I slept until noon the next day. It was fantastic! And I didn't have to worry about anyone else finding out. I never understood the point of getting up early nowadays? Like there's nothing to do. Might as well sleep.

The thing is…I actually didn't fall asleep until about four or five in the morning. When it got light out. I was too scared. It probably sounds silly, but as I said, it was only the first night. I opened my bedroom window to let some air in before going downstairs.

I grabbed a box of cereal and sat down on the couch. I only ate the first handful when there was a noise upstairs. My eyes widened and I felt a little scared. Time to be a big girl. I told myself. I grabbed my gun and headed up the stairs looking around in every room brandishing my gun.

I didn't find anything though. Nothing was up there. Nothing was out of place. Nothing was on the floor. I thought it was really weird, but decided to just shrug it off.

I headed back downstairs and sat my gun on the end table in the living room. Just then, I saw something out of the corner of my eye in another room. I quickly spun around and looked but there wasn't anything there. I clearly saw and even felt a presence though. Completely freaked out, I decided to go next door and pay my dad and the others a visit.

I walked inside, everyone was at the table eating lunch. I walked right in, they all looked at me. I decided to say something random and funny like I did yesterday. "Did you know that…your lip skin is the same kind of skin that your anus is made out of?" I grinned.

My dad kind of smiled and raised his eyebrows. "No, I didn't know that but once again, thanks for telling us while we're eating."

"Yeah, so…next time you kiss someone on the lips…"

"Okay." My dad stopped me. "That's enough." My brother and I laughed.

I ate with them and didn't want to go home yet because of what happened so I stayed there for most of the day. It was going into the evening now and I knew eventually I would have to go back over there, but I was freaked out and didn't want to.

"You guys wanna watch a movie or something?" I asked them.

"We can't." Carl said. "The DVD player doesn't work anymore."

"Oh yeah, I forgot about that." I needed to think of something else we could do to stall going over to my new house. "Well…what about cards?" I asked. "You wanted to play cards yesterday."

"I don't feel like it right now." My brother said laying down on the couch.

"Oh." I looked down and thought some more. I had another idea. "Hey, why don't we have a campfire tonight and we can roast some marshmallows?" I grinned. My dad and Daryl were kind of staring at me. "What?"

"Nothing." My dad said. "I was just wondering why you're not over at your new house."

"Yeah, I was thankin' the same thang." Daryl chimed in. "You was all gung ho about movin' out and bein' on yer own so why you over here and not there?"

I looked back and forth at them, Michonne was looking at me too. I knew I had to give them a good answer. "Well," I swallowed, "I didn't…want you guys to think I was trying to get away from you so I thought I would spend some time with you today." I nodded.

"Is that so?" My dad was the one to say.

"Yup." I smirked and crossed my arms. I had another thought. "Maybe you don't want me over here. Maybe you guys like it with me gone."

"No." They all said at different times.

"Abby, that's not true." Said my dad. "We were just teasing you."

"Yeah, you can stay here." Michonne said.

I thought for a minute and looked out the window at my house. Maybe that shadow I saw was just my imagination. Maybe I didn't really see it and I'm just being silly. "I know." I looked back. "But," I stood up, "you guys are right. I'm gonna head back over."

"Abby, we was just jokin'." Daryl said. "You don't gotta leave."

"I know, I know. It's fine." I nodded. "But I'm gonna go anyway."

"…alright." My dad shrugged. "Are you comin' back over later?"

"I don't know. Maybe." I nodded again. I left after that.

I walked across the street to my house. I was nervous to go inside for some reason, but when I did, I felt really stupid. I didn't get that creeped out feeling that I had earlier at all. I smiled. "This is cool. I got my own space."

I walked up to my room because I wanted to change my clothes, and a gust of wind hit me as soon as I turned the corner. I saw why when I looked up. I forgot that I left my window open. I was about to go close it, when I heard a noise and looked down. My eyes widened. There was a snake!

"Oh my God." I said and took a step back. Then, it put its head up. "Oh shit." I moved again. It started towards me. "Oh my God! Oh my God!" I ran and shut the door behind me trapping it inside the room.

I panicked and looked around. What do I do? What do I do? I thought. Daryl! I quickly ran downstairs and picked up my walkie. "Dad?" I said into it.

"What's wrong?" He answered almost immediately.

