Hi, everyone! I hope you all enjoy this story as much as I did while writing it. Please feel free to review, I would love to hear your thoughts.
Disclaimer: I don't own My Hero Academia or any of its characters. Mizuki, however, is my own creation.
Let's start with the story, shall we?*
Chapter 29
There were a lot of ruckus outside of the infirmary, a handful of worried students from class A wanting to come in to see how the twins were doing. Recovery Girl was strict, not letting any of them in and giving them enough reassurance that they were fine.
She let out a sigh as she stepped inside the infirmary, closing the door behind her. The kids these days. They were way too energetic for their own good and didn't know when too much was too much.
She glanced up, finding Katsuki sitting next to his sister's bed. He had his forehead resting on his intertwined hands and his eyes hidden beneath a shadow. Mizuki lay peacefully on the bed, her clothing long since dried and replaced as well as the linen.
After Aizawa managed to get rid of the strange effects that imprisoned her body, she started to sweat and her body temperature returned to normal. She was given an IV drip to ensure she didn't dehydrate and most of her injuries were fixed with a kiss.
What bothered her greatly was the existence of another Quirk inside Mizuki. It was one that she had no control over. There were many speculations that came to mind but the fact that Aizawa was able to stop the effects of her body meant that it was definitely a Quirk.
What type of Quirk it was and what its true purpose was? None of them knew. All they knew was that it seemed to stop or inhibit the working of a Quirk. What made it worse was that it didn't only effect external Quirks. It affected her own as well.
"I see you're awake. I healed up everything so that you'll be ready for the finals," Recovery Girl spoke with a soft smile. She went to sit down on her chair, eyeing the twins and keeping her worried thoughts to herself.
"I… I won…" Katsuki spoke up and gritted his teeth, his grip on his hands tightening as he trembled. Recovery Girl watched the boy, her lips pressed into a straight line. He was greatly bothered by something.
"Yet…why does is feel like I lost…?" Katsuki murmured softly, mostly to himself. He was dead set on becoming number one and fought Mizuki with everything he had. He wanted to show her that he was enough for her and now…while she lay unconscious on her bed…he felt guilty.
"Because you're overthinking everything, Explodo-kill," Mizuki's voice reached his ears and his eyes snapped towards his sister. She looked at him, crimson orbs blazing and a warm, comforting smile plastered on her lips.
"Mizuki…"
"What's with that face? It looks like someone died!" Mizuki exclaimed as she watched her brother's conflicted expression. She could feel his swirling emotions and inhaled deeply, a hand coming to her chest as she washed her calmness over him.
"I'm glad to see you're awake, Mizuki. I was a bit worried about your overheating," Recovery Girl spoke up and Mizuki glanced at the female, her face contorting into fear. "That said… You irresponsible, girl! I told you to not push yourself! You were supposed to fight in your capabilities!"
Mizuki winced at every light hit she received with the older woman's cane. With each hit, Katsuki's anger grew for the old woman interrupting their conversation and nearly snapped until the older woman sighed out.
"Next time, I refuse to treat you if you push yourself too far!" She said and Mizuki's eyes briefly widened. She had been worried. Mizuki chuckled lightly and nodded, a bright smile forming onto her lips.
Recovery Girl then returned her attention towards her desk, grabbing a few things before she exited the room without another word. Mizuki was grateful, knowing that she was giving the two of them some privacy.
"Now, since that's settled…" Mizuki grabbed her brother's head, squeezing painfully as she glared daggers at the scowling male. "What's with this face? Was beating me into a pulp and gaining victory over me not enough for you, huh?" Mizuki stated in a dark tone, steam coming from her mouth.
"That hurts! Let go, Designer Freak! I'm obviously not satisfied with a win like that! You weren't at your best! It has no point-" Katsuki received a hard hit from Mizuki's fist, a bump forming onto his head as she sat up.
"What? Are you telling me that I went easy on you? Don't be ridicules! I was in top shape when I went off against you! I know how important it was to you so I even rested beforehand!" Mizuki snapped at him.
"I gave my all out there and even when I was tired, I gave my all. I never go into a fight half assed. I've got too much pride for that! You won. Fair and square. And it hurt like shit!" Mizuki said with frustration dancing in her eyes.
"Idiot! You won! And even if you didn't get the chance to show it off, you're still my number one!" She pointed out and the male's eyes widened. Mizuki let out a breath and relaxed her tensed muscles, a small smile came onto her face.
