This is another movie review. I know, it's been a long time, almost a whole year since the last one. But although cases of Covid are dropping and movie theaters are opening back up, this isn't one in theaters. It never went to theaters (okay I lied. It went to selective theaters) and it's not from this year. This film came out last October, but I still remember it quite well and want to talk about it. This film is an animated Netflix film. It's Over the Moon.
The reason why I remember it is because it's a good film. It's a family film that deals with family and loss. It's a heartfelt musical.
This film takes place in China. A girl named Fei Fei lives with her mom and dad. They love making mooncakes for the Mooncake Festival (a holiday in China we learned from Francine's adopted parents). The mama tells her daughter a story of the moon goddess, Chang'e and how she waits for her one true love. With Fei Fei's pet rabbit, Bungee, she and unexpected guests travels to the moon to see Chang'e and prove to everyone that she's real.
Over the Moon is another Pearl Studio's work after Dreamwork's Abombible It is dedicated to a writer who died two years before it came out. She wrote it for her husband and daughter to remember her. Awe, isn't that sweet?
Since this is set in China, we saw it with Franvine's parents over Zoom. We were thinking about seeing it before, but Francine wanted to see it with her parents, so we waited and saw it on Chinese New Year (the 12th and it's the Year of the Ox). Most of the family loved it and we learned about the Moon Festival (Francine knew of it before because of course she did. I think we did too, but we forgot about it or we ignored it when they talked about it). We knew of the Chinese New Year though. Everyone knows that, but did you know it's also sometimes the Korean New Year too like this year and next year as well? We didn't either until we looked online. You learn something new every day.
This film is better then Abombible in my opinion. It was much more memorable and more lovable characters (especially the pet bunny, Bungee. Hayley thought she was the cutest bunny she ever saw and wanted to cuddle her). Pearl Studios got another film on the way, but in the meantime, see this gorgeous, heart- warming, family musical film. You're be over the moon!
Oh and yay for my 100th blog! Thanks for reading about my blog and making it this far! I'll do more, don;t know how many, but I'll do it!
