Mate of My Desire
Chapter 24
Time had passed for Fenrir and Hermione since their reconciliation. Not only were they back on the same page together, but were now completely involved with each other's lives. It was almost like their lives orbited one another, while also maintain their own personal lives, as well. It almost seemed unnatural how closely they had become ever since what they thought of as their epic fight. But for Hermione and Fenrir, the pace was perfect. After all, why question love when it felt right, no matter how late or early it blossomed and under whatever circumstances? It was their lives, and their love, and they liked it just fine.
They had gone on several dates as well, though for Hermione, one of the more memorable ones was when she had taken Fenrir to see a Muggle movie. She had dressed in a pair of blue jeans, a pale yellow floral blouse, and tan sandals that had Fenrir wanting to nibble at her toes, while Fenrir had worn a pair of jeans, a grey t-shirt that did little to hide his muscular frame, and new black trainers thanks to Remus taking him shopping for proper clothes. She had taken him to an outdoor theater near her old home—being in the area bringing back memories of times with her parents—and the two of them sat on a blanket, munching on popcorn and drinking fizzy soda pop while watching 1933 film The Invisible Man. Fenrir had been so fascinated by the moving picture, and not like the ones in the Daily Prophet. His bright blue eyes had shined in complete and utter wonder and confusion, because he couldn't comprehend how Muggles could create something so amazing to him with what he called their "primitive thinking." It hadn't been meant as an insult, and Hermione understood that, though reminded him that she had grown up Muggle before finding out she was a witch, and sometimes still considered herself one.
Fenrir, along with taking his mate on dates, had also introduced her to his pack. She had been nervous at first, not sure how she would be received by what was essentially his family, but they had welcomed her with open arms. Apparently, the pack had been waiting for a long time for their Alpha to find his mate, and despite all that they had heard about Hermione and what she had done to Fenrir, they accepted her nonetheless and took to her smoothly. However, there had been a moment where many of the females had asked the brunette when she planned on giving Alpha pups, to which Hermione had blushed furiously while Fenrir simply smiled at her cute reaction, as well as the thought of a pup that was his and his mate's.
Yes, things were going great for the couple, and they had become more loving together. Of course, there were still things that needed doing now that they were back on track, and one of those things were reconciling with the Weasleys. It wasn't important to Fenrir, and he could really give a damn about the family, but Hermione at least wanted to make good with them—not Ron—despite everything that happened. And so, that was where they were going today, though Fenrir would rather stay away and be at his mate's flat with her.
Hermione exited her bedroom and looked at her love, seeing him casually leaning against her wall, though she could see the tension in his body. Walking over to him, she smiled up at him reassuringly and said, "Everything will be fine. And if you don't want to, you don't have to go."
"I know, but I don't want Weasley getting any funny ideas if you go alone," Fenrir replied. "I know you can handled yourself, and after receiving his punishment, he would know better than to try anything, but it would also make me feel better."
She smiled up at him and stood on her toes to kiss his cheek. Smiling at him she said, "I appreciate it. And the sooner we do it, the sooner we can come back home. Ready?"
Fenrir sighed and nodded before following Hermione out of her home an d down the sidewalk a ways before Disapparating away. Moments later, they landed within the wards surrounding the Burrow, walking up to the strange house just as Ginny stepped outside. Ginny greeted them with a wave and met them halfway greeting, "Hello Hermione, Greyback. What brings you both here?"
"Hello Ginny. We're here to talk with you and your parents," Hermione replied.
Ginny nodded and beckoned them to follow her into her home. Once entering, Ginny called out, "Mum! Dad!"
Molly exited the kitchen, about to ask her daughter what was it, only to stop at seeing their unexpected guests. Despite her surprise, she couldn't help but smile politely and say, "Hermione dear, welcome. It is so good to see you looking well. Hello to you too, Greyback."
Fenrir grunted while Hermione smiled at the Weasley matriarch. About that time, Arthur came from upstairs, spotting the two newcomers and smiled at them, walking over and giving Hermione a hug in greeting and holding out a hand to Fenrir, the werewolf staring at it before shaking it. Gesturing for the couple to have a seat, Arthur asked, "So, what brings you by?"
