Roxy's Reports 19: Ghost Girl (Updated) and Roxy
At Café Matsuo, in the evening, after the events of Chapter 41...
"Come on, come on! Almost there now!" Herald said, as he stared at the television screen in front of him. Right now, Herald was playing the video game Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for the Nintendo Switch, and he was on the hardest track: Rainbow Road. It was the last lap, and the character that he chose (Toad) was in first place. After a few more moments, his character crossed the finish line, indicating that he won the Grand Prix 150 CC. "YES! I WON THE GRAND PRIX 150 CC! I'M THE CHAMPION OF MARIO KART 8 DELUXE!"
"Says the guy who lost to Miyu in chess." Yuhiro pointed out from the kitchen, getting Herald's attention.
"I HEARD THAT!" Herald shouted, much to Yuhiro's amusement. Right now, he was making dinner for himself, since Roxy went out for another errand. She told him that if she didn't return for dinner that he was to update Ghost Girl's profile. Once that was done, they can do her profile together.
He took his plate, which contained veal with mashed potatoes and green beans, and cutlery to the living room before sitting down on the couch near the television. As much as Yuhiro wanted to feel bad about Herald losing in a simple game of chess, he found he couldn't. It was too amusing to think about.
"Come on, Herald." Yuhiro said, taking a bite out of his meal. "It's just one chess match. You'll get better at it if you practice with people online."
"The problem with chess is that it's not predictable." Herald replied, rubbing his forehead. "It aggravates me as to how one mistake can lead to me losing."
"Aren't Ignis's supposed to always be learning though?" Yuhiro asked, raising an eyebrow as he cut up the green beans before taking a bite from them.
"Yes, but we shouldn't have difficulty in a simple game like chess." Herald answered. "It's simple logic. Use your chess pieces to capture the enemy's king by locking them down until they can't make anymore moves."
"Well, don't get worked up on it." Yuhiro responded, shrugging his shoulders.
"That's easy for you to say." Yuhiro looked up at Herald, who had his arms crossed. "Isn't there one game that you have trouble with?"
"Not gonna answer that." Yuhiro stated, taking a bite from the mashed potatoes on his plate. "We might as well get started on updating Ghost Girl's profile. Roxy will be home soon, and will want it done by then."
Herald sighed. "Fine. Might as well." Yuhiro picked up his Duel Disk from the table and attached it to his right wrist before grabbing his plate with food and walking downstairs to Café Matsuo's backroom. Once he arrived, he sat down on his spot and placed the dish nearby so he could eat and talk at the same time. Yuhiro then unattached the Duel Disk from his right wrist and put it on the digital keyboard desk afterwards.
"Okay. Where are you?" Yuhiro muttered to himself, as he clicked on the folder containing all the profiles. He soon was able to find Ghost Girl's profile, causing it to appear on the screen. "There you are. Shall we recap Emma's profile?"
"There isn't much to recap." Herald said, looking at the profile. "We already know her real-life identity, her VRAINS identity, aliases, gender, etc."
"I know, but it's good to recap as much information as we can for updates." Yuhiro replied, thinking as he took a bite from his meal. He then typed some information down in the other aliases section, giving it a brief update. "Ghost Girl's 'Altergeist' deck focuses on mainly disruption and swarm tactics to get the job done. The deck also has cards to ensure her monster's abilities can be activated without interruption, as well as recovery if needed."
"In other words, if you're not careful, Ghost Girl can manipulate your field like Fiddler on the Roof." Herald pointed out, causing Yuhiro to turn and raise an eyebrow at him. "What? It doesn't make sense?"
"Moving that aside, Ghost Girl has recently upgraded her deck." Yuhiro continued, ignoring Herald's comment. "First, there's the Level 6 Synchro Monster Altergeist Dragvirion. While she has decent attack and defense points, her abilities are where she shines."
"Once per turn, Ghost Girl can return an 'Altergeist' monster she controls to the hand and instantly negate an attack," Herald stated, "which will allow her to set up more future plays. The second ability is a self-revival ability that occurs if Dragvirion herself is tributed once per turn." Yuhiro typed this information down onto the Ace Monster(s) section of the profile as Herald talked. "Interesting when you think about it. I must talk with Roxy when she gets back about her duel with Ghost Girl for inspiration on new cards."
