"Are we sure they're old enough?" Bow asked for the hundredth time.

Glimmer sighed, looking up from the tracker pad. The Best Friend Squad was taking Darla out of Etheria's atmosphere, two loud rambunctious toddlers underfoot. Finn and Angie ran around the captain's chair screaming and laughing while Adora tried to pilot with Catra purring in her lap.

Melog was trying to get the kids into a semblance of order by helpfully picking them up in his mouth like kittens when it looked like they were about to fall or break something important.

"you always say that, Bow. It's fine" Glimmer insisted. "Relax. The First One's tech we detected should be the next planet over"

"But what if there're monsters?" Bow fretted.

Adora laughed. "I think we can handle monsters"

"You're so cute when you're confident" Catra grinned. Melog glowed happily.

Adora blushed then let out a sharp breath as Finn and Angie added their weight to Adora's lap.

Melog meowed and put his paw on the pile of his family members.

"Ok you little monsters" Adora grinned scratching Finn's ears "how about story time to calm you guys down? Where were we? Oh yeah…"

…years ago…

Glimmer opened her eyes. They weren't dead? They weren't dead!

The Best friend Squad stood stunned in the middle of Darla locked in a fearful group hug. Melog who had flared up red at Catra's emotions, relaxed.

They were, however, in the middle of nowhere. There was nothing but dried up dirt for miles.

"oh boy so glad we decided to do this" Catra drawled sarcastically.

"Shut up, you" Adora smiled, kissing her. Catra's expression turned dreamy. Melog purred loudly.

Bow's eyes sparkled and Glimmer rolled her eyes.

"Ok, ok you two. Bow, you got the signal?"

Bow shook his head as Adora kissed Catra again and turned into She Ra. She closed her eyes and put her hands on the ground. Suddenly green grass and flowers exploded across the countryside.

"I found the signal" Bow said "But…its weird. It feels like…it feels like the day we met you, Adora. When my pad picked up your sword."

They followed the signal, Bow glued to his tracker pad, Catra's nose to the ground.

They made their way to a clearing in the newly made forest. It was dark under the canopy and Glimmer looked around nervously clearly remembering their "ghost" encounter.

"Yeah, this is definitely familiar" Bow murmured, moving his tracker pad back and forth "There!"

A sword the same make as Adora's lay in then grove. It had a gray hilt embossed with rubies.

It was broken.

Adora lifted it gingerly, cradling it in her arms like a baby.

Bow, Glimmer and Catra hugged her tight.

"My people" Adora whispered.

…present day…

'And we never found out who the sword belonged to" Adora concluded. Finn, Angie and Catra were all asleep. Adora smiled fondly.

"We're here" Bow announced

Adora shook Catra awake and carried the children out of Darla.

The Best Friend Squad emerged to a grim sight. They were on a plain of brown, dead grass. In front of them was a dilapidated castle of black stone. Melog slunk out of Darla reluctantly, whimpering.

"Uh, maybe this isn't such a good idea" Bow suggested, his voice rising.

Glimmer took his arm gently "I don't think anyone is around. Let's take a look"

They walked into the castle's dusty entrance hall. A dirty red carpet led up a huge flight of stairs above which hung a family portrait.

They looked at the picture in shock. There was a blond man and twin blond babies but what gave them pause was the mother. She had a familiar dorky smile, familiar gold hair and grey eyes.

"Adora that woman looks just like you" Glimmer whispered "I think that's your mother"

"but…" Adora stammered "then I'm that baby. But that would mean…"

"Who's there?"

They turned to see a blond man their age holding a sword with a huge beast by his side. Melog growled at the animal.

It took a second for them to understand what was off about him. Then it clicked.

His face. He had Adora's face.
