Season 5: Beginning of the Invasion
Episode 18 (79): Steam Team vs. Changeling Army
The resistance is booming, castle guards were refining their armor and sharpening their weapons, the Earth ponies were flexing their muscles and preparing for the final leg to the fight, every species is preparing for the fight of their lives. The Steam Team looked at everyone who's preparing for the main event.
Thomas: This is going to be a game changer for Equestria if we do this right.
Princess Luna: I concur Sir Thomas, this will be a test for all of them that's for sure, they've never faced a threat this big in their lives, so let's hope there aren't any casualties throughout this conflict.
Thomas: There won't be Princess Luna, not on my watch.
James: Your watch? Whoa, what's with the change in attitude.
Thomas: James, this is serious, we can't afford to screw this up anymore. We need to be ready whenever the chance provides.
Thomas then walks away to watch the others prepare, leaving some of them with a confused look.
James: Did any of you see what I just saw!
Edward: Your eyes don't deceive you James, Thomas has gotten a lot more serious when this operation began, something is going on with Thomas.
Percy: But what's wrong with him.
Edward: I don't know, but maybe some talking could get something out of him, in the meantime Percy, find Sunset and maybe the princesses if I can't get anything out of him.
Percy: Certainly.
So Percy walks off to find Sunset and the princesses while Edward finds Thomas, leaving the others.
Gordon: Now this is something I'm not used to, Thomas being serious about this.
Rebecca: I'm just as shocked as you, what's going on with him.
Henry: Well, let's hope Edward can get to the bottom of what's just happened.
Edward tried to find Thomas, and he found him when he was overlooking the catapults.
Edward: Thomas?
Thomas: Edward, what are you doing here?
Edward: I came here to see you.
Thomas: Okay, why?
Edward: Well, I'm just questioning on how you're acting right now. Not to say that I'm being rude to you, I'm just curious on why you've suddenly being serious about this whole operation.
Thomas: Oh, well, I just want this operation to go right, no wrongs, no mistakes, no issues, I want this to go on until the end. I'm trying to not let Equestria be the next dead Magic Railroad. If that happens, all of Equestria will be under Chrysalis' control and no one will be free from her conquest. I know Celestia made me the next heir to aid Twilight's throne, and I'm just trying to live up to their expectations.
Edward: I see, well, I'm sure the others will understand how you feel.
Then, Percy brought Sunset and the Princesses to the two.
Percy: I brought them like you said Edward.
Sunset Shimmer: What's going on Edward?
Edward: Well, Thomas was acting serious because….
Pony Pinkie: He just wants this fight to go right, no wrongs and no mistakes, that he wants this to go on until the end, he wants to prevent Equestria be the next dead Magic Railroad, and if that happens, Chrysalis will take over worldwide and Thomas is trying to live up to Celestia's expectations.
Celestia and the princesses were surprised that Thomas is trying to prove his worth to them, and that made Cadence and Celestia smile.
Princess Celestia: Well now, I must admit, you've truly been a hard worker in trying to help the resistance stop the changeling army. I'm very proud of you Thomas.
Thomas: (Blushes) Thank you Celestia. But, I don't know if my best will be good enough.
Princess Cadence: Don't be like that, you've helped the resistance in more ways than none, and right now, the resistance is booming. You, Sunset and the Steam Team have contributed so much and has helped so much, so much so that we're ready to stand up to the changeling army and Chrysalis. We want to thank you for all you've done.
Thomas: Thank you princesses, for everything.
Princess Celestia: You're welcome Thomas, you're truly ready to assist Twilight in ruling Equestria.
Shining Armor: Your highness, the battalion is ready and the resistance is ready to take the fight to Chrysalis.
Princess Celestia: I see, then it's time. Thomas, you'll lead the Steam Team and Sunset in front, while we'll lead the rest of the battalion.
Thomas: Yes, your highness, we won't let you down. Alright Steam Team, let's give the changelings hell and make sure they never invade Equestria again. Let's show them the power of the Steam Team!
