Chapter 25: Epilogue
One Year Later
Bella's POV:
I stretched my arms above my head and padded over to the balcony. A breeze was blowing the misty ocean air towards me. This is peace. It took a while to get here. The California catastrophe was the catalyst for peace. We gained two new family members, Summer and Autumn. We also enjoyed a nice road trip and made a nice little scrapbook of it.
We went everywhere. We left California and saw the Grand Canyon in Arizona. Then we arrived in New Mexico in time for the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. We left there and drove to Texas and had a nice camping adventure. We even went tubing down the Guadalupe River. From there we travelled into Louisiana. The French Quarter was amazing and full of life. After that Autumn insisted, we go into Mississippi because some vampire named Elijah told her that was where some of the best blues music was played. So, we bought tickets to listen to blues at The Lyric in Oxford.
Afterwards, Summer insisted we go on this cathedral caverns tour in Alabama. Which led us into hiking in the Cheaha Mountain in the Cheaha St. Park. We even got to see the Noccalula Falls. Afterwards, we made it down to Florida, where of course those rambunctious boys in our group partook in Gator Wrestling when we gave ourselves a private tour of the Everglades. Before we left for Georgia, we climbed Shark Valley Tower.
We enjoyed just traveling on the road before we reached what used to be home, North Carolina. Edward and I joined a tour of my old home while everyone else stayed home. I was grateful to have my love with me as I walked the halls of my past. The tour guide had all the details wrong of course and there was not one mention of me. Surprise surprise.
After the tour, I came to the realization that my Vanderbilt past was simply that. My past. The Biltmore estate was no longer my home. Nothing of meaning was left for me on these grounds. My home is my Edward, the Cullens, the pack, Autumn and Summer. I did not need to tie myself to my past. I need to move forward and adapt. I need to live and make the happy memories, like what we had been doing on our road trip. I decided that leaving North Carolina behind would be what was best in order to make the most of the future.
So, after a lengthy debate and voting. The group, as a whole, decided to take up residence on Isle Esme. It is safe for us all to explore and expand upon our supernatural skills without having to hide. Regular shipments were being made for the hungry pack and those who needed human necessities. Everyone is having the best time. I am even getting a handle on my crazy powers. I can astral project and help those in need find peace and when I am done, I enjoy time with my family.
Looking down I can only chuckle. The boys are playing football on the sand. Wolves versus Vamps. They are so competitive. I don't even want to know what they bet this time. Probably something gross again. I caught Edwards eye as he managed to score a touchdown against Paul. I wolf-whistled for my pan, pun intended. He smiled his wonderful crooked smile at me and tossed the ball to Emmett. He ran across the sand up to the compound we built in order to accommodate everyone. Edward climbed the wall and jumped onto my balcony. He grabbed my hand and pulled me into his arms. I wrapped my arms around his waist and sighed contentedly.
"Hello my love," Edward said. "How was work?"
"You are such a dork," I laughed into his chest. "But everything is great. A few more souls were given peace."
"I love you more each day," he said and kissed the engagement ring he gave me a month ago.
"And I don't know what I would do without you," I told him honestly.
"You could conquer anything, Bella the Vanderbilt Vampire."
"Just Bella. That is what defines me."
"Alright, my just Bella. Are you ready to join the family on the beach?"
"Absolutely."
