimm? Anyone? Oh wait maybe he can see that the Grimm are filled with so much hate and realize they're bad, wow. The episode ends with Penny landing near the manor covered in green goo? How convenient. Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the last time we saw Penny falling was somewhere in the Tundra? Will CRWBY explain to us how she got to the Schnee manor? We may never find out. Anyway I don't remember much of the episode because it was that long since I saw it and I will not see it again. I didn't like it 4/10.
*V8 ch8 titled" Dark"- this episode could have been so good and scary, yet it failed at both. So Willow pops back in the picture (I don't care) suggesting how to help Penny and they do what she said. First cringe scene was Blake telling Ruby how much she looks up to her and I was like...WTF? I mean how many conversations Ruby and Blake have had in the whole series? Can someone give me a high number, because I'm pretty sure it's probably two or three? To me they don't have the same bonding level unlike Ruby and Weiss, or Blake and Yang. In other words only the partners of the time have that chemistry and bonding. Wait I'm wrong because Weiss and Yang had that conversation in v5 and I like that because it felt more real, more emotional. I'm glad the ice queen was there for her. Anyway the Hound shows up as expected, they can't stop it, Penny wakes up hacked (no surprise there), a lot of stuff happened that I won't bother saying moving on. The fighting was the second cringe thing from the episode. Blake fighting some sort of mantis-worm thingy with a big green belly (we know now where the green goo comes from) the way she was fighting it was so bad, she fought like a damn rookie it's like she never got training, like she never went to Beacon at all. What happened to the Blake from the Black trailer, to the one from v1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and so on. She got nerfed again, the only answer. The same with Ruby whose aura got lowered when the Hound hit her once, then she gets carried by a flying Grimm, she gets dropped on her ass and when she hits the ground her aura broke and was out. Blake telling her to wake up and help her because she's nerfed and it's not just her strength that got removed but her brain cells too because not a single minute she thought of shooting the big green belly, maybe it's the weakness of the creature, I don't know, plus the belly doesn't have armor so yeah possible place to attack and hurt it good. It's big and colorful, looks like a big target mark.
Cont- (my brain hurting from the cringe level why are they doing this?) Just like that she wakes up and attacks it saying" I could hear you". Weiss' summon got interrupted just because. Anyway Ruby finally uses her silver eyes it didn't turn the Hound to stone but instead destroys it's head, revealing a faunus with silver eyes (Ruby is the only one whose shocked that it can speak because it's really a person, maybe Blake and Weiss fought a talking Grimm before who was really a person) remember when Jaune, Yang and Ren were shocked and frightened hearing it speak? This time Ruby is the only one (I will bet a 100$ she didn't noticed the faunus had silver eyes). Now fans are coming up with theories that Summer Rose is alive and she will probably be turned into a Grimm. Honestly I like it way better than the theory of Summer being the Moon (I still laughing till this day). The Hound finally dies when Willow and Whitley throws a big statue resembling the armored Gigas summon of Weiss at it and it's big sword "conveniently" fell on it killing it along with a pile of it (double face palmed). So you mean to tell me the strongest Grimm and biggest threat gets killed off by a falling statue? Willow and Whitley were the MVP of the episode while Ruby, Weiss and Blake looked like weakling idiots and I hate seeing it because I love these characters. The episode ends with Cinder saving Watts from prison and I could care less I just want her dead already. Another 4/10.
V8 ch9 titled" Witch"- first of all I still haven't seen the episode but I have seen enough reviews and I'm not impressed another episode I didn't like. I will be skipping details but I will bring the important ones that got my attention. I'll start with Hazel doing an 180 after he saw Jinn deciding to help Oscar. I mean WTF man, aren't you going to ask her a question? We knew he was the one member whose motive for joining Salem was pretty weak but to just changed his mind and betray her just like that is downright stupid. Anyway Neo takes the lamp (we all knew she's going to hand it over to Cinder, again). Emerald uses her semblance on Oscar turning him into Hazel and both were able to deceived Salem (LMAO! I can't believe she felt for it, not once she suspected Hazel acting strange lol). He reunites with Jaune, Ren and Yang. I'll skip to the fight with Salem when she realized the lamp is gone and this…I have to face palmed. From the clips I saw the only thing that makes her a real threat is her immortality and creating Grimm. You think living for a thousand year she'll be able to master her elemental magic.
*Cont- now, I like when Hazel was beating the crap out of her, I enjoyed it a lot. Now I'll get to the one thing I hated the most of the episode. When Salem captured them in a magic circle thingy Yang's words have to be cringe level over 9000. Saying how much she lost because of her and I was like bitch what? Asides from Summer, Pyrrha doesn't count because she wasn't that close with her compare to Jaune, Ren and Nora. Who else did she lost to be such a poor victim? Her arm? that was on her for charging at Adam head first, her bike? She chose to throw it at the waterfall after hitting Adam with it. What did you lost to be the victim of a tragic tale? You're NOT! I swear I wanted to bang my head to a wall not believing CRWBY did this. Her father is still alive, her uncle is still alive, her younger sister is still alive, her dog is also alive so why did she told Salem like she has lost hundreds of loved ones because of her?! Raven? She doesn't count she chose to abandoned her for unknown reasons (to this day we STILL don't know why she left her and we may never know that is, if we ever see Raven again). Asides from that Hazel sacrificing himself just because I had a feeling he was going to die. Another good character with potential dies lol great job CRWBY. Then Emerald might get redeemed, a lot of people saw it coming ever since v6 and I think the writers did good in showing those signs that she was having second thoughts. But then again, she has always been loyal to Cinder and she has betrayed Salem so she's not really one of the good guys oh well. On another note I find it funny how useless Yang, Jaune and Ren were in this episode. They went in, killed like three Grimm, they didn't saved Oscar because it was Hazel and Emerald, they got owned by Salem and escaped with their lives. I was just like, for real? So nothing of the episode would have changed if they weren't there at all. Another thing I didn't like of the episode WHERE the hell are the Grimm? Just three Grimm, the inside of the whale should be filled with them and yet only three. Proves that they're nothing but cannon fodder who aren't a real threat, the Hound was the only one that can be considered such. Finally the deal with Yang mentioning Summer as her mother. The fact that she only mentions her once back in v2 (Burning the Candle) and then she says nothing about her and we only see with the mindset of finding Raven. The sings were clear Yang didn't show that much affection for Summer. We know how Ruby feels for her she even visited her grave twice (Red Trailer and v3 ch1). But what about Yang? Has she visited her grave? It has never been shown. But six volumes later she mentions Summer again claiming she's her mom (CRWBY you're too late to convince me Summer matters to her). I'm done I give it a 3/10 because of Yang's cringy speech.
-Haven't seen ch10 yet but from what I've heard oh boy, it's a worst episode than previous. Not to mention there's yet another cringy Bumblebee scene ugh.
-Off topic I pray safety of the people of Texas that are still recovery from the snow storm and still don't have power and water. Along with everyone from RT stay safe and take care.
-As always thank you very much for the reviews, favs and follows I really appreciate it.
Next time: A not so normal day part 2