Edward, Gordon, James, Rebecca, Henry, Percy, Emily, Nia & Toby: Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!
During the duration of the time, everyone is ready, the Steam Team were ready, the princesses gave them satchels for them to hold their weapons and sheaths to hold their swords for storage and are attached to the waistbands. The door opens up and all the resistance warriors walked out: Others (Discord, Zecora, Iron Will, Ahuizotl, Capper & Grubber), Griffons (Gallus & Gilda), Earth ponies (Applejack, Pinkie Pie, Sandbar, Rockhoof & Mage Meadowbrook), Dragons (Smolder, Ember & Garble), Yaks (Yona & Prince Rutherford), Changelings (Ocellus, Thorax & Pharynx), Unicorns (Rarity, Charlet, Star Swirl, Shining Armor, Mistmane, Stygian & Tempest Shadow), Hippogriffs (Silverstream, Sky Beak & Queen Novo), Pegasi (Rainbow Dash, Short Fuse, Somnambula, Fluttershy, Rolling Thunder, Flash Sentry, Daring Do & Flash Magnus) and Alicorns (Princess Twilight, Celestia, Cadence, Luna & Lady). Thomas looked out across Ponyville and to Canterlot, when Discord popped in.
Discord: So, future prince of Equestria, what's your command for this mission.
Thomas: We won't be holding back that's for sure, and let's try to limit your chaos magic to make this a fair fight.
Discord: Whatever you say, oh great Sir Thomas.
Shining Armor walked over to Thomas.
Thomas: Shining Armor, how's the battalion?
Shining Armor: Primed and ready to strike.
Thomas: Perfect, we might need a temporary camp for soldiers in case they're injured or need rest.
Tempest Shadow: That doesn't sound like a bad idea, we could use that as a local checkpoint, though temporary. We need to play this smart, no setbacks, otherwise they'll wipe the floor with us.
Thomas: That can't happen, alright everyone, we need to fight like our lives depend on it. Our objectives are clear: Stop Chrysalis and her changeling army and not let them get the edge over us. Hippogriffs and griffons, you'll use your claws, Changelings, you use your shapeshifting to get the edge and distract them, Dragons, you may use your fire to keep them at bay. Ponies, your knowledge of the earth, magic and sky will help turn the tide of the war. If they throw in bruisers, we'll need the strongest fighters to take them down. We need everything in our arsenal to take them down. Who's with me!
The army cheered at Thomas' speech, they're ready to fight the changelings.
Thomas: For Equestria!
The army raced out of the resistance as they charge towards Chrysalis' hideout. Meanwhile, in the Canterlot castle, Chrysalis is looking at her vast army of changelings and a few big bruisers, ready for the final fight.
Queen Chrysalis: My changelings, the time has come to put your metal against the resistance. No more setbacks, they made us fall back time and time again, but not anymore, if they want a war, then they got themselves a war. Show then no mercy, show them what we changelings can do and lay waste to anyone that you see, it's time for Equestria's downfall, arise my armada and attack!
The changelings hissed, flapped their wings and flew through the castle' catacombs on their way to the resistance army. Meanwhile, the resistance is traveling through Ponyville looking for Chrysalis.
Thomas: Keep a sharp lookout everyone, you may never know if she sent in her changeling army.
Yona: Yona not like changelings, they creep Yona out.
Smolder: Relax Yona, you'll be able to crush those bugs really quick.
Suddenly, they hear faint buzzing coming from far in the horizon.
Sandbar: (Gulps) Here they come.
Lady: Get ready everyone.
Starlight Glimmer: There's no going back from this, we either fight or die trying.
The changeling army arrived and everyone readied themselves.
Thomas: Alright everyone, attack!
Everyone charged at the changelings as they clashed, leaving Mage, Sky Beak, Queen Novo, Somnambula and Shining.
Queen Novo: What do we do now Shining Armor.
