They fell apart from each other and waited for their breaths to even put before rolling to face each other, "Hi." Jay said quietly.
"Hi to you too." Erin whispered back.
"That was..."
"Amazing." She said finishing his sentence.
Even thought Jay had no idea they had the weekend to themselves he definitely made most of the moment even though he was stressing about the sergeants exam and was still yet to give Hank an answer, which Hank said he needed it Monday morning after their weekend away.
They decided to fly to New York and spend the night in a fancy hotel with room service, something they rarely got to do.
"We really have to do this more often." Jay said leaning in to kiss her before rolling to the other side to reach for the room service menu.
She quickly snatched it off him and started looking, "Hey I was looking at that." Jay held up his hands.
"Yeah but I'm pregnant and hungry." She said giving him puppy eyes.
He chuckled, "You can't use that excuse every time we go somewhere to eat."
"You eat anything and everything Jay and anyway you can look after I've looked, be a gentleman."
He started tickling her in order to try get the menu off her, she started giggling, "Hey stop! Please stop, I will pee myself! I'm serious Jay please."
He stopped after a few more seconds of torture, "Sorry. Is it seriously that easy for you to pee yourself."
"Yes Jay it is. I have to squeeze every fibre of my body when I sneeze just so I don't pee so when you are tickling me it's hard to control anything," Jay started laughing, she quickly slapped his chest, "Hey! It's not funny, you try having little feet kick your bladder or use it as a pillow and even when they come out your bladder is never the same."
"Okay my bad I will try to be a bit more understanding." He smiled.
"We really do need to do this more often." She said smuggling into Jays side as they both took in the big peaceful room they were in.
"Yeah I know. And I know we flew here to go somewhere different and do some things, but I wouldn't mind staying here the whole time snuggled up to you." Jay kissed her forehead.
"I like the way you think Halstead."
"And we can order as much room service if you want, to satisfy all your cravings and we can even watch your stupid rom coms you like."
"Husband of the year." She chuckled.
"Better be."
She propped herself up onto her elbows and smiled at him, "Always baby."
Three weeks later and Erin was really starting to enjoy her pregnancy but Jay was starting to figure out how crazy pregnancy hormones could be. No matter how much it frustrated him, he loved every minute of it.
They had told Lily last week that they were having another baby, the nearly three year old had started getting curious when mummy's belly wasn't so flat anymore. The little girl was more then thrilled and it was like she'd completely forgotten what had happened all those months ago which helped Erin and Jay relax a little more.
Jay had given his answer to Hank after they'd gotten back from their very relaxing weekend away. He was prepared and ready to take the next step in his career, he had his worries but he knew he'd get through this, with both Erin and Hanks help.
He had been studying hard for the exam. No one had doubts that he wouldn't pass with flying colours but he still wanted to put all he had into it, yet this was hard when you had a nearly two year old seeking your attention every waken moment she had. So he had to make do with every spare moment he had.
Yet the last couple days had been full on and exhausting for everyone in intelligence, a kidnapping that took longer then anyone wanted. When the case was finally closed, with the little boy home in his parents arms everyone could now breathe a little easier and couldn't be more thankful when Erin told them she'd help them out with their paperwork so they could get a few extra hours sleep in the morning, there was no complaints just happy faces. Even Jay wasn't going to argue, between a hormonal wife, attention seeking toddler, study and a full time job, a couple extra hours sleep was extremely appreciated.
Erin rested her hand on her twenty week growing belly as she caught up on the teams paperwork. She came in a few hours earlier and had done all she could do for the team to help them all out. Coming in early worked out for her anyway because she had a twenty week ultrasound to go to.
One by one they all started walking up the steps to the bullpen, greeting her as they came in, "Linds you are my favourite person right now. I just had a solid four hours sleep and man I feel fresh."
Erin smiled at Adam's comment then laughed when Kim gave him an annoyed look, "Your obviously my favourite person ever but surely you agree? We got to go home without a toddler to sleep."
Kim nodded, "Yeah true, Erin your the best."
Erin chuckled, "I don't mind, I have to leave early anyway so coming in early was no drama. I just hope Jay got as much sleep as you because we didn't end up having a sitter."
"Speak of the devil." Adam said as he pointed to Jay.
"Hey baby." Erin turned to him as she stood up from her desk.
"Morning. I come bearing gifts." He held up a bag showing his wife.
"Manny's!" Erin smiled widely as she grabbed the bag.
Jay laughed, "Do I at-least get some loving for going to get it?"
"You should know by now Jay that when women are pregnant food pretty much tops the father." Adam joked from his desk.
Erin rolled her eyes, "I'm sorry. Thankyou, I love you," she said holding her stomach as she fault a little kick, grabbing Jays hand suddenly as he was yet to feel it she placed it on her stomach, "We love you."
His eyes widened, "When did this start?"
"This morning, I was so excited to tell you when you came in."
