Chapter 115 [Library]

The Child brought Lex, Spidey and Peter back in a dark flash. He squinted at the area around them. "'Nother Nappie down."

"Tell that to Harry." Spidey shook his head. "By the way, who are you?" He looked right at "Peter".

"Couldn't let the groom walk into the lion's den on the day before his wedding." Lex gulped from the remains of his coffee. "That's still warm at least. Go ahead."

"Of course." Peter pressed a button on the side of his watch. His form shimmered and shifted like a desert mirage.

Jasmine handed the wrist device back to Lex. "Thank you, Alex. That was most satisfying."

"Jasmine? That was you?" Spider-Man shook his head. "You sounded just like me. I did a double take."

"It's a LexCorp prototype. It won't pass an x-ray, fingerprint or retinal scan. Still, it worked for our purposes," Lex explained.

'I was not about to let Osborn expose you. Now that the FBI has seen you and Spider-Man together, they will not believe his rantings." She narrowed her eyes. "I suppose the call will be coming soon. I should prepare my things for return."

"We gotcha an'…" The Child glared at the door. He felt something off energy-wise. "Now wha?" He pushed the doors open. He saw Jennifer, Clark and Lana walking toward them. "What'd ya do? She's different!"

Clark and Lana looked at each other. They wondered who should start their explanation.

"What happened?" Lex assessed them both. From their 'walking on eggshells' manner, he knew something was going on. "Guys, I really don't need another issue right now. We've got enough."

"It's a win-win, Lex." Lana grinned. "I guess Miri's and your moment inspired Clark, Jasmine. He asked me to come over to the farm. We talked. He gave me a special bracelet. We committed. Then I put this on. It changed me. I'm now a…well…an alien officially."

"An alien?" Jasmine looked Lana over. "Forgive me. You seem much the same, my Friend."

"She's changed. She's developing the same abilities that I have." Clark gazed at her. "Lex, remember when you said carpe diem? I did it." He grinned.

Lex stared at him. "You mean you two…?"

"We're married by Clark's old culture. We're engaged by Earth rules." Lana turned to Spidey and Jasmine. "Sorry. He couldn't resist. I couldn't say no."

"You called it, Lex." Spidey smiled under his mask. "Gwendy and I are the bad influence."

"It took them long enough to get it." Lex leaned back in his chair. "Clark's parents are going to be the roadblock."

"We're getting married after graduation, Lex. That'll make it work with Dad and Mom. Until then, Lana and I have to wait." Clark turned to Spider-Man. "You both inspired two engagements. How can you call yourself a bad influence?"

"You are calling Miri with this or I will, Lana." Jasmine took her phone out. She dialed Miranda's number. "Hi, Miri. It's Jas. We just got back. We will need to speak on a few things. You inspired Clark Kent." She smirked at him.

"Inspired him? Now what?" Miranda stopped cleaning the counter at the Talon. "I'm almost afraid to ask."

"Clark asked her, Miri. No more stalling or hurt for either of them. They bonded in some alien sense. They're engaged," Jasmine reported.

Miranda dropped a mug on the floor. "They're…what? Are you serious? He really did it? I can't believe it?"

Lana took the phone from Jasmine. "Believe it, Miri. I got the bracelet and the promise! A year from now, we're getting married. I'm going to need someone for the wedding party."

"As if I'm going to say no? I will make sure Mr. Plaid doesn't get cold feet!" Miranda shook her head. "The wedding party's not going to believe this news. Did you deal with that jerk back in New York?"

"Hand me the phone, Lana." Jasmine took the phone back. "We dealt with Osborn, Miri. I don't want to talk about it now. His son is with them right now. We have to keep it from him until after the ceremony."

"If you think that's best. Ask Peter when you talk to him. Anyhow give our congrats to them. I will be speaking to Lana later. Count on that! I can't believe this! I'll talk to you later, Jas. Okay?" Miranda hung up.

"Fine." Jasmine hung up. "I just hope Father does not disinherit me."

"Let 'im. Yer family now." The Child growled.

"What he said, Jasmine." Lex shrugged. "What you need, we can help you with."

"That's from us too." Spidey chimed in. "We help each other." He sighed. "Speaking of that, Gwen and I still have to deal with my Aunt May. This is going to be fun." He sprang to the library level along the balcony. He headed into the stacks where his street clothes were stashed.

Less than two minutes later, Peter emerged in the clothes in question. "Any chance of getting a ride over to the Talon? I want to check on everyone. Then I need to talk with Aunt May."

"Ah gotta check in with Miss Priss." The Child stomped out and down the hall.

"Let's go. He'll catch up." Lex ushered the others out the door and toward the waiting van in the garage below.

Celebration was definitely in the air….
