I don't own Hetalia okay? I don't have much else for this opening. Anyway, enough of this A/N, on with the fic!

(from the diary of Alfred F Jones)
Well this was the best surprise that I or Nikolai could have ever asked for on his birthday. He turned 9 today and back in April we had gotten a letter from Mattie and Katy to come up to the Santa Monica Pier. It is a bit of a drive with 4 kids in the back of the car, I mean it is nearly a 6 hour drive. Cars aren't as fast as they could be. I mean I heard of what some of the bootleggers cars can do to theirs but Nattie won't let me make this thing faster or get a newer faster car. But good thing that Nattie was in the back and let the birthday boy have the front seat and we got some hotel rooms for a few days to make the most of the trip. Driving that long with a young child is not easy. Alexei is 3, heck Anya and Ivan are going to be 7 and it was still a nightmare. We checked into the hotel and headed to the pier at the time Mattie had said, which was 2 pm. Meaning we had to leave at like 6 am to get up here. Uggggggghhhhh. But it was worth it to see Nikolai's smile.
So apparently a lot happened or was in the works since last Christmas that they didn't tell us about. So in about a week or two Mattie starts his new job as a Yosemite Park ranger. I asked why they didn't tell me and he just said he wanted it to be a surprise. And Nikolai was really surprised to see his old piano teacher. Appernlty Roddy got in with some studio exectives who are working on making movies with sound. He writes some music for some movies that have to be played in the theatre so that's good. It'll be great when anyone who sees a movie hears Roderich Edelstein playing or at least something he wrote. Anya was so happy to see Louise again, that shy little 4 year old and I finally got to see Eliza and Roddy's kid. A girl named Maria. So while we are all a bit of a distance from each other, Mattie's in Northern California and Eliza and Roddy are here in the Los Angeles area, it's not like they are so far away that seeing them is a difficult thing to do. Just not every day like when we lived in New York. But Mattie seems happy, Katy seems happy, even Eliza and Roddy seem happy. Nikolai told me that this was the best birthday he had ever had. We just spent the day at the pier like a family. Riding the rides, playing on the beach and just having a good day. He and Ivan are sleeping now, had to get two rooms and while I wanted the kids in one just me and Nattie in one of our own, nice romantic beach night, well she didn't think that with Nikolai being 9 and the oldest that was a good idea. So she will look after Anya and Alexi and I guess before they tired themselves out, you could say it was a boy's night. I owe Nikolai and Ivan a fishing trip though. I taught them to play some cards and well, I lost. On purpose! And they swore to secrecy not to tell Nattie just how they got that trip. Just quality father son bonding is all she will need to know.
So how was that? Good? Bad? Short? Long? Let me know in a review. You can clearly see this one is longer than The Longing of the Heart for some obvious reasons. One is over a few years, this a whole decade practically. I am coming to a good wrap up and should be here soon. Anyway, remember to read (well you just did) and to review. Ciao for now,
