Chapter 44 : Hospital

Callie's POV

Even though I was well aware that Erica was one of the best surgeons in the country, I felt incredibly bad about the fact that my ex-girlfriend was going to have my wife's father's life in her hands.

After this discussion with the surgeon, I went to get my children and we all went to the room so they could enjoy their grandfather before his surgery. I watched my children play with Daniel and smiled at how happy I was to be part of this family. I didn't want anything to change, this surgery needed to go well.

A few moments later, we said goodbye to Daniel as he went down to the OR. To make the wait less unpleasant, we moved to the cafeteria to spend part of the next ten hours there.

Even though Arizona kept her beautiful smile, I could see that she was not doing well. I could see in her face that she was so afraid she would never be able to see her father again. I knew her by heart, and it was heartbreaking to see her like this. I placed a tender kiss on her cheek so she would feel that I was with her.

At one point, I suggested that we take a walk to clear our heads and talk privately, away from the ears of our children.

"Baby," I started, "I need to tell you something."

"Go ahead. Anyway, whatever you say will make me forget for a moment that my father is in surgery."

"About the surgery, when I talked to the surgeon, he told me that he had brought in a high-level surgeon to help him."

"Who has he brought?"

"Erica Hahn."

"Your ex?"

"Exactly, but don't worry, she's one of the best surgeons around and I know she'll be able to save your father."

"Do you think she knows we're married?" She asked as I felt the anxiety rising in her mind.

"I haven't talked to her since she left the hospital so I don't know how she would know."

"She has no reason to sabotage my father's surgery, has she?"

"No, she has no reason to do anything wrong."

"You know I love you, Calliope?" She said, looking at me as if I were one of the seven wonders of the world. "I couldn't live all this without you by my side, without you and without our children."

"This is my job, Arizona. The day I decided to spend the rest of my life, I agreed to devote every second of my life to making sure that you three have the best life ever. You, our perfect little girl who impresses us every day and our boy with his angelic smile."

We hugged and for the first time I could see in his eyes that the warmth of my embrace made her feel that everything was going to be okay.

Four hours later, as we all waited in the waiting room while Sofia played with her brother, we saw the surgeon walking towards us. We rushed towards him.

"Mrs. Robbins," he announced, "your husband's surgery went very well. We were able to remove all of his rumors."

"Where is my husband?" Barbara asked, moved by a mixture of fear and excitement.

"He's in the recovery room right now," the doctor replied, "and he's doing pretty well. You should be able to come see him soon."

Barbara approached the doctor and hugged him. You could see in her eyes that she was extremely relieved to know that she was going to be reunited with the love of her life, her partner of almost 30 years.

After saying thank you to the doctor, Barbara turned to her daughter and the two women began to cry with joy, one in the other's arms.

"Mamma," Sofia said, running towards us with her brother, "is Grandpa Daniel cured?"

"Yes, sweetie," I said with a smile, "your grandpa is fine. Everything is going to be fine!"

"Thank God !" My daughter said as she joined her mother and grandmother in their hug.

I took my son in my arms and added to their moment of happiness. This moment made me feel a twinge of happiness. We were united in that moment of joy, we were one person in that moment.