"This is so amazing." He said continuing to rest his hand on her belly.
"Yeah maybe for you, not when he or she is kicking my ribs or using my bladder as a punching bag." Erin said going back to sit at her desk to eat the food Jay had bought her.
"I'm so glad I get to be here this time around. This is so amazing feeling It for the first time," He smiled but noticed Erin's smile quickly turned into a frown, "Did I say something?"
"No it's okay." She shrugged it off.
"Don't do that, I know somethings wrong."
Before Erin could say anything Hank came out and told them they had a case so they all had to rush off. Jay could feel the awkwardness in the car as they drove to the crime scene, "Erin can you tell me what I said?"
"Every time something exciting happens with the pregnancy you always say how happy you are that your around this time to be involved with it all." She explained.
"Er..."
"It's just, I feel bad enough that your weren't around for my first pregnancy but I can't exactly go back in time and change it."
Jay looked at her as he came to a red light, "Babe I know. I'm sorry, I didn't know it hurt you that much when I said it. I won't say it anymore."
She nodded, "I am glad you are here Jay but I don't need to be reminded every time that I took all this away from you the first time, I feel bad enough."
Jay grabbed her hand and squeezed it, "I should have realised, I didn't mean to hurt your feelings, that wasn't my intention."
"I know," she wipes away some fallen tears, "Sorry, I feel like I'm always crying lately."
"Nothing I can't handle. I love you."
She smiled, "I love you too."
"And please when somethings bothering you just tell me straight up?" She nodded, "Promise?"
"Promise."
"Now we better go, before Voight starts wondering where we are, don't want him getting ideas." Jay said as he pulled up at the crime scene.
Erin rolled her eyes, "Head out of the gutter Halstead."
"Not my fault when you want to pull over half the time for a quickie." He laughed.
"Like your complaining." She shot back at him.
"Well no I'm not..."
"Fine just forget it, I will stop doing that, seeings though it seems to be a problem for you." She shrugged as she started walking off.
"No...no complaints on my end..Hey! I didn't say that." He stuttered as he tried catching up with her, making sure she understood that he was definitely not complaining about those particular hormones she was experiencing.
They waited patiently for the doctor to come in and do the ultrasound and check up on everything. Erin looked to Jay who kept checking his watch, "You didn't have to come Jay."
He snapped his head up, "Hmm?"
She pointed to his watch, "You keep looking at your watch like you have somewhere to be."
"Sorry, sorry. It's nothing." He waved it off.
"Well it's obviously something, can you tell me?" She poked.
"Erin, it's nothing, let it go."
Before Erin could start getting more frustrated Dr Proudman walked in, "Afternoon guys, how are we today."
They both said good and went over a few things before getting started on the ultrasound, "Now I know you wanted to wait until you find out the gender, are you guys still wanting to wait?"
Jay looked at Erin and smiled, "It's up to you babe."
She nodded, "Yeah I think we are ready. Yeah let's find out."
"Okay then, well congratulations your having a boy."
Jay smiled like a Cheshire Cat as he stood up, leaning over to kiss Erin, "You happy?"
"Over the moon."
Erin kicked off her shoes before following Jay into their home, she was so confused and a little annoyed about him shutting her out at the doctors, she could tell something was up but she couldn't quite put her finger on it.
"Jay you rushed out of the doctors, you rushed home, can you please tell me what's going home?" Erin asked again, she couldn't let it go.
"I don't have anywhere better to be if that's what your getting at." He turned to her.
"Well no it's not."
He held out his hand for hers, "Follow me?"
She nodded as she followed him upstairs, "Jay what's going on?"
"I knew we had the appointment so I thought it would all work out without a hitch but then Will got stuck at work so I was worrying about the time..."
"Jay your not making sense what are you talking about? Time for what?"
"Will was dropping something off for me."
"Okay..." she said confused as they approached the baby's nursery, a place they were yet to decorate because of what happened last time.
"I know we haven't done anything with the nursery and I'm not saying we have to yet but I have been working on something for the baby, I had been when you were pregnant with Jake but I never got around to finish it...given what happened," he choked out, "But uh, I wanted to finish it for this little one and also so Lily can still enjoy it while shes little."
"Jay what..." she was cut off when Jay opened the door to the nursery revealing a handcrafted rocking horse on the floor in the middle of the room, "Jay...You built this?"
"Yeah, just another thing that's been on my plate."
She sunk down onto her knees running her hands along the beautiful rocking horse that Jay had built, "I never give you enough credit about you being such a great father."
He sat behind her pulling her close to his chest as he rested both his hands on her belly, "So you like it? I done good?"
"You always do good Jay, I love it. It's amazing, your amazing."
"I didn't think the surprise would work out when you started questioning it and getting frustrated." He chuckled.
"Well you weren't exactly being subtle."
"Well maybe not, but it worked out in the end." He shrugged.
"That it did."