I stopped and looked at the walkie weird. "Why do you always assume that something's wrong? Can't I just call you?"

"Sorry, baby." He said. I could tell that he just sighed before saying that. "What is it?"

"…something's wrong." I stated then laughed. "Can I talk to Daryl?" I was still smiling.

"What's 'a matter?" Daryl was on now.

"Hey, Daryl. There's a snake in my room."

"A snake?" He questioned.

"Yeah, it almost attacked me. Can you come over and kill it?"

I heard them laughing on the other end. "He's coming." My dad said.

"Okay." I said then sat down the walkie. I looked out the window and saw Daryl running across the street with his crossbow up and the image made me laugh. I opened the door and he came right inside.

"Where's this snake that's terrorizin' my baby girl?" He had his crossbow up.

"In my room." I pointed at the ceiling. He started up and I followed him. "I trapped it inside."

"Good. I'mma need ya to open the door while I stand back so I can kill it."

My eyes widened. "I don't wanna go near that thing."

"Just trust me." We were outside my bedroom door. "Ready?"

"Not really but I guess we're doin' this so…" I trailed off. He gave me the signal and I opened the door as fast as I could and hid behind it. Daryl had his crossbow up and ready. The snake was over by the bed and slithered over when it noticed us. It put its head up like it did earlier and Daryl shoot an arrow right through it, it got stuck in the side of my mattress. My eyes widened and my jaw dropped.

"Sorry." He said to me.

"Oh my God, I can't believe you just did that." I said. "That was…crazy." I smiled. "Thanks."

He gave me a nod. "Anythang for my baby girl." He grabbed my chin and squeezed, then went to take care of the snake.

I concluded that the noise I heard earlier must have been that snake, and I just didn't see it. That still doesn't explain the shadow, but like I said, that could have been my imagination.

Nothing happened the rest of that day or even through the night. A few days went by and everything was fine. I was really starting to like having my own house. Until one night…

I was sleeping up in my room when a loud crash jolted me awake. My heart was beating like crazy. The first thing I thought was, someone broke in. I quietly grabbed my gun and my lantern light, which was still on because there was no way I was sleeping in the dark in a house by myself, and I headed down the stairs where I heard the crash.

I saw what it was almost immediately. There was a decoration laying on the floor broken, it was hanging on the wall. It probably just gave and fell. I still checked around the house to make sure first, just to be safe. I didn't find anything else unusual. The door was still locked and none of the windows were broken so, there was no sign that a person was in here. Feeling tired, I shrugged and went back to bed.

The next morning, I had completely forgotten about what happened until I got up and saw the mess on the floor. I cleaned it up quickly. Now that it was light out and I could see better, I realized something really strange. The nail that the decoration was on was still in the wall. AND it was tight. The decoration was only up by a hook on the back and it wasn't broken or anything either. How is that possible? It's almost as if someone knocked it off the wall. I got a creeped out feeling again while thinking about it.

A knock at the door pulled me from my thoughts and made me jump. Looking out the peep hole, I saw that it was Daryl. I was a little surprised and opened the door.

"Hey." He said first. "I came to have breakfast with you." He held up a can of corn beef hash.

"Okay." I was even more surprised but stepped aside to let him in. "I was just going to have cereal." I said once the door was closed.

"Nah. This is better." He walked into the kitchen, I followed. I watched him open the can and put it into a pan and start heating it on the stove. I narrowed my eyes at him. Something's fishy here. He turned to me while our food was heating up. "So, ya have a good night?"

"Did my dad put you up to this?" I asked him ignoring his question.

He seemed to hesitate. I looked at him more closely. "No." He cleared his throat. "But why'd ya move over here in the first place?"

I was about to answer him but the hash popped in the pan so I jolted away from it. "Whoa." I said.

Daryl gave me a look. "Jeez, it ain't gonna kill ya."

Feeling a little stupid, I looked down. "Sorry. I'm so afraid of getting burned. I hate burns more than anything. I'd rather get stabbed."

"Oh." Daryl said. He walked passed me over to the stove and stirred the hash. "So…ya never answered my question."

I cocked an eyebrow. "Which was?"

"I don't know. I just wanted some time on my own." I said as we were eating breakfast. "It's nothing personal." I shrugged.

Daryl snorted. "Alright."

I gave him a look. "What? It's the truth."

"Whatever you say." He put a spoonful of corn beef in his mouth. "That'd be like if I moved out and said, "I just wanted some time on my own." He raised his eyebrows.

