Legend of the Sword Dancer: Princess Diaries

Marianne was alone inside her Royal Chambers, she has just sent off the maid who tends to her. It was still daylight as she began to write on a decorated notebook she hid in a personal chest she requested some time ago. She started reading her entry one by one, starting from the day Karin and Emilya were assigned as her bodyguards.

XXth Day of the XXth Month, of the XXth Year of Our Lord Brimir

Today I was surprised that Karin and her sister Emilya are assigned as my Personal Bodyguards. I guess Sir Vallerie has requested help since I overheard him talk to the Head of the Royal Guard about asking for help keeping an eye on me.

When Marianne was asked to be present when the Iron Masked Knight and Knight in Red will be present in the Castle, she was exited in meeting the two after hearing of their recent endeavors.

"You can remove the mask and hood young ones," Father said. "I am already aware of the truth beneath the guise."

And to my surprise, it was my good friend Karin who was the Iron Masked Knight, and Emilya who was the Knight in Red. I was never close to Emilya de Mailliart, it was mostly because I never met her until Lord Mailliart met with her father a year ago.

Still, she did try to get to know the girl around her age. It was like having two Karins, the only way to differentiate the two were their hair styles.

It was fun having Karin around, we talked a lot like when we were younger. I just felt that Emilya was feeling left out since Karin and I were so close.

One time I dragged both into the kitchen, Karin was adamant, while Emilya was kind of eager to see the Royal Kitchen. She said she knows how to cook, and I asked permission for her to cook.

She made a strange soup with flour strings, meat and vegetables. It was tasty, and nothing I have ever tasted before. The way the soup blends with the meat and vegetables were well thought.

Though there was a bit of a hiccup when Emilya inspected the pantry and found a some vegetables that are close to getting bad. I never seen someone get mad at the "disregard to vegetables", as Emilya stated, but remembering that most of the dishes prepared for us were meat based I never did notice.

Today I managed to get away from the two sisters, and it didn't last long. Somehow Emilya managed to track me down, even if she was unfamiliar with the castle. Karin was came in after Emilya found me, saying that Emilya cheated.

"Princess," Emilya said as she walked next to her. "I understand that being confined inside the caste can be boring, but if you want to get out, you should just inform us, or His Majesty."

"Father would never allow it," Marianne replied.

"Did you do something? Emilya asked. "Or were you injured?"

I wanted to tell her, but I don't feel so comfortable about what transpired that day. It's not that I do not trust her, it's a matter of how she might react to it. Even Karin has not known the reason why I needed to have bodyguards to begin with.

But that didn't stop me. I enjoyed my day as I planned.

Maybe one day when the three of us are alone I will show them.

XXth Day of the XXth Month, of the XXth Year of Our Lord Brimir

Father organized a hunt today, and mobilized quite the number of Lords and Knights as always. Today I had the Castle all to myself, well mother is also here along with the Ladies. It was a school day, so I'm with Sir Vallerie-

"Princess!?" Centurion called. "Are you sure his Majesty approved of this!?"

Currently they are exploring the castle dungeons, the non-prison part to be specific, even the princess know that the prison area is off limits for her.

"Sir Vallerie," Marianne smiled. "I'm the princess, I can do anything I want, except what Father tells otherwise."

"But this is the dungeons," Centurion replied. "Who knows what dangers are here-"

He stepped on a tile that sank, and he is not taking his foot off.

"Sir Vallerie?" Marianne asked.

"Princess you must get out of here," Centurion said. "I have triggered a trap of sorts and I do not know what will happen next."

Marianne looked at the area where Centurion was standing, and then looked at her hand. Centurion noticed that Marianne was holding something, a box? It was something circular?, but Centurion doesn't know what it is.

"It's okay Sir Vallerie," Marianne assured. "That is just a loose tile."

"But Princess-"

"Trust me, there are no traps here."

Maybe I should have told him that I already know that there are no traps in that part of the dungeons. Still, he reluctantly lift his foot from the tile, and noticed that the soil beneath it sank. He then reported it to the Dungeon Master, and soon Father sent an Earth Mage to check if the soil beneath the castle was in need of reinforcing, quite the discovery it was.

Today I'm with Karin and Emilya again, this time we went out through a secret passage I discovered. It lead to an area where a few guards are stationed, and was well hidden from view behind the large flower bush that was well kept by the Royal Gardener.

Both questioned how I knew such a passage, and well, Emilya convinced me to tell otherwise, Father will be notified of such a passage by her. Really? She was both fun and strict at the same time. She stated that it could be used for an assassination attempt, or kidnapping attempt since none of the Royal Guards know of it.

So I showed them how I found such a secret passage.

"A broken compass?" Karin asked.

"An Enchanted Compass." Marianne corrected.

"Where did you find such a thing?" Karin asked.

Emilya studied the compass, thinking of the level of enchantments placed on the compass and what it could do. But it didn't take long before the Princess explains what it is.

"It is the reason why Father kept forbidding me from going somewhere alone." Marianne explained. "And why Sir Centurion was placed as my bodyguard."

The three girls continued on their way back to the castle proper, and found a place where they could be alone, Princess Marianne's chambers.

"During one of Father's Hunting Trips, he brought me along, much to the dismay of my Mother." Marianne began her tale. "During that time, while celebrating a successful hunt, I walked away from them after seeing a monkey holding a sword."

Marianne giggled at the faces Karin and Emilya had when she told them of the monkey.

