The great hall of castle black slowly filled with few major nothern lords,captians and vice captains of the wolf guards and leaders of the Night's Watch
Officially they were here because the king suddenly decided to personally check up on the wall and situation of the Night's Watch by a royal visit,Father,grandmother Rhaella and Rhaenys came with Uncle Ned and uncle Ben while the rest stayed behind at Winterfell
But really we are here to talk about the Freefolk who will reach Hardhome in a moon then it's just a few days on the ships to Eastwatch,the three freefolk that I brought south are also here so they can witness the talks
As everyone was gathered I stepped forward,"As you all call see the Night's Watch is in bad shape,the watch is barely 700 strong due to the recent attempt at mutiny by the men who wanted to desert their duties and forsake their vows,even though lord stark and I have been sending supplies to the watch it is barely functioning,even though 2000 wolf guards are stationed at the wall at any given time they can barely man 4 castles,seeing all of this I went beyond the wall to parley with the wildlings or freefolk as they call themselves,I made peace with them and allowed then to cross the wall"
As soon as they heard it the lords all started shouting and yelling,"SHUT UPP AND SIT DOWN" I roared so loudly that it rattled everything in the entire hall and slowly the hall went silent
"Now you will stay silent until I am finished,lest you forget that you are addressing your prince and that too in front of your king,you all better remember your manners or I will make you remember them" the hall stayed silent
"Now that we clear on that,I know how you all feel about the wildlings,they have been raiding our lands for hundreds of years but what you fools don't realise is if we don't do something now then things will only remain the same,have you all forgot that the we are the same,blood of the first men flows through their veins just like ours,the only difference is that they are born north of the wall,so why are we fighting amongst ourselves,I am offering you stubborn fools a chance to make peace,then we never have to worry about wildings raiding our lands,blood of our people will never be spilled due to this pointless fight" hearing this some of the lords nodded in approval but still a lot of them were doubtful
"I know there is a lot of bad blood between both sides so we can't just trust each other,so I am offering a middle ground to both sides so we can slowly settle are differences and make peace over time,there are hundred thousand wildlings coming south they will not stay in your lands but will be given the lands of the gift to live,I know these lands belong to watch but the watch can barely man the castles so it won't be a problem,the freefolk will only stay in these lands and follow our laws while maintaining their own in their lands,aside form this the freefolk will man all the castles on the wall east of castle black,about half of the freefolk are their fighting host,that means they are 50,000 strong,same as the entire north so I would think before starting something you can't finish"
Lord Karstark stood up,"I know what desperations does to people,winter has always been hard in my lands,before the white wolf and lord stark stared sending us food it was very hard to survive winters,I am sure the lands beyond the wall are even more harsh so I am willing to make peace with the freefolk because I can understand their desperation,but your grace you say the freefolk are 50,000 strong,then how we are supposed to believe that they will follow our laws and won't started raiding our lands as soon as they cross the wall,how are we supposed to protect our people when such a big host is waiting just outside our lands" he asked,all the other lords also agreed with him
"Aye we can't just trust them based on their words alone so I have taken children from every tribes and clan as hostages,these hostage will be sent to skagos with my men,this will keep the freefolk in line,that with the watch and wolf guards manning the wall together with the freefolk will keep an eye on them,they will notify us if anything happens,but my lords you are only seeing the dangers but you fail to see the opportunities this alliance can provide us"
Great Jon Umber snorted,"and what opportunities do these wildlings give us your grace?"
"The north has forgotten that we are the blood of the first men,our ancestors were they first to roam these lands,our gods our the gods of nature,the forest itself were the eyes and ears of our people and the animals were our aide and weapons,we were the race of wargs, skinchangers and greenseers,etc, even when the Andals invaded our lands with their shiny armours and steel weapons we killed every andal to the last man who dared stepped foot in our lands,our heritage and culture goes back to thousands of years but now looks at us,the only thing that shows are blood are just a few direwolves and some wolves and bears,while we forgot the freefolk remembered our heritage,even now they passed the first men culture and magic to their children generation after generation,we keep saying ours is the old way but the truth is we forgot our ways,but now we have a chance to make it right,if we can make peace then both the freefolk and northeners can learn form each other,I know it is not going to be easy but while wars have torn us apart we can mend us together with understanding, friendship and marriage"
The stubborn lords finally seem to get the damn point,sometimes I can't help but feel like I am dealing with giant hairy babies instead of the lords
But this is a good start,I am sure slowly but surely the freefolk and the Northerners can actually work together
