Ch. 21: Yoru ni naru mae ni
At the rented apartment, Kibo is preparing dinner as it was his turn to cook, and while at it he is glancing at Naegi, who is looking at his notebook, showing that he is currently studying. Kibo glanced at Naegi while recalling what transpired at Hope's Peak Superhero Academy, where he had a talk with the student council, in which the council president requested that Kibo tell Naegi that they would like to talk to him in private.
Kibo is unsure whether to tell Naegi about what the council president asked him or not, as the teen cyborg is still in doubt about the student council's intention, and wondered if they are really sincere in wanting to have a chat with Naegi, or if they have an ulterior motive just like the Steering Committee members who see Naegi as garbage.
Once dinner is ready, he called Naegi to get ready, which the other boy nodded, and as the two boys dine, Kibo thought carefully before coming to a decision, and there he told Naegi that the student council of the main course wished to see and talk to him, which Naegi is somewhat surprised, as he wondered what the student council want with him.
"They…want to meet me…?"
"Yes."
"Why? I haven't stepped foot at…"
"They said that they want to know about you."
"Me?"
"Yes."
"Why?"
"It's like this…"
Kibo is explained that the student council said that they were intrigued about Naegi, as aside from doing hero work, the student council also saw two Main Course students are befriending Naegi, first being Kibo and the other being Maizono.
Kibo then said that the student council approached him and requested that he pass the message to Naegi and nothing more, though the teen cyborg tells Naegi to be on guard as he doesn't know if the student council really intend to talk to him or if they are planning something.
He also cautioned Naegi to be wary towards the Steering Committee, revealing that they have a disdain towards the teen boy because of not only he is on the reserve course, but they feel disgusted at the fact that Naegi befriended two main course students.
"Really, Kibo…?"
"Yes."
"…"
"That's why you should be on your guard. There's no telling what the committee is up to."
"I…see…"
"Naegi-sensei…"
"I understand."
"Good to hear."
By then the doorbell rang and Kibo went to check it out, and is quite surprised to see that Maizono is there as she paid a surprise visit, and asked the teen cyborg if Naegi lives here, which Kibo wondered why is she looking for Naegi.
Her cheerful and friendly personality somewhat made Kibo feel at ease for now, and led her inside and said that he will call for Naegi and tells her to wait at the living room area.
"Please wait here."
"Hmm…?"
"I will call Naegi-sensi."
"Okay."
"Please feel at home."
"Sure."
"It won't take a while."
"Okay."
Kibo then told Naegi that Maizono is here and the teen boy is surprised and when he checked out the living room, Maizono smiled and waved, and there she greeted him and said that she came to return his wallet that she found at the streets, which surprised him and thanked her.
There the two teens began to chat and Kibo leaves the scene to give them privacy, seeing that Maizono doesn't appear to have any ulterior motive towards Naegi and that both teens are getting along well with one another.
Outside the apartment, some of the main course students are flabbergasted after seeing Maizono enter Naegi's apartment, having managed to locate where Naegi lives, and they were in disbelief that a main course student would actually visit a reserve course student, and they are contemplating in hatching a scheme that would discredit Naegi that would lead to being expelled from Hope's Peak Superhero Academy.
"And that's that…"
"Yeah…"
"Sounds good…"
"That would work…"
"That reserve course reject will surely be kicked out…"
"I'm in…"
"We should start…"
"Huh?"
However, four members of the student council of Hope's Peak Superhero Academy showed up and overheard the conversation, and STRONGLY ADVISED them not to go through with what they are planning or else they will regret it.
The Student council members are shown and turn out to be:
- Suzuko Kashiki
- Tarō Kurosaki
- Tomohiko Gōryoku
- Tsubasa Kamii
"Excuse me…"
"We overheard…"
"That is a bad thing to do…"
"You are Hope's Peak students…"
"Why would you shame the academy over a jealous episode…?"
"Do you want to be expelled?"
"I wouldn't do that…"
"Indeed."
The main course students realized that they have been busted and left the scene, and there the student council members glanced at the apartment where Naegi lives, and they wondered what would they expect should Naegi accept the invitation, as they are really curious about the reserve course student, as they saw Maizono paying him a visit and felt that Naegi has an unusual charisma that seemingly attract two Main Course students.
"Makoto Naegi…"
"He really is a curious person…"
"Yes. even Maizono went to visit him."
"I wonder…"
"Did Naegi got the message."
"Only time would tell…"
"Then we should wait."
"Yes."
The student council members then decided to take their leave as they have other things to do, feeling that Naegi may have gotten the message that the student council sent via Kibo, wondering if Naegi would accept the invitation or not.