"I know that's not enough for you, but you're stronger than me, Katsuki. You should feel proud that you beat your Big Sis," Mizuki said in a calmer tone. Katsuki noticed the annoyance, the frustration that she didn't win. She honestly did try her best and his injuries could vouch for that.
"Then…" Katsuki grinned and kicked away the chair he was sitting on. "I'm the best. I'm number one! You better not forget that, Mizuki! I'm the only one you should keep your eyes on! You hear me?!" He shouted at her and Mizuki blinked.
That's what it was. She thought and snickered, Katsuki growling at her. All this time he was worried that she would fade away from him. He wanted her to keep her eyes on him. What he didn't know was that he was too dazzling not to stare at.
"What are you laughing at?!"
"Nothing. I'm lucky to have such a strong brother," she said and enjoyed the way his cheeks tinted. "Though, I'm proud that I managed to break your nose and get a tooth out. Don't underestimate me, Explodo-kill."
"What did you say?! You wanna go again?! You only got it because you got lucky!" He snapped at her, his eyes spiking and his scowl deep. He had his hand palms twitching, ready to take his sister right then and there.
"Yeah, yeah, whatever you say. Don't you have the finals to go to?" Mizuki asked and watched as his body went rigid. She sweat dropped. Was it possible that he actually forgot about the final match or did he not want her to remind him?
"I know already! You better be prepared to see me on that number one pedestal, Mizuki! I'm going for an indisputable number one spot! I'm going to be better than Deku and Half-and-half Bastard!" Katsuki shouted and stomped out of the room, slamming the door behind him.
Mizuki found herself laughing at his antics. He stayed by her bed to make sure that she was alright, giving up the spare time he had for his matches. Sometimes, he was too adorable. He truly was admirable.
Mizuki heard the vibrating of her phone and raised an eyebrow. She must've left it here with her bag when she rested earlier. It lay on the cupboard next to her bed and was silent for a brief moment before going off relentlessly.
She snatched the phone with much impatience, a vein popping out from underneath her skin. Who the hell was blowing up her phone now? If it was anyone from the class, they were going to get it. All she needed was a little bit of rest.
She blinked a few times as she looked at the messages. It was from her group chat with Akira and RInako. She went inside, scrolling up as she paled. The messages she received when she was unconscious seemed never ending until one message.
"Idiot Designer is fine! Stop texting her, you morons!"
She was certain that it was her brother's text. No other person would dare to unlock her phone and think they could get away unscathed. She stifled her laughter at the insults that followed from her two friends. The messages faded away until only a few pictures were sent, everyone single one of them saying 'Get Well Soon'.
"You guys can calm down now. I'm in the infirmary and doing perfect. A bit stiff from my brother's onslaught but other than that, I'm perfect!" – BestDesignerMichan
She found herself smiling warmly as she stared at the pictures. She really had the best friends in the entire world. She watched the last photo as Rinako had tears in her eyes Akira giving her an irritated look, both anxious but still crazy.
"Mizuki-chan!" – KawaiiRin
"Can we see you?" – BoysAreLifeAkira
Mizuki blinked in surprise. Rin was probably too busy crying that she couldn't see what she was typing in her keyboard. Akira, on the other hand, wasn't beating around the bush. She wanted to make sure she was alright.
Recovery Girl came waltzing in not long after, Mizuki's red eyes looking at her. "Um, Recovery Girl. Will it be possible for me to go outside?" Mizuki's body went rigid at the intense gaze she received from the pro hero.
"You're supposed to be resting!" Mizuki's face fell and the older woman shook her head. "But I can't keep you here if you're recovered. I already put the prescribed drugs in your bag," Recovery Girl said and Mizuki's face lit up.
She immediately started typing in her keyboard, her eyes gleaming enough to make the elderly woman smile. It didn't seem like she was about to go watch a match. Instead, it looked more like she couldn't wait to see someone.
"Meet me outside in five." - BestDesignerMichan
"Teenagers…" She said as she slowly went to work on removing the IV from Mizuki's arm. The ash blonde didn't flinch, her history of hospitals giving her enough courage not to be bothered by needles anymore.
"You're all set," Recovery Girl said as Mizuki stepped out of her bed, changing into the new P.E. uniform jacket that was laid next to her bed on the cupboard. She was surprised to find that it was sleeveless and smirked. It was perfect.