Shining Armor: We need to build a base camp so that way it'll give the tired soldiers rest and a place to treat any injured soldiers treated.
Mage Meadowbrook: Alright, me and Somnambula will help gather the materials, Novo and Sky Beak will help with the construction.
Sky Beak: Certainly Ms. Meadowbrook, we'll bring the materials in.
Somnambula: What about you Shining Armor.
Shining Armor: I'm gonna assist them in the fight, you guys keep working, I'll have a few of the Canterlot guard keep watch.
Shining raced off with some of the Canterlot guard right by him, while some keep watch of the camp builders. Meanwhile, Celestia, Luna, and Cadence were firing their magic at changelings flying at them.
Princess Luna: Those changelings are so uncivilized.
Princess Cadence: We need to keep up the pace, otherwise the armada will be swamped.
Princess Celestia: Then let's bring up the ante!
As the princesses continue firing at the airborne changelings, Rockhoof is busy making a trench for the unicorns firing their magic while the Pegasi try to keep the changelings at bay: Rainbow, Fluttershy, Rolling Thunder, Short Fuse, Daring Do, Flash Sentry & Magnus were keeping the changelings away from Rockhoof.
Rockhoof: Keep it up Pegasi, a little more and the trench will be done.
Pony Rainbow: You said it Rockhoof, keep at it Pegasi, we need to keep these bugs away from him!
Rolling Thunder: I can't believe I'm saying this mate, but you got it you rainbow bloke!
Short Fuse: Should we really….
Flash Magnus: Less talk, more fighting you guys.
Rolling Thunder: It's best not to question it mate, let's get flying!
Pony Flash: How's the trench coming along Rockhoof.
Rockhoof: Just a little more and I'll be done.
Pony Flash: We need to hurry, Fluttershy, Daring Do, you're with me, we need to keep these changelings off of him until he finishes the trench.
Pony Flutters: Oh no, I don't know about this.
Daring Do: Come on Fluttershy, we can do this together, we need everyone's strength if we're gonna fight them to the bitter end.
Pony Flutters: (Exhales) Okay, I'll give it my all.
Daring Do: That's what I like to hear, let's fly.
Gilda: Don't forget about me, I want in on this.
Daring Do: Well, let's do this Gilda
As the Pegasi and Gilda continue their assault on thwarting the changelings at Rockhoof's trench work, Rutherford, Pharynx, Thorax, Ember & Garble were charging and fighting the changeling army as best they can. Rutherford was charging like a mad bull at the changelings plowing into each and every one of them.
Prince Rutherford: Changelings get out of Equestria!
Pharynx: Yo Prince, it's gonna take more than a simple mad charge to take them down, it takes magic, speed and a simple shapeshifting.
He shapeshifts into a monstrous bug creature as he battles them.
Thorax: Umm sorry about how about my brother talks, he's like that back before he changed.
Prince Rutherford: Rutherford not bothered by Pharynx, all Rutherford cares about is hurting disgusting changelings! Yak Charge!
As Rutherford, Pharynx and Thorax fight the changelings, Ember and Garble joined in.
Ember: You guys need air support.
Thorax: Thanks Ember, we could use it.
Ember: Garble, you use your fire to keep them at bay, while the rest of us continue with the assault.
Garble: You're the boss ma'am. Let's have ourselves some scorched bug, uhh no offense Thorax.
Thorax: None taken Garble.
As Garble uses his fire to keep the changelings at bay and leave a few with singe marks on them, while Rutherford, Thorax, Pharynx and Ember fought them. As more changelings pour in, some were poofed and came back stuck in giant cupcakes, it was Discord.
Discord: (Scoffs) Please, I can do all of this with my eyes closed, there's hardly a fair fight.
That's when some changeling brutes came in to assist them, surprising Discord.
Discord: Me and my big mouth.
Ahuizotl: Worry about that later my draconequus friend, let's give them a can of whoop ass.
Iron Will: Now that's my kind of language, it's clobbering time!
