"I'm sorry, I just have to ask," Teo burst out when Caspian led them into the captain's cabin, "What on earth happened to your accent?"
"Teo!" Azula scolded. She was not impressed that in the absence of Suki she had apparently become the arbiter of good manners, but had to admit she was curious too. Last they'd been here Caspian had spoken with a very strong Telmarine accent. Now he sounded almost more Narnian than Azula did. It had taken the better part of five years as queen of narnia for her accent to shift half as much, and she'd started off much closer to a narnian accent than Caspian had.
"Oh, that," Caspian chuckled, "There's a funny story, actually."
"Do tell," Azula put her chin in her hands with a smirk. It was rude to ask, but if he was volunteering…
"It was perhaps a year after you left Narnia," Caspian explained, "I was coming off of a long trip to visit all the villages that the native narnians had built while they were in hiding from the telmarines. I was alone with almost no one about but native narnians for the better part of six months, some of the most enjoyable months of my life up to that point."
"And?" Teo prompted, the grin on his face saying that he knew all too well that there was more to it than that."
"And when I came back, I used a particularly narnian turn of phrase in front of one of the stuffier telmarine nobles that had stayed in Narnia and he scolded me for sounding like a barbarian," Caspian said with a wide grin, "So I had one of the native narnian scholars teach me how to speak like a narnian purely out of spite."
"Ha!" Teo slapped the table laughing, and Azula sniggered along with him.
"I tend to slip a bit when I get angry, but I'm getting better about that," Caspian continued, "Nothing irritates the stuffy ones like me dressing them down sounding like a narnian, so I've been practicing."
"Oh, I'll have to try that sometime," Azula wiped a tear of mirth away, "Or tell Zuzu about it. There are a few warmongers on his council that could do with a bit of nose tweaking like that."
Don't mind me, just headcanoning all over the place here. This is canon, it's just dumb. Happy April Fools!