"You better thank Aizawa Sensei when you see him later today," Recovery Girl said, her back turned towards Mizuki. Mizuki stared at the older woman, perplexed as to what she said and what she meant by it.
"Aizawa Sensei…?" She felt her phone vibrate again and silently cursed. She said five minutes and they were already rushing out to the entrance. Give a girl a break! She still needed to get there before them!
"Damn it, those two! Thank you for everything, Recovery Girl!" Mizuki waved as she practically flew through the door of the infirmary. The elder woman stared at the empty space in the door before turning away.
It was true. Mizuki didn't know about anything. Neither she nor her brother was aware of the awakening of a Quirk inside her. She didn't understand why the dark-haired teacher hadn't told them either but hope that he would do so soon.
Mizuki inhaled deeply as she received the entrance, out of breath from running at full speed. She could feel her body cool down from her actions, everything back to normal. She looked down at her arms and flexed her hands.
She didn't know what happened to her, but she hoped that it would never happen again. The pain was excruciating when she forced herself. She was concerned, and made a mental note to look up on her Quirk to make sure it didn't happen again.
"Mizuki-chan!" MIzuki yelped when she was tackled by a familiar blonde-haired girl. She nearly fell onto the ground, if it wasn't for her feet that dug into the ground. The girl pouted at her, tears brimming in her eyes.
"Stupid!" Mizuki winced when she received a hard hit on her hit from the female and held the bump that formed. "You had us worried sick! Next time you want to blow everything up, think of the others!" Rinako scolded.
"I would like to stop her, but I feel she did a good job," Akira spoke up behind her and Mizuki gave her a look filled with betrayal. Akira shrugged off the gaze she received, not fazed at all. Who could blame them?
"Alright! Alright! I'm sorry I worried you. I'm fine now, see?" Mizuki gestured to her body, only a bandage on her cheek and the rest uncovered. Rinako, who was sceptical, crawled around her, eyes roaming intensely over her body until she saw satisfied.
"Good. Now since we're done scolding you… That was awesome! It went 'bam' and 'pow'! You blew up most of the stage! You guys are crazy strong!" Rinako bounced, her previous anger mood part of the past.
Akira chuckled and smirked. "My favourite part was the tooth. Man, that was one hard hit. I enjoyed the nose breaking as well but nothing could beat that punch. You made my day," Akira said and had the two girls stare at her blankly.
"What?"
"Akira-chan is such a sadist," Rinako pointed out and Akira scoffed. She pressed out her chest to show her proudness. Negative comments always had the opposite effect on her, making her swell with egotism.
Mizuki chuckled. "You guys want to take a walk?" She asked and they eagerly nodded, joining her side as they moved towards the forested area that was open to the public. It was lush and green, perfect to sit and relax on.
"Ah, this is the life…" Rinako sighed happily as she sat down next to a small pool of water. She hummed as she twirled her index finger. Her Quirk activated, causing the small pool of water to float up and rotate in a circle. The water soon turned to ice and then to steam and then back to water again.
"It's just like you to play with water, Rinako," Akira said with a playful roll of her eyes while the blonde stuck her tongue out childishly. Mizuki chuckled as she sat against a tree trunk located behind her.
It was the most relaxed she had been the entire day. All of her matches were finished and only the finals were ahead. She didn't feel obligated to watch the last match, feeling her brother clearly through their connection.
"Mizuki-chan, you're going into full blown relaxation. Don't you want to watch the other matches? You know, see who's against your brother in the finals and all that," Rinako asked and Mizuki smiled while shaking her head.
"Nah. Besides, I think Recovery Girl wouldn't be pleased if I got all riled up from the matches. I can always watch them on TV back at home," Mizuki replied, her two friends glancing at each other as they frowned.
"Are you sure you're alright? You would usually kill to watch something like that," Akira stated and Mizuki's smile saddened. She glanced down at her hand palms. Her previous match was still fresh in her memory. She could practically feel her brother's roaring temper and how he was prepared to blow through the last match.
"Right now, this is fine," Mizuki replied. The moment she thought about the tournament, she was going to break her thoughts over why her Quirk backfired on her. She currently didn't have the strength to deal with it. Moreover, she had confidence in her brother. After all, he did vow to be number one.
"O-kay. Then, let's talk boys! Loverboy really showed himself out there today. You've got great taste, Mizuki," Rinako said with a thumbs up. "Too bad your brother beat him up though…" Akira snorted and crossed her arms over her chest.
