Chapter 105: Hunting Part 4

Heya everyone. I hope you all are well and keeping safe.

To be honest, this month hasn't been the best for me and it seems like one bad thing after another keeps happening. It's been a difficult start to 2021 for me and I'm hoping that things get better.

One of the few positives that I've had this month is that this story has now passed 850 reviews! Thank you so much to those of you who have posted reviews that have helped this story reach this landmark and I'd like to especially thank those of you who have posted multiple reviews and regular reviews. I know I say this quite often, but I do mean it, because I really appreciate all of your feedback.

I'd also like to give a special thanks to Gadget30thAnniversery, Lilly The Omega Wolf, Turbo the Cat and Sakura0410 for your recent reviews that helped The Wave of Darkness hit the 850-review milestone. I'm glad that you're looking forward to what is going to happen with Metalseadramon following the cliff-hanger that I ended the previous chapter on. We're going to pick up right where that chapter ended …

Davis took in a deep breath as he focused on the increasing glow forming in Metalseadramon's nose. His cannon was pointing straight at them as he powered up his attack. Davis tightened his grip on Imperialdramon's back as time felt like it was coming to a standstill.

"River of Power!" Metalseadramon fired his blue beam straight at the Chosen. Imperialdramon tried to dive out of the way but he was too close to evade the energy cascading towards him. It exploded on contact, sending the large dragon crashing towards the fields in the valley below.

Davis held on tightly as he heard some of his friends scream. He could see the ground coming towards them as Imperialdramon tried to regain some control of his flight path. They started to level out, prompting him to glance back just as a second explosion rang in the goggle-head's ears.

Metalseadramon scored another hit and the blast sent Imperialdramon smashing into the ground. The Digidestined held on and they were nearly knocked loose by the impact as the giant dragon skidded across a field, leaving a gouge in it. He finally came to a stop, groaning and unable to get to his feet as he tried to shake off the attacks and protect the Digidestined on his back.

Davis looked over his shoulder at Metalseadramon and held his breath as he watched the metallic monster fly down into the valley. He stopped and towered over where Imperialdramon had crashed, making it clear that he knew exactly where they were. Davis had no idea how their foe had found them or been able to hit them because they weren't making any noise and their barriers had all been in place.

"I thought that I could smell something rotten spoiling things." Metalseadramon's twisted laugh echoed through the valley as a sadistic sneer spread across his face. "I've finally found you, Digidestined. I don't know what tricks you're playing but I know how to stop you and I will finish you off right here and now."

"No! Not again," Keiko gasped as tears started rolling down her cheeks. "Not again!"

Davis grabbed her hand and held it tightly before he pulled her into a hug. "We'll get out of this. We've been in worse situations and escaped before, and we'll do the same again this time."

"Let's go, guys." Hawkmon took to the air. "We can distract him long enough for Imperialdramon to recover. Hawkmon digivolve to Aquilamon! Aquilamon digivolve to Silphymon!"

"I'm right behind you." Armadillomon jumped off Imperialdramon's back as light engulfed his body. "Armadillomon digivolve to Ankylomon! Ankylomon digivolve to Shakkoumon!"

"I want a bit of revenge for eight years ago." Gomamon followed after his friends. "Gomamon digivolve to Ikkakumon! Ikkakumon digivolve to Zudomon!"

"Don't worry, Keiko. I won't let him hurt any of our friends ever again!" Keiko's Salamon sprinted after the other Digimon as light from her partner's digivice surrounded her body. "Salamon digivolve to Mikemon! Mikemon digivolve to Lynxmon!"

Silphymon formed a ball of energy in his hands before throwing it at Metalseadramon. "Static Force!"

"Kachina Bombs!" Shakkoumon fired several clay discs from an opening in his waist's armour.

Zudomon roared as he slammed his massive hammer straight into the ground, creating a lightning-like spark that flew directly at Metalseadramon. "Vulcan's Hammer!"

"Thermal Mane!" The flames around Lynxmon grew before he launched them in the direction of their foe, hoping that it would be enough to stop him.

Metalseadramon snaked under Silphymon's attack before weaving around Zudomon's. A few Kachina Bombs struck his metallic skin but he shook it off before Lynxmon's attack hit him. The flames engulfed part of his body, making him grimace but it wasn't anywhere near strong enough to stop him.

