I figured writing a bit more on Monica could have potential.
So here's a Monica chapter.
Enjoy.
The Monastery, especially Seteh, could now take a breather; Flayn was safe. And they even managed to find a long since missing student, Monica.
She specifically asked to join the Black Eagles class, and her and Edelgard immediately got along. Maybe a little too well, but no one hardly paid it mind. Figuring Monica just wanted to catch up on everything she missed.
Monica and Edelgard were talking in their usual place, the training grounds. When Byleth approached the duo, both of them turning to face the emotionless man.
"Hello Professor." Edelgard greeted him. "Usually I'd be available to talk with you but I'm afraid I am a little busy at the moment."
Byleth nodded. "That's fine, I wanted to talk to Monica anyway."
Edelgard raised an eyebrow, seeing Monica grin devilishly out of the corner of her eye.
"Oh?" Chimed Monica. "What would you want with lil ol me, Professor?"
Byleth turned to face her. "You answered a few questions wrong on the last exam, and I wanted to go over them with you to make sure you don't fall behind."
Monica tried her best to hold in her laughter, nodding quickly. "Sure!"
"W-Wait!" Edelgard said, Byleth turning to face her. "Is something wrong, Edelgard?"
"Yeah Edel, we were done talking weren't we?" Monica asked, a mocking grin on her face.
The kind Edelgard wanted to punch.
The last person Edelgard wanted Monica to hang around was the Professor, she didn't want anything bad to happen to him.
"I-Is this urgent? I'm afraid I still have something I need to talk to Monica about."
Byleth nodded. "It is. It won't take long though, I can assure you."
If Edelgard pressed on she would appear suspicious so she simply nodded and remained silent as Byleth walked off with Monica following, the latter turning around and sticking her tongue at the heiress; Edelgard gritting her teeth in response.
Monica walked along the path in front of the classrooms with a big smile on her face. She was done with her plans for today, and she wondered what she should do now. Usually she'd just go in her room or hang around with Edelgard, but today she felt like doing something different.
Part of her wanted to go back to the classroom where the Professor was, there was just something so amusing about him. Maybe it was just how oblivious he was, Edelgard always held that guy in such high regards, and from what she heard about him she expected a bit better.
But to be so clueless, even with things regarding common sense, it was extremely pathetic. That guy was the one who wielded the Sword of the Creator? The Church really was doomed.
"Monica."
The red-head stopped, turning around to face the voice who called her, seeing Edelgard and giving her a big smile. "Hiya Edel, Did you need something?"
Edelgard narrowed her eyes and glared at Monica. "What exactly did you and the Professor do?"
Monica's grin only grew wider. "My, Edel, you sound so jealous." She put her finger to her chin and glanced upward, as if to think. "Hmm...Well we sat real close to each other, and he helped me out with my work a lot. He's really smart, and super nice." She shot her eyes back to Edelgard. "I can see why you like him."
Edelgard took a few steps closer to Monica. "Just stay away from the Professor. He is not your main objective."
Monica bit back a laugh, this was just too fun. "Ya know Edel, it doesn't seem fair to hound the Professor all to yourself. Some of the other girls may be interested in him."
"I don't care about what the other girls think about him." Edelgard said, balling her hands into fist. "I'm only concerned with what you might do."
"I had no idea I was worthy of such attention, your highness." Monica teased.
Edelgard's glare intensified, her knuckles turning white. "Just stay. Away. From. Him." She pushed past Monica, who turned around watching her leave.
Monica scoffed, dropping the act. "Honestly, what do you even see in a worthless worm like him anyway?"
That was it, something snapped in Edelgard and she whipped around, fist clenched and throwing a punch at Monica's smug face, only to be stopped when a hand reached out and grabbed her forearm. Her eyes widened and she looked to her right, seeing the Professor glaring down at her.
"P-Professor!"
Byleth glared at Edelgard for a few seconds longer before letting go of her arm, Edelgard retreating it back and cowering slightly.
"M-My teacher, I can explain..."
"Don't. I understand times are stressful now, especially since the Remire village attack, but there is no excuse for taking out that stress on a fellow classmate." Byleth turned to Monica. "Are you okay?"
Monica ran up and clung to the Professors arm, a look of distress on her face. "I believe so Professor...But Edelgard is really scary sometimes, we were just talking and suddenly she snapped!" She buried her face in his coat sleeve, sneaking a mischievous glance at Edelgard.
Byleth turned back to Edelgard. "Try to calm down Edelgard, take the next clean-up battle off."
"B-But!"
"Don't argue." The Professor said, turning around and walking off, Monica once again following him; turning around and sticking her tongue out.
Edelgard was going to personally kill her, if not Hubert was.
Monica's body didn't need food, she could easily spend months going without any type of nourishment. Such was one of the many benefits of being an Agarthan.
That being said however, she did sometimes began to crave food, and as much as she hated to admit it the Monastery had a very good selection when it came the time to satisfy her desires. Solon always did say she was more 'human' than the other Agarthans.