"Well," Hermione started off. "…now that everything has settled down ever since the last time we were here, I thought now would be a good time to come and reconcile with you all."
"Reconcile with us?" Ginny asked confused.
Arthur shook his head. "Hermione, there is nothing for you to reconcile with us about. Nothing that happened that caused everything to escalate was your fault."
Molly nodded, though her eyes kept darting towards Greyback in wariness. "That's right, dear. We don't blame you for what occurred. Our son did something that sparked a chain of events that was impossible to stop, not giving any thought to the consequences. And to put you in the middle of it was unfair."
"And just because you are with Greyback now doesn't mean we don't want you to come around anymore," Ginny said with a kind smile. "I mean, we'll get used to him since it is obvious you two are a package deal now. Don't avoid us forever, okay?"
Hermione smiled and nodded. "Okay. I just wanted to make sure there still wasn't any bad blood between you all and me."
"There was never any to begin with," Arthur replied. He then looked at Greyback. "Although, we are still getting used to Ron's new life after his punishment."
"He'll be alright," Fenrir said. "He'll adapt, and you all will, too."
Molly stared at him for a moment before turning back to the brunette. "Anyway, it was lovely to see you again, dear. And you are looking much happier than the last time we saw you."
Hermione smiled and looked up at Fenrir. "I am happy."
The love between the two was easy to see for the Weasleys, and knew that despite all that had happened before, the two of them had come through it. They were meant to be together and always would be. The sound of footsteps descending the staircase caught their attention, and soon Ron made his appearance. He walked into the living room with everyone else, glancing at Fenrir before his eyes settled on Hermione. Nodding at her he said, "Hi Hermione."
"Ronald," Hermione replied curtly.
Ronald looked down for a moment before looking back up at the couple, looking rather repentant. "I just…I wanted to apologize for all the trouble that I caused, and for what I did to you and Greyback. I've had time to think about everything with a clear head, and I've come to realize that I've hurt you. I've hurt people and lost important friends because my pride was hurt and my jealousy. It…it wasn't right, and I'm sorry. Ever since Greyback…bit me…and I've become a werewolf, it has given me insight into a group of people that I didn't have before and the struggles they go through to be just a part of society and accepted. I realize now that I didn't think they deserved it if they weren't like Professor Lupin, and the fact that you wanted to be with Greyback made my prejudice clear. Anyway, the situation has humbled me and I really am sorry for hurting you and Greyback, and I hope that maybe we can be friends again in the future, even though I know now that I am undeserving of it."
Silence followed Ron's apology, the rest of the Weasleys looking back and forth between him and Hermione. Fenrir was waiting for his mate to speak as well, though he was tense and had been since the Weasley boy had made his appearance. But he was also tense as to what his mate would say. If she accepted his apology, there was nothing he could do about that, as it was her choice. But if she wanted to be friends with him again, he didn't know what he would do.
Hermione stared at Ron for a moment before standing, her hand lightly tugging Fenrir's as she did so he'd stand as well. She walked over to the front door as if to leave, but stopped to look back at the redhead. Her face unreadable, she said, "I'm glad that you finally saw the error of your ways, Ronald. As for your apology, I accept it. It wouldn't be right for me to hold a grudge, even though it is appropriate for me to do so. However, I want to move forward with my life and let the past go now that things are better. But we will never be friends again, and I mean that."
Ron stared at her for a moment before nodding. Hermione looked back at the others and smiled at them, bidding them 'goodbye' before she and Fenrir left the Burrow. As they did, Hermione felt some sort of weight lifted off her shoulders, glad that she had faced the Weasleys and cleared the air, even if there was nothing to clear like they said. And as for Fenrir, he was glad his mate had no intention of ever being friends with or around Weasley ever again. He'd caused enough damage to her after finding out she was his mate, to them as a couple, and to her even before finding out she was his mate; he was sure of it, though he had no proof of his misdeeds of the past against her. Still, he had come for Hermione's sake, and she said what she had to say. And like she had said, they could finally move forward with their lives.
