Chapter 172

Hiccups POV:

It's been a week since my first encounter with the pirates and in that time I'd been mostly living on my ship as I continued to rage a private war with the pirates. I'd normally end up taking out at least one fleet a day and two at most but that's only happened three times since I'd begun this little war against the pirates. As for those that were captured, they were all kept prisoner on Outcast Island under the watchful eye of Alvin who was happy to brush off his old interrogation methods. So far there hadn't been any luck in getting any useful information from any of the pirates on who their leader was since none of them had ever met him. Their leader was a mystery to them as their captain only talked with her personal guard or assistant but it was no secret to the men that the captain was the mastermind behind their operations and plans.

Information on their base didn't come by easily either with how things were with them as they were given locations to meet up with men who were to pick up the gathered goods and prisoners. They'd wait for one of the captains' personal ships to come and collect the gathered items along with a report on what's happened and in return they'd be given their payment and supplies. All of this made things more complicated for me since it meant I had no idea where to look for their base, who I'd be going up against, what number of enemies I'd face and what defenses I'd be going up against when I find their base.

One of the things I did know about their though captain is that they are definitely someone to fear since when I asked the men what stopped them from just taking their ships and leaving with their gathered goods or keeping some of their stolen goods hidden on the ship. When I asked them this, the blood rushed from their faces and they began shaking like leaves as they each claimed they'd never dare do such a thing. It took a little work from Alvin but they eventually cracked and explained that two fleets had tried to pull one over the captain with one trying to keep a few of the items for themselves and the other trying to run. The ones who tried to hide failed and were exposed when their ships were searched for hidden items resulting in the entire crew being while those who tried to escape were hunted down and brought back. The men didn't say what happened to those who were punished other than they were never seen or heard from again and that was enough for me.

Now I was on my ship looking out at the ocean wondering what I could do to find the pirates base since whenever I captured one of their ships they'd have already dropped off their stolen goods and prisoners and be on the hunt for more. I couldn't attack their meeting places either since they were constantly changing and were only informed of their meeting places via letter left at the old meeting place which they then burn to prevent anyone from finding out the location. I had to admit this was a smart thing to do since this meant anybody who wanted to find the pirates' base wouldn't be able to do so by interrogating those who knew its location. I sighed and said.

"Whoever the leader of these pirates is, they're as smart as a whip to hide their tracks the way they do so nobody can find their hidden base." It was then I noticed some ships in the distance and using my eagle eye I was able to see them waving the flag of the pirates making me sigh. "Maybe they'll have the answers I seek." I then shrugged. "And if they don't then I'll at least take them out of the game." With that I willed my ship to sail towards them.

Nightfall

Pirates' lair

Nobodies POV:

The sound of footsteps echoed through the hall as a man with a brown moustache, thin muscles and brown eyes, wearing a black coat that reached his waist, grey pants and a grey bandana, made his way down the hall. This man was the captains' personal assistant and making his way down the hall uneasily before coming to the familiar door with the two large, mace wielding guards standing on either side of the door. The man held in his hands a few scrolls that he'd look at in fear every few seconds knowing that the contents of todays reports weren't going to please the captain in the least. He slowly walked up to the door and said.

"I have the latest reports for the captain to go over."

The guards as usual didn't say anything but made a simple gesture with their shoulders before he pushed the door open and slowly made his way in. As usual the office was completely dark within and the only form of light being the moons light shining through the window in the ceiling. He gulped and walked up into the moons light before placing the scrolls onto the desk as he said.

"These are the reports for this weeks collections but there've been ten more disappearances, all like the first one with no signs of a fight or them trying to get out of the archipelago." He could feel the captains glare on him and knew if he didn't act fast there'd be a knife in his future. "I did get in contact with my connections in the various tribes after the first ship disappeared and believe I've come up with a possible lead." He saw a hand gesture to continue. "It's been heard that the lead traders went to the isle of Berk to request help in dealing with our people and this makes me suspect they are requesting help from Hiccup Haddock." He could see an eyebrow rise on the face hidden in the darkness. "I've heard many stories about the lad but with how gossip flies it's difficult to tell what is true from what is false but I do know he's most likely the one who's been taking our ships and our men." He saw a nod. "Would you like me to see what I can find out on him and if he has anything to do with our ships disappearances if you order it." There was another nod. "I'll be right on it captain and let you know what else I can find out." With that he quickly left the room as the glimmer of a knife shined from behind the desk.