"While that would help, we're focusing on this now." Yuhiro said. "Dragvirion isn't the only new monster Ghost Girl had up her sleeve."
Herald nodded in confirmation. "Right. Ghost Girl also has a Link 4 'Altergeist' monster called Altergeist Memorygant. After looking the card up, I was able to find a total of three effects that she has. Effect 1: Ghost Girl can tribute an Altergeist monster and give its attack points to Memorygant during the battle phase. Effect 2: f Memorygant destroys a monster by battle, another monster is not only destroyed, but Memorygant can attack a second time. Effect 3: Should Memorygant be destroyed, Ghost Girl can banish a Link Monster from her Graveyard."
"So in other words, Memorygant can gain attack points, destroy more monsters, and protect itself from destruction?" Yuhiro summed up.
"Pretty much." Herald confirmed, as Yuhiro typed the information down and updated the Ace Monster(s) section of the profile. "Anything else you want to cover?"
"We might as well update the LINK VRAINS history section." Yuhiro answered, as he scrolled down to the section of the profile. "Did some research into Emma's family tree, and found out that what she said during her duel against Roxy was true."
"You mean how she betrayed you and Roxy for money to help her father?" Herald asked, causing Yuhiro to nod in confirmation. "Wow. Um, how do you feel about it?"
"On one hand, the fact I know this information now makes me feel bad for Emma, especially for what she was going through at the time." Yuhiro responded. "Although a part of me is a little irked at her for not telling us this information. If she had, we wouldn't have been in the mess we were in." He turned to Herald. "What are your thoughts?"
"Yuhiro, we live in a world filled with so many shades of grey that what one considers good, another considers evil." Herald told him. "Everyone has their own ethical code on why they do and do not things. I don't think it's our place to judge, but to instead acknowledge the fact that we're all different. Ultimately, the decision has to come from you alone."
"I see," was all Yuhiro replied with as he typed some information down into the LINK VRAINS' history section of the profile. "Following the Landios fiasco, Ghost Girl showed up several times during our missions, such as when she worked with Akira after he falsely accused Playmaker of what happened with Blue Angel, the duel to obtain access to the mother computer, and her investigation into the sewers regarding the Hanoi."
"Which led to her defeat against Revolver." Herald added. "After the Tower of Hanoi events, she went to reconcile with Roxy. However, it soon escalated to an argument, and it would have turned to a cat fight had you not intervened Yuhiro."
"There's no way I'm letting Miyu see any fighting, especially in a hospital." Yuhiro stated. "Besides. They worked things out in a duel afterwards." He typed this information down.
"Would have been good to see an actual fight though." Herald lamented.
"Then play Mortal Kombat X if you want a fight." Yuhiro smirked as he typed a few more things down in the Notes and LINK VRAINS' history sections of the profile. "Based on what happened, what Duel Grade should we give Emma?"
Herald thought it over, then said, "Well, I think she should retain her grade of A for Apocalyptic. Ghost Girl may have lost a few duels, but she's recently won one against Roxy because of the upgrades she made to her deck." Yuhiro chuckled to himself. "What?"
"I was thinking that if Emma were here, she would use her flirting techniques to get you to bump up that grade." Yuhiro answered.
"I'll have you know that I'm not someone who can be easily flirted with." Herald told Yuhiro, which didn't stop his chuckling whatsoever. Once Yuhiro was done with the profile, he showed Herald, which looked like this:
Name: Emma Beesho
VRAINS ID: Ghost Girl
Other Aliases: The Mean Lady (Progleo came up with that nickname), Wild Card (an alias Herald came up with himself, as her allegiance is only to herself. However, she's getting better, as she's recently reconciled with Roxy)
Gender: Female
Age: Mid-20s
Residence: Apartment in Den City (Roxy been to her apartment a few times for coffee chats)
Job: Treasure Hunter, Mercenary, is currently working for Akira Zaizen (maybe she'll lighten up and join Raguel's team)
Deck: Altergeist (although it's a slow deck, it focuses on mainly disruption and swarm tactics to get the job done. The deck also has cards to ensure her monster's abilities can be activated without interruption, as well as recovery if needed. In other words, if you aren't careful, Ghost Girl can manipulate your field like the Fiddler on the Roof).