The night of the next full moon was approaching closer and closer, and that meant that the time to give Hermione the Mating Bite and Mate Mark was coming upon them. Fenrir was excited about it, he really was, because then Hermione would be his mate in true, and not just in words. His mate had told him several times since bringing the subject up to her that she was ready, but for some reason he had some doubt about it. He knew she knew it would mean her becoming a werewolf as well, but he couldn't help but feel that she might back out. But his mate was rather strong-willed, and Hermione didn't back out of anything she believed in. Still, he felt he should talk to someone about it. And who better to talk to than his pup, Lupin?
Getting his chance to talk with him came a week before the full moon. Potter apparently had organized a dinner at Grimmauld Place and had invited he and Hermione, as well as Lupin and his family. When his mate had told him that, he thought the timing couldn't have fallen more perfect.
They arrived at Grimmauld Place on the night of the dinner, Harry greeting them with a hug for Hermione and handshake for Fenrir. Five minutes later, the Lupins arrived, Teddy excited to see his godfather and immediately reaching out for him to be held. Going into the kitchen to sit at the table, Hermione was surprised to see a nice spread on the table, waiting to be served and eaten.
Remus took a seat next to Tonks and said, "Thank you for inviting us, Harry. Though, I can't help but feel there is a reason for inviting all of us specifically."
Harry smiled and nodded saying, "Yes, there is. Everyone, I want to officially introduce you to my girlfriend."
"You have a girlfriend?" Hermione asked, feeling bad that she hadn't known that, especially because she had been hanging out with Harry a lot lately—outside of her time with Fenrir, of course.
Harry, seeming to know what she was thinking and feeling, smiled and said, "It's okay that you didn't know, Hermione. Besides, you were dealing with a lot personally that you needed to work out. That, and it is honestly a rather recent development."
Tonks grinned and asked, "So, who's the lucky girl?"
"Well, you all know her, so she isn't a stranger. And she'll be here shortly, I believe."
As soon as the bespectacled wizard said that, the sound of the Floo Network was heard from the location of the nearby living room, followed by soft footsteps drawing closer to the kitchen. Soon, the door opened and in stepped in Luna Lovegood. Smiling serenely at everyone, she greeted, "Hello all."
Blinking in surprise, Hermione replied, "Hi Luna." Turning to Harry, she asked, "You're dating Luna?"
Harry nodded and greeted Luna with a kiss on her cheek as she moved to stand next to him. He held out a seat at the table for her to sit in next to him before announcing that they could all dig in. As they ate, they spoke about things going on in their lives, such as when Harry and Luna began dating and how their relationship went from platonic friendship to romantic partner. They also reminisced over certain events that may or may not have gotten them into trouble; i.e., Harry and Hermione. Fenrir was surprised to hear about how his mate not only deduced Lupin was a werewolf in her third year at Hogwarts, but that she and Potter had witnessed his transformation and had been chased by him through the Forbidden Forest. Lupin looked embarrassed and stated that it wasn't one of his best moments, though he would put it up there along with the times Sirius Black and James Potter had locked Severus Snape in the Shrieking Shack with him, a wooden door the only thing separating them during his vicious transformation. Not only had he felt awful about it, but he had been furious with his friends. Of all the so-called pranks they could have pulled, that one had to be the worst. Both Harry and Hermione had been horrified to learn that, but Fenrir had been furious. Not only could someone have gotten hurt that night, but those idiots could have gotten his pup killed if he had succeeded. Yes, he understood Lupin didn't want to be a part of his pack—which was fine—but he always looked out for his pups' wellbeing (the ones he had changed), at least making sure they were safe and they surrounded themselves with good people. So, to hear this made Fenrir believe that neither Black nor the elder Potter were good people. But it was in the past, and that was where it would stay.