The Chosen Digimon followed up with another volley of attacks, forcing the sadistic serpent to duck and weave once again. He retaliated by firing his blue energy straight at Silphymon, which made the Digidestined hold their breaths. The humanoid bird-like Digimon just managed to dodge the beam, looping up over it before corkscrewing away as Metalseadramon tried to follow him. The other Chosen Digimon weren't going to let him get their friend and launched another salvo to force the metal monster to break off his attack.

"We need to get down so Imperialdramon can join in the battle." Ken got to his feet. "We've got no chance against Metalseadramon if we're only fighting him with four ultimate Digimon."

"Right." Davis nodded in agreement before he stood up too. He helped Keiko to her feet before the Digidestined stepped into the blue light that gently carried them off Imperialdramon's back and down to the field below. Once they were off, the giant dragon groaned and finally recovered enough to make it back to his feet.

Davis unclipped his digivice and pointed it at his partner. "Time for some payback."

Ken nodded, mirroring his friend before the light of digivolution erupted from their gadgets. "Definitely."

"Imperialdramon mode changed to Imperialdramon Fighter Mode!" The light faded away to reveal the familiar humanoid version of the dragon who was primed for battle. He took to the air and flew out of the barrier around the Digidestined. The cannon on his wrist lit up before he fired a blue beam with purple energy spiralling around it towards Metalseadramon. "Positron Laser!"

Davis watched as the beam cascaded straight for its target and he hoped that they'd be able to score a direct hit. He growled in frustration as Metalseadramon barrel-rolled over it before firing back with his own attack. Imperialdramon flew upwards into the sky, dodging the beam that exploded as it hit some woodland not too far away from the Digidestined.

"I'm going to set up my laptop so that we can use it to escape," Joe informed the others as he quickly slipped his bag off his back. He pulled out his computer before opening it up so that the digiport software was on the screen. "I don't know how long we'll be able to hold out against Metalseadramon. We've struggled against him with two mega Digimon in the past, so it could only be a matter of time before we have to get out of here."

"Good idea." Davis nodded before he used his digivice to open the gateway. "We definitely could do with some kind of exit strategy if we can't defeat him quickly by ourselves."

"All of the Deep Ones and evil Digimon in this area are coming our way," Ken announced, capturing everyone's attention. "It won't be long before we're going to be surrounded."

"Zudomon," Joe yelled out to his partner who was standing in a defensive position in front of the Digidestined, providing them with protection in case Metalseadramon did try to attack them. "Make sure that the others know that we need them to create a chance for us to escape and get to safety using our emergency escape plan."

"Understood." The large Digimon nodded before signalling to Silphymon. Zudomon quickly passed on the message before he returned to firing his attacks at Metalseadramon while Silphymon informed the others of what they needed to do.

Davis' gaze returned to the battle and he saw Imperialdramon just miss their foe's head with another beam. Metalseadramon fired back in his direction, making the humanoid dragon corkscrew over the attack before his friends came to his aid. The metal monster was forced to arc and dive to avoid Silphymon's energy balls and Shakkoumon's Kachina Bombs. Lynxmon's flames gave him no choice but to fly back up into the sky and in the direction of Imperialdramon once more. He fired his beam, just missing as the sadistic serpent coiled over it and prepared to retaliate.

Zudomon took his chance and used his hammer to create another spark the streaked across the sky towards Metalseadramon. The evil sea snake was too busy dodging Imperialdramon's attack and firing back with his own beam that he didn't see it coming. It hit him on his side, burning his metallic skin and making him wince from the pain. Metalseadramon quickly broke off again as Zudomon and the other Chosen Digimon followed up, pushing home the slight opening.

Explosions echoed through the valley as the fight continued and wave after wave of attacks were exchanged between the battling Digimon. Davis held tightly onto Keiko's hand, keeping her close and doing his best to make sure that she was ok. He knew that watching her friends die when they were ambushed by Metalseadramon was at the forefront of her mind and he didn't want her to have to go through something like that again. The goggle-head was determined to make sure that everyone was going to get out of this safely.

The numbers game looked like it was starting to play into the Chosen's favour as Davis continued to watch the battle. Imperialdramon constantly fired his beam at Metalseadramon, forcing their foe towards the attacks of the ultimate level Digimon. They were scoring a few hits here and there, and it was beginning to show on the metallic monster's skin.

Metalseadramon looped over another Positron Laser from Imperialdramon and suddenly found himself face to face with the other four Chosen Digimon. They all fired their attacks simultaneously at their foe, giving him no chance to avoid all of them and Imperialdramon's relentless assault. The attacks exploded as they struck the sea serpent, sending him flying through the air and towards the ground.