Ace Monster(s): Altergeist Primebanshee (while she has a reasonable amount of attack points, she does help with swarming and recovery options if needed. Her effects can even be activated during the opponent's turn, enabling Ghost Girl to respond to whatever situation that presents itself), Altergeist Dragvirion (a Level 6 Altergeist Synchro monster with decent attack and defense points. However, her abilities are where she shines. Once per turn, Ghost Girl can return an 'Altergeist' monster she controls to the hand and instantly negate the attack. In addition, if Dragvirion is tributed, she can instantly be brought back to her field. In other words, Ghost Girl loses nothing, while the opponent suffers a setback), Altergeist Memorygant (a Link 4 Altergeist monster. Ghost Girl included this card in her deck after losing against Revolver. Memorygant has three abilities that are deadly to her opponent. One: Ghost Girl can tribute an Altergeist monster and give its attack points to Memorygant. Two: If Memorygant destroys a monster by battle, another monster is not only destroyed, but Memorygant can attack a second time. Three: Should Memorygant be destroyed, Ghost Girl can banish a Link Monster from her Graveyard. Offensive Power + Multiple Attacks + Protection = Not good for the opponent, that's for sure).
Skill: Secret Cure (lets her excavate cards from her hand until she draws a monster. From there, she adds it to her hand, and both players gain life points equal to that monster's attack.)
LINK VRAINS' History: Worked for several clients for several years, including for Yuhiro's boss Monty (to put a long story short, Ghost Girl betrayed Yuhiro and Roxy to obtain a large amount of money for her father after learning he had pneumonia. He passed away last year. Hopefully, she's handling the pain well).
Ghost Girl showed up a few times on our missions, such as when she worked with Akira after he falsely accused Playmaker of what happened with Blue Angel, the duel to obtain access to the mother computer, and her investigation into the sewers regarding the Hanoi (which led to her defeat against Revolver).
After the Tower of Hanoi events, Ghost Girl went to reconcile with Roxy. However, it soon escalated into an argument, and would have turned into a cat fight had Yuhiro not stepped in and suggested they settle things with their cards instead of fists (It's a good thing Yuhiro stepped in, but it would have been interesting to see a cat fight). The two of them eventually reconciled their differences and became friends again. There's still a question on our minds: Is she on our team, or will she continue to do things for her own benefit?
Duel Grade right now: A (Apocalyptic) (Ghost Girl may have lost a few duels (ex. Playmaker, Raguel, and Revolver), but she did win one recently against Roxy because of the upgrades she made to her deck. This included Synchro Summoning and a new Link 4 monster, as well as a Hand Trap that can not only be used as Link Material from the hand, but can return there after a Link Summon. Her grade will still be at A for Apocalyptic for now, as giving an S for Savage would be too flattering. She needs to earn the grade, not con it with her flirty techniques).
Notes: Ghost Girl's Altergeist deck focuses mainly on disruption and swarm tactics to get the job done. A smart strategy, I must say, as if she carefully sets her field up, she can bounce cards back to her opponent's hand like they were nothing.
As evident in her duel against Roxy, Ghost Girl has incorporated Synchro Summoning into her deck. Why, I don't know. If I could guess, it could be because Synchro Summoning is easier than Fusion Summoning or Xyz Summoning. After all, with Synchro Summoning, you add the level of the Tuner with the level of another monster. Plain and Simple.
Was once friends with Roxy and Yuhiro, but due to the Landios fiasco, drifted apart for an entire year. Ghost Girl reconciled with Roxy and Yuhiro following the events of the Tower of Hanoi. Not sure why, but she appeared to be genuine. Nevertheless, we'll keep an eye on her just in case (after all, if she turns bad, Progleo can maul her until she yields.)
