Chapter 27: Ringo: On a Roll? by kirbymanx/huskynator
F1 - Rec Room
"You enter into a well-lit, seemingly empty room. You close the door behind you. No windows, no treasure, all the doors here are closed but unlocked. You have no clue what's behind any of them, and on top of that you feel like you're being watched." Lagnus said playing the Dungeon Master (DM for short) this campaign.
"Huh." Ringo sighed. "Deja vu."
Ringo Ando
Studious Electric Suzuran Inhabitant
"By my calculations and the tone in your voice, it's my estimation that:" The sophomore student paused dramatically. "That at least one of those doors is a trap!" Ringo proudly proclaimed.
"You would know a fake door situation by now, wouldn't you? " Maguro teased.
Maguro Sasaki
Charming Hobbyist Suzuran Inhabitant
"Snrk." Ringo grinned. "Shut up, you jerk!" She poked her friend's side with her elbow on each syllable. Maguro grinned while keeping his ouchies to himself.
Lagnus laughed as well. "Heheh. I'm not gonna say if they're traps or not. But… eh… You still gotta roll the dice on the door whether they're trapped or not."
"Hmm…" Risukuma, a teacher friend of Ringo and Maguro, asked. He's a newbie at Tabletop RPGs. "May I ask why?"
"She's rolling for preparedness."
"I'm rolling just in case that is a trap."
"Just roll with it, Ris. "
"I see." The squirrel bear(?) murmured. Planning his next move.
"Magical Girl Ringo thinks hard about which door to enter." DM Lagnus narrated. Out-of-universe urging Ringo to get on with it.
"Magical Girl" Ringo chuckled. "He says when my immediate luck-based price could be doom." Ringo thought about her choices. Looking ahead on each side of the board, she chose the door which held the least harmful potential route. "I'll go left from when I entered." She said caustically.
Lagnus drew a card. He had a terrible poker face at what awaits Ringo. "Roll a twenty-sided dice and see what shall await you, warrior."
"It can't be that bad, Ringo." Maguro tried to encourage her.
Ringo sighed, she played with the dice in her palm. "Here goes…" She rolled. "Seventeen! That's gotta be good enough~" She said with confidence.
"The door was very weak,"
"Here we go…" Ringo mumbled.
"the hinges of the door fall off. You get a 17 your attack stat jump on an Alpha Onion Pixie." Lagnus placed the monster card with stats out of Ringo's league on the table.
"AN ALPHA ONION PIXIE!" Ringo shouted.
"Yikes! You drew a short straw there, Ringo." Maguro winced.
Risukuma observed the card. "A 17 hit point boost is not an insignificant amount of damage." The squirrel bear(?) said based on his limited knowledge of this game. "Perhaps you should consider."
"Hmmm… I don't know…" Maguro said with caution. "Reeeeeaaaaally risky."
"Yeeeeeaaah…" Ringo agreed through her teeth. "I would've preferred another fake door attack." But then… "Actually… Ha! Eureka!" The girl pepped back up. "Though, what a waste of potions that would be… I am lacking behind in Exp though… Eeeeeeeeeeeeeh decisions, decisions…"
"I'll give you 30 seconds, Ringo." Lagnus politely warned. "Run to the previous room and end your turn? Or attack it twice and end your turn?"
"Attack." Ringo decided. 'Good-bye, potions.' "Dazzle to lower its accuracy, and Scepter Bonk for maximum damage."
"Ringo dazzled her ogre-like opponent with… Dazzle. I'll never get used to that." The DM looked at the card and picked up two dice. He calculated how low he needed to throw for the Alpha Onion Pixie to get affected in his head. Ringo had about a 70% chance to hit with Dazzle.
The mental drum rolls in everyone's head were quite active, especially Ringo's. Lagnus rolled the dice.
"Are you kidding me?" Ringo sighed.
"Sorry." Lagnus grinned. "Good luck." He wished for her. "The Alpha Onion Pixie blinked, Dazzle failed to dazzle. The Onion Pixie retaliates with…" Lagnus rolled some dice. "Oof. Sorry… Maximum damage. You're in critical damage, Ringo."
"Crud…"
"Ringo rolls her dice to see if her souped-up attack lands."
"Next time, I'm the DM." Ringo more or less demanded with a frown. All her friends at the table agreed.
"As long as I get my turn twice in a row. " Maguro shrugged with a smile.
Everyone had their eyes on Ringo's dice…
"YES!"
"Wow! Also maximum damage!"
Whistles "Plus 17. How about that, Ringo? "
"Amazing."
"YEAH! YEAH! HECK YEAH!" Ringo celebrated again. "Now just a minimum of 5 hits left. Eeeeeeeehh. Your turn, Maguro."
"It's Maguro the Thief's turn. He heard Magical Girl Ringo scream from the room near him. Roll your die."
"I'm coming, Ringo! " Maguro threw his dice.
"Aw!"
"So much for that…"
"Oof."
"Oh my, what bad luck."
Maguro rolled a 1. He's not in range to help Ringo, he didn't have an ability that could reach her. "Welp. Maybe next turn??"
"If I'll survive that long…"
DM Lagnus, looking at the state of this campaign and the awful hand drawn, and considered just making rocks fall on the onion ogre.
"I think I have found an elegant solution to this problem." Risukuma lifted his fuzzy head up from the manual he's been reading. That raised a few eyebrows.
"Um… If you think so, teach." Lagnus cleared his throat. "Risukuma the Squirrel Bear(!) also heard Ringo scream, with Maguro the Thief having tripped it leaves Risukuma open to help their companion instead. What shall he do? Roll your die."
"I need at least a three." The Squirrel Bear(?) rolled a four. "Splendid." His character moved next to Ringo's. "I'll use my double turn item." Their computer science teacher proudly showed his card.
He got a collective "ooooooo" from the table and a beaming face from Ringo.
"And I shall use it on myself."
"WHAT!!"
"Ris…"
"Um…"
"Oh, am I missing something?"
Lagnus stepped up to calmly explain. "If you use it on yourself it's basically another dice roll."
"Lagnus knows from experience. " Maguro felt the need to lighten the mood. Making most chuckle and Lagnus glare. "Use it on Ringo and she can do another action on her turn."
"Do it do it do it." Ringo pleaded.
"Very well. Defeat that Onion Pixie, Ringo. With the Squirrel Bear(!)'s love."
"The Squirrel Bear(!) made it so Magical Girl Ringo can make two moves. Will it help her defeat the Alpha Onion Pixie?"
"Please stop making me feel nervous. Uh, Lemonade Potion then Scepter Bonk again." The potion worked without fail. A lemonade potion also increases the attack stat for the next turn. Everyone was on the edge of their seats, Ringo could finish the ogre off.
The.
Dice.
Roll.
"HAHA! Maximum damage again~"
The crowd goes wild!
"HIGH FIVE!" Ringo reached across the table to slap Risukuma's paw(?). "Thanks for trying, Maguro." She brofisted him.
"Good job, Ris~ You saved Ringo~ "
"It was nothing but a common courtesy from the bottom of my heart, I would've helped anyone like that."
"The Alpha Onion Pixie has been slain! You get [a big amount] of Exp. The Onion Pixie drops a magical book."
"Awesome~ And it would be really nice if I came by a merchant soon to buy a new potion from." Ringo playfully winked and nudged at Lagnus.
Lagnus looked unamused. "I'm not gonna rig the game in your favor…"