"Yeah, right. That guy's a monster. Besides, even if that Redhead beat him, he still wouldn't give his consent for him to date his sister," Akira said and Rinako frowned deeply. Mizuki watched as the dark-haired female press her lips together.
"I think he made a big enough statement," Mizuki said, attracting their attention. "He was the front horse in the cavalry battle and stood his ground against Katsuki. He might not admit it, but Red's starting to grow on him."
"That's…a little hard to believe… I guess it's one of those legendary myths that Katsuki actually has any other emotions other than…KILL! KILL! KILL!" Akira mocked the last bit and caused the other two to burst out laughing.
"T-That's so accurate!"
"Seriously, though. Are you guys going to date each other or not?" Akira asked, Rinako wiping the tears that ran from her eyes. She continued to play with the water as it rotated in the air as they watched Mizuki.
"He wanted to ask me, but I told him that he needed Katsuki's blessing first. I guess after everything is said and done, I could consider it," Mizuki said and received the blonde girl shaking her shoulders violently.
"Don't mess with the boy's heart! He needs you to say 'yes'! You like him, don't you?!" Rinako asked, Akira nodding in agreement in the background. "You need to go out with him, kiss and have lots and lots of cute babies!"
"B-B-Babies?! W-Wait! J-Just because we like each other and kissed, doesn't mean we're going to marry and have kids one day!" Mizuki stuttered, her face reddening. The two girls froze up, colour draining from their bodies.
"Kissed? You… You kissed?"
Mizuki's hand flew up to her mouth and she cursed. She was so flushed in the moment that she let her kiss with Eijiro slip. She could feel a shiver run down her spine at the evil glares she received from her friends.
"He kissed you…AND YOU DIDN'T TELL US?!" This time both Akira and Rinako was on her case, shaking her violently. Mizuki had her hands up in surrender as she tried to calm them down form their rampage.
"C-Calm down. H-He didn't kiss me." They stopped with their actions. "I-I um…I was the one who kissed him, the first time, anyway…" She trailed off, averting her eyes away from the disbelieving faces.
"You kissed him?!"
"You kissed more than once and you're not dating?! You sly little fox!" Akira laughed and slapped Mizuki's shoulder. "You're truly your mother's daughter!" She added while Rinako was trying to process everything.
"Amazing. You really are amazing, Mizuki-chan! I want to be the maid of honour! And I want to wear one of those cute short dresses with frills and flowers!" Rinako dreamed and had the duo pale briefly. Akira scolded the female, but Rinako was lost in her world of fantasy.
Mizuki chuckled, her eyes catching sight of something that stuck out of Rinako's pocket. The blonde caught the red-eyes girl's gaze and pulled out her phone. Hanging from her phone was a small keychain.
"What's that?" Mizuki asked as she pointed towards the keychain. She hadn't known that Rinako had a keychain before, the new addition perking her attention. Even with their Karaoke session she didn't see it.
"Oh, this? This is my new goal!" Rinako pointed at the planet keychain, causing Mizuki to give her a blank look. Her new goal? She wanted to make keychains? She was completely baffled by the girl's statement. Akira sighed and let her shoulders slump, shaking her head.
"Don't be so judgemental, Akira-chan! Today's festival only made me want to achieve it even more!" Rinako said, looking towards the sky and making a fist. "I finally found my passion… I want to become an astrologist!" She declared and Mizuki nearly fell over.
"W-What? When did this happen? I thought you said that you didn't know what you wanted to do after school so you decided to become a model?" Mizuki pointed out, her eyes wide with disbelief as she stared at her friend.
"She did, until we had our trip towards the observatory. Since then, she's been drowning herself in everything stars and planets," Akira explained and pulled a face. "I just don't know why on earth she bought a broken keychain. There were a lot of others with U.A. on top of the planet."
"I wanted this one! It was the most unique one out of all of them and this isn't just any planet! It's Saturn. Saturn highlights our need for limitations and self-control. It creates dedication to responsibility and discipline, everything we need to succeed in goals we make. The planetary ruler-" Rinako was cut off by Akira that cried out, holding her ears.
"Make it stop!" She dramatically shouted and fell onto her back. "You see what I have to deal with? She's been an astronomy encyclopaedia for the past two weeks!" Mizuki gave the dark-haired female a look of sympathy. Her poor Quirk to memorize everything she came in contact with overwhelmed.
