Sure enough, once these four escaped from the snipers, Claire's powers healed her. But their survival came at a high cost. Magneto had been left behind, and was likely dead. Chances were that he'd be tortured, might emerge worse than he was before. They would try to rescue him later, but they'd need help for that. And Tandy and her new friends could help. Before they could find John Brown's army, they were found by two scouts, Nick and Annie. These scouts snuck up and had the drop on them before they could react. Tyrone, Claire, Elle, and Maximus all raised their hands in surrender.

Maximus: I'm impressed, had no idea we were being followed.
Nick: Let's chalk that up to experience.
Annie: Which side are you on?
Tyrone: Do I look like I could pass for a nazi?
Annie: We know there are collabortors.
Tyrone: I'm not one. Anyway I'm here for my friend, Tandy Bowen. You know her?
Nick: Maybe. What's your name?
Tyrone: Tyrone Johnson.
Annie: Okay, she has mentioned you. Says you're her best friend. But we also know what these nazies do to people, how they torture you until you'll do anything to make the pain stop, even betray your best friend.
Tyrone: I would never betray her.
Nick: A lot of people say that, sometimes it's true.
Tyrone: Look, we lost a friend to get here. I just want to talk with her, give her the chance to come home.
Annie: So, you just want to take one of our soldiers away from our side?
Tyrone: When you say it like that it doesn't sound so good.
Nick: It's not, especially now. Still, maybe you should get the chance to meet John Brown.
Tyrone: Always been a fan of his work.
Nick: Make you guys a deal. We take you back to our camp, you can try to convince Tandy to leave. But we also get to try and talk you all into staying. We could use all the good soldiers we can get right now.

Tyrone looked at his three friends, they all nodded. None seemed eager to stay in Hell, but they were willing to listen to John Brown's sales pitch.
