rooftop stories (this might be my everything)

So, when the sky was all pink and blue he had walked out the door with a vague half-formed idea about exploring. He had found an unmarked door that led up some steps and opened up onto cracked concrete, rumbling vent fans and a rooftop that was about to change his life. That, he thinks, taking another sip of his still-scalding latte, is probably where it all began.

32. The Ending

The Ending

It ends on the first day of November in a small little coffee shop with a hazelnut americano because she actually loves the taste of coffee.

It ends with a laptop open to a new, fancier, editing software she actually pays for and headphones she bought a month ago after a bonus on her paycheck.

It ends there, in that moment, when she takes the first sip and clicks onto the video loaded in and ready to be edited.

But really, she supposes, it doesn't really end at all. Not when they walked in a few minutes ago, not when he burned his tongue on a caramel latte that was more milk than coffee and started to write on that notepad he stole from work a week ago. Not when she stops her editing to shake her head at him or when he loops his foot around hers or when she simply starts to drift off and reminisce.

It could have ended a year and a half ago on a rooftop in New York.

It could have ended in the middle of July, on an unusually hot day as the sun had started to set and she had walked onto cracked concrete to a figure in the dark.

It could have ended after a date in August or a fight in January, or a trip in July or even over Halloween decorations three weeks ago.

It could have ended before it even began but... it didn't.

So really, she thinks, taking another sip of her rich coffee, this is probably where it all begins.

A/N: Nothing truly ends if you think about it, things just change, shift into other things, and that's why endings are so hard to write.

So that's why I wanted to end this crazy long book by leaving it at the beginning of the rest of their lives.

This was just one year in Percy and Annabeth's lives, imagine what else could happen in their lifetime. Imagine what else can happen in yours. One year can change a lot, but it's not the end, just a change to whatever is next. What's next for you?

There is still an update left in this fic so I'll reserve my thoughts for that one, but I just want to thank all of you for reading this insanely long adventure and for reviewing and sharing your thoughts.