"You're just jealous because I'm the smart one now." Akira gave Rinako a dry look. "I knew the moment that I stepped inside that observatory that I wanted to know more of the world out there. I wanted to research the beautiful limitless canvas with mysteries that await to be discovered…" Rinako said, eyes shining brightly.
Mizuki was taken aback by the girl's show of compassion. Rinako always floated around, not sure where she wanted to be. She merely went with the flow. To see her this ecstatic and determined made Mizuki smile warmly.
Akira's phone went off, the dark-haired female glancing at the notifications that popped up on her screen. She frowned, her brows knitting together as she read through all of the articles that appeared.
"Something wrong?"
"There's been another missing person's complaint in the Tokyo district," Akira said as her eyes scanned the screen. "My Uncle said that he'll let my Dad pick us up after the festival. He needs to work late again tonight."
"That's right. Your Uncle is an investigator at one of the Tokyo Police stations. Did they find the other people yet?" Rinako asked, Mizuki thrown in a whirl on confusion. Akira shook her head and locked her phone.
"Nope. No trace, nothing." Akira noticed Mizuki's confusion. "There's been an increasing in missing persons the past couple of weeks. Nothing serious and mostly criminals that are off the streets though Uncle's been overprotective since it's near our school."
"That's concerning. They haven't caught who was behind this yet?" Mizuki asked and Akira shook her head, causing her to frown. "I know that everyone's been telling you this but please be careful," she said and they gave her impressions or irony.
"We're not the ones you should worry about. You guys were attacked by Villains during school. Don't even start with telling us to be safe. You need to keep yourself safe, Ms. I'll-beat-up-any-villain," Akira deadpanned and Mizuki laughed sheepishly.
"And now, all of the events have been completed!" Present Mic's voice came over the microphone and boomed loudly. It attracted the trio's attention, the girls standing up, Mizuki stretching her stiff muscles.
"Guess it's time to head back for the award ceremony, huh?" Mizuki asked, as she glanced at the stadium. She was sure that a few people were searching for her and exhaled. She wondered to won in the end. Her hopes being her brother.
"Yeah…This was fun! I miss hanging out like this… I love you guys!" Rinako exclaimed and bounced, each one of her arms slinging around their shoulders. Mizuki laughed, Akira briefly glaring, but her smile on her face giving away her own happiness.
"Love you too."
The Award Ceremony…
Mizuki was surprised to find that she and Izuku shared third place, his match against one that caused his arms to be bandaged up along with one of his legs. Luckily, he didn't wear a slung but it was still concerning. In second place, was Shoto who had lost to the raging monster who was her brother.
"Mi-chan! You made it!" Izuku called with a bright smile as he waved her over. They were to meet beneath the field to stand on their pedestals. Mizuki smiled at the green haired boy's excitement and chuckled.
"Of course, though I'm surprised they did a joined third… Which reminds me…" Mizuki hit him hard on his head, the male yelping in pain. He dared to glance up at her, the female breathing steam as her anger flared.
"You broke your bones again, didn't you?! I told your mother I'll make sure that she wouldn't have to worry about you and now you do this! Idiot!" Mizuki scolded him, pulling his cheeks as he winced in pain.
"Mizuki…" She snapped around, eyes still blazing with anger until she saw Shoto standing there. Mizuki's brows twitched as she continued to pull her best friend's cheeks, his painful cries falling on deaf ears.
"I'm glad to see you're okay." He stated with an impassive expression. Mizuki caught sight of his eyes, her fingers leaving the green haired male's cheeks. His eyes were…smiling. Only a little, but it was enough for her to see it.
Mizuki chuckled and nodded. "Same to you, Ice Boy," Mizuki said and made his eyes briefly widened. She called him by the other nickname again. He had a feeling that she was talking about the look in his eyes and vaguely nodded.
"Thanks to Midoriya."
Mizuki glanced back at her childhood friend as he rubbed his cheeks, his one eye closed from the pain. She caught the way Shoto's eyes smiled and couldn't help herself snickering. She ruffled Izuku's head, the male giving her a cautious gaze.
"You just keep on being cool, huh?" She said and he blushed slightly at her words. She was proud of him. She could tell that he gave his all with the fight but it seemed as if he didn't injure himself passed his capacity.
There were a bunch of muffled cries and yells and Mizuki paled, sweat dropping at her brother who was pinned against a cement wall on the number one spot. He snarled towards Shoto, his eyes showing his anger and frustration.