Satisfied that the profile was updated, Yuhiro closed it before opening a new document and setting it up for Roxy. As if on cue, she arrived at Café Matsuo.
"I'm home!" Roxy announced, as she went inside of Café Matsuo. After putting her purse in the living room, she walked over to the backroom where the others were. "You guys updated the profile on Emma?"
"Yup." Herald confirmed. "You can look it over later when you have the chance."
"Speaking of profiles," Yuhiro said, turning to Roxy, "you ready for your own?"
"Yes I am." Roxy answered.
"In that case, why don't you take a seat and-." Roxy shook his head, surprising Yuhiro.
"I got a better idea," she told him.
Ten minutes later, in the living room...
"Do we have to do it like this?" Yuhiro asked, raising an eyebrow. Right now, he and Roxy were in the living room, sitting on the couch. Herald was on the table near the couch, only he had a camera in his hand. Attached to the Duel Disk was an extender cord.
"I always wanted to be interviewed." Roxy gleefully answered, crossing her arms. "And besides, with that extender cord attached to your Duel Disk, Herald can instantly type whatever I say into the profile without actually typing on the keyboard."
"Yeah, but..." Yuhiro began, only for Roxy to get upset. "Fine. I'll do it, but just this once."
"All right! Then let's get started!" Roxy exclaimed, eager to get started. Herald did a countdown using his hand before motioning to Yuhiro that it was rolling.
"Hello, and welcome to Roxy's Reports." Yuhiro said, looking at the camera. "Today, I'm interviewing the creator of the reports, Roxanne Matsuo. Welcome to the interview, Roxy."
"Thank you for having me, Yuhiro." Roxy replied, a large smile on her face.
"To start, would you be willing to tell the audience your LINK VRAINS ID?" Yuhiro asked.
"Simple. I chose Angelica after the character in Pirates of the Caribbean 4." Roxy answered. "I mean, who wouldn't want to be the daughter of the deadliest pirate of the seven seas?"
"Fictional seven seas..." Herald muttered, but quickly closed his mouth after Roxy gave him the 'look'.
"I see." Yuhiro thought this over. "Aside from Roxy, do you have any aliases you go by?"
"Well, I'm known as a craftswoman." Roxy replied pridefully. "My cousin taught me to work with tools in the shed when I was younger. And that's how I was able to make your gauntlets, Yuhiro."
Yuhiro nodded. That made sense. "Okay. Can you tell us a bit about your deck and how it works?"
"I'm glad you asked, Yuhiro!" Roxy enthusiastically replied, giving a smile to the camera before turning to Yuhiro. "The 'Plunder Patroll' deck is my pride and joy back in the day when I worked as an agent on the black market agent. It focuses on Special Summoning 'Plunder Patroll' monsters from the Extra Deck either through regular means, or through the effects of cards during the opponent's turn for free. However, its based on the attribute of the monsters the opponent controls or are in their GY. Once this is done, I can equip them with 'Plunder Patroll' monsters to turn their effects to Quick Effects, allowing me to respond to my opponent's effects immediately. I also have a card that changes attributes of the monsters my opponent controls, as well as a Field Spell card that boosts the attack points of all 'Plunder Patroll' monsters by 500 for each card in the Spell & Trap card zone."
"Interesting..." was all Yuhiro could say. "What about your ace monsters? I'm guessing they help with bringing out your pirate fleet of ships?"
"That's right!" Roxy responded. "The Link 2 Blackbeard, the Plunder Patroll Captain lets me Special Summon a 'Plunder Patroll' monster from the Extra Deck with the same attribute that a monster on my opponent's field has, and then equip it with a different monster before drawing one card from my deck. As for my boss monster, it would be the Link 3 Plunder Patrollship Queen Anne. If I Link Summon it using Blackbeard, I get to draw cards equal to the number of 'Plunder Patroll' monsters it points to. Also, I can tribute a 'Plunder Patroll' monster to make my opponent discard up to three cards, as well as boost Queen Anne's attack points by up to 1500 for each card discarded until the End Phase."