I bit my lip while thinking. "Well…what about Glenn and Maggie? What they did was worse."

He sighed. "It's a little different. They got each other. Yer alone over here."

"Yeah, and I'm only across the street. Who knows where in the hell those two are."

"Alright." Daryl stopped me. "Never mind. Ferget I said anythang."

It was quiet for a minute. "Speaking of Glenn and Maggie…you never answered why you think we'll never see them again."

He looked at me again before answering. "'member that family that was part of our group? Back at that first camp in Atlanta?"

"The Mexican family?"

He nodded. "They left. Did we ever see 'em again?"

I put my head down. "No."

Daryl cleared his throat. "When people disappear, they're gone forever. You should know that by now." He looked at me. I stared at him for a minute, then sadly looked down.

We finished eating and he was about to go back over with the others. I suddenly remembered about what happened and didn't want to be alone over here. "You don't have to go ya know? You could stay over here with me for a while." I gave him a smile.

He looked down at me and smirked. "Yeah…or you could come over here with everyone else."

I thought about it. "Yeah, I could. Actually…I was thinking about moving back in with you guys."

He stopped and gave me a surprised look. "Huh?"

"But it was just a thought."

There was a brief pause. "Why?" Daryl asked me. "I thought ya wanted to be on yer own?" He imitated me.

"I do. But that was before…" I trailed off. "Never mind."

"…okay." He put down his crossbow. "What's goin' on? You was so excited about movin' out. Why all of a sudden are ya thankin' about movin' back in?" He put a hand on my shoulder. I nervously tapped my fingers together while I thought. I was reluctant to tell him. "Do ya miss yer dad? Is that it?" He pushed my hair back.

"No." I said softly. "It's not that."

"Then what is it?"

I looked at him before answering. "You're gonna laugh at me."

"…are ya scared?"

"…yeah, but…you don't understand why." I said. He gave me a strange look. "Will you promise not to laugh at me?"

He nodded. "I won't laugh."

I looked towards the stairs for some reason before speaking. "I think this house is…haunted."

There was a brief pause while we just stared at each other. Then…Daryl busted out laughing. "You promised you wouldn't laugh." I got offended.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry." He still had a hint of amusement on his face. "Why do ya thank the house is haunted?" He laughed again when he said haunted.

I didn't want to tell him now because he would just laugh again. "Just forget it." I shook my head. "You can go back over to the other house now." I sat down.

"Abby, c'mon. I was just messin' with ya." He turned to me. "Tell me what happened."

I shook my head. "I don't want to now." I was just sadly looking down.

There was a brief pause. Daryl sighed. "Okay. I'm sorry for laughin'." He sat down on the couch facing me. "Seriously, tell me what happened. I promise I won't laugh this time."

I was still looking down while I thought. Then, I looked over at the garbage bag that I had the decoration in that fell. I walked over there and grabbed it, then walked back over to him to show him. "This fell off the wall in the middle of the night." I stated.

"Okay?"

"But the nail is still in the wall." I pointed. "And the hook on the back isn't even broken." I showed him. "How's that even possible? It had to have been knocked down." I looked up at him. "You don't find that creepy at all?"

He looked like he was thinking, then cleared his throat. "Okay, sure, it's a little creepy. But…it ain't enough to make me thank the house is haunted."

"That's not it though. There's always noises." I looked at him wide-eyed. "And my first night here, I could've sworn I saw a shadow out of the corner of my eye in that room." I pointed at the dining room.

"…well, you know you don't have to stay over here." He looked at me. "You can come back home."

I stared at him because the way he said that made me think that he still doesn't believe me. I crossed my arms over my chest. "You don't believe me, do you?"

"It ain't that I don't believe ya. It's just that…sometimes yer mind can play tricks on ya," he nodded, "and— He stopped talking when we heard a creaking sound. He gave me a look before looking around the corner into the kitchen. I followed him. The basement door was open. I know I had that closed.

My eyes widened and I pointed at the door while looking at Daryl. "See!"

He smirked. "Okay, I will admit, that was weird but that still don't mean the house is haunted."

I gave him an annoyed look. Then, I perked up because I had a thought. "Okay, Superman." I smirked. "If you're so sure about this, then how about you stay the night here by yourself?" I nodded.

"Abby." He gave me a look.