She facepalmed and let her shoulders slump in defeat. She was going to have to deal with whatever this was and honestly didn't have the energy to do so. She was going to hear everything later on and feared that he was going to pop a vein.
"All of the first-year events for this year's U.A. sports festival has been completed. And now, we will begin the award ceremony!" Midnight's voice reached their ears and they all went to stand on the podium.
The sound of fireworks and cheering from the crowd reached their ears. Everyone was ecstatic and excited to see the final results. The cameras clicking from the press was prominent in the mix of the shouting.
They all emerged from a smokescreen, her class paling and gasping at her aggressive brother on the number one pedestal. His anger rippled in waves in her heart. She almost wished she watched the match. Almost.
She felt Izuku's trembling next to her, the male filled with nervousness and panic as he stood on front of everyone. She put a hand on his shoulder, the male immediately ceasing his actions, green eyes making contact with crimson orbs. She only gave him a reassuring smile and he felt himself calm down.
"Now, we will award the medals! The presentation of the medals will, of course, be by this man." All Might's laughter reached everyone's ears. "Our very own hero, All Might!" Midnight said while the number one hero shouted over her own words, making everyone sweat drop as he landed in front of them.
"Well then, All Might, please present the medals, starting with third place," Midnight said and Mizuki briefly thought Izuku was going to faint. After all, he was receiving a metal from his all-time favourite and number one hero.
"Young Mizuki, congratulations. You too, Young Midoriya, congratulations. You both showed a lot of potential out there," he said with his big and bright smile as he put the medals around their necks. Izuku was lost for words and it made Mizuki chuckle.
"Thank you, All Might-" Mizuki froze up when both she and Izuku were pulled into an embrace by the male. She swallowed thickly, unsure of what exactly was happening and not knowing how to react.
"You both always have a way of fighting and helping others, but you need to remember that we all have limitations. It's those limitations that help us move further and become stronger to overcome them," All Might said, Mizuki's eyes widening as he broke the embrace.
"Young Todoroki, congratulations," All Might spoke up and put the medal around his neck. "I assume there's a reason you didn't use your left side in the final?" Shoto stared at the ground, not looking up at the male.
"I had an opportunity during my match with Midoriya, but then I came unsure of myself. I think I understand a little of why you're interested in him. I wanted to become a hero like you but I didn't think it would be right for me to be the only one to break away. There's still something I must settle," Shoto said and Mizuki smiled faintly.
"The look on your face is completely different from before." He embraced the young male. "I won't ask about the details. I'm sure that you will be able to do what you need to do," All Might said and went to the last person.
"Now the, Young Bakugou! This is too much." Mizuki brought a hand up to her face and shook her head. "Good job doing what you said you would during the player pledge!" All Might said, rubbing salt in the wound as he took off the mouth guard.
"All Might… First place like this…isn't worth anything! Even if the world recognizes it if I don't recognize it myself, then it's trash!" Katsuki snarled and Mizuki wanted to bury herself deep underneath the ground.
"Right. In this world where people are constantly being compared publicly, there aren't may who can keep aiming for the top of an unchanging scale," All Might said, Katsuki's fuming face not changing.
"Please don't make it worse…" Mizuki murmured, Izuku letting out a nervous laugh next to his friend. In the end, she would have to deal with an angry Katsuki at home and for that he couldn't give her more of his sympathy.
"Take this medal, okay? Think of it as a 'wound', so you never forget!" All Might said, Katsuki protesting. "Now, now…" He tried to put it over Katsuki's head but ended up putting it in his mouth instead.
"Well, they were the winners this time! However, listen here! Anyone here could've ended up on these podiums. It's just as you saw. Competing! Improving each other! And climbing even further! The next generation of heroes is definitely sprouting!" All Might stated.
"So, I have just one more thing to say!" All Might's hand shot up in the air and Mizuki groaned. No. they were going to do the cheerleading thing again. She didn't have time for this. "Everyone, please say it with me! Ready go!"
"Thanks for your hard work!"
"Plus Ultra!"
Mizuki burst out laughing at the male as the crowd started to scold him for not saying what they were expecting. She looked at Izuku who was in deep thought, his eyes staring into the nothingness as he delved.