"Sounds like that's a nasty effect." Yuhiro commented. And one I don't want to ever face, he thought in the back of his head. "Would you be willing to tell us what you did on the network?"
Roxy frowned upon hearing the question.
"If you don't want to, then I understand." Yuhiro offered.
"No. It's best that I come clean. Especially once Miyu comes home." Roxy told him. She took a deep breath before continuing. "A long time ago, I worked as a black market agent. One of my missions was to rob a bank with a scurvy crew I agreed to work with. I ended up robbing 38390000 yen from the Scarclust clan as a result from the mission." A small blush appeared on her face as she chuckled from the memory. "Along with that mission, I also worked as a treasure hunter on the LINK VRAINS server, where I rode the data storm waves on Plunder Patrollship Queen Anne."
"Pardon me for interrupting." Yuhiro said. "How exactly did you bring your duel monster to existence? Did you use a program or something?"
"The ship resembled Plunder Patrollship Queen Anne, you dingus." Roxy answered, in a dangerous tone that made Yuhiro sweat drop in terror. "Prior to my retirement, that ship brought terror to anyone who dared to cross its path. Speaking of retirement, once Miyu's parents died, I took her in and used family funds and hard earned money to pay for her hospital care. I may have also thrown in some black market funds as well."
Yuhiro's eyes widened in surprise. This he didn't know. "That took a lot of guts for you to say," he finally said. "If you could say one thing to Miyu about your past, what would you say?"
Roxy took some time to think about it before answering. "Well, I'd like to apologize to her for keeping this a secret for so long, and hope that she would forgive me." She took off her glasses and wiped some tears that came out of her eyes.
"You'll be all right. There, there." Yuhiro assured Roxy, patting her on the shoulder. "I'm sure Miyu would forgive you for what you did. Although with this information, you are aware you'll have to be a positive role model for her now that she's awake, right?"
"I know." Roxy answered, putting her glasses on. "I'll do my best to be a positive role model for her."
"See. That's the spirit." Yuhiro gathered his thoughts before continuing. "We already know the rest of the story and how you and I met, so I'll skip over that part. Would you be willing to give us your Duel Grade?"
"Why that's easy!" Roxy said. "I'm giving myself an S for Savage. Even though I haven't dueled in a long time, I can still kick ass because of my deck's uniqueness. Besides, I reduced Emma to 300 life points in our duel."
"You definitely did." Yuhiro agreed. He turned to the camera. "Thank you for joining us Roxanne Matsuo for the interview. We'll see you all next time!" He made the motion to Herald to stop rolling.
"About time." Herald said, lowering the camera to the ground. "My arms were getting tired."
"If you can still move them, then they aren't tired." Yuhiro replied, picking up his Duel Disk and taking the extender cord out of it.
"Come on!" Roxy exclaimed, running downstairs to Café Matsuo's backroom. "I want to see my glorious profile so bad!"
"Be right there." Yuhiro replied, walking downstairs to the backroom while carrying his Duel Disk. Once he arrived, he noticed that Roxy had a look of shock on her face. "What's wrong, Roxy?" All she did was point to her profile on the screen, which looked like this:
Name: Roxanne Matsuo (goes by Roxy)
VRAINS ID: Angelica (because there was a female character named Angelica in Pirates of the Caribbean?)
Aliases: Old Lady (Herald regretted calling her that once, as it led to him getting her wrath), Craftswoman (when she isn't working on the web, she's making technology with her bare hands and whatever material is lying around in the workshop. She's made gauntlets for Yuhiro, which have proven to be useful).
Gender: Female
Age: 34 (she surprisingly looks younger though. Looks like Yuhiro can no longer tease her about possible shipping matches).
Residence: Café Matsuo (serves as both a business and a home to live in).
Job: Fast food manager at Café Matsuo (she even makes Yuhiro work from time to time).
Deck: Plunder Patroll (the deck focuses on Special Summoning the Extra Deck monsters through regular means, or through the effects of cards during the opponent's turn for free based on the attribute of the monsters the opponent controls or are in their GY. After this is done, they can equip themselves with 'Plunder Patroll' monsters to turn their effects to Quick Effects, allowing her to respond to the opponent's moves. She also has a card that changes attributes of the monsters her opponent controls, as well as a Field Spell that boosts the attack points of all 'Plunder Patroll' monsters by 500 for each card in the Spell & Trap card zone).
