Prompt: Could you write a Drabble where Densi and their one-year old go camping with the rest of the team? Thank you.
A/N: This includes Sam, Callen and Densi. I just couldn't put Eric and Nell through a camping trip.
"Ok, remind me again, who thought it was a good idea to bring a 1 year old on a camping trip?" Deeks asked, his nose wrinkled as he attempted to find something to wipe his hand on. Kensi nudged his shoulder and handed him a small towel and a tube of Aquaphor.
Doing his best to clean the brown smear off his hand while Caleb stared up at him with a small frown. He didn't seem to be enjoying the experience of being changed in the middle of a forest any more than Deeks was.
"Hey, you can blame Sam for that," Kensi said, nodding her head in his direction. Deeks glanced up to glare briefly at his teammate who was impatiently waiting with one foot resting on a small boulder, sipping from his canteen.
"It's character building," Sam insisted. "And I told you to we were going on a five mile hike, you should have prepared accordingly."
"We brought five diapers." Deeks countered. "We had no way of knowing that Caleb was going to go on a pooping spree. I knew we shouldn't have trusted your mystery veggie burgers." His expression turned malevolent. Caleb wasn't the only one who'd been feeling a certain level of distress in that department.
"Kale is a great source of fiber and vitamins."
"Only you would think of putting kale in a burger," Callen commented. He was leaning casually against a tall oak tree. He alone had refused to have anything to do with Sam's creation.
"I told you not to feed it to him," Kensi reminded Deeks, but then took pity on him and started wrapping up the used diaper. "Why don't you go find a stream to rinse your hands in and I'll finish him up."
Grumbling to himself, Deeks got up and wandered a few yards away, armed with a repurposed burp cloth and a minute bottle of sanitizer. Truthfully, he'd come in contact with much worse in the last year since Caleb's birth, but he was a little grumpy after two days of Sam's all-knowing leadership. Even Kensi, who had followed along willingly enough at first, seemed to be getting tired of his militant attitude.
Deeks had a feeling her breaking point had come when Sam had criticized the way she'd set up their tent. She'd seemed to take personal offense at that and actually refused to speak to him for a full hour afterwards.
Callen for his part, seemed mostly unbothered by it all and either ignored Sam or laughed at their misfortune.
When he returned a few minutes later, Caleb was changed and dressed in a new outfit, propped against Kensi's hip. He caught sight of Deeks and gestured to be set down.
"Dada!" he shouted, running over on slightly shaky legs. Deeks held back a wince as Caleb nearly tripped over a stray branch. Caleb wasn't fazed at all and Deeks scooped him up, depositing a kiss on his round cheek.
"Are we ready to go?" Sam asked, sounding annoyed at the delay in his agenda. Both Kensi and Deeks glared at him this time and Callen chuckled to himself.
"Maybe we should stop for some lunch," he suggested innocently.
"We've already wasted enough time." Sam gestured for them to pack up and slipped the strap of his canteen over his head. "C'mon, we've got 2.8 more miles and I want to get back to the campsite before 4."
Sighing, Kensi helped Deeks strap Caleb into his carrier and then shoved the used diaper and other paraphernalia into her backpack.
They'd only been walking for a few minutes, when Deeks suddenly groaned and turned to Kensi with a slightly panicked expression.
"Quick, take Caleb," he told her, reaching for the front clasp.
"Deeks, what the-?"
"Just take him!" He finally got the clasps open and thrust a wriggling Caleb into Kensi's arms, he rushed towards a dense patch of trees. "Damn you and your kale burgers!" he shouted over his shoulder at Sam.
"And now you know why I ate spaghettios last night," Callen told Kensi cheerfully.