Mizuki put an arm around him and pulled him into a half hug. "You need to smile at the cameras, Izu-kun. S.M.I.L.E. Smile! That's what people do when they're happy about their positions!" She told him, Izuku blushing slightly.
"We're on the pedestal together so smile!" She added, pointing at the phone that Ochaco had in her hand, making Izuku blink in surprise. When did that happen? He felt the warmth of Mizuki's presence and found himself smiling softly as Ochaco took the photo, not noticing the bunny ears Mizuki gave him.
"Mizuki-chan!" Tetsutetsu called as he ran towards her, arms swinging in the air. Mizuki glanced at the grey-haired male and resisted a frown. She was painfully reminded of his apparent crush on her and the way he riled up Eijiro.
"Congratulations on getting third place! You were incredible! Especially that last attack! You blew through the stage like it was nothing!" He exclaimed, his hands all over the place and Mizuki merely staring at his loads of energy.
"Thanks, Steel Bastard."
"Mizuki!" Mizuki could see the tenseness in the atmosphere after Eijiro's voice calling. She glanced back at the male as he walked over towards them. "Congratulations on getting third place!" He said with a wide smile and then made eye contact with Tetsutetsu.
"I'm not going to lose next time!"
"Me neither! I'll beat you again!"
Mizuki blankly observed the peculiar friendship that formed between the two men as they locked arms. They both wore big grins plastered on their faces, eyes challenging one another. It was quite a sight.
"A fated battle between men…" Ochaco spoke up behind Mizuki the ash blonde sweat dropping at her words. She had her eyes fixed on the two boys, her kips tightly pressed against each other, causing Mizuki to chuckle.
"Fated battle, huh?" She mused, indigo hair walking away in the background. She briefly felt his gaze on her and caught a small smile on his lips. He turned and walked away, not sparing any form of commentary but Mizuki already knew.
I'll get stronger, enough to beat you.
Later on…
After the day's exciting activities, all the students returned to homeroom for the last announcements. The sun had already started to set, painting the sky in beautiful colours of orange, blue and yellow.
Mizuki sat in her chair, her brother's fumes reaching her as he sat with the medal still hanging from his mouth. Everyone avoided him as far as possible, not daring to come in the male's way, all except Mizuki who brushed passed his demeanour.
Eijiro managed to get in a time to give her a congratulations and showed his concern with her absence between matches. She was quick to ease his distress by telling him about her two crazy friends, relaxing as his face was filled with relief. He was too caring for words.
"Good work," Aizawa spoke as he stood in front of the class, a bell ringing in Mizuki's head. She recalled Recovery Girl's words and blinked. She forgot to give him her gratitude, though, she was still unsure of why she should do so.
She was in such a rush to see her friends that she didn't give her older female time to explain. Maybe he would be kind enough to shed a little bit of light on the subject. Hopefully, she didn't bring shame on herself again.
"So, there will be no school tomorrow or the day after. I'm sure the pro heroes who watched the sports festival will want to recruit you, but we'll consolidate everything and announce it when you get back. Rest well and look forward to that," he concluded.
"Yes, sir!"
Mizuki stood up as their homeroom teacher pocketed his hands and walked towards the exit or the room. His worn-out appearance was more prominent because of the day's events, the nap he took in between breaks not enough.
"Aizawa SenseI!" Mizuki called as he stepped outside of the classroom. He lazily glanced at the ash blonde that ran up to him. She already had her backpack slung around her shoulders, her crimson eyes blazing.
"Mizuki. I see that your injuries are taken care of. Good work at today's matches," he said and Mizuki felt her heart warm up. She never thought she would receive a praise from him. "I see that you're still fighting as reckless as always." She felt a stab in her chest and sighed.
There had to be catch.
"Y-yeah, I'll work on that… Anyway, I want to say thank you." Aizawa turned towards her, confusion brimming in his tired eyes. "I'm not entirely sure why but Recovery Girl said that I owe you my gratitude," she said and Aizawa mentally cursed at the older woman.
"Did you do something for me that I don't know of…?" Mizuki asked and his eye twitched in agitation. He was in a difficult situation and it was all thanks to the elder woman. She was forcing him in an uncomfortable position to push him to tell Mizuki.
"No, I don't know why she told you to say 'thank you'," he curtly stated and watched as Mizuki frowned. She nodded slowly and he turned to leave. "Make sure to rest up enough." She watched as he walked away and smirked.
"Yes, sir!"