Deciding to quell her sudden urge to eat, she stopped by the Dining Hall, where apparently it was lunch time. Seeing numerous student's all sitting down and eating. She scanned the area, not looking for anyone in particular, until spotting the Professor grabbing a plate of food and leaving the Dining Hall, Monica grinned. Walking up to the counter and grabbing her own plate of food before taking off after him.
"Professor!"
Byleth stopped and turned around, staring down at the bubbly red-head. "Did you need something, Monica?"
Monica put on her best 'shy girl' act, glancing away and pretending to be nervous. "I-I was wondering if I could have lunch with you." She said, before returning her timid gaze back to the Professor.
Byleth titled his head. "Why? Is something wrong?"
Monica nodded her head. "I don't think the other students like me...And Edelgard has been really mean to me lately..." She stuck out het bottom lip. "I'm really lonely, Professor..."
Byleth thought for a moment, before nodding. "I suppose you're right, sorry I didn't notice sooner." He smiled slightly, and for some reason that made Monica feel strange. "Sure, you can join me for lunch. I was just heading to the classroom to do some paperwork."
Monica grinned. "Thanks Professor!" She followed the Professor to the classroom, glancing behind her to see Edelgard bursting out of the Dining Hall, looking around frantically. Monica giggled to herself before rounding the corner, moving out of sight with the Professor.
As they sat silently in the classroom, the only noise being Byleth munching on his lunch, Monica couldn't help but stare at the man as she sat across from him. Eventually Byleth looked up from his paperwork, staring at Monica.
"Is something wrong?"
"Nope."
"I see..."
Byleth stared back at Monica for a little longer before looking back down at his paperwork, grabbing a loaf of bread from his plate and taking a bite out of it before placing it back, chewing it slowly. Monica noticed a stray crumb on the corner of the Professor's mouth and she couldn't help but smile.
"Hey Professor, could you look at me real quick?"
Byleth once again looked up at Monica, the Agarthan quickly plucked the stray crumb of bread from the Professor's face and tossed it in her own mouth, grinning afterwards. "That's all."
Byleth didn't respond, looking back down to his paperwork. Monica frowned, a better reaction would've been more desirable...
She tugged at her uniform collar. "Say, aren't you hot in that outfit?"
Byleth shook his head, not looking up from his papers. Monica unbuttoned her coat, stripping it off and setting it on the ground before leaning forward against the surface of the desk, the white undershirt hugged her body tightly, showing off her curves. Monica rested her chin on her hands as she stared at the Professor.
Byleth glanced up slightly at Monica. "You aren't wearing a bra."
"H-Huh!?" Monica jumped back, covering her chest and blushing heavily.
Wait, why was she even embarrassed in the first place? She'd worn far more revealing articles of clothing, surely not wearing a bra was next to nothing for her. Byleth sighed, setting his quill down and setting his gaze on her.
"Monica, are you trying to tell me something?"
The red-head raised an eyebrow. "Umm...Yeah, I guess I am..." Monica decided to play along, curiosity being the main reason.
Byleth nodded. "I figured, are you having trouble adjusting? I can't help but feel as if you're forcing yourself sometimes."
Moncia shook her head. "Oh no, I'm fine!"
"Are you sure? I don't want you over-stressing yourself because you feel as if you need to catch up." Byleth said. "I'm here if you ever need someone to talk to, Monica."
Someone to talk to...No one ever offered to hear her troubles before, she found this to be extremely amusing, yet at the same time she had this weird feeling in her chest. "Well Professor..." She began. "...Sometimes I feel like people expect too much of me."
Byleth raised an eyebrow. "Oh? Like who?"
Solon.
"No one in particular..."
Byleth brought his hand to his chin, thinking. "I see..." He closed his eyes, thinking for a bit before opening them. "Well...You should at the very least meet your own expectations, worry about what others think about you later."
Monica nodded, for some reason she found comfort in that.
"You're a good girl, Monica. I understand what happened to you was horrible..."
'You don't even know the half of it...' Is what she wanted to say.
"But I'm here if you need any help." He smiled, Monica's chest tightening at the sight.
"R-Really...You'll help me?"
Byleth nodded.
"Even if I'm in danger? Even if I did something horrible?"
'Like killing your students...' She thought to herself, trying her best not to say it outloud.
Byleth raised an eyebrow at the specifics, but nodded regardless.
"I will. If you are in danger, I will come save you."
Monica smiled, not a smile of malice nor one of the usual mischievous filled grins she often wore, it was a smile of content; of something called happiness she so rarely experienced.
She stood up, grabbing her coat and the plate of food she barely touched.
"Thanks Professor, you've been a big help to me today."
Byleth nodded. "I'm glad I was able to ease your worries."
Monica gave one last smile before opening the door and walking out of the classroom, shutting it's doors behind her. Taking a deep breath before sighing heavily.
It was almost time to enact their plan, wasn't it?
So why was she suddenly so nervous...
Tfw no Monica gf to back stab you and call you a worm.
Until next time!