One week later

The captains personal assistant was once again standing in the same spot in the room while fidgeting nervously as he listened to the rustle of papers. Ten minutes ago he'd walked in with all the information he was able to confirm concerning Hiccup Haddock and from the things he'd read through, Hiccup was most definitely a powerful opponent. He knew that Hiccup had traveled the world and taken on a great deal of enemies and beasts, some of which were considered demons but he couldn't confirm these things due to gossip. He also knew Hiccup possessed a great deal of dragons and allies, all of which he was sure would come to his aid whenever he wished it.

The thing that worried him the most however was the rumors of Hiccup Haddocks golden arm, which is said to hold a large arsenal of powerful weapons. He knew this might just be another rumor that had changed with passing gossip and it might just be a golden piece of armor Hiccup uses on his arm and to hide his weapons. Even if only half the stories he'd heard were true Hiccup Haddock would be a serious threat that should not be underestimated since from what he's heard that was the mistake most of his opponents made and they paid for it with pain. It was then the captain lowered the scrolls and turned to their personal assistant who gulped, feeling his leaders eyes on him before he said.

"This was all the information I could gather on such short notice captain but the majority of it might just be rumors so there's no telling what he is truly capable of and one thing I know to be true is he always brings his nightfury with him." He could see a blade glimmer in the darkness and quickly said. "However despite this I have faith that you'll be able to outsmart him so both he and his nightfury will be easily captured." The glimmer from the blade died making him give an internal sigh of relief. "Shall I leave you to plan out a strategy for trapping the dragon rider captain?" He saw a nod and quickly left the room as fast as his legs could carry him.

Six days later

Hiccups POV:

I'd was still on my ship but this time I was smiling out of sheer joy and relief knowing this adventure would soon be coming to an end and I'd soon be back on my island with Blanca on one side and Astrid on the other. The reason I felt this adventure was coming to an end was four days ago I was able to capture a ship with the men who'd yet to drop off their stolen goods and prisoners but were on their way to do so. Because of this I was able to go to their meeting place and capture those who know where the base is while also saving a few more of the traders men who'd already been picked up. When I dropped the prisoners off on Outcast Island I made sure Alvin knew how much I needed the information and to do whatever was needed to get it but not to kill any of the men and keep their bodies intact.

After I told him this he gave me a smile that reminded me of the demon lord Akuhei before pulling me into a bone-breaking hug as he told me that it was one of the nicest things anyone had ever said to him. This made me pity the prisoners since my dad had told me about what Alvin was capable of and it made even me shiver in fear and I'd seen some scary things in my life. When that was clear I took the men I rescued and their goods that I reclaimed back to Berk where they'd be staying until their superiors could come pick them up. Even it was only for a few hours it was nice to spend some time with Astrid and Blanca for some down time which lasted six hours before I got a terror mail from Alvin asking me to come by as he was able to get the information I needed.

That night I slept in my own house with Blanca using my chest as a pillow and the next day I went to Outcast Island to get the information I needed to find the pirates base and bring an end to this threat and this adventure. Once I got the information I took off to do reconnaissance on the base and I had to say despite them being pirates I was impressed with what I saw. The base was a small island that resembled dark deep in environment with their being no form of greenery and only rocks and stone. Circling the island were large sea stacks, each with a catapult and lookout all keeping an eye out for ships and all catapults loaded and ready to fire. On the north side of the island were multiple large stone docks, which were full of ships, the majority of which were the ships that were captured by the pirates on their raids. In the center of the island was large dormant volcano, which is where the pirates had set up their main base meaning it was most likely where they lived, where they stored everything and above all where they held the prisoners.

When I first saw this using my eagle eye so I wouldn't be spotted by their lookouts I sent out one of my Scouters with two Jewelwigs in its talons. I had my Scouter drop one of the Jewelwigs into the top of the volcano and the other at the entrance where two guards stood. I sent them in to explore the entire base while I had my Scouter return to me before we got out of there knowing it would be best to flee since there was still the chance of enemies coming back and letting the lookouts know about me. While we sailed away I had my Jewelwigs continue to explore the base so I could get an idea of what I'd be dealing with when I took on the pirates. I had to say I was impressed with what I saw with multiple tunnels and levels built into the entire volcano forming a very impressive base of operations. I knew when the pirates were dealt with I should come by and check out the entire volcano since there might be a hidden mining vain full of valuable jewels or minerals.

