Chapter 21
Kagome slowly woke to a somewhat dark room. She still felt drained, but the need to relieve herself was calling greatly. However she soon noticed this wasn't her place. Which meant she didn't just walk into her bathroom. And had just walked into InuYasha's room. This room was even darker than the one she just left, which led to a mixed reaction of events. With no light to see, Kagome stumbled on something laying on the floor. Of course she gave a small "Yelp!" as she started to fall. However she didn't hit the floor, and was caught by something or someone.
Kagome tried to stand, but was soon lifted up and placed on something soft. This is when she noticed them. Golden eyes slightly glowing in the dark that surrounded her. The need to pee had left her for now as she stared into his eyes. She had seen them when he came to save her from Naraku. It was the first time she saw InuYasha like that. He was so majestic and god-like looking. From his silver hair and dog ears to his fangs and claws. And his voice when he spoke all but took her breath away. "It's good to see you're awake Kagome, but why are you here in my room?"
It took a minute for her to find her voice and even when she tried to speak, she couldn't find her words. All she could think to say when she did find her voice was. "S-Sorry it's so dark and I got a little lost in the dark." Kagome felt so embarrassed too, she had forgotten where she was. But she was asleep when he brought her here.
"It's okay Kagome." To Kagome's surprise InuYasha wasn't mean at all to her as he spoke. He even helped her back to her room, which wasn't where she needed to be. "Here I'll turn on the lights so you can see better. And if you need to, the bathroom is just outside your door to the right. Sorry I didn't tell you sooner, I didn't want to wake you to tell you earlier. You were so tired from everything that happened."
Kagome's heart was racing now, the way he talked to her was so kind. He wasn't harsh in his words unlike before when he seemed hateful and grumpy. With a smile Kagome thanked him and went into the room she had left minutes ago. Her face was surely as red as a tomato. And once she thought InuYasha was gone, Kagome left out a long breath. So many thoughts were running through her head at that moment.
As her back was resting against the door, Kagome slowly allowed herself to side down till she was sitting on the floor. 'It's him, but how? He's the one in my dreams and the one who said he'd protect me. All this time I feared a monster and now I know he's no monster at all.' Tears soon came to Kagome as she thought about her past. There was so much she wanted to know about that night of the fire. And yet...she was scared to know the truth.
Even InuYasha was finding it hard to find sleep after being so close to Kagome. And now the scent of her tears were driving him crazy. 'Damn! Why, why does she have to cry?' It was the first time InuYasha actually thought to himself without his youkai chiming in. It felt strange after all these years, to be able to think without interference. 'Is this how it's going to be now, no more youkai side taking over?'
InuYasha decided to walk out onto the balcony for some fresh air. He needed to escape the hellish pain in his chest. This woman was doing it, she was stealing his heart. When he caught her and placed her in his lap. She fit him perfectly, everything about her was making him crazy. Looking up towards the distance stars, he thought about it all. 'No I can't...I can't let myself love her no matter what. Love is just a curse, and I don't want this for her. I was a fool before to think a woman would love me.'
Kagome tried to go back to sleep, but her mind would not rest. Most of all she wanted to ask InuYasha so many questions, but how would she ask? "He was so nice to me last night, he even seemed like he actually cared about me. Still I have a feeling today will be different between us."
After she brushed out her hair Kagome headed out of her room. It was Miroku who greeted her with a smile. "Well, good morning Kagome, it's wonderful to see you're up. Would you like some coffee or tea? I'll start breakfast in a bit, usually InuYasha yells his menu around this time."
Kagome smiled. "Coffee sounds good and I'm not really hungry at the moment. I um….would like to talk with InuYasha if I could about something. Though I doubt he'll talk to me."
Miroku didn't quite know how to answer her, even though he knew both InuYasha and Kagome needed to sit and talk. "Well I can't really say what his mood will be today. I do agree you both need to sit and have a long talk. InuYasha wouldn't think on these lines though. His heart is so cold at the moment, I don't think even Hell's fires could warm it."
Kagome lowered her head and sighed. "I'm truly sorry I've caused all of this. I know things would be better if I left and kept my distance from here. Or at least stayed away from InuYasha. I'm sure seeing me brings him a lot of pain."
As Kagome Miroku talked, InuYasha was in his room. He was getting ready for work at the restaurant. He was a mixture of emotions and felt trapped on how to vent them. It was when Kagome started talking that he truly felt broken. 'All of this shit has happened in her life because of me and that jewel. All because I loved a woman that didn't believe in me and love me as I loved her. All these women had suffered and all because of my mistake. I can't take this anymore, I can't handle the weight on my shoulders. And I can't hurt Kagome anymore. She deserves better, and she deserves to live.' After these thoughts, InuYasha quietly opened his bedroom door and walked past both Kagome and Miroku without a word.
He didn't want to see her, he didn't want to hurt her and most of all he didn't trust himself around her anymore. However it was Miroku who followed him out the door and stopped him. "You were listening then? Tell me how long do you plan on running away from this, from her. I can see it's eating you on the inside InuYasha"
With a harsh voice, InuYasha growled back. "Don't even go there with me monk, you know nothing. You don't know how I feel, and don't even try to stop me. Just make sure she's gone till I get home. And make sure you have that special sutra ready when I get home. And don't play dumb, I know you have the death sutra. I'm ending all of this tonight. And if you refuse I'll just kill her and take the jewel. She doesn't deserve to suffer any longer."
Miroku said nothing and went back in with Kagome, he had another idea and one he hoped would talk some sense into InuYasha.