That old lady… She's not going to make things easy on me, is she? Aizawa thought and let out a sigh. It was his decision to keep it a secret because it could prove to be troublesome in the future. However, with the way the Quirk was going out of control was proving to be dangerous for Mizuki.
It would only be a matter of time until it didn't only become a problem for her but those around her as well. Yet, he couldn't just go in and tell her his speculations. He wanted hard facts and until he was sure of everything, he was going to keep it a secret from her.
"Ah, Mizuki, what was that about? Did you have something to discuss with Aizawa Sensei?" Eijiro asked as he came in behind her. He caught her staring at the dark-haired male, her eyes searching for something.
"It was nothing. I guess I misunderstood something," Mizuki answered, bothered by the unsureness she was experiencing. She glanced back at the male, his big eyes and innocent expression making the unease fade away.
"If you say so," Eijiro said and smiled softly. "I wonder what type of scouters we're going to get. You'll probably get someone high up in the rankings! Since your fight with Bakugou was intense! You're really amazing!" Mizuki chuckled and crossed her arms over her chest.
"Don't try and sweet talk me, Red. It's not going to work," Mizuki said and watched as his body froze up. She smirked, amused at his blush. She had an idea that it was an earnest compliment, yet enjoyed teasing him.
"I-It's not like that! Y-You were really amazing out there!"
"Yeah! And you even looked amazing!" Kaminari chimed in with a light blush on his cheeks, Mineta's perverted gaze joining the fray. Eijiro gave them a disapproving look, soon paling when Mizuki cracked her knuckles.
"I broke a nose and punched out a tooth today. Do you really want to press my buttons, boys? Was the mascot not enough of a lesson for you too?" Mizuki asked in a low and threatening tone that made them quiver in fear, their faces blue.
Mizuki let out a breath when they retreated away from her, afraid of what she might do to them. It was their own damn fault. She caught sight of Eijiro's frown, acknowledging the fact that he didn't approve of their comments.
"Red." Mizuki turned towards him, the male's attention returning towards her. Mizuki's gaze was intense, her face serious. Everyone stopped what they were doing, swallowing thickly at what was happening.
"Let's do it." Mizuki's three words were enough for everyone to misunderstand the situations. Mineta and Kaminari fell over with nosebleeds, the girls covering up their faces in embarrassment and EIjiro exclaimed.
"W-What are you-"
"Let's go on a date." His eyes widened. "We're off tomorrow, right? I'll meet you at the station at ten o'clock," Mizuki told him, pointing at him with her index finger. There was a brief silence that hung over the air.
"EH?!"
"I look forward to what you're going to plan for the day," Mizuki told the starstruck male in front of her who was only giving her wide eyes, not saying anything. "See you tomorrow, Red." She waved and walked off without another word.
"T-T-That was so bold! Mizuki-san actually asked Kirishima-kun on a date!" Ochaco exclaimed, trying to cover up her face from the flush. Izuku was dumbstruck and stuck on his spot. Once again being blown away by her actions.
"Dude! You got a date!" Kaminari and Sero cheered as they shook Eijiro. The redhead could only stare at the ash-blonde girl as she walked on. His brain was very slowly realizing what was happening.
"What are you going to do, huh? Maybe take her out to the movies or even shopping?" Sero asked and hummed as he tapped him chin. "Nah, Mizuki doesn't seem like the type to like that kind of stuff…" he trailed off and heard a scoff.
"He's going to take her on a romantic walk," Mina spoke up with a big grin. "Or even a spa session! I'm sure Mizuki would love a good treat, especially after today's match!" The boys flushed as their imagination ran away with them.
"Mizuki in a-" Mineta was hit with Tsuyu's tongue before his thoughts could continue. The boys and the girls argued forward and backward, Eijiro's starstruck expression fading away into an initial small smile and then a grin.
Mizuki really is something.
"You can ask Midoriya what she-""It's okay, guys. I appreciate the effort but I'll figure this one out," Eijiro said to calm down everyone around him. She went as far to ask him on a date. It was time he showed her that he too could be a gentleman.
"Mmm, you could always ask Bakugou…" They all received a killer glare from the male as he pushed passed them to exit. He still had a deadly aura that seeped out from him, the medal hanging from his mouth.
He gave Eijiro one glance, the redhead feeling the threat, before he stomped on. Eijiro expected at least a yelling session where he would be called different kind of names. The fact that he only received a glare made him grin.
He couldn't wait for the next day.