"What? Are you scared?" I teased him.

"I ain't scared 'a nothin'." He said roughly.

"Prove it. Stay one night over here." I crossed my arms.

He looked like he was thinking. "Alright, fine. If you want me to, I'll do it."

"Good." I smirked. "I guarantee that tomorrow, you believe me." I nodded.

"We'll see about that." He raised his eyebrows at me, then guided me along.

"Yeah, we will see."

I was setting up my bed on the couch, I wanted to sleep down here so that I could see my house across the street. "The walkie's over there." I told Daryl. "So we can talk back and forth to each other and you can tell me if anything happens." I smiled. I was a little excited for this for some reason.

"Yeah, okay." He said. "Nothin's gonna happen though." He smirked.

"I wouldn't be so sure, Daryl Dixon." I crossed my arms over my chest and smirked myself.

My dad walked into the room and listened to us talking. "What's goin' on?" He said. "Abby? You're staying over here tonight?"

"Yeah. And Daryl's gonna sleep across the street so he can see the ghost in my house." I smiled.

My dad gave Daryl a questioning look. Daryl shook his head. "She thanks her house is haunted, so I'm just gonna show 'er it ain't."

"Oh, I see." My dad said. "Well, good luck with that."

"Yeah, Daryl. You think this is all a big joke. Well, wait until you wake up with a ghost floating over you."

He let out a laugh. "Alright." He ruffled my hair. "I'll see ya tomorra, kid." He started walking away.

"Make sure you have the walkie close." I called after him.

"Yeah, I know." He said from the stairs. "Got it."

I smiled at his confidence. However, it quickly faded because I know there's something over there. I hope nothing bad happens to Daryl.

I laid on the couch with my arms behind my head wondering why Daryl hasn't called yet. Sitting up, I looked out the window and over to my house. Maybe he fell asleep. I don't want to wake him up if he did, but I really wanted to know what was going on.

I made my decision and picked up the walkie. "Daryl?" I said into it. "Daryl, are you up?"

"Yeah." He said.

"Oh. I was worried that you fell asleep." I paused. "Or that something happened."

"Yeah, the ghost got me."

I smirked. "It's not funny. You won't be laughing soon."

"Well, so far there ain't nothin' happenin'."

Feeling a little disappointed, I looked down. "…are you sure? You're not just saying that?"

"Would I lie to you?"

"I don't know. Maybe." I shrugged. "Maybe you just don't wanna scare me."

"Nothin' happened. I swear."

My mouth pressed into a thin line. I didn't want him thinking I was being stupid or just a scared kid. I hope he experiences something as least. "Okay. Well, if something does, will you promise to tell me?"

"I promise." He said. "…now I want ya to get to sleep. You ain't gonna be up all night talkin' about somethin' that may not even happen."

"But I have to hear your updates. If anything happens." I complained.

"Nah. I'll tell ya in the mornin' if anythang happens. I want ya to lay down and go to sleep. Ya hear me?"

"…okay." I didn't keep the disappointment out of my voice. "Night, Daryl."

"Night, baby girl." He said. I got a funny idea, just then, and made a kiss sound into the walkie. "Yeah, I ain't doin' that." He said.

I laughed pretty hard into the walkie because I knew he wouldn't do it. "Alright, see ya tomorrow." I sat the walkie down, then laid back down and tried to go to sleep. I wonder if Daryl will have anything to tell me in the morning?

I woke up around my usual time and stretched. Absentmindedly looking out the window, my thoughts immediately went to Daryl when I looked at my house. He's usually up before anyone else. I wonder if he's over here already? I wonder if anything happened? I got up and looked around, but I didn't see him. I briefly looked out the back door and into the backyard, but I still didn't see him or hear anything. He must still be over there then.

I shrugged and went back inside to start my normal morning routine. By the time I'm done with that, he should be over here.

However, he wasn't. My dad and Michonne were in the dining room getting ready to eat something for breakfast. "Mornin'." My dad said when he saw me.

"Where's Daryl?" I asked.

"…I imagine he's still over at your house." He answered.

"I'm anxious to know if anything happened."

"Well, you'll have to wait until he comes over."

I thought for a moment. "Maybe I should call him."

"No." My dad said immediately. "Abigail, he might still be asleep. Leave 'im be. Have some breakfast."

