Addendum 9

Today is Hiccup's fifteenth birthday. Or, as close to it as we can get this year, anyway.

He's still completely unresponsive. I prayed he'd be awake by his birthday, but that has not come to pass, unfortunately… It's kind of funny, I can't remember the last time I've prayed so much… Probably not since the year after Valka died. The gods don't seem to be listening too closely, but at least Hiccup is still here…

But for this birthday, since it's… unusual, I've decided to do something extra special. I want Hiccup to have something to remember about this day, even if he wasn't exactly there to experience it. So, I've asked each of the other kids in his generation to stop by, and leave a little message in this book. Then, when Hiccup is back to his old self, he'll see them.

Old self… what am I saying? He's never going to be his old self again… Augh, I need to stop. I can't be thinking so negatively.

I just hope the other kids will be willing to go along with my idea. Then again, I am the chief; I'll MAKE them go along with it! ...Perhaps that's a bit much. But my point still stands. I don't exactly know how well they got along with Hiccup, but if the way they all listened to his instruction during the battle is any indication, they must have formed some kind of respect for him. So I'm hoping that even if their relationships weren't all that good for the majority of their lives, they'll still be able to write something nice now.