Ace Monster(s): Plunder Patrollship Queen Anne (a Link 3 monster with reasonable attack points. If you Link Summon it using Blackbeard, the Plunder Patroll Captain, you get to draw up to three cards from your deck equal to the number of 'Plunder Patroll' monsters it points to. In addition, Roxy can tribute a 'Plunder Patroll' monster to make her opponent discard up to three cards, and boost Queen Anne's attack points by up to 1500 for each card discarded until the End Phase. Nasty card to deal with), Blackbeard, the Plunder Patroll Captain (a Link 2 monster with decent attack points. With Blackbeard's effect though, Roxy can Special Summon a 'Plunder Patroll' monster from the Extra Deck with the same attribute that a monster on her opponent's field has, and then equip it with a different monster before drawing one card from her deck. Not only does this effect provide flexibility, it also allows Roxy to respond to her opponent's moves).
Skill: Unknown (we've only seen her do one Master Duel).
LINK VRAINS History: A long time ago, Roxy worked as an agent on the black market. One of her significant missions was to rob a bank with a gang or scurvy crew. She made it off with 38390000 yen from the Scarclust clan.
She also worked as a treasure hunter on the LINK VRAINS server, riding across data storms like they were the sea (In the past years when the data storm was active and before Ai sealed it away, thus cutting off data material supplies). Her ship, believe it or not, resembled Plunder Patrollship Queen Anne.
At some point, she retired and took in Miyu after her parents died. Roxy looked after her using family funds and hard earned money in fast food, with small amounts of black market money going in every now and then.
Adopted Yuhiro years later, and through her connections, got him into the Black Market.
Duel Grade right now: B- (B for Badass with a -) (It's been a long time since Roxy's dueled against someone. She could have came with us in the network, but we needed her in the real world for tech support. Even though her dueling skills have been rusty, Roxy's able to Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, and Link Summon strong monsters from her Extra Deck. She didn't even have to go through the regular methods to bring them out as well. This shows her deck's uniqueness. If she gets back into it and practices, she may truly be a badass).
Notes: Angelica's Plunder Patroll deck focuses on Special Summoning the Extra Deck monsters through regular means, or through the effects of cards during the opponent's turn for free based on the attribute of the monsters the opponent controls or are in their GY. After this is done, they can equip themselves with 'Plunder Patroll' monsters to turn their effects to Quick Effects, allowing her to respond to the opponent's moves. She also has a card that changes attributes of the monsters her opponent controls, as well as a Field Spell that boosts the attack points of all 'Plunder Patroll' monsters by 500 for each card in the Spell & Trap card zone.
Outside of LINK VRAINS, she's very efficient as both tech support and craftsmanship, as she created several gauntlets for Yuhiro to use in the network.
As she hasn't dueled in a long time, her skills are rusty, but that doesn't mean she's not able to duel. Her ability to utilize her deck shows that.
Remember: She has a short fuse when interrupted or has her moment of glory stolen, so don't do that. Also, be careful not to call her old or mean (Ai and I learned that the hard way).
Roxy then slowly turned towards Yuhiro and Herald, anger starting to form on her face.
"I know you're angry, but..." Herald began.
"But WHAT?!" Roxy exclaimed, snatching Yuhiro's Duel Disk from him in surprise and making Herald look at her. "I said S for Savage, and instead, you give me a B- for Badass with -?!"
"In all honesty, it makes sense..." Herald tried to explain, but this made Roxy angrier.
"Oh, so that's your answer?!" Roxy said in a frightening voice that made Herald tremble. She turned to Yuhiro, a terrorful smile spread across her lips. "I'll be in the living room having a nice chat with Herald on the profile."
"Uh, sure." Yuhiro hesitantly replied. He did not want to get involved with the coming conversation about to happen.
"HELP ME!" Herald cried out, as Roxy took the Duel Disk and went back upstairs. "YUHIRO!"