While I sailed I took the time to plan out a way to get the traders out of there without alerting the pirates to what was happening since the last thing I wanted was for any of them to get caught in the crossfire. Not just because I don't want anyone to get hurt but also because it would be trouble with their superiors who might use it as an excuse to go back on our deal since they did try to con us when we made the deal. Eventually I realized how the dungeons where the prisoners were kept are in the lower levels of the base and how I could use this to help evacuate them. I could come up to the island in my submersible ship on Tephra before using my digger and void arrows to dig out a tunnel into the cavern where the prisoners were being held. From there I'd deal with the guards and free the prisoners before taking them all back down to Tephra and load them all onto my ship. Once they're all loaded up I'd send Tephra back to Berk while me and Toothless dealt with the pirates, taking them down stealthily since the last thing I wanted was an all out fight.

All this brings us to now with me in my regular attire with the addition of my eagle skull pendant while I stood by one of the windows in my submersible ships and looking out at the ocean waters and occasional marine life as it went by. Standing next to me and staring out the window as well was Toothless who licked his lips every time he saw a fish swim by making me chuckle. It was then I saw some sea stacks as we passed by and knew we'd arrived at the location we were meant to be before I felt the ship begin to rise and sighed knowing it was time to get to work. I turned to Toothless and said.

"Time to get to work bud."

He growled before we made our way to the bedroom since the door leading outside was smaller than the main door that lowered down so I could load up livestock. We did this since wanted to avoid drawing attention while I dug a way into the dungeons as that would mean an alarm, which would result in me needing to deal with all the pirates running to attack us. I pushed the door open and walked out onto the deck with Toothless following before I gently closed the door not wanting it to bang. I then turned to the large stonewall while releasing my spirit bow with a digger arrow before I loaded the arrow up and let it fly into the wall. I watched as a twenty-foot deep tunnel was dug into the side making me smile as I mounted Toothless before we flew up onto the tunnels ledge.

When we'd landed I tossed a stone into the water near Tephra's head letting him know it was time to submerge for now since I didn't want to risk any of the men spotting his submerged form or the top of my ship. I watched his form sink below the waters until his form could no longer be seen before I sighed and turned down the tunnel and knew it was time to get to work. I lead Toothless down the tunnel as I pulled out another digger arrow and loaded it up into my bow so I could let it fly as soon as we reached the end. This didn't take long nor did it take us long to reach the point where there was only a wall that was half a foot thick separating me from the dungeon.

Now I was using the jewelwigs that I had placed in the base to my advantage in this after having them both make their way to the dungeon. I had one of them plant itself on the wall of the dungeons inside so I could see what I'd be dealing with while the other one was outside the door keeping watch for more guards. From what I could see there were two guards outside the door and eight in the dungeon with two guarding the entrance while the others were scattered around the room. I smiled when I saw there was one leaning against the wall I was behind meaning I could deal with him quickly meaning there would be one less pirate to deal with and I'd get to use my eagle skull pendant. I walked up behind the spot where the man was leaning and took a breath while activating my pendant and felt the black mist like tendrils flow down my arm.

I pressed my arms against the wall and took a breath as I focused on the tendrils, sending them through the wall and using the eye of the dragon kept an eye on what I was doing. I smiled as the tendrils quickly wrapped around the pirates mouth and torso leaving him unable to call for help or struggle since his arms were pinned to his body. I quickly pulled his body through the wall before anyone could take notice and as soon as he was pulled through I deactivated my pendant and quickly hit him with knockout gas from my prosthetic. With him dealt with I willed my grootslang coat to take on its ninja attire appearance before using the jewelwig in the dungeon to see if anyone noticed their fellow guard disappearing.

