Chapter 114 [Luthor Mansion—Fifteen Minutes Earlier]
Lana ran faster than she had thought possible. The world blurred by her. She thought she saw State Route 90 streaking under her feet. She hung a hard left looking to get off the main road. I have to make myself stop! She dove onto a bare stretch of grass. She carved a groove into the grass before coming rest against a tree. She sucked in a couple of deep breaths.
Lana? LANA! Where are you? Clark called to her.
She gasped a couple of breaths. Her eyes located the mansion fifty yards away. You aren't going to believe this. I'm at the mansion. Wow. She pulled herself to her feet. She considered the bracelet. This is some bracelet. I'm going to need practice. Lex is going to kill me especially given the damage to his lawn. She walked up the driveway toward the house. She kept looking at her feet. The last thing she wanted was to go on another super sprint at the moment.
"Lana?" Jennifer Dubois rushed to her side. She felt the difference in Lana's aura almost immediately. "What happened?"
"Clark…gave me bracelet." Lana laughed. "Guess we're really alike…now."
SHE HAS THE BRACELET OF DESTINY, JARA SA. IT HAS MADE HER INTO A KRYPTONIAN, Jor-El informed her.
Jennifer put Lana's arm over her shoulders. "Guess a helping hand won't hurt. You're running without any practice? What is Clark thinking?"
"We didn't know. He smothered my heat vision before. I have super strength too." Lana bit her lip.
"Yeah you're going to need practice. Don't worry. I've got you." Jennifer helped Lana into the house and into the parlor. "Just relax. Deep breaths."
"Thanks." Lana sucked in deep breaths. "This has been some afternoon. Clark knows I'm here."
"I'm sure he does. Wish he hadn't let you take off your own though." Jennifer shook her head. "You need a glass of water or anything?" Clark?
I'm just coming up to the door now. Be right there. Clark stopped in front of the door. Before he could knock, Jennifer opened it. "Some first run for her." Annoyance prompted a frown across her face.
"My Mom was there. I was explaining. Lana took off before I could do anything." He threw his hands up in the air. "I'm sorry."
"I get it. Well Lana's okay. She's just winded. Come on in. Some day huh?" Jennifer led him into the parlor. There they found Lana with the butler who was getting her a drink of water.
"Are you all right, Lana? Sorry." He looked her over.
"I'm fine, Clark. Thanks for getting over here so fast. How's your Mom doing?" Lana sipped on her water. Her throat's burning and breathing eased.
"She's fine with everything. Dad's going to hit the roof." He shrugged the point off.
"Your Dad…?" Jennifer raised an eyebrow. "He can give it a rest, Clark. So Lana's like us? BIG DEAL! YOU TWO LOVE EACH OTHER! RIGHT?"
"Right." He nodded.
"Absolutely." Lana nodded as well. "We're committed to each other."
"And we underwent the Joining." He scratched his head.
"Joining?" Jennifer scratched her head.
THE KRYPTONIAN MARRIAGE CEREMONY OR OUR VERSION OF IT. YOUR PARENTS HAD ONE LIKE IT, JARA SA, Jor-El declared.
"So you two are Krypton married? What does that mean for here?" Jennifer asked.
"We're engaged." Lana squeezed his hand. "We'll get married after we graduate high school."
Jennifer sighed. "This is unreal! One wedding and now we have two engagements on top of it. You two can restart our galactic system. Wait until everyone hears this."
"We don't want to steal the wedding's glory or Miri and Jasmine's either." Lana felt the energy surge in the library upstairs. "The Child?"
"Yeah. He, Lex and Spider-Man had something to do back East. You stay put." Jennifer told her.
"I'm good. I just want to take it slow." Lana got herself up off of the couch. She couldn't take her eyes off of her new bracelet. "It healed me too. It drove the dark magic out." She held up the back of her hand.
"Your scar's gone! Wow!" Jennifer embraced Lana. "You're free. Wait until Dr. La Fontaine hears. She will be so happy for you."
"I just wish it could help her." Lana took the last step. "Clark?"
"Right here. Let's give everyone the news." He steadied his fiancée.
They made tracks for the library and the revelations to come….