I sighed but sat down at the table anyway. I got a disappointed feeling out of nowhere, then I had a thought that he's probably not going to say anything happened anyway. I should just drop it. Maybe my house isn't haunted after all, and I am just being stupid. It was disappointing to think like that but also it gave me some relief. Things would be easier if it wasn't haunted.

As I was eating, Daryl finally came over. I looked at him as soon as he walked in, but he seemed normal so I assumed nothing happened and I looked away. I gave up on it anyway.

"Hey." My dad said to him. "Everything alright?"

"Yeah." Daryl said with a shrug and walked over.

"I was thinking about going on a run. Maybe you'd like to go?" Said my dad.

"Sure." Daryl answered. He sat down and started eating with us. My dad walked away and went upstairs, I think.

"Did you sleep good?" Michonne said to Daryl. "I never saw ya sleep that long." She teased him. She finished her breakfast and took her plate over to the sink.

"Yeah, yeah." Daryl said while chewing. "That's cuz I was up most 'a the night." The way he said that made me look up at him, he looked at me right after. "Maybe yer right, maybe that house is haunted." He smirked.

I dropped everything and my eyes widened. What? He experienced something? "What happened?"

"I'on know if I wanna tell ya." He smirked and shook his head. "You might be scared to go back over there."

"No, tell me!"

He hesitated like he was thinking, then shook his head. "I shouldn't 'a said anythang."

"Daryl!" I yelled. I was getting angry. "Tell me what happened!"

"You sure you wanna know?"

"Yes!" I was practically bouncing up and down in my seat.

He looked down at my plate. "Finish eatin' first, then I'll tell ya." He got up and walked outside.

I shoved the last two bites of my pop tart in my mouth, then threw back the rest of my water. "I'm done." I said and got up. I followed after Daryl. He just lit a cigarette and was leaning over the railing. He looked over when he saw me. "What happened?"

He let out a laugh. "Fer someone so eager to know, ya weren't very excited when I walked in. I thought you was gonna be bombardin' me with questions as soon as I got up."

"Well, I was starting to think that you were gonna say that nothing happened. But…if something did, you NEED to tell me. Seriously, Daryl! Tell me already!"

"Alright, alright." He said. He took a puff of his cigarette and blew out some smoke before explaining what happened. "So…I slept on the couch and…I'm layin' 'nere and…I thought I heard footsteps." He paused. My eyes widened. I couldn't wait to hear the rest. "I sat up and was lookin' around and realized that it was comin' from the cellar. It sounded like someone was walkin' up the damn stairs. So, I grabbed my crossbow ready cuz I'm thankin' there's some fucker in the house." He blew smoke out. I laughed at his choice of words. "I even heard the door creak open. So, I jumped out…and there was no one there." He looked at me. My eyes were huge and my jaw was hanging open. "I even went down there and looked around to be safe and there was no sign that there was anyone ever there."

My mouth was still open, I was frozen. I couldn't speak, I couldn't find the right words. "OH MY GOD!" I finally yelled. "ARE YOU SERIOUS?"

"Shh." He put a finger to his lips. "Keep it down."

"Sorry." I cleared my throat. "Are you serious though? Like this actually happened? You're not pulling my leg or anything?"

"Nah. Why would I do that? That would just scare ya." He blew out some smoke. "I ain't lyin', I wouldn't lie."

I paused again for a minute. Then, it finally hit me. "Oh my God!" I put my hands on my head. "Oh my God!" I spun around. "Do you know what this means?" I looked at him. "It means that house is actually haunted!" I pointed towards the house. I was very excited.

"You ain't scared?"

"No, I'm not scared! This is awesome! I love this shit!"

"Hey." He said. "You just better be careful bein' over there. I'm surprised that ya even wanna go back over after what I told ya."

I put my head up and smirked and crossed my arms over my chest. "I'm not scared. I think it's cool."

He snorted. "Whatever. We'll see about that when you come runnin' over here cryin' at three in the mornin'."

"That won't happen." I smirked.

Daryl raised his eyebrows. He took one last puff from his cigarette, then threw it in the yard. "Alright." He said and blew the smoke out as he was walking back in.

I stayed out there for a minute smiling to myself. I can't believe it. I was just about to give in and say that there was nothing going on over there, then Daryl tells me this! I'm so surprised that something actually happened to him. Well, I'm surprised but not shocked. This is crazy though. I have a haunted house. I laughed before walking back inside.