I was pleased to see none of them realized their friend was gone before I took notice another one of the men pacing back and forth around the room. I kept a close eye him thinking perhaps he'd come close enough to the wall that I'd be able to take him out of the game the same way I did the others. In the meantime I figured I could deal with the guards using my jewelwig's speed stinger venom tipped tale to deal with some of them. I had it crawl across the ceiling and down the wall onto one of the guards' shoulders but fortunately he didn't notice until my jewelwig snapped its back claws into his neck making him freeze up due to the venom. There were still six men left in the room to deal with and with so few of them near the wall I figured I could use the jewelwig to at least deal with those against the walls and not walking around.

Five minutes later

Nearly all the men were paralyzed except the man who was still pacing around the room who hadn't noticed his comrades hadn't moved a muscle. When his back was turned I phased through the wall and walked up behind him before using my real hand to deliver a powerful chop to the back of his neck and he went down like a rock. I smiled at his downed form before turning to the cells full of men and women who were all now staring at me in shock after hearing the thump of one of their guards hit the ground as I said.

"Keep your voices down, your superiors sent me." I could tell they were unsure before I continued. "You just have to trust me and if you're worried about the guards out here, don't be since they can't do anything now." To prove my point I walked up to one of the paralyzed men and pushed him over as they all stared at his frozen form. "A little friend of mine injected them with speed stinger venom so they won't be moving for a while." I then walked up to one of the cells and put my prosthetic hand on the doors lock before channeling a light green crystal making acid leak out onto the lock melting it allowing me to open the door, shocking its captives. "Do me a favor and start gathering up the guards into the middle of the room so we can deal with them later." They just stared at me as I got to work with the other cells.

2 minutes later

All the cells were open, the prisoners free and all the guards were rounded up and in the middle of the room including the two guards who were standing guard outside. I took them out the same way I took out the first guard using my eagle skull pendant so there was no chance of them causing any trouble while we evacuated. Sadly I was given a headache from the prisoners since they were all curious about my jewelwigs after they saw me put the one in the dungeon away. This lead to them asking me multiple questions while I was busy tying up the guards, which lead to my headache. It was annoying but I endured it before I told them that this was not the place or time for a question and answer session since there might be guards coming down at any minute. Now all the guards were dealt with and I was looking at my handy work with all of them sitting down in the middle of the room tied up. It was then I was brought out of my thoughts when one of the male prisoners walked up and asked.

"Excuse me sir, not that I'm not grateful to you for saving us but how are we going to get out of here with men patrolling every hall?" He then got a thoughtful look on his face. "Come to think of it, how did you get in here to begin with?" I smiled at him as I released my spirit bow.

"The same way I'm getting you all out of here."

He raised and eyebrow I took out a void arrow and then loaded it into my bow and let it fly at the wall that had my escape tunnel behind it. I watched as the large black ball formed before shrinking in on itself and disappearing leaving a large hole that lead to my escape tunnel. Toothless who was waiting on the other side quickly ran up to me as everyone gasped and backed away in shock while I chuckled. When Toothless reached me I held his head and gave it a scratch as I said.

"I'm happy to see you to bud." I turned back to the prisoners. "Don't worry, he won't hurt you unless I order him to or unless you try to harm one of us and trust me when I say you do not want to anger me or my nightfury." Their eyes widened before one of the men said.

"You're Hiccup Haddock!" I turned to him and nodded. "You're the famous dragon rider of Berk known to travel the world and take on monsters, demons and great warriors and be given great treasures and powerful weapons presented by the gods themselves in return." I could see everyone was now staring at me in amazement and some with a hint of greed at the mention of my treasures but I knew where this would lead so I quickly said.

"We'll go over this another time since for now we need to evacuate you all and get the prisoners out of here since I don't want to have to deal with them when they come to." They all nodded as I picked up two of the men and threw them onto Toothless' back before picking up another one of the men and throwing him over my shoulder. "Each of you grab a guard and follow me." With that said I made my way down the escape tunnel with the others soon following but as we made our way down one of the men asked.

"So how are we going to get off the island without the lookouts seeing us?" I smiled back at him.

"Don't worry, I have a way to get you all out of here with no problems." They all stared at me hoping to know what it was but I just smiled and continued down the tunnel until we reached the end looking down into the ocean.

"So what do we do now?"