As they come in, Iron Will charged in with his horns to bash them back, while Ahuizotl used his arms and tail to bash and throw them far. Capper and Zecora arrived to give them backup.
Capper: Care for more extra hands.
Ahuizotl: Would love some my friends.
Zecora: Let's get going my cat friend.
Capper: I couldn't agree more.
The two join Ahuizotl and Iron Will in the fight, while Twilight and Lady are fighting more changelings with not just their magic, flight but also the help of Lady's gold dust powers, she fires a beam of gold from her horn at them.
Princess Twilight: I really wish to study that gold dust Lady.
Lady: (Chuckles) I would love to help you Twilight, but right now we have changelings to deal with.
Princess Twilight: Right, right, sorry force of habit of mine.
While the alicorns are busy tangling their changelings, Rockhoof has finished the trench so that Rarity, Shining Armor, Tempest, Mistmane, Star Swirl, Starlight, Stygian and Charlet to fire their magic and back behind the trench, Applejack was using her lasso to grab some changelings, threw them at the direction of Pinkie's party cannon.
Pony Pinkie: Fire in the hole!
She fired her cannon and sent the changelings flying back.
Pony AJ: Shoo-wee, that's some mighty fine shooting you got there.
Pony Pinkie: Why thank you Apple-J, I am to please.
Shining Armor: Keep firing you guys, we need every ounce of ammo we have.
Star Swirl the Bearded: Mistmane, let's show these changelings what us Pillars can really do.
Mistmane: You said it Star Swirl.
As the unicorns were firing, Rarity was close to exhaustion.
Pony Rarity: (Panting) All this firing is making me sweat up a storm.
Stygian: Don't give up Rarity, the fate of Equestria hangs in the balance.
Charlet: Stygian's right Rarity, we need to keep going.
Pony Rarity: You're right, I shan't give up, time to show these changelings not to mess with Rarity.
Charlet: Nice words of encouragement Stygian.
Stygian: (Blushes, chuckles) I am to please, miss Charlet.
She chuckled giddily, and as the unicorns continue firing, Tempest used her damaged horn to fire at the changelings which makes an explosion sending changelings flying. Meanwhile, Yona, Smolder, Ocellus, Gallus, Silverstream & Sandbar were fighting changelings together as a team, Gallus and Silverstream tag teaming using their claws and the speed of their wings to get away and attack the changelings.
Gallus: You know, the two of us working together, would be all the sweeter.
Silverstream: Ooh, that would be awesome, and let's get sweets when this is over.
Gallus: Yeah, sure.
Smolder: Guys, we can discuss sweets another time, right now we have changelings to scramble. Ocellus, with me!
Ocellus: Umm, sure.
Smolder: (Sighs) Look, I know you don't like fighting that much, but right now, you have to fight your brethren, I hope you understand.
Ocellus: Oh, alright.
She shapeshifted into a monster bug as she fought the changelings, while Smolder breathes her fire at them. Yona is ramming every changeling in her way with Sandbar riding her like a bull.
Sandbar: Whoo-whoo! Ride 'em cowboy!
Yona: Yona big yak, but Yona behaves like bucking bull! Yona likes it!
Just as the Young 6 were gaining the upper hand, changeling brutes came in and bashed the six back as they landed on the ground. The brutes slowly close in until…
Percy: Booyakasha!
They look to see Sunset and Steam Team jumping over the Young Six, as Gordon, Henry and Thomas tackle some of the brutes.
James: Just in the nick of time, you guys need to get to the base camp and rest up, while the fight still rages on.
Sandbar: Yeah, that seems reasonable, come on you guys, let's let the Steam Team take care of them.
Silverstream: Go get 'em you guys!
Gordon: We'll do our best Silverstream, now get going.
The Young 6 left the Steam Team and Sunset alone, leaving the brutes to face them.
Changeling Brute #1: You don't scare us.
Rebecca: Oh, really, well why don't you come face us then.
Changeling Brute #1: Very well then, attack!
