November 10
After breakfast this morning, I came outside to find Inuyasha standing on the front porch looking out into the distance. He didn't seem to be looking at anything in particular but he was deep in thought.
I went over and wrapped my arms around his waist. He smiled when he saw me and held me close to him. I was glad to see him smile. This was always a hard day for him and I wanted to make him as happy as possible.
"Ready to go?" I asked.
"Of course."
We left the house and Inuyasha carried me for our short trip. I normally rode on his back but that was much more difficult now because I was so pregnant so he carried me bridal style. On the way, we found some flowers and soon after we reached our destination: his mother's grave.
When we sat down we put the flowers in front of it and I said a prayer over her.
Inuyasha reached over and held my hand. "Thank you for always coming here with me, Kagome."
"You're welcome," I said, squeezing his hand. "I wouldn't miss it for the world."
We were silent for a moment as both of us were deep in thought.
"I really wish she was here to see the baby," Inuyasha finally said.
"I agree. She would be so happy. She would say you're an amazing father already."
"I hope so."
"Imagine if they were all here; your parents, my mom, my grandpa, and Sota. Our baby would have so much love, it wouldn't know what to do."
I imagined how things would be if our families were around. I was sure they would all be thrilled when they found out we were having a baby.
Our moms would be so excited to walk me through every step of my pregnancy and would be more than happy to help pick our baby clothes and decorations for our nursery. Inuyasha's father would have been thrilled to have a grandchild as well and wouldn't hesitate to instruct him on everything he would need to know to be a parent.
As soon as I went into labor, all of them would be there to support us; both our mothers right by my side throughout the whole thing and Inuyasha's father coaching him through it and getting him to not panic.
All of them would be thrilled to meet the baby and would be so involved with it. I imagined that my mom would be our designated babysitter, spending time with the baby every chance she could and making delicious meals for it when it grows up. Inuyasha's mom would want to spend as much time with her grandchild as she could as well. I'm sure she would spoil our baby so much, always giving it lots of hugs and love. Inuyasha's father would play with the baby every chance he got and bring it lavish gifts from his travels as a demon lord.
And yet, things were so incomplete. I would have loved to have all of our family here with us. Unfortunately, that could never happen.
Inuyasha put his arm around me when he heard me sniff. "Don't cry, love." I leaned into him and he kissed the top of my head. "All of them are looking down on us. They'll always be here with us in spirit."