Yuhiro chuckled to himself as he turned his head to the screen, ignoring Herald's pleas for help. If it weren't for Roxy, who knows what would have happened to me, he thought, as he went to work, a smile on his face. Thank you Roxy. For adopting me and being there for when I needed it.
Elsewhere, at an apartment in Den City...
A young man in his late teens named Saburo Inoue whistled to himself as he made a cup of coffee. He had curly, seaweed-like blue hair, thin eyebrows, and grey blue eyes. His attire consisted of nothing more than a black shirt and blue jeans. After finishing his coffee, Saburo took the cup back to his desk, which consisted of a large computer screen on a stand, along with a notebook containing a list of targets. Before he could get to work, the phone on his desk soon began to vibrate. Picking up the phone, Saburo answered it upon learning who was calling him.
"Yeah?" Saburo said.
"This is Kitamura of SOL-!" Kitamura began, but was soon interrupted.
"To think I'd be called by you of all people Kitamura..." Saburo interrupted, laughing to himself. "Have you become desperate already?"
"SHUT UP AND LISTEN!" Kitamura replied, now starting to get furious. "I have two jobs for you that intertwine with one another. If you do these jobs for me, I'll reward you more handsomely than any other employer you've had!"
Saburo stopped laughing. "I'm listening," he said, in a tone that indicated he was paying attention.
"The first job I need you to do is hack into Raguel's servers and retrieve all the information you can find there." Kitamura stated. "I know you want to get started right away, but that's where the second job comes in."
"How so?" Saburo inquired, raising an eyebrow as he laid back in his chair.
"I've heard rumors of a Cyberse challenge that will be appearing in the coming weeks." Kitamura replied. "Since Raguel and Playmaker use Cyberse cards, it is likely they'll appear to complete this challenge and retrieve the cards before anyone else. As you're a Duel Assassin..."
"You want me to kill them before they retrieve the cards?" Saburo finished, a sadistic grin on his face.
"That, and give the cards to me." Kitamura confirmed. "One last thing. Raguel has something called an Ignis. If you bring that to me as well, it'll make me look the other way once I return as SOL Technologies' security chief. In other words, you'll have the freedom to do whatever you want in the network without fear or consequences."
Saburo's grin widened. The freedom to do whatever he wanted, with the chance of getting arrested reduced to zero? This was an opportunity he couldn't pass up. "Alright, Kitamura. I'm in," he decided. "When do you want me to start?"
"Not right now." Kitamura answered. "Wait for the Cyberse challenge to be released to the public. Once it's released, Raguel and Playmaker will be drawn to it like moths to a flame, which is when you'll strike. In the meanwhile, I'll send you some information on Raguel and Playmaker's dueling strategies for you to look over. I'm sure it'll help you destroy them."
"Appreciate the help. And don't worry. I'll get the job done." Saburo promised. "Speckles out." He put the phone down on the table before laughing, the grin still wide on his face. "This is gonna be fun..."
Meanwhile, in LINK VRAINS...
In the network lied an ancient Mayan temple, which was surrounded by jungle-like elements. Two unanimated stone golems resembling totem poles were stationed near the entrance.
At the depths of the temple was a single room, large enough to fit up to two Duel Fields for duelists. On one side of the room was the entrance, with lanterns to welcome those who entered. On the far end of the room was a horizontal coffin, which appeared to be storing a relic. Two torches were on both sides of the coffin, as if to give significance to what was being guarded.
Suddenly, the wall near the coffin glowed a bright purple color, forming hieroglyphics before coming out as strands of data. The data formed into a figure that wore a large black rag over its body. It had a ghostly pale face, with a white beard as if it were bound to the temple as its guardian for a long time. The ghost also had a golden accessory with a red jewel in the center. After being formed from data, the ghost let out a haunted screech, causing the ground underneath the coffin to rise above it, declaring its intent to guard it from unworthy travelers that sought the prize inside it.
"Only thou who is worthy will be able to wield the Cyberse," the ghost muttered, before releasing a wave of energy that brought the temple and the surrounding jungle-like elements to life.