As the student council members left, they did not notice that two members of the Steering Committee are spying on Naegi's apartment and are really irritated at the fact that Maizono visited Naegi's apartment and are really intend in kicking him out of Hope's Peak Superhero Academy, and couldn't stand the fact that he even attracted the student council.
"Damn that Naegi…"
"Even the student council have been INFECTED…"
"That reserve course brat is a scourge."
"We got to do something…"
"But how?"
"We need to plan."
"I'll come up with something…"
"Please do."
Suddenly a scream is heard where a neighbor is shouting for help after it showed that burglars ransacked her home, and this attracted attention, as Naegi, Kibo and Maizono, who heard the cries of help, came out of the apartment, where they can be heard verbally responding, which Naegi said that the suspects could be armed and tells Maizono to use her singing voice to mesmerize the robbers while Kibo would use his speed to deliver knock out punches.
The two teens nodded seeing the logic in Naegi's suggestion.
"Maizono…use your powers to disorient the robbers…Kibo…"
"I see!"
"I got it!"
"Then let's go!"
"Okay!"
"Okay!"
"Be careful, they could be armed!"
"Right!"
"Right!"
As the trio went into action, the two Steering Committee members followed the trio where they saw that the three hero students have taken down the burglars and the victim is grateful to the three teens for their help, and while Kibo said it was nothing, Maizono stated that Naegi is the one to thank as he said that he knows this place that enabled them to figure out where the burglars would head off to, hence they were able to stop the burglars from escaping.
"It's Naegi-kun you should thank."
"It was his plan that enabled us to nail these crooks."
"So you should thank him."
"We are just along for the ride."
"He is the true hero."
"She is correct."
"So here is the hero."
"…"
As police arrived and rounded up the suspects, Maizono said she will file a report and submit it to the headmaster so as to inform him about what occurred just now, with Kibo said he would do the same and they agreed that this would show that Naegi worked hard and deserved a chance to be transferred to the Main Course of Hope's Peak Superhero Academy.
The two Steering Committee members were aghast at hearing this as they are opposed to letting Naegi get the chance to be transferred to the main course, believing that he has no right and is undeserving due to him being on the reserve course. They became more irritated seeing Maizono acting too friendly with him and sensed that Naegi might INFECT other main course students if left alone.
"Damn that Naegi…"
"Even Maizono has been INFECTED…"
"That reserve course brat is a scourge. We can't ignore this any longer"
"We got to do something…"
"But how?"
"We need to plan."
"I'll come up with something…"
"Please do. time is of the essence."
Left with no choice, the two Steering Committee members left and intend to hold a meeting with their fellow members to discuss on what to do next. They are now determined to do something about Naegi as they are unwilling to let him be and tarnish the image of Hope's Peak Superhero Academy, and are thinking of a way to bypass Jin Kirigiri's stand on the matter.
They felt that Jin is becoming too lenient and soft, which they believe that it would give the impression that GARBAGE like the reserve course students are on par with the main course students, and this made the Steering Committee members the resolve to address the matter before it is too late.
"We must tell our fellow committee members about this."
"Yes, they must know."
"We can't let that Naegi spread his DISEASE to the rest of the main course students."
"But Kirigiri stands in the way."
"We'll have to deal with him first."
"Then we should discuss this tomorrow with the rest."
"I agree."
"Then it's settled."

The next day, the scene shifts at the headmaster's office where Jin receive the report about what occurred last night, and Kizakura smirked after reading the report that Naegi played a part in stopping the burglars, and this gives Jin reason to consider the thought about giving Naegi the chance to be transferred to the main course.
Jin said he will think about it carefully, though Kizakura told him to be careful as he reminded that the Steering Committee members are against it, which Jin said that he will not let them influence his decision and be intimidated.
"The steering committee won't have their way."
"Really, Jin?"
"Yes."
"Will those guys be willing to listen?"
"They will have to accept the fact that Makoto Naegi deserve the chance to get transferred to the main course of Hope's Peak."
"Sounds reassuring."
"…"
"…"
At the student council clubroom, the student council are having a meeting as they got word that Naegi is partially responsible in capturing the burglars with assistance from Kibo and Maizono, and now they are awaiting if Naegi would visit the student council or ignore it altogether, as they are sure that Kibo has told him about it.
"So…you have heard…"
"Yes."
"Naegi is the talk of today…"
"Do you think that he got our message?"
"I do hope so."
"He better leave a good impression…"
"I'm looking forward to today."
"Me too."

Hope you liked this chapter, in which Naegi became a hot topic, as he left a good impression from the headmaster and the student council, but also earn the ire from the steering committee. Will this lead to something good or bad…?
