Hi could you do a fanfic set during season 8, specifically about Deeks, Kensi and "Sullivan" during her recovery. Back then a lot of us were worried when Kensi and Sullivan started getting closer and Kensi began neglecting Deeks. Could you write that Sullivan makes a move and kisses Kensi but just as that happens Deeks catches them in the act. A real angst, emotional and heartfelt story PLEASE.
A/N: I have to be honest, when I got to the word "neglecting", my happy little Densi heart objected. This may be somewhat more slanted in Kensi's favor than you wanted.
This is during 8x10 and deviates from the actual ending.
"So, how long have you and Deeks been together?" Sullivan asked he uncapped a beer and handed it Kensi. She rolled her eyes at the clear assumption that she wouldn't be able to do it herself, and waved him off, grabbing her own.
"Um, it'll be two years this Christmas," she answered, inwardly marveling that it hadn't been longer.
"Huh." Sullivan made a face that she'd come to associate with an imminent smart ass comment. "And you said you're engaged right? Cause I noticed you don't wear a ring." He pointed to her left hand and she self-consciously clenched her fingers, the movement still a little stiff and awkward.
"Oh yeah." She chuckled and absently rubbed her bare finger with her thumb. "Technically we're not engaged. Although not for lack of trying."
"So I take it you're not a big fan of the idea?" he asked, smirking at Kensi. "I mean, I don't blame you. You can definitely do a lot better than Deeks, even with that short temper of yours."
Kensi frowned, surprised and a little offended, at Sullivan's criticism. It felt more personal than his usual jibes.
"Ok, well, you don't really know Deeks that well. I'm just waiting for the right time. You know, when I'm not in a coma, or stuck in a wheelchair," she explained, trying to lessen the sharpness in her tone.
"Really? Cause to me it just sounds like you're trying to make excuses. C'mon, you can do so much better than the hippy, surfer dude." He leaned towards Kensi, the faint scent of beer fanning over her face. Suddenly, she wished there was another seat between them.
Trying to be discreet, she started to stand, gesturing to the fridge.
"You want another–" He cut her off, grabbing her hand, his firm grip surprising her. "Sullivan," she said warningly, but he didn't let go and tugged her again his chest and pressed his lips against hers.
She made a muffled noise of distress, smacking his chest and tried to push him away.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?" she hissed as she jerked away from him. He had the audacity to smirk and forced her mouth back against his. "Stop–"
"Hey baby, I'm home!" Deeks called out, sounding cheerful. Kensi jerked back again, shoving roughly at Sullivan's chest with both hands. But obviously not before Deeks saw. "What-what's going on?" he asked, a range of emotions from shock to disbelief and anger, flashing across his face.
"Deeks, this isn't what it looks like." Kensi swiped her hand across her mouth, trying to get rid of the sour taste of beer.
"I mean, it kind of is," Sullivan said, rocking back on his heels.
"Get out," Deeks said sharply. Sullivan smirked at him, apparently unaffected that he was being thrown out. As he brushed past her, Kensi resisted the urge to punch him.
"I'll see you around, Special K." Kensi just shook her head. If she saw him again, she wouldn't be responsible for her actions. As he opened the door, he turned back and winked at Deeks.
After he left, Kensi pressed her hand to her mouth, not sure how to break the awkward silence between them. Deeks still looked shocked, but it was slowly morphing into something that resembled pain.
"Kensi, what's going on?" he repeated, sounding impossibly sad.
"I didn't know he was going to do that," she told him. It didn't answer his question, but she needed him to know it. If she'd known that Sullivan would try anything like that, she would have never invited him in.
"Why was he here? You didn't tell me you guys were spending outside of therapy." He glanced around and gestured to the table, scattered with beer bottles. He flashed a smirk, but it was more like a grimace.
"This was the first time, I swear Deeks." She took a step toward him, needing to reassure him with touch. Like they always did, but he took a step back. Kensi's stomach sank. "You don't believe me." Her voice was hollow in her own ears. Pressing his lips together, Deeks shook his head and his voice shook when he spoke.
"I don't know what to believe. The past few weeks you've been brushing me off every time we have a chance to be alone and you won't let me do anything with you." He paused and roughly scraped his fingers through his hair. "And then I come home and you're kissing Sullivan."
"I wasn't kissing him!" Kensi shouted and they both flinched. "I told him no, I tried to stop him, but he didn't listen. Deeks, you have to know I would never want that."
"Do I?"
"I love you Deeks," she said, walking toward him again and he retreated until his back his the door.
"Then why do you keep pushing me away?" he asked. "Why would you rather spend time with him?" Deeks threw his hand towards the door. "Every time I suggest we do something together, you come up with an excuse. I get that you need time, but I'm starting to feel like you don't want me around at all."
"Baby," Kensi whispered, her eyes filling with tears. "Of course I want you around. I-I…sometimes it feels like I'm never going to be normal again and I don't want you to see me like that."
"But you're willing to share that with a guy like Sullivan?"
"Yes! Because I don't care about him!" Deeks looked surprised by her outburst and didn't protest when she took his hand and clasped it between them. "You're the only one, Deeks and I never want you to go. You're the only one I want and if I made you think differently, I am so sorry," her voice. Role and wobbled as she spoke and as she stared into Deeks' eyes, trying to convey the truth of her words, she saw them turn wet and shiny.
"Really?" he whispered. Kensi let out a sob and wrapped her arms tightly around him. Deeks buried his head in her shoulder, clinging to her.
"You can't get rid of me that easily," she murmured. Deeks chuckled, the sound a little desperate as he dipped his to kiss her.
"I love you." His voice was barely audible, but Kensi felt it in the way he held her.
"I love you too. Only you."