The brutes charged at the Steam Team and Sunset as they charged at them. Sunset was swinging her sword at the changelings and firing her magic at them.
Sunset Shimmer: These guys don't quit.
She keeps fighting, but she's slowly overwhelmed, until Emily threw an explosive shuriken at them and exploded.
Emily: I got this Sunset, you help the others while the Steam Team takes care of the brutes.
Sunset Shimmer: Sure thing Emily.
Sunset left to help the other resistance allies, while Emily used her katana to fight against a few brutes, and even using her wings, she managed to gain some distance and throw her explosion Shurikens at them which explodes the brutes away. A couple more starts coming in until she flew up, ready to use her element of harmony.
Emily: Alright, let's see what my Element can do.
Suddenly, an orange color started glowing on her hooves, which Emily is surprised.
Emily: Interesting, time to use this to my advantage.
She brought her front hooves back as it starts creating energy, her eyes then glowed orange. As the brutes start coming towards her, she knows that it's now or never.
Emily: Here goes nothing, time for you brutes to feel the burn, Crystal Beam!
She fired an orange beam from her hooves at the brutes, which sent them flying back but firing it at the ground brutes. The beam stopped and Emily looked at what she did.
Emily: Now that's an achievement, if I do say so myself.
As Emily continues fighting, Henry was using his hooves to swing his Nunchucks and knock around many brutes. When they start coming in, he dodges and uses his plant powers to create vines which sprout from the ground, grabbed a bunch of brutes and started slamming them on the ground and sending them crashing into more brutes. As his plants continue thwarting the changelings, Henry got his front hooves back as he powers them up as a gray ball of energy starts forming as his eyes turn grey.
Henry: Get ready to eat lead bugs, Metallic Mayhem!
The plants disappear, as a grey beam was shot from his hooves as it hits the changelings sending them flying, creating a trail of fallen brutes.
Henry: Let's see how the others go on.
As Henry continues fighting, Rebecca is fighting more brutes as she uses magic to swing her spear at them, making them fly back after they're hit. Along with that, she uses her hooves to fire sun beams at the brutes. As more keep coming, Rebecca made her entire body glow bright yellow, blinding the brutes and that's when her hooves created orbs of sun energy and threw them at the changelings which exploded.
Rebecca: Is that all you guys got, time to show you guys my beam attack, Outstanding Sun!
She brought her hooves back as a dark yellow ball of energy started forming as dark yellow colored her eyes, she then fired that beam at the brutes sending them flying and crashing to the ground.
Rebecca: That's how it's done.
She then sees Thomas fighting a bunch of brutes.
Rebecca: Go get 'em Thomas.
Thomas was using his agility and martial art skills to fight against the brutes, along with performing a bunch of attacks, he slammed his front hooves into the ground, creating cracks into the ground, which shot out golden power sending changelings flying. As more pour in and attack, Thomas brought up his shield to deflect the attacks, not after sending orbs of Gold Dust at the changelings, exploding on contact.
Thomas: (Panting) They've just keep coming, but I won't give up. For Equestria and for Canterlot, I will not give up, not now, not ever!
He brought out his knight sword, and started slashing at the changelings, and as more come, he then used his hooves to fire golden beams at them, which sent them screaming away. He then used telekinesis to wrap around several changelings and slam them into each other.
Thomas: (Panting) That should do it.
But then he was dogpiled by a bunch more brutes, and that's when Thomas had had enough, a golden blast was exuded, sending changelings flying as Thomas is covered in a golden aura and his eyes turned to gold. He flew up into the sky as he powered up his horn.
Thomas: That's it, you're all going down! Golden Matrix!
He fired a massive golden beam at the changelings which sent them flying back. Meanwhile, James is gliding above them while on his skates, along with fighting them with his ax. He was doing well until a brute kicked his back and sent him crashing to the ground.
James: Hey cheap shot, you asked for this bug.
He brought his horn out as a brown ball of energy start forming, along with brown covering his eyes.