"That's it!" Davis cheered as it looked like they were finally getting the upper hand and that this might be their chance to escape. The thought even crossed his mind that they might actually be able to defeat Metalseadramon right here and now.

That hope was suddenly dashed as Davis saw blue energy forming in Metalseadramon's nose once more. He regained control of his flight path and coiled around another beam from Imperialdramon before taking aim at his target. He fired straight at Shakkoumon, scoring a direct hit that exploded on contact.

"Shakkoumon!" Cody shouted as he watched his partner be sent flying through the air. Light encapsulated the ultimate level Digimon's body before his form shrunk down. Armadillomon smashed into the ground hard, bouncing several times before skidding to a stop. "Armadillomon!"

"Cody!" Davis yelled out to his friend as he watched the younger boy sprint towards his Digimon, who was lying motionless a few fields away.

"Don't worry, I'll use my laptop to open a digiport and get myself and Armadillomon to the Digital World," he shouted back before climbing onto a wall and jumping into the next field. "I'll then head back to base and let the others know what's happened."

"Ok. Be careful!" Davis yelled back before his gaze moved from Cody and returned to the fight. The Chosen Digimon were putting Metalseadramon on the back foot again but they were clearly being much more cautious than they were before. Thankfully, it was still enough to keep him at bay so that Cody could get to his partner.

Davis gazed over at the younger teen once more as he leapt over another wall and into the field that Armadillomon was in. Cody ran over to his partner and knelt down next to him, wrapping his arms around the shelled Digimon and cradling him. They remained that way for a few moments before he let his partner go so that he could slip his bag off his back. Cody set up his laptop and pointed his digivice at it.

"I'll see you all back at base." The black-haired boy used his earpiece to talk to them. "Don't do anything stupid and please make sure that you get back safely."

"We'll be careful." Davis gave him a thumbs up as he replied over their comms. "Have the others get ready just in case we need their help though."

"I will do." Cody nodded before he activated the gateway. Light engulfed him and Armadillomon, pulling them into the digital realm and to safety. Davis sighed as he watched the light fade away, leaving only the laptop in the field where his friends were moments ago.

His gaze returned back to the fight as Imperialdramon dodged another blue beam from Metalseadramon before firing back with his own. The two attacks collided, creating a huge and loud explosion that echoed over the battlefield. There was another blast as Silphymon scored a hit on their foe's back and burnt him, but the attack still wasn't strong enough to stop the metallic monster.

"We really need to think about getting out of here ourselves," Ken gulped, capturing everyone's attention. "The Deep Ones are getting closer and we'll be in big trouble soon. We can't let them surround us. We'll be done for if that happens."

Davis gritted his teeth and he clenched his spare fist. He glanced down at his other hand as he held onto Keiko's before he looked up at her face. She was clearly worried by what Ken had just told them and he couldn't blame her. Heck, he was worried and he knew that things weren't looking good for them, but he also knew that he couldn't let that fear show.

"Don't worry." Davis gently squeezed his girlfriend's hand and he gave her his usual confident grin. "We'll get out of this safe and sound. We'll be fine."

Another blast reverberated over the fields as Lynxmon struck Metalseadramon, burning the aquatic monster once again. He shrugged it off before ducking under Imperialdramon's attack and corkscrewing over an energy ball launched by Silphymon. The steel snake aimed his beam at Imperialdramon once again but Zudomon fired a thunderbolt spark at him, forcing him to break off.

The Chosen Digimon continued their assault, launching salvo after salvo at Metalseadramon. Multiple attacks hit but, as had happened several times already, the metallic monster shook them off and was more focused on making sure that Imperialdramon couldn't strike him. It didn't discourage the Digimon though as they kept going, trying to get an opening so that they could all escape to the safety of the Digital World.

Davis' eyes followed his partner as the giant humanoid dragon moved in closer to Metalseadramon, mixing things up. He fired his beam from a much shorter distance but it wasn't enough as their foe looped around and retaliated with his own attack. Imperialdramon dived down before corkscrewing back up and firing again.

The other Chosen Digimon took their chance once more, launching all of their attacks at the same time. The manoeuvres exploded as they hit Metalseadramon, knocking him out of the sky as he roared in pain. Imperialdramon quickly followed up and fired his laser at the demonic Digimon to finally land a hit. Davis held his breath and watched as it exploded on contact, knocking Metalseadramon to the ground.