I dropped the guard onto the ground and picked up a stone before tossing it into the water to signal Tephra we were ready for pickup. Before anyone could ask me what was going on Tephra's form began to form below the waters making them stop and stare as the top of the ship with the door leading to my bedroom appeared out of the water. I turned back to the people and raised a hand signaling them to wait, which they all nodded to before I jumped down onto the ship and entered through the door. I made my way down to the main room and quickly to the storeroom as Tephra continued to rise out of the water until the ship had fully risen from the sea. I had the front ramp of the ship slowly lower towards the entrance to the escape tunnel creating a bridge towards the ship, which I quickly walked across and when the traders saw me I gestured to the bridge as I said.

"Come on, grab the guards and drop them in the store room before the lookouts spot us."

They all nodded and immediately began crossing the bridge with the guards while I picked up the one I left behind to get Tephra. When we were all on board I had Toothless wait on the edge of the escape tunnel while I closed up the ramp and turned to the traders as Tephra sank back down until only the third floor was visible. When Tephra was fully submerged I turned to the traders who were all looking around in wonder so I coughed gaining their attention before I said.

"You can all leave the prisoners here in the storeroom while you all wait in the main room but please remember to not touch anything." They all nodded and dropped the guards onto the ground. "Tephra here will take you all back to Berk where you'll be tended to until your leaders come by to pick you up." One of the traders stepped forward.

"But what about you?"

"Both me and Toothless will be dealing with the pirates and when they've all been dealt with I'll send word to Berk and your leaders so the pirates can be collected and be sent to Outcast island while you'll all be given back your ships and your stolen goods." They all nodded. "Now if you'll all excuse me I have crooks to deal with."

With that said I went up to my bedroom and walked out the front door before shutting it tight behind me as I released my hook from my prosthetic. I pointed it up at the entrance to my escape tunnel and launched it before it acted as a grappling hook and allowed me to pull myself up to the tunnels edge where Toothless was waiting. When I was on solid ground again I tossed a stone down into the water to signal Tephra that it was time to go and a few seconds later I watched as his form eventually vanished below the waters. When it was completely gone I turned to Toothless and smiled as I said.

"Let's get to work bud."

He growled and nodded before we turned around and made our way up the tunnel so we could begin attacking the crooks that used this place as a base. It was then I saw through the eyes of the jewelwig that was outside the door saw five armed men walking towards the dungeons door. I smiled knowing they'd be easy targets to take down and quickly pulled out and loaded a bola arrow. I aimed it at the door while using my jewelwig to keep tabs on them and smiled when they began rushing after seeing the two guards who were originally posted outside were missing. The door burst open and they rushed in but paused when they saw me aiming my bow at them as I said.

"Hey, how's it going?"

Before they could react I let the arrow fly and watched as its bola formed and grabbed each of the men, pulling them all together. I smiled as they immediately began to struggle until the bandages burst out of the arrowhead and cocooned them all together making them fall to the ground. I chuckled as they hit the ground while muttering how that was too easy before I walked up and rolled them into the nearest cell. I then made my way out while having my jewelwig drop from its place above the door and onto my shoulder so I could put it away. As I walked I took a breath knowing things were only beginning since a base of this size obviously needed a lot of people to run it meaning there were going to be a lot of fights for me to deal with. I smiled since it'd been a while since I last took on some normal people as opponents and I'd rather missed it since after dealing with mystic enemies normal people are easy but that doesn't mean I could let my guard down. I smiled knowing things were going to get interesting as I said.

"Let's get to work."

Half an hour later

It's been half an hour since I began my attack on the base and in that short amount of time I'd been exploring the base I've had more than a few run-ins with pirates both alone and in groups. Fortunately I'd been able to deal with them all in some way or another before they got the chance to cry out for the alarm, which would've let the entire base know I was here. I admit I was worried about the men I'd taken down being found by others but fortunately there were many rooms in this base and one was a large empty storage room. Thanks to this room I was easily able to hide the men after taking them down and just to be safe I left Toothless there to guard the room. Despite Toothless being there to guard them I always made sure the men I'd taken down were fully restrained using either my arrows, my starswords roots or my spiderpacks wrappings making sure they weren't going anywhere.

Now I was walking down the halls looking for more men and hopefully finding the captain since if he goes down then I'll be able to get some information on this base, how many men were left, if there were any out on the ocean and other things. It was then I saw a metal door with two men armed with spears on either side and knew they were guarding something important. I released my spirit bow and loaded up a bola arrow before jumping out from behind the wall I was hiding behind and let it fly before the men could react.