"I followed the monkey, and stumbled upon an old shack," Marianne continued. "My curiosity got the better of me that day and I approached it, but before I could even enter, an elderly voiced stopped me."

"What brings you to this rickety shack of mine lass?" an old man asked.

Marianne looked around and found an elderly man dressed in an old and dirty clothes sitting beneath a tree. He looked like an old commoner nearing his final day. The man then pulled a small object from inside his old clothes. He looked at it before smiling, and struggled to stand up, propping himself with a wooden cane.

"Judging by the ways your clothes are arranged," the old man said. "You're of the high-class society eh? Not the first time I met someone from there..."

Marianne then ran off in fear, and soon she stumbled to the celebrating crowd. Her father noticed this, seeing his daughter run in fear sent off alarms. And ordered his men to scour the area where Marianne came from.

"After that, Father and I came to the same place I met the old man, and the shack was no longer there." Marianne finished.

"But how did you find the compass?"

"Well," Marianne answered. "When Father helped me get down from the horse, I stepped on it. Father noticed that I stepped on something and picked it up."

"A broken compass?" King Philip asked. "Men search the area, this compass is clean and well kept. There must be someone living here."

He then tossed the compass away, and didn't notice Marianne going over and picking it up.

"What does it do?" Emilya asked.

"All I know is that it points towards something I want." Marianne said. "Simply holding it and wanting to find a way out of the castle, it showed me a path the Royal Guards never knew."

"Princess you should never hold such a thing!" Karin said. "That could be a cursed object!"

"It's not." Marianne replied.

"It could be affecting your mind!"

"But I had it for a while now, nothing bad has happened."

Maybe it was a bad decision to show them this compass. Still, who was that old man, and why did he have this compass? I tried to use the compass to find that man, but it doesn't move.

XXth Day of the XXth Month, of the XXth Year of Our Lord Brimir

Today I get to visit the Academy. It was that time of the year where the second year students participate in the Familiar Showcase. I was exited at first, I really wanted to meet Karin and Emilya's Familairs. But it turned out, both of them were first years, and will not participate until next spring.

Marianne was escorted along the halls by Sir Vallerie. It was agreed upon that Karin and Emilya cannot be her guards for the day, but are instructed to keep and eye just in case Centurion is unable to react in time. Students and teachers bowed respectively as she passed by them.

They soon arrived at the Headmasters Office, and was both greeted by a young man. The room was renovated, and there was a wall that divided the room in two. There was a frosted glass window next to a desk where a young man sat and arranged a stack of scrolls and letters.

"Greetings your Majesty," the man stood and bowed. "Headmaster Osmond has been preparing for your arrival."

"Thank you, Sir-?" Centurion asked.

"Lance," the man answered.

"Sir Lance, what are you doing in the Headmaster's Office?" Marianne curiously asked.

Lance glanced at Centurion who only nodded back. "Your Majesty, I am employed as the Headmaster's Secretary. My job is to help sort the paperwork the Headmaster goes through."

"Is it hard?" Marianne asked.

"Sometimes your Majesty."

Then the Headmaster came out from the other side of the new divider and greeted both of them. She was escorted towards the judge's table and soon the Familiar Showcase began.

When I got back to the castle, I asked mother why Father doesn't have a secretary. She was confused as to what that meant until I told her what a secretary does. She said the role is similar to the Royal Court, since they help Father with the kingdom.

I wonder, does that make Tristain Magic Academy Headmaster Osmond's Kingdom?

As soon as she reached the last entry, she lit a small lamp next to her and began writing again.

XXth Day of the XXth Month, of the XXth Year of Our Lord Brimir

Today...

Emilya was wide awake. It was evening but she could not sleep. She sat up and scanned her room dimly lit by the light of the twin moons. Slowly she walked towards her window and looked outside. The night-sky was clear, she could see the Academy Servants washing the student's laundry. She smiled remembering the chores she would do, but immediately hit a wall of sort, causing her a short headache.

"Those missing memories..." Emilya sighed.

A recent memory of that popped up was one where she was cooking, and preparing for school. Everything was clear, the meal she prepared, Taiga lounging at next to the kotatsu, and a knock on the door. But as soon as she opened the door she could not remember who was there.

"Why can't I remember who knocked?" Emilya thought. "I wonder how are you now... Taiga-sensei, Rin,-"

Her headache returned. Something connected to her past life as Shirou is erased. She could have sworn she heard Rin say a name, but one again she cannot recall who that person was.

"I will recover my memories..."

POST CHAPTER NOTES:

To answer/reply to some recent reviews:

1. Yo Guest... Wow... I mean, to write all that down along with explanations... Though the end was cut, I think you hit a character-limit there... ehe...

(Ehe tte Nandayo!)

2. If I remember correctly, I think replied on why I chose different weapons from the usual (Somewhere in the Previous Chapters...)...

But to those who missed it, basically, majority of Shirou Fics will always have him use EMIYA Arsenal (KnB, Caladbolg II, Hrunting, Rho Aias etc...), and the occasional Arthuria Signature Weapons (Caluburn/Excalibur). But the thing is, UBW is more than those weapons, I mean, HF Shirou used Nine-Lives, Miyu-verse Shirou dropped Ig Alima on Angelica, and with the whole Kaleidoscope(Fate Multiverse) thing, who knows if there is a Shirou that prefers other weapons...

TLDR: There are other Weapons in UBW (For some reason many just feature the EMIYA Arsenal and Arthuria Swords.), and I just wanted to use other weapons for this certain Fan-Fic.

Edit: Minor Changes for the Chapter.