"That's it! Now's our chance!" Davis yelled out to their Digimon. "Let's get out of here!"

The Chosen Digimon quickly turned and headed straight for where they knew that their partners were. Davis and the other Digidestined unclipped their digivices, readying themselves to go through the portal as soon as their Digimon were in range. Zudomon and Lynxmon were first inside the barrier, and were quickly followed by Silphymon.

"Go." Davis placed his hand on Keiko's back before pointing to the digiport. "I'll be right behind you."

"Come on." Yolei grabbed her hand before both girls held their digivices up to the screen. They and their Digimon were pulled in before Joe and Zudomon followed them.

"Let's go," Ken said as Imperialdramon landed in front of them and light engulfed his body. Veemon and Wormmon emerged and sprinted over to their partners. "Hurry!"

Davis could see Metalseadramon beginning to stir and take to the air once again. He knew that one attack wouldn't be enough to keep him down for long because, after all, Metalgarurumon and Wargreymon had scored some hits in previous battles and that hadn't been enough to stop him either. The goggle-head gulped loudly as Veemon and Wormmon reached him and Ken, prompting them to turn and point their digivices at the computer.

Glancing over his shoulder once more, Davis could see the familiar blue energy building up within Metalseadramon's nose yet again. It was pointing in their direction and he knew that this was going to be a close one. Light from the digiport engulfed them just in time, pulling him and Ken off their feet and to the digital realm. Davis let out a long breath that he didn't know that he was holding in as the familiar weightlessness eased his worries.

The goggle-head landed on the ground rather hard as he was spat out of the other side by the gateway. He briefly wondered why the portals were so rough some days and gentle others, but it didn't matter. Davis would happily take a rough landing if it meant that everyone had escaped unscathed from that battle.

He glanced around, checking that everyone was there. Another sigh escaped his lips and he lay down in the long meadow grass before taking in a large breath of the fresh Digital World air. Everyone was there and everyone was safe.

"That was a close one," Veemon commented as he lay back too. "We managed to get away just in time."

Davis chuckled. "You can say that again."

Veemon laughed as well. "That was a close …"

"It was a figure of speech." Davis shook his head as he glanced over at his partner. "You do that every time."

"Great job, everyone," Ken spoke up, capturing the group's attention as he glanced between their Digimon. "You did excellently to be able to keep Metalseadramon down long enough for us to be able to get away."

"Yeah." Davis nodded as he got to his feet. "Good work."

He checked the digiport on the random TV that was sitting in the meadow to see if it was still open. The red indicator told him all that he needed to know because that meant that Metalseadramon had, in a last-ditch attempt to stop them from escaping, blown up the laptop that they'd used to get to the Digital World. It was definitely too close for comfort, even by Davis' own standards.

Keiko's footsteps caught his attention as she stopped by his side and took his hand in hers. "Thanks, Davis. Thanks for reassuring me that everything would be alright."

"Don't mention it." He gave her his confident grin once again and gently squeezed her hand. "Are you ok now? I can imagine how that must have felt given … you know …"

"Yeah, I'm fine thanks to you." She nodded and smile. "Thanks."

Keiko stepped closer and tilted her head, closing her eyes as she did so. Davis didn't need Izzy's IQ to know what she was wanting and he willing obliged his girlfriend. He closed his own eyes and wrapped his arms around her as their lips met. The couple held them there for a few moments before pulling back and sharing a smile.

"Let's get back to base." Davis stepped out of their embrace and glanced at the others with him. "We need to make sure that Cody and Armadillomon are ok, and then we need to figure out how Metalseadramon was able to find us."

It was a very close one for the Digidestined and they only just managed to get away. Do you think that they were lucky to escape? Do you think that, if the battle had continued, the other Chosen Digimon would have been defeated like Shakkoumon was?

On a different note about the Digimon Adventure reboot, Kari and Gatomon finally met up in it a few episodes back. How they met in the new series wasn't bad but I think how Gatomon and Kari met in the Myotismon arc in the original version was better. That's just my opinion though and my like for the original Adventure series may make me biased. It also looks like we're going to get to see more of the other Digidestined in the coming episodes of the reboot. I'm looking forward to it because, until recently, it has felt rather focused on Tai.

What are your thoughts on this chapter and the battle with Metalseadramon? Please can you let me know by posting a review? :D

Stay well and stay safe :D