James: Kame-kame-ha!
He fired a brown beam at the changelings, as they fly away in the distance. James smirked and looked at the aftermath.
James: How do you like that, you bugs.
Percy: You kinda went a bit overboard on that giant beam there, but time to show you what I can do.
Percy was using his fighting skills, agility and arm blasters to blaze right through every changeling that's coming after him, and even utilizing his teleportation to get himself out of tight situations. One final teleportation made Percy be on a rocky outcropping as he aims his horn at them.
Percy: Time for you bugs to be sent back to your hive, Purple Plasma Surge!
His horn powered up purple as his eyes glowed purple as well, he then shot a massive beam at the changelings. Nia came in and whacked a bunch of changelings with her Bo staff, and as more keep coming, she transitions to her sword as she slices changelings away and used her magic to work her bow and fire multiple explosives arrows at them. To make sure they get the message, she powered up her horn dark green as her eyes turn dark green as well.
Nia: Alright changelings, I think it's time to show you all a move, that I've taught myself.
As more brutes start coming in, she aimed her horn at them as a dark green energy orb started forming.
Nia: I've walked the path of a true warrior, this is the power of mankind! Shinku-Hadoken!
She fired a dark green beam at the brutes which sent them back far in the distance. She looked up seeing what she did.
Nia: There is no honor in fighting on the wrong side.
Toby: You're not wrong there, but there's still more where that came from.
Toby is fighting his own group of brutes, as he used his magic to swing his scythe. Along with fighting with his scythes, he used his front hooves to slam in the ground creating large tree roots to ensnare, grab and throw brutes away. He was doing fine until a brute kicked him into a tree.
Toby: Ow, alright, you changelings need to be taught a lesson.
He aimed his horn at the brutes as a magenta ball started forming along with magenta covering his eyes.
Toby: Time to show you my true power, Nature's Spirit Beam!
He fired a magenta beam at the brutes, to which they were sent flying away. Toby looked on seeing the changelings groaning from the attack.
Toby: (Panting, Sighs) They just don't know that they're outclassed for this fight.
Edward: Don't underestimate them Toby, they might have something up their bug-like legs.
Edward is fighting his group of brutes, with his martial arts skills and his arm blasters. With his skills, he's making mincemeat against the brutes, but he then sees them coming at him in full speed, knowing he might be outmatched, he aimed his horn as a pink energy ball starts forming as well as his eyes turning pink.
Edward: You should know to never underestimate the oldies, Plasma Bolt!
He fired a pink beam at the brutes, to which they were screaming from the impact as they were sent flying away.
Edward: This is gonna be a lot harder that I thought.
Gordon: You may think so, but we must keep fighting, and not let the changelings get the better of us.
Gordon has gotten a big advantage over the brutes, using his flight and his super speed, he's able to blaze right through them, and with his hammer, is able to smash, smack and pound any changeling in his path. He then used his speed to create a small twister of wind to suck up some of the changelings and fling them far.
Gordon: Hardly a challenge.
But his words would come back to bite him, when more start coming.
Gordon: These runts keep coming, time to take this up a notch!
His eyes turned navy blue as he brought his hooves back as a navy blue energy ball started forming.
Gordon: Silver Star Flare!
He fired a navy blue beam at the changelings to which they were sent flying away. As the fight rages on, Celestia and Luna were watching the Steam Team from the air, there's a certain sparkle that was shone from her eye.
Princess Luna: Something you see sister.
Princess Celestia: Yes, the Steam Team has really proven time and time again, they've shown some really good potential. I believe they shall be rewarded with something more to give them the edge in every fight.
Princess Luna: Really now, like an extra power.
Princess Celestia: Certainly Luna, but if they should prove their worth, they need to take a little spirit journey to get their power upgrade.
Princess Luna: Well then, then the Steam Team's spirit journeys should be something special, but let's finish this war before they can start.
Princess Celestia: You said it sister.
The resistance continues to fight the changelings as the war rages on.