I smiled as the bola grabbed both men and slammed their bodies together before wrapping them up in the bandages making them resemble a mummy as they collapsed to the ground. I walked up to the door and using the eye of the dragon I saw there were four more men in the room with two guarding the inside of the door. I smiled as I activated my eagle skull pendant and pressed it against the wall and letting the mist like substance seep through and latch onto them before pulling them through. I quickly knocked them both out before using my prosthetic arm to phase through the door and drag the unconscious men with me.

I looked around the room and found it to be completely baron of anything making me think it was just an empty storage room but I shot that thought down when I remembered the guards. It was then I heard a whimper in the back corner and saw someone curled up and holding their knees to their chest while burying their head into them. I slowly walked up to them making them quiver but as I got closer they pressed themselves against the wall and begged.

"Please, don't take me back to the captain, I can't take anymore of what he's doing to my body." I felt sick hearing this as I kneeled down and said.

"Don't worry, I'm not one of the pirates, I'm a friend." The person I now knew to be a woman looked up at me with ocean green eyes.

"How do I know I can trust you?"

"Because the men who were guarding the door now lay unconscious and restrained while multiple other men now lay unconscious in one of the empty store rooms." I then reached into my coat and felt sword pushed into my hand by my spiderpacks leg and pulled it out making the girl wince in fear. "And there's also this." I offered her the hilt of the sword. "And if I were one of them I wouldn't be offering you a weapon to defend yourself." She hesitantly took the sword. "Now come on, we need to get out of here before the men find the unconscious guards outside."

She nodded and stood up slowly allowing me to see she was dressed in dirty rags that only covered her chest and private parts. I also saw she had strawberry blonde hair that grew down to her waist with a nice hourglass figure and she also had a tattoo on her right hip that took the form of a dragons skull and crossbones. I'd seen this marking before on all of the pirate ships flags. The woman covered her thigh with the tattoo as she said.

"When they forced it on me they said it was to show I was the captains property." I felt my stomach churn at this.

"Do you know where he is right now?" She nodded.

"Take me to him and I'll make sure he pays for his crimes." She smiled and gestured for me to follow her.

"I'll be happy to take you to him, fortunately his quarters are near here since he wants me close to satisfy his urges." I felt like throwing up hearing this before I dragged the restrained guards into the room.

"We can't leave them out in the halls since it would let the guards know some ones here to bring down their operations."

She nodded and led me out of the room as I closed the door behind me before following her down the hall claiming that the captains' quarters were close by. Other than the occasional guard patrols that were easy to deal with there were no problems on the way but that just made me more nervous for some reason. It was then we came to an armored door with two guards armed with swords standing on either side of it and keeping a lookout for any trouble. The girl and I were hiding behind the corner so I signaled the girl to stand back a moment before I active my ox flame boots speed mode and rushed up to the men.

They jumped back when I suddenly appeared in front of them but before they could react I quickly waved my prosthetic arm while releasing a medium amount of my knock out gas right into their faces. A second later they collapsed to the ground unconscious as I signaled the girl to come forward but she hid behind me when I reached for the door. I turn to look at her and gave her a smile of reassurance before I turned back to the door and pushed it open but I kept my guard up not knowing what was in the room. So far all I'd been able to see was darkness and nothing more before I walked into the room but continued to only saw darkness before I remembered the eye of the dragon. When I activated its ability I saw the room was completely baron of anything and was for lack of a better term, just an empty room.

Before I could react the door shut behind me followed by the sound of a hissing sound as the room began to fill with gas but I kept calm. I walked up to the door and tried to open it but discovered it to be locked as I coughed on the gas that I now recognized as dragonroot gas. I slammed my prosthetic arm into the door leaving a sizable dent in it before I slammed it into the door one last time breaking through the metal, leaving a hole in the door. I quickly began using my prosthetic to expand the hole so I could get out before the gas knocks me out but when I leaned through to take a breath of clean air. When I did this however a fist the face throwing me back into the room was what greeted me followed by a large lungful of the dragon root gas. My last thoughts as I blacked out however were of the girl who I realized wasn't with me in the room as I wondered if she intentionally led me into a trap and if so why. These were the thoughts that went through my mind before everything went black.