When dinner was over, Kreacher served them dessert (deliciously rich chocolate cake with strawberries on top) and they ate it until they couldn't eat anymore. Well, to be fair, there wasn't any more of it due to Remus and Fenrir having three huge slices, much to the amusement of Tonks and Hermione. Once they finished that, they retreated to the library for tea and further discussion, either as a group or amongst each other individually. During this time, Fenrir pulled Remus to the side, telling him that he wanted to speak with him. Once they were standing in the corner, Remus asked, "What is it?"
Fenrir looked at the younger man and said, "Just wanted to inform you that on this coming full moon, I plan on claiming and marking Hermione fully. I will be performing the Mating Bite and give her the Mate Mark."
Remus stared at Greyback, surprised at hearing the news that left the older werewolf's mouth. Then again, he also wasn't really surprised. Ever since he had found out Hermione was Greyback's mate, he knew that his sire was going to claim her completely one day. And with the brunette being so committed to Greyback, even loving him, it didn't surprise him at all that he was going to do that. Still, did Hermione know?
"Are you sure about it?" he couldn't help but ask. "And can I assume Hermione knows? Is she sure and okay with it?"
"Yes, yes, and yes. I told her about it all and we've discussed it. And she's accepted it."
"So she knows that you will bite her after you two…mate? At the height of the full moon?"
Fenrir nodded. "Yes, we've talked about it in full. She's very determined to go through with it, though her face turned and stayed rather red when I told her the details."
Nodding, Remus replied, "I thought so, and just wanted to be sure. Hermione is giving off pheromones that she is ready to be claimed by her mate, so I figured something was going on between you two."
The elder werewolf smiled at Lupin's words, as he too had noticed the pheromones his mate had been giving off. Those pheromones were those that a mate to a werewolf gave off not only when she was ready to be claimed, but also as a result of the Pull with her accepting her mate in his full capacity. Or in simple terms, when she really loved him. And Hermione really loved him. Of course, the smell was faint so as not to attract other werewolves and only be enticing to him, but it was there.
Remus looked at Fenrir, his green eyes flashing almost yellow, as if the wolf inside him was at the surface. His eyes hard, he said in a warning tone of voice, "You had better take care of her and make sure she is comfortable, Greyback. Hermione is my friend and I won't have you treating her terribly."
"I would never," Fenrir replied easily, and he meant it. He knew there was some sort of implied threat behind his pup's words, but he was glad to know that he thought of Hermione as a member of his own pack.
Satisfied with his answer, Lupin nodded and walked away to join his wife, leaving Fenrir be. However, Fenrir was surprised to see Potter approaching him, a somewhat threatening look on his face. Before he could open his mouth to speak, the boy spoke first.
"Listen Greyback, I've accepted you and accepted that you are a part of Hermione's life now. And because I know you are here to stay, I feel I have every right to say this. Hermione is like my sister, alright? She's my family and she means the absolute world to me. Therefore, I'll be damned if you do anything to hurt her in any way. So you had better take good care of her from now until the day you die, or you will have to answer to me. And believe me, I have no qualms about hauling you to the Ministry if I have to."
Though he was amused by Potter's little speech, he also knew that the boy was serious and would carry out his threat. Nodding in understanding, he told him that he'd never hurt his mate, but would take his threat into account. He then glanced over at Hermione, seeing his mate talking to the Lovegood girl, the brunette holding Teddy in her arms as she did, the sight making him smile and wonder what she'd look like holding a pup of their own. Hermione, feeling his eyes on her, smiled at him lovingly, to which he returned it just as sweetly.
Fenrir planned on taking care of Hermione during the night of the full moon, before, during, and after they mated. He planned on taking care of his mate for the rest of their lives, and he planned on loving her for just as long and longer. But of course, he knew the main thing right now was the night of the full moon and getting Hermione through her first werewolf transformation. Yes, he honestly couldn't wait for that night to come.
Author's Note: I hope you all enjoyed this chapter and will stay tuned for the next one and more to come. Though, I believe that I am about to wrap this story up. I'm pretty sure I am near the end of Fenrir and Hermione's story, but we'll see. Again, I hope you all enjoyed this chapter and stay tuned for more. Love, SehunsBae37.
